Re: Random: Xenoblade Chronicles X Pops Up On Microsoft PC Game Page

@HingryHuppo You went on to use Sega as an example, which I brought up that Sega isn't an apt example as Nintendo and Sega are two entirely different companies with entirely different goals. I'm not being argumentative. I'm saying why the comparison you brought up in the first place isn't accurate.

Nintendo is again, a company that produces video game consoles. They make their money off of selling hardware. They sell said hardware at a loss however, and utilize software within that hardware to make that money back. Sega failed immensely in the console space, so they backed out and became a third party developer. Meanwhile Nintendo has been going strong solely based off of exclusive software on their hardware.

Also, you're forgetting that you're the one who responded to my comment in the first place. You came across as argumentative within the first comment, so I don't get why you're pinning the blame of this being an argument onto me.

Re: Random: Xenoblade Chronicles X Pops Up On Microsoft PC Game Page

@HingryHuppo These are different situations. Nintendo wouldn't team up with Microsoft to list one of their first party games on a list for PC games. This is legit just an AI making an error.

Nintendo losing exclusivity for their franchises and putting them on other platforms like PC will spell doom for the company, given they rely on exclusives to sell consoles. Nintendo is primarily a gaming company, while Sony and Microsoft aren't. Nintendo has more to lose than they have to gain with selling their games on platforms like Steam.

Re: A Second Voice Actor Has Confirmed They Will Not Return For Persona 4 Remake

VoidofLight

@MirrorFate2 For Episode Aigis, I agree they butchered that, but I don't think they butchered the main story. Akihiko's the only one out of the new cast that sounds off, with the rest either sounding on par with their original voices, or better than their original voices.

I don't prefer Reload because of recency bias. I prefer it because it allows me to actually decide what I want my party members to do instead of forcing me to just roll with the punches that the NPC characters give me. I prefer Reload because it allows for that without taking away the cutscenes in their entirety, which Portable did.

I don't really care for the exclusion of the FEMC, and I say this as a woman myself. It sucks that a lot of the anime cutscenes were replaced, but given the small budget- and the fact that CG in games can reach the levels of those original scenes, it doesn't bug me as much. The only scene that I have issues with was the Awakening of Thanatos, which feels very stiff in comparison to the original animated scene. Would've preferred if they spent the budget on animating that instead of animating Yukari taking a shower.

Re: Persona 4 Voice Actor May Have Accidentally Confirmed The Remake

VoidofLight

@MirrorFate2 The new cast in Reload is actually way better than the old? Like a lot of the voices for the characters in Reload actually fit the characters. Even fans of the original Persona 3 talk about how horrible the original voices for Aigis and Fuuka were.

As for Persona 4's remake, a good few of the older VAs probably weren't going to be able to return anyways. A lot of them either don't voice act at all anymore (Naoto's VA), or if they do, their voice aged a lot to the point where they don't really sound like the characters anymore. Persona 4 is notorious for recasting characters for every piece of media regarding it as well. Kanji got recasted in the anime, Chie's original VA got recasted in Golden. Naoto has been through 2-3 voices already. It sucks that Yuri wasn't allowed to come back even though he wanted to voice Yosuke again, but if they're going to have to replace some actors, they might as well replace all of them I guess.

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update 2.0.7 Patch Notes - Switch & Switch 2 Multiplayer Compatibility "Improved"

@MrRom92 Not really missing the point here. Discounting a new Animal Crossing because "the old one sold well, and Nintendo will want to maximize profits by upgrading it and adding new content to it" is like saying "Splatoon 2 is going to get content updates through out the entirety of the system's life, and there won't be a Splatoon 3," or "Mario Kart 8 will just get more DLC because it's an evergreen title instead of them making a brand new Mario Kart!"

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update 2.0.7 Patch Notes - Switch & Switch 2 Multiplayer Compatibility "Improved"

@sanderev Pokemon games are entirely different games with similar gameplay elements. Scarlet and Violet were games that needed performance patches because of the state which they released within. Animal Crossing is primarily the same experience, hence why we never got a remake of a prior Animal Crossing game before. Animal Crossing New Horizons released unfinished content-wise, but was polished.

Plus, Animal Crossing 6 is probably coming out either sometime at the end of this year- or sometime next given how New Horizon's dev cycle was only 7 years due to the transition into HD and the Wii U's issues.

