Is it the end of the world? No Is it absolutely imperative it has those things? also no Is it ridiculous that they couldn't get such simple things onto their console that every other piece of tech under the sun has? Absolutely
@Baker1000 You explained my thoughts much more eloquently than I could have. Thank you.
The "It's a video game platform first guys!" really does just sound like more of an excuse than an actual reason. People are free to be okay with that, but I just find it really fishy and weird how people are so eager to celebrate the -exclusion- of features compared to past Nintendo consoles and other current consoles.
I feel like people lower their standards more and more as Nintendo keeps telling us what's -not- in the Switch.
"Oh it doesn't have a web browser, or any other features that are standard in pretty much every piece of tech today? Well I wouldn't have really used them anyway, so... I'm glad they didn't include them"
I remember having my mind blown on launch day seeing the logo pop out during calibration. After months of seeing reactions to it on the Internet, it felt like magic. But like most others, I preferred to leave it off to save on the eye strain and battery drain. I will miss it a bit. It's not something that was ever going to change how we play games but it was a harmless, fun extra that gave us a new perspective on some game worlds. Not essential or groundbreaking but very fun to fiddle with now and again
And here I was thinking people would enjoy not being nickel and dimed. At every turn. But I guess it's true when they say you teach others how to treat you, and people seem to want to be ripped off
Yes it Sucks. But people that feel burned can get a full refund. The end. Don't gotta support them if they're not doing what you want. That's kind of the point of kickstarter.
@Zebetite I remember getting horrific headaches playing this game for longer than twenty minutes at a time. The text was so tiny I was constantly straining just to see what skill I had selected. The fact that they never patched it to be adjustable is a HUGE source of frustration for me. It was the only time I'd ever felt so physically ill just playing a game
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I'm not sure I understand the card thing. What exactly would it do?
Also.... Damn. I was really, really hoping for breath of the wile to be a launch title rather than Mario. But either way, it seems gamexplain was onto something about the hat shop that was shown in the video clip. I trust Dale enough to believe all that as true
@Xaessya most definitely. So I hope they realize how silly it'd be if they said they were serious about taking on esports and then make excuses as to why voice chat just won't happen
It'll be kind of funny seeing them try to have a splatoon tournament in one of those arenas and the team can't hear each other because Nintendo doesn't allow voice chat
@capitalism Actually, it's worth noting that the Entertainment Software Association has found that 59% of Americans play videogames, and 51% own two consoles on average. You might not know anyone with more than one, but your personal experience is just that, your personal experience. Just like any individual saying "I own more than 1" isn't really enough evidence.
but this survey from 2015 is cold hard facts. Most people on average own more than 1.
@-DEMISE- We can at least look at the bright side of all this and see that either we get a public reveal beforehand or they release some information to the shareholders, haha. Even if it's not specifics perhaps we'll at least get a time frame of when they'll talk about it more
@-DEMISE- I think that's debatable actually. If the NX were said to release in December then yeah I would agree they are under no obligation - yet -. But the supposed release is in March, most likely chosen specifically to be included into this financial year. Couple that with the Wii U having absolutely nothing in terms of first party support until the NX launches with BoTW, investors are going to want to know what the rest of the financial year has in store for Nintendo, which includes talking about the NX.
Honestly, I think investors are the only people Nintendo DOES have an obligation to. Certainly not us.
EDIT: Also, keep in mind the 3DS was casually announced officially at such a meeting. As was amiibo. Food for thought.
But I also understand your train of thought as well, just to be clear.
@-DEMISE- I'll credit common sense, actually. And it's pretty much guaranteed because Nintendo has publicly stated they'll talk about it this year. And guess who they actually have to answer to? Investors. And considering its supposed to launch in March, this fiscal year, investors will naturally demand answers as to what the thing is. How much information is debatable but you can bet they're going to be talking about it in some form. It's different than fans wanting information, these are people that fund Nintendo and they can't get away with "we'll talk about it when we're ready", not this close to launch.
If the next time we hear NX is at the meeting, I hope no one credits Rogers considering it is a guarantee that they talk about it in some capacity there. Of course, if they do an announcement besides then this or next week then I'll consider her reliable in the future.
