I mean, if they want. Always good to have more options. I personally wouldn't care for it, and I would have to wonder how much money Nintendo would even save by not including a cartridge slot. I imagine not too much money, at least compared to a Blu ray disc drive being taken out of a home console.
I mean...yeah it can get hot, but I imagine it's designed to withstand whatever games it plays, I hope? Same for the other consoles, I never understood attaching something the console should be designed to do anyway. If it doesn't, then you need to clean out the dust because something is wrong.
Animal Crossing is a weird game to demo, when most of its appeal is in settling in with it for long periods of time. Oh well, will be cool to see some more footage of the game.
" I wanted to upgrade from a Switch Lite to the standard model steps over a line from 'ah, Nintendo gonna Nintendo' into something that's consumer-unfriendly and, ultimately, damaging to the company's business."
Really well said. I wasn't even aware of the situation regarding being unable to transfer over to a new Switch. Nintendo are absolute experts at taking what should be common sense, and making it into some apparently insurmountable issue. Even better, if they actually acknowledge it as an issue, the "fix" is always something extremely obtuse and unintuitive.
Just like it's really dumb when Nintendo tries to say this, it's just as dumb that Microsoft is trying to do the same. Whether they wanna believe it or not, in the general population, it will probably always be Sony Vs Microsoft (and vs Nintendo, to a lesser extent)
I feel like now, more than ever before, Pikmin has a chance to shine just as the article says at the end. The original 2 were on the ill-fated gamecube. Bad sales numbers for the console as a whole, not just Pikmin. Then the wii only got the remasters, which must have done well enough considering the size of the Wii userbase. Which of course led to Pikmin 3, which, like the Gamecube, was ill fated to sell disastrous numbers. But now games that did horrible on the Wii U are doing decent on the Switch thanks to the HUGE userbase and added exposure that comes with it.
So re release the games as a pack and I bet they'll sell much better than ever before.
As far as strictly Nintendo goes? I mean... maaaaaaaybe I'd agree? Tbh I feel like something like Galaxy 2 or Odyssey deserve that title way more. Speaking only of Nintendo, of course.
It really sucks seeing Nintendo just make their mobile games more and more greedy. Seeing these franchises doing these schemes is extremely disappointing. I know that's what the mobile market expects at this point, but I'm disappointed Nintendo went all-in. Really wish Mario Run was more successful for them.
Eh, I give them a pass since it honestly does seem like the natural evolution to that hideous 2013 device. That had analogue sticks and buttons too. The Switch-like new design seems like the natural next step. But yeah, "clone" and all that.
I just gotta be honest, the game has always struck me as kind of a more mindless form of the Skell combat from Xenoblade X. I'm glad that it's still fun, though. 7/10 is pretty much about what I was expecting
Thats cool and all, but reports about Dr. Mario World and previews of Mario Kart Tour's economy don't really seem to fit with what I'm reading here. Not to mention Pocket Camp had lootboxes added to it post-launch. Sorry, but Nintendo isn't gonna get a pass from me just because I love their home console and games.
Yeah, Nintendo has the right, doesn't make it any less crappy, though. Hate when that's used as a defense. Especially reading some of these comments. It's amazing what people will say to justify their precious Nintendo, lol. And with such furor, too, it's kinda hilarious
Lol this is most definitely not a Nintendo-inspired invention. Removable physical inputs have been a thing for phones since way before the Switch was introduced. Though I know this being a Nintendo fan site and all, it's tempting to point and say "look at how they copy Nintendo", but in this case it's just not true.
That's literally all Nintendo needed to add to the Pro Controller, both for the Wii U and the Switch. Not even for voice chat, but just being able to play docked while using headhones that aren't bluetooth. They couldn't even manage that, for some reason. At least these are a thing now, though it's very limited
@Silly_G If only it was just $10, but no, people think $10 for a full, complete, quality Mario game is somehow too expensive but are happy spending hundreds on the gacha garbage that is pretty much all their other phone games so far. I honestly can't blame Nintendo here, they gave it an honest shot and were smacked down pretty hard by their fans in the mobile market
idk why people seem so salty about a Switch mini existing lol. Not only is it inevitable, like literally every other Nintendo handheld console, but it's been long enough that this time frame pretty much makes sense for such an announcement. I'm more interested in the rumored stronger SKU though
It's a shame to see Kirkhope so pessimistic, but I get where he's coming from. But with games like N'Sane trilogy, Spyro, Hat in Time, and I'm sure some others making pretty big waves, it's kinda hard to keep subscribing to the "traditional 3D platformers won't sell". Especially these days where nostalgia has effectively switched over to the days of PS1 and N64 games, where for years prior it was mostly about 2D games. I feel like now more than ever, a platformer Banjo might actually do decently.