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update 2.0.7 Patch Notes - Switch & Switch 2 Multiplayer Compatibility "Improved"

VoidofLight

@sanderev Unless the wait for the next Animal Crossing game is super long, I don't see a case where they update New Horizons. Especially if the new game is taking New Horizon's base and expanding upon it. Reusing assets and graphics that they already had made for New Horizons in the first place.

@Mz3player While that is true, I don't think that changes anything. Nintendo stopped adding content with the 2.0 update- making it clear that they're done with New Horizons in terms of content. Given how New Horizons functions as a game progression-wise, adding more content on top of what's already there would mess up the flow. Especially when the content that the updates added up to 2.0 was content that was supposed to be in the game at launch but was left out due them releasing the game unfinished. I also think given that the team made Splatoon 2 and Splatoon 3 on the same console, there's definitely room to argue that a new Animal Crossing is going to be made for Switch 2.

@Oldstalk Exactly. New Horizons selling well ensured that there's going to be a new game on the next system. Even if that new game won't sell as well as New Horizons did, they're definitely going to make use of the series' popularity.

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update 2.0.7 Patch Notes - Switch & Switch 2 Multiplayer Compatibility "Improved"

VoidofLight

@MrRom92 Oh boy, you must be incredibly new to the series then. They put a new Animal Crossing game on the 3DS even though it could play Wild World, which is a DS game. The Switch 2 is just the 3DS to the Switch's DS. We're 100% getting a new Animal Crossing game, and it's bound to come within the new few years given the dev cycle for the series.

Re: Opinion: Not Enough People Are Talking About This Early GOTY Contender

VoidofLight

@Overzeal It isn't done because they don't like the original though. It's done because the original jokes won't have the same impact due to different cultural contexts. Either that, or wordplay jokes literally won't work because words in Japanese don't exist in English, and words that exist in English don't exist in Japanese.

An Ai direct translation is genuinely going to make the quality of these games suffer more. Mainly because it's impossible to directly translate Japanese and keep the impact of what's being said. Most direct translations end up being extremely dry, even when the Japanese version ends up being poetic or interesting.

Localization, like it or not is actually needed. Sometimes it can be done poorly like with Yokai Watch, but a lot of games tend to be more respectful to the source material while relating it to other cultures.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Dev Used Procedural Generation To Manage 100,000 Different Assets

VoidofLight

@HeadPirate The issue is that there's still a substantial difference between Generative Ai and Procedural Generation. Procedural Generation requires a lot of human work to actually make something out of, while GenAi removes the human element from the process. All of the assets used in procedural generation has to still be hand-made by the team, as from my understanding, procedural generation just acts as a mixing and matching of those assets within pre-set perimeters.

GenAi on the other hand scrapes and is built off of data that isn't consensually scraped, and is harsher on the environment in the way that it is used. It is utilized to remove the actual artists from the art, and doesn't need a human hand to be utilized in the slightest.

While both of these are forms of Ai, there is a massive difference imo, which makes something like Procedural Generation more understandable and justifiable than Generative Ai.

Re: Danganronpa Creator's "Multi-Genre" Game Is Out September, And It Sounds Absolutely Wild

VoidofLight

@Overzeal From what I've seen of things, they didn't really mess it up? Like at all? A lot of jokes were re-written, but that was mainly because the game had a bunch of jokes that were either specific to Japanese culture, or Japanese wordplay. Stuff that couldn't really carry the same meaning in the West. If you want a messed up Localization, play Yokai Watch- where they tried to erase all of Japanese culture from the game.

Re: Fortnite Devs Hit With Unfair Labour Practice Filing Following AI Darth Vader Fiasco

VoidofLight

I don't think they're going after James Earl Jone's wishes, but rather Epic's use of technology that so happens to utilize his voice. This tech seems to have breached some sort of agreement with SAG-AFTRA.

Even then though, I feel like this battle is worthless inherently. All they're doing is putting more negative publicity on them, and making people despise unions/be pro corporate more.

@babybilly I think the thing that people despise this Union for is mainly just the stunts they pulled to try to get conditions they wanted. The one that I remember off of the top of my head is the Bayonetta situation, where they got the original voice actor to go after Platinum for being "unfair" with the recasting of the character role. In that situation, they came across as bullies- which continues to follow them into a situation like this. You also have a lot of people who see Ai voice acting as not being a huge deal (despite it being a massive one), and so they're attacking anyone who's challenging that.

Another thing to note is that a lot of people here are mostly reacting to the headline, and they haven't actually read the statement put out by the union at all.