@Tyranexx I doubt it. In this case it's another company just singing praises while the interview was a Nintendo employee acting rather aggressive and possibly giving away the manner in which it would be revealed
@Yorumi so true. Before it seemed like they tinkered with new ideas and toyed with how people thought about certain genres for the sake of fun. Recently it's been more like "no, you want this. You don't want what you think you want. You want what we're making. Don't like it? Too bad."
If they come back with the beta version of tracking, with meters, then I'll get back into. But seriously, screw them for taking their ball and going home instead of just fixing their issues. I do admit though, that since pokevision was actually putting strain on their servers, then it was right of them to take it down. But I don't agree with the people looking down on pokevision users. The exercise portion was still there, and it also proved that the majority of the pokemon in my area are useless pidgeys or rattatas. So now I know even if I do aimlessly wander around, I'm not going to find anything good. It just showed how unfair alot of the pokemon distribution was.
And even the pokedex in the games tells you the general areas where to find pokemon. Maybe if they do something like that I'll get back into it as well.
But mostly I want actual distances, not this silly three paw away nonsense. Or at least a general direction to go with the three paws.
What I read: "Nintendo wants to be different again for the sake of it, trying to combine handheld with home consoles despite the wii u trying the same and resulting in the lowest selling console in their history"
@uncensored Yeah, it's technically hacking the virtual wii in the wii u rather than the wii u itself, but it's relatively easy to do! No clue why Nintendo hasn't done it officially. Perhaps it has to do with the fact that it can only be accessed through the virtual wii, which is disconnected from the rest of the wii u ecosystem.
@uncensored Only way I can imagine is through a homebrewed Wii U, using the virtual wii. Though I wasn't aware you could upscale gamecube games if it's what I'm thinking of
So it's what everyone pretty much expected. Not that it's necessarily bad, just, not any form of a return to form for fans of previous entries of the franchise.
Props to them. They saw the backlash and are offering at least a small taste for free in the hopes of changing people's opinion of the game, if only somewhat. As someone that's given them lots of crap for the game, I recognize this is a really cool idea of theirs. They should do something similar for color splash
I don't see the appeal outside of its cuteness as a small version of an NES. If they do it for all their consoles (up to a reasonable point, obviously), I'd get them just to have a mini lineup of all their consoles. I wouldnt even use them
@RainbowGazelle Haha, I'm glad yours was the first comment. That article subtitle is very untrue as far as Nintendo is concerned. Especially after Nintendo has outright said it.
@Yorumi Good point. That statement turned out to be just as BS as many people thought it was. -sigh- I miss being excited for nintendo instead of disappointed in them
Yeah by shaking out everything that would have made it fun. They only have a SINGLE playable game. Those trailers for other games better be damn impressive if they want to do better than last year's lackluster E3
@msvt You hit the nail on the head. The fact that it was a completely believable idea that Nintendo would actually make something like it says a whole lot about their place in the industry.
@Xaessya You're thinking of silicon knights, the creators of eternal darkness on the Gamecube and the infamously bad x-men game. Silicon studios are the group responsible for bravely default, and I believe are based in Japan
I am convinced that they leave those project titles in as filler. "Look at all the games we have coming out". Especially since they put random eShop games under "3rd party". While technically correct, is obvious they chose them just to make it look like they've got a bunch of support.
I truly hope Nintendo takes a lesson away from Splatoon's success: that online multiplayer is not the devil they think it is. I'd also hope that being able to actually communicate won't instantly make them go bankrupt from lawsuits but.... baby steps, I guess. So, I'm hoping in the future they incorporate online components as well as their usual local multiplayer stuff in games like 3D World or Pikmin. They can't keep pretending the world isn't changing outside of their bubble, and they need to adapt. Quicker, preferably, while keeping what makes them unique.
I guess it ended up being a fine game, but the game launched with way too little for $60. And I'd rather pay and praise for what a game DOES have day one instead of what it might have in the future. but luckily I didn't pay $60, thanks amazon, and it ended up being some decent content. But next time, they should definitely launch with more in the base game. Free or not, having 4 maps at launch for a game focused on multiplayer isn't that great
DLC exclusive to only a certain amount of people would be ripped apart if it was anyone else. But since it's Nintendo, it's alright. That's what i've learned reading comments on various sites today