Also let's not forget that the only thing they've tried since Tooie was a game about building cars. Which, while fun, is such an awful barometer for how people would receive a 3D platformer sequel.
Nintendo is the only one of the main 3 that honestly has no excuse to not come out swinging. Nintendo's not biding their time for a new console release like MS and Sony clearly are, so I expect stuff to excite me on par with 2017's Switch releases. Already off to a good start by default as long as Luigi's Mansion is still 2019
@NotTelevision Nah, you make sense. Nintendo loves doing "available now" surprises, and Cadence of Hyrule is important, but small enough that it's a perfect candidate for a surprise release. I will be surprised if ends up -not- being a surprise E3 drop
Again, this is a really weird choice. Even weirder than the multiplayer thing because it already was in the first game. And I doubt they built this one from scratch, so they had to specifically take it out when building the sequel. I mean this one's not a deal breaker for me, but again, it's just a really weird decision. Not like they would have had to incorporate any new amiibo if they didn't want to.
As for the multiplayer excuse, that doesn't really fly. Just make them available only when being played by a single person, or something. They're game developers, something like that really shouldn't be that difficult to implement, relatively speaking of course. Oh well, maybe it'll come later, or make a come back in SMM3.
Leave it to Nintendo to announce a very requested feature for their game only for them to do something weird where it almost negates the point of having asked for the feature in the first place. Only Nintendo. The online multiplayer announcement made me a day 1 buyer, but this almost makes me want to forgo the game. Does it at least have same console local co-op?
no one seems to realize why the whole "florida man" thing is so common. It has to do with our journalism laws. But don't let that get in the way of memeing!
I'm not sure I understand what the last tweet from Casey Thrower is saying. Maybe it's just too early and my brain isn't on fully (a likely scenario), but what does "We could pretty much tell what was going to be announced by looking and seeing what was shown previously with P5 and link to the past" mean exactly? Were they able to accurately predict game announcements with similar games in the past and he's saying that P5 and LTTP are likely real based on that?
My favorite part about these rumors is all the Playstation / Persona fans that seem oddly offended at the idea that people think the game will release on Switch
In an ideal world, a Pro Switch would have no exclusives, but instead boost all Switch games to resolutions and framerates better than the OG Switch can do, and that's it. Once people start designing specifically for the newer hardware, then it becomes an issue.
It's amazing to me that people think anyone outside of the absolute most hardcore Nintendo faithful would even register this as a blip on the VR radar. It's not gonna have a single effect on the "VR market" good or bad, because it's not substantial enough in any way to have one. That'd be like saying the cheap knockoff Chinese VR headsets in the bargain bins at Walmart have an effect on the VR population. They don't, lol
That's cute and all, but they're still gonna be in there. I think Nintendo just wants the good PR of this move while also still raking in ridiculous amounts of cash rather than just changing how the games operate to not need gacha mechanics.
I mean, still, good for them for at least trying to limit people, but I'm not gonna sit here and say how generous of them
Oh really? I'm sure all the leftover employees must have the highest morale possible after learning 8% of the workforce was dropped despite bringing in record revenue. What a surprise that they would feel antsy that maybe their jobs aren't secured even when they DO succeed.
It's one of those things that you probably notice but never really care enough to comment on since it does its job well. It's like the bushes in Mario bros. also being clouds. Just efficient.
Hindsight is always gonna be 20/20, so I fully expect plenty of "of course it wasn't real, because I never believed it and anyone who thought it was real is an idiot, I'm so smart" comments
Considering it was mostly the kinds of games that Japanese people really love, that's no surprise. I enjoyed it, but only because Link's Awakening stole the show. Before that I found it lukewarm simply because many of the anime games they showed aren't typically what gets me hyped
As much as I did enjoy Pikmin 3, I was really hoping for a double or triple pack of all the games in HD. Plus, it's also the most recent Pikmin. I guess it would be easier to port that over than giving an HD treatment for the first two, but it would have been worth it to have all the titles on a single console, even if it was just one at a time
In a world where the 2DS existed and undermined the main gimmick of the 3DS, it's hard to say for sure that Nintendo won't do something silly like making an Un-Switchable Switch version, but I really hope they don't, that'd be pointless.
