Re: Level-5 CEO Reveals Fresh 'Fantasy Life i' Screenshots, Teases More Info Coming Soon

VoidofLight

@Spider-Kev This isn't remotely true. Majority of PS5 games are still on the disc in full. Sure, you have to "install," but that is different from downloading- as installing a game is copying the data from the disc over onto the console's storage. PCs used to do this before the move to all digital gaming.

I can take my copy of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on PS5 and play it without even needing to connect to the internet once. Sure, it won't have the day 1 patch- but majority of the game's content and such are still found on the two discs that come with the game. Same with something like Final Fantasy XVI, Shadow of the Colossus, Ni No Kuni, and most likely the new Fantasy Life (if I were to even buy it in the first place).

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition Has Been Rated For Switch

VoidofLight

@ottoecamn @Debo626 Every time people tend to say this, but it doesn't mean that at all. The reason why it says "in-game purchases" is because you'll need a Switch Online membership in order to play the Multiplayer content, with the game probably having a way to direct you to the Switch Online subscription stuff. Nothing more than that.

Re: Nintendo's Switch 2 Announcement Reportedly Impacted Steam Deck Sales

VoidofLight

@Joeynator3000 Yeah, the Steamdeck is super heavy and the way the controls are laid out doesn't really help with the clunky feeling. I also really don't like the whole steamdeck smell thing, or the issues that come with the vent system on the console. I was setting up my Steamdeck for sale (wiping the data), only for the vents at the top to burn my hand when I touched them. People say the exhaust smells good, but I really don't think it does.

Re: Poll: So, How Would You Feel About 24 Racers In Mario Kart 9?

VoidofLight

@PinderSchloss People said this same exact thing about Odyssey when it was shown in the Switch reveal, and it turned out that they were dead wrong when the game got officially revealed. This is a teaser of a game that exists. It isn't a tech demo. A tech demo would've been like the Twilight Princess one that was shown off when the Wii U was originally coming out. Something which reuses assets instead of making new ones for the sake of a trailer.

This is Mario Kart 9.

Re: Nintendo Breaks Silence On 'Switch 2' Image And Video Leaks

VoidofLight

"It's not official."

So basically it's a pointless statement. They didn't confirm, nor did they deny that this is what the switch 2 looks like. It makes sense, given that if it is, they're planning on revealing it anyways later down the line. If it isn't, then they're going to prove that wrong inevitably. To me though, too many companies are coming out and saying it's real- so I feel like it's more than likely real at this point.

Re: Yes, We're Getting Closer To Pokémon Day

VoidofLight

I'm not putting any bets on Z-A being cross-gen honestly. It isn't something Gamefreak's done before, so I doubt they'll do it here. Interested to see what the game is like though- along with what the graphics look like and how it runs.

Re: Is This Our Best Look Yet At 'Switch 2'?

VoidofLight

@Ralizah I mean the mouse censors I'd argue will change how games can be played much akin to the 3D depth switch. It opens the door to touch screen controls in docked mode for example. There's also speculation on what the top USB C-port could be, which could amount to attachments like a camera attachment or something.

Re: Surprise Leak Reveals Lenovo Is Making Another Switch-Like Gaming Handheld

VoidofLight

@progx Pretty much, yeah. Things like the Steamdeck only really appeal to the hardcore gaming market- and mostly the PC market as well. It carved out its own niche, same with how the Switch did with IPads. The only real competition for Switch would be Sony's handheld and Microsoft's handheld when those end up releasing-and even then Nintendo will have had the Switch 2 out for a good few years before they get their systems out.

Re: Surprise Leak Reveals Lenovo Is Making Another Switch-Like Gaming Handheld

VoidofLight

@Bolt_Strike The thing is that Nintendo can get away with having a switch that's just more powerful because of one thing and one thing alone. The system caters to more casual audiences who are mostly playing for your Marios and Zeldas. To them, a more powerful version of the console which has more of the experiences they're looking for and a few smaller gimmicks will entice them to make a purchase.

These handheld PCs like your steamdecks and the like are all pretty much for enthusiasts. People who already own a PC, and would like to have a novelty item that allows them to play their PC games wherever they are. Something which the majority of Nintendo's audience don't have nor care about.

Re: 'Switch 2' Replica Showcased By Accessory Maker Genki At CES 2025

VoidofLight

@Keman I don't know how many times I have to say this to you- but the console is actually real. Like this is the form the next console is taking. The console shown off in all of these promotional materials and at events is a mock-up based off the actual schematics. The factory leaks though? That's 100% real. The plastic is using a technique that only industrial plants use- which rules out any fan made mock-ups.

ON top of this, you say Nintendo wouldn't do the same concept twice, but I have news for you. Check out the DS and 3DS. Check out the Gameboy. Nintendo has done this before in the past- and it has been a success. The Switch is a handheld console, and the Switch 2 looks different enough for people to know that it isn't just the same console again but slightly different.

If Nintendo could get away with having a more powerful DS with one central gimmick (the 3D effect) then Nintendo can get away with reusing the Switch form-factor with it's own gimmick (that probably being connected to the joycon censors and C-button).

