I mentioned this the day it came out, and have gotten more than one splitting headache just trying to read the text. It's really silly that they didn't think to include a resizer, or at least have more of that information available on the gamepad
@madadam81 the wii u is not as strong as the competition. That's just a fact. If they found a way to make the wii u maps slightly bigger than their 360 maps, great for them. But it just doesn't have the juice to match what the ps4 and One do for the game. Considering the apparent lack of effort for those port, I'm pretty sure it's safe to say we're getting the 360 version. Because 360 titles are the easiest to port, according to the Dev community, when it comes to the wii u
@madadam81 because the wii u is much closer to the ps3/360 in power than the current gen consoles. As well as the fact that porting 360 games is easy and doesn't require much work for the wii u. I highly doubt they made a version specific to wii u.
@madadam81 the world sizes on console versions of minecraft are small, whereas on the pc they're endless. The ps3 and 360 had very small worlds, which is what I'm assuming the wii u version is based off of. The ps4 and One worlds are six times bigger than their predecessors. And they cost $20
No gamepad inventory management, $10 more than other, bigger versions (ps4, one), still more expensive than the PC version (though not by much). Nah, I'll wait and see what that "nintendo exclusive" content looks like before I give it the time of day
Considering I can barely use my own internet for myself without getting charged extra from Comcast, I laugh at the idea of having to share it with other people not even in my house. It's a cool idea, but simply not feasible for so many people.
So this hints even more heavily that the NX is a home console of some sort. BUT! The way he says he wants to make sure Wii U fans have stuff to play makes me think the NX won't come out for a little while, unless they plan on releasing Wii U games after the NX launches, which I don't think would happen
Honestly, with how offended people get with others not enjoying games as much as they do, I can say I do somewhat enjoy criticizing their recent games. People here are so sensitive, it's hard to take them seriously when they get mad at you for not liking a game to death
I am definitely hyped for some Pikmin 4 news and hopefully a release date for Federation Force (Hey it looks like fun, even if it's not the Metroid I wanted). TPHD would be a welcome surprise as well
Honestly, I think this game is gonna go down as being underrated in my books. Same as the DS games. It's very well made, and surprisingly challenging when it comes to certain puzzles, alone or with people
@shani having a download kiosk in a store utterly defeats the purpose of going digital anyway. And it definitely wouldn't be a minority. I have comcast, as does a huge chunk of the country. And that's just the US. In other countries, internet speeds are a thousand times worse. Digital only is extremely restrictive and prohibitive for a large number of consumers.
The PS4 and Xbox one discs aren't useless, and I have no idea why anyone would say they were. Yes, it installs onto the harddrive, but by buying the disc with 80+GB of information on it, you're saving yourself hours if not days of downloading the data using your own internet. The discs are far from useless.
I honestly find it worrying that so many people are so ready to heap praise on Nintendo for thinking about a discless console (assuming it's all digital). All digital just isn't possible for most people. I have a 300GB internet cap for my service provider. With game sizes getting bigger, it's simply unfeasible and outright crazy to want an all-digital future.
no, the future lies in compromise. In which digital and physical goods coexist, it shouldn't be one of the other.
This seems like a reaching list for "Biggest wii u games". Fatal Frame is super niche, and probably small. Tennis definitely doesn't look like anything hype worthy. And those indie games, I've never even heard of most of them. Without StarFox, Zelda, or Mario, seems the Wii U is ending the year on a gentle sputter.
Oh man so freaking hype. I hope it's a Wii U game rather than a handheld one, as much as I would love either. The HD visuals were too good to go back on
I agree. It's cute that they're so friendly with these small developers, and everyone loves the quirky little games, but no one is going to be buying a Nintendo console for its selection of indie games. Whether they want to believe it or not, normal 3rd party games are necessary.
I'd only clone the Splatoon amiibo since they're the only ones with significant content ( I feel) stuck behind them. Most of them are just for cosmetic purposes and are not worth buying that little device for.
But when they start locking off more and more content behind them, which they will, then I'm all for Amiibo piracy if they can't be bothered to stock them sufficiently.
It's amazing what people will defend just because Nintendo is doing it. If any other company had the gall to make a discless console I'm betting most of the people praising this would be calling bloody murder, as I'm sure they did when the Xbox One was revealed.
Also, LOL at the people seriously thinking physical media is going to go away. Just like physical books and CD's all went away when things like iTunes and eBooks showed up. People are really desperate to justify every single thing Nintendo does, aren't they.
It doesn't surprise me at all. All he did was paint the company in a negative light, talk down to the most vocal of fans like us who discuss these things (saying "you people" is never a good thing to do), make one of the most famous developers seem petty and angry towards one of Nintendo's biggest franchises, and essentially called NoJ out on its stupid marketing of the word "new".
I feel really bad for him, and I hope he can eventually find a job he's just as passionate about, but he made multiple mistakes. It wasn't just one thing he said, he said many things that was what most likely landed him past "scolding" straight to termination.
@jaxonh that's ridiculous. No one wants to pay more. If given the option to pay less for the same content, people will always opt for that. I have no idea who in their right mind would say "even though I'm getting two games for the price of one, I sure do wish I could pay full price for both." and Japan is different from the west. The games do well there regardless, meanwhile the west is more wary of the franchise.
