The race to create a compelling Minecraft clone for a Nintendo console is on and now Big John Games has revealed that it will be jumping on the blocky bandwagon with Cube Creator 3D for the 3DS eShop.
The game is due to hit the eShop early next year, however Big John Games do hope to have a demo ready for December so you can get a feel for what the finished product will be like. The demo will offer a Creative Mode which allows players to explore the stereoscopic 3D world and also makes use of the 3DS' touchscreen so players can access the game's inventory easily during play.
The full game will feature a Survival Mode which offers a bunch of crafted worlds, along with some random ones to mess about in. There will also be enemies to keep you on your blocky toes.
With Battleminer also coming to the 3DS soon, along with UCraft and Stone Shire also planned for the Wii U, Nintendo fans will soon be spoilt for choice when it comes to Minecraft clones. How do you think this one measures up judging from the screenshots in our gallery below?

Those developpers proudly enter a market where Minecraft refused to enter. Kudos.
Looks better than Battleminer. I am not a fan of Mincraft, but portable version sounds tempting, and I'll give it a shot. Maybe if it will do well, than Microsoft will start working on Mincraft for 3DS.
And if it's in 'real' 3D... then I might just become a minecrafter.
I'm going to buy this, because Minecraft will never come to Nintendo platforms now.
DScraft looks better than this and that was for the DS.
I like to see when minecraft clone come to systems they won't support but I won't be getting it. I have it on my vita so that is my portable fix sorted.
It's kind of funny seeing a bunch of independent sources simultaneously see a gap in a market and pounce trying to cover it. It's like showing up for a Halloween party in 1977 thinking everyone is going to go nuts over your cool Han Solo costume.
Don't play it, I'de be VERY glad to try this!!
So 2 for Wii U and 2 for 3DS. This sounds like it's enough.
It's open season for minecraft clones. Which one will be a better clone than the other? Find out at 11!
Big John Games?! I've been a small fan of the company ever since they made Coaster Creator 3D and when I was treated really well when they apologized for not answering an email I had sent them earlier, and I wasn't asking for it so I was pleasantly surprised. They just make some good games, nothing incredible, but just some nice, good games. I don't know how I feel about them making a Minecraft clone, as I just don't like clones of games in general, but I mean, the screenshots don't look that bad, I dunno. I probably won't pick this up, as I have Mibecraft Pocket Edition on my iPod, (and the PC version, of course) but I will probably try the demo.
Also, still waiting for that Coaster Creator 3D update.
I would prefer something more like Landmark but with Nintendo themes and amiibo support like Disney infinity and stuff. Imagine creating your own mushroom kingdom, or your own Space station or Zebes or Corneria. The possibilities are endless
Not interested in any Minecraft clones when I can play the real deal on PC or another platform. I would, however, love for Minecraft to hit WiiU or 3DS though but who knows since MS owns them now.
@mastermp2 Yeah, especially with stuff like Amiibos being a thing now.
As for this game, I've never tried Minecraft, I can see why people enjoy it, it's just that my PC can't play games, I remember trying out the free Street Fighter x Mega Man game, I couldn't get pass the first stage screen, the input lag was too much.
So I'll keep my eye on this one, and try the demo when it comes out, who knows, maybe it'll be a decent clone.
Has potential, obviously going to be limited by scope because of 3ds hardware, but it should be a nice diversion, unless minecraft comes to the 3ds.
Great now the Nintendo E-shop is becoming the app and Google play store...
Great another clone that's just trying to get money, what a great way to start the day.
@SphericalCrusher Good point, now that MS owns Mojang, Minecraft will probably never come to Nintendo consoles. Well, I hope these clones can deliver!
I wish Wii U had just ONE QUALITY MINECRAFT clone rather than 5 crap low budget ones
My problem with all of these games is that they seem branded as Minecraft clones from the get go and all they share with Minecraft is the voxel-based cube-rendered environments. That's not all Minecraft is. So, what is it that these games are going to have you do? At least this one mentions survival and enemies. Also, it seems like there will be very limited environments from the description. Makes sense on the 3DS.
Anyway, there are tons of resources out there for understanding how to do this sort of thing and lots of free code laying around so I'm not surprised about these potential projects. I will be surprised if many of them amount to anything close to Minecraft or offer something new and worthwhile.
I've been toying around with this sort of thing and it's fascinating and fun to program, so I don't blame developers for getting excited. At least this one is for 3DS so I'd expect it to be somewhat limited anyway.
It really is a shame that Mojang didn't embrace Wii U right away. Now that Microsoft is the owner they seem to want feature parity among all the current versions and a unified way to make the game extensible (official modding tools basically). If Wii U had already been in the mix, they'd feel obligated to continue with it, but alas...
Three minecraft clones coming to the 3DS, it is getting old but this one and that first one look good, I just hope for online multiplayer.
I enjoyed Minecraft on PC and could be tempted into buying a portable clone.
These clones will sell. Mojang left fans in the cold and money on the table.
I just hope that the avatars don't look as weird as the Ucraft ones. Those avatars are literally one of the reasons I might not Ucraft, and I'm not one who usually judges a game based on it's characters.
YES!
Eh.
I'm interested but it depends on how smoothly it runs and whether each time you want to build or destroy something it takes ages to do so.
Hmm, it looks a lot better than uCraft, Stone Shire, and Battleminer. Most promising one yet.
Still scratching my head over "another one?" though.
Why? WHY???
If Big John can pull off an online co-op I'm buying this otherwise no go for me. But I'm definitely buying for co-op should it be there. I bet it will be very high Quality from Big John. Come guys get that Co-op in there!
Without mods this will not last, with a way to mod the hell out of it with the right fan support this could quite possibly become large.
This one seems interesting. lurking
I don't know about you guys but this looks the most promising out of them all so far.
Idk, maybe. It definitely looks more polished then the other three. And two of those are Wii U games. The draw distance looks pretty good too. As long as the 3D is good and it plays at 30+ fps I'll get it.
I plan on getting one or more of these clones. I'll be watching them with great interest
Since this one is being made by experienced developers that have made good games in the past such as thorium wars, I think this one will have the best chance of being a decent mc clone.
Hopefully Microsoft will try and sue, resulting in an out of court settlement that sees Minecraft ported to Wii U and 3DS. Best case scenario. Then GTA4 and Assassins Creed Rogue magically follow for some reason.
This one looks nicer than the one with guns.