Re: 'Switch 2' Replica Showcased By Accessory Maker Genki At CES 2025

VoidofLight

@AussieMcBucket This is way different from the current switch. The joycon have mouse censors on the sides and there's the C button that'll probably lead to some new feature. Same with the USB C plug at the top, which could be used for possibly new attachments of some sort.

The 3DS was basically a DS with more power behind it and the 3D slider.

Re: Random: Switch Players Report Game Cards Being Swapped Out For Googly Eyes

VoidofLight

@pneumaticgnosis Unfortunately this is real. Maybe not the photos on Reddit, but this whole thing is. Especially if you buy the games from Walmart. People purchase a copy and then remove the game. They put this wire and a googly eye to fake the weight, rattle, and color of the cartridge of the game. Then they rewrap the copies and bring them back to Walmart in order to exchange them. Walmart puts those games back on the shelves and sells them as new, only for a customer to pick it up and purchase it.

This is why shopping at Walmart for new games isn't a great idea.

Re: NieR:Automata Surpasses Another Sales Milestone, Plans For 2025 Teased

VoidofLight

@GeneJacket Exactly. The man jokes around a ton. A ton of his interview statements are pretty big jokes. My favorite one is from the Sun and the Moon CD booklet:

"Hello. I'm YOKO TARO, the creative director. Or... perhaps it's more accurate to say I used to be. If you're reading this message, that means I've already been disposed of. At this very moment, in the year 2023, they've replaced most of the Re[in]carnation development team, and it's possible they are slowly taking over Square Enix in its entirety. If they remain unchecked, they will soon take over Japan--no, the entire world. But there is hope. You, the person reading this message, are the only one who can save us from this danger. There's no time, so I'll quickly tell you what needs to happen. First, at the very moment I die, agents will knock on your door. Tell the agents the password. The password is... Yes, let's make it your bank account PIN. Next, you must give the agents your ATM card and bank book. Within twenty-four hours, the agents will forge those two items into a weapon you can wield. The enemy will not fall without this weapon. They're tapping into the lines, so don't even think about calling another person. This is it. I leave the world... in your hands."

Another thing to note as well about Yoko Taro is that his games start off with having characters that seem pretty much like surface-level archetypes, only for the layers to be pulled back one after another as you go through the endings and the game's side materials. Drakengard 3 for example with Zero.

Re: Best Of 2024: The Company You Can Pay To X-Ray Unopened Pokémon Card Packs Speaks Out

VoidofLight

This seems pointless. Don't you have to purchase the cards and send them to the company to get scanned in the first place? Especially given no one's going to have an X-Ray machine that they can just walk around with. Many stores also put the cards behind the registers so that people can't just walk in and steal them. Now it'll be the same but for people trying to scan them.

Pokemon "investors" are pretty sad individuals. They chase after perceived value of cards, and never even open the sets they buy. I knew one, and they were pretty much a jerk. Can't see any of these other glorified scalpers being anything other than that.

Re: NieR:Automata Surpasses Another Sales Milestone, Plans For 2025 Teased

VoidofLight

@DripDropCop146 I don't think it's a "death of the author" scenario. A lot of the themes in Automata were things that Yoko Taro intended based off interviews with him. Things like "Would you give yourself up to help others," or how NieR as a whole is based off of "You don't have to be insane to kill someone- you just have to think that you're in the right." How the series started as an anti-war message that changed a bit when 9/11 happened. These games have always played around with themes regarding humanity and religious allegories.

@KidSparta Probably not Gestalt DLC. Yoko Taro and Saito have been talking about a brand new game they were working on for a good while now. Something that Yoko Taro has been wanting to do.

Re: NieR:Automata Surpasses Another Sales Milestone, Plans For 2025 Teased

VoidofLight

@wiiware The gameplay for the original Drakengard is pretty rough until you get to the Dragon combat- but Drakengard 3 has some pretty good gameplay (assuming you aren't playing on original hardware).

NieR Replicant 1.22 had pretty good gameplay as well. Gestalt is alright from what I've heard, but the magic is a bit finicky in that one.

I didn't really care for Automata's combat system personally. It's fine for what it was, but I clicked way more with Drakengard 3's combat and Replicant 1.22's combat.

I doubt Platinum is going to be making the new NieR as well, given that the company is losing all of it's talent for Clovers. If I had to guess, Toylogic is probably going to end up being the primary developer given their work on Replicant 1.22- and how Yoko Taro tends to go for more low budget titles.

Re: NieR:Automata Surpasses Another Sales Milestone, Plans For 2025 Teased

VoidofLight

@babybilly I personally like the one Drakengard game I've played so far, but the games are incredibly janky compared to NieR Replicant and NieR Automata. If you play on original hardware- Drakengard 3 runs so poorly that it's almost unplayable.

Drakengard 1's issue is mostly just the gameplay itself being dated. Outside of that- the games have some pretty good narratives attached to them, and the music is great. Drakengard 1 has one of the more unconventional OSTs in a game.

Drakengard 2 exists I guess. It isn't canon and you don't really have to play it. It was one of the only games in the series that Yoko Taro never worked on writing-wise.

@The-Chosen-one There's three characters in the story that you play as, and you get to play as all three of them depending on different story moments.