It wouldn't really surprise me if they gave us both for the price of one. Chances are they'd want to increase value in the West to entice buyers to support the game. Let's be honest, the game already didn't have a very healthy image of being "split in two" whether or not you agree with that statement. This could ensure the success of the game. I'm all for it. Who in their right mind would WANT to spend an extra $40 on a whole other version of a game?
I'd say Mario Kart 8 is the only shining example. Smash is, in my opinion, going overboard with it. The pricing is not the best, and the costumes, while cool, are not worth their prices.
Splatoon is neither good nor bad. It's had all this finished content since release, they just decided to allow us access to it on a week by week basis. Not bad, but nothing to praise the game over. Admittedly, it is a nice way to keep fans interested. But I don't feel like they were doing me a favor by holding back finished stuff.
Mario Kart 8, however, was great. Over half the base game's worth of content for $15. Great price, great content, a bit of a wait but not as long as some other games.
I think an HD upgrade for launch day NX's would be amazing. With all the DLC being put out and the increasing audience of Competitive smash, having a game ready for launch of the new console could be a huge success for Nintendo. Of course, people would complain, but considering a number of other publishers have been getting away with re releasing games barely a year old, I think Nintendo should be able to do something similar.
Oh I must have misread when you implied that developers that make more than 1 or 2 games per console are inferior
"Nintendo doesn't do market oversaturation, you'll get maybe one entry in a series per system; possibly two, whereas you can guarantee multiple franchise entries from publishers on other consoles as quickly as they can churn them out"
Lol just going by what you said. It doesn't matter if you didn't get all the games, that doesn't change the fact that Nintendo has been "churning out" multiple Zelda games over the last two years. So yeah, you're a hypocrite.
@Sean_Aaron You know, there's been a Zelda game every year, and sometimes multiple times a year, since 2013. Link Between Worlds, Wind Waker HD, Hyrule Warriors, Majora's Mask, TriForce Heroes this year and Hyrule Warriors 3DS at the beginning of Next year. But something tells me you don't mind those because you like the franchise. But somehow other companies releasing games every year is a bad thing?
@project_dolphin gimmicks aren't inherently bad. But they are not helping Nintendo at all. They are hurting them, at least with the wii u they are. And the 3DS 's gimmick has proven worthless in getting people to buy it. But that's what they are, gimmicks, intended to get people to buy the console.not bad by nature, but tiresome, especially after its shown to not help Nintendo.
@Aromaiden I totally agree. At the very least, they should stick to the gamepad and make it an optional accessory to the next console so they can continue working on ideas for it, or at least use it for Off Tv play. Instead of coming up with something completely different yet again.
Innovating implies that whatever they're doing is something the rest of the industry adopts. And that really didn't happen with the tablet controller, 3D, or Wii remote aside from inspire copycats that also didn't take off. No, it's not innovation unless it truly changes how we play games or think about playing games. What Nintendo does is the very definition of gimmicks. Splatoon? Innovation of the shooter genre. Wii U? Console with a gimmick. A fun console, but a gimmick that has proven to be a failure.
Personally, I think I've had enough of Nintendo's "off-the wall" hardware design. They've had their fun with the wii remote and game pad. I just want something that improves upon standard features, with maybe a little twist.
"I'm not suggesting for one moment that Nintendo should replace experienced, talented senior executives and staff in Kyoto"
I am. They need to clean out some house and get fresher minds in there. Or simply add western ideas to the mix instead of having a boardroom filled with super conservative japanese people that don't know the first thing about what western markets want.
@aromaiden ah okay, I see then. Yeah I can agree with that. Though my ideal scenario would be them hiring a western developer to work on the multiplayer while they make the single player, haha
Are they now allowed to have more than one online shooter? We should cancel federation force then. Plus, what I'm describing would be more like Halo. Rich single player, with a robust online multiplayer mode.
I really liked Other M's gameplay. Lots of fun. I'm astounded that Hunters is the only Metroid game to feature online multiplayer. If Nitnendo cared enough to flesh the idea out, the online multiplayer on a console Metroid could be a HUGE selling point. Like a cross between Halo or Unreal tournament. They really should consider it for the next game.
Bravo on the title and article. People need to realize that power isn't just prettier games. It's also how a console just performs. Imagine being able to bring up miiverse instantly because of available console multi tasking? Or a faster eShop loading? There's so much Nintendo can improve with power aside from graphics.
As for the content of the article, it's true that most consumers go for either cutting edge or cheaper, throwaway experiences. And all signs point to another Wii situation. But I think Nintendo is making a big mistake thinking cheaper will mean better for them. But we will see. I think their brand is too damaged to be taken seriously by the majority of PS4/One players if it's weaker and the casuals they hope to attract won't care about a cheap dedicated console since they have phones that play games already. Leaving it in awkward territory once again. Those are my thoughts, at least
As long as they start putting in online multiplayer in more of their games, sure. I can't imagine how fun Pikmin would have been if we could play with people around the world. Certainly better than the useless splitscreen Bingo Battle
Just as I have always guessed. NoJ retains too much power over the company and develop for their tiny market first and foremost. They have an innate fear of anything western, and won't adopt any of their ideas unless they're dragged kicking and screaming.
~Sigh~ the future doesn't look so good for Nintendo. Not if they don't seriously change how they do business.
