Re: Nintendo Switch Lacks A Web Browser Because It's A "Dedicated Video Game Platform"

TuVictus

@Baker1000 You explained my thoughts much more eloquently than I could have. Thank you.

The "It's a video game platform first guys!" really does just sound like more of an excuse than an actual reason. People are free to be okay with that, but I just find it really fishy and weird how people are so eager to celebrate the -exclusion- of features compared to past Nintendo consoles and other current consoles.

Re: Editorial: The 3D Effect - A Smart 3DS Feature That Struggled to Find Its True Depth

TuVictus

I remember having my mind blown on launch day seeing the logo pop out during calibration. After months of seeing reactions to it on the Internet, it felt like magic. But like most others, I preferred to leave it off to save on the eye strain and battery drain. I will miss it a bit. It's not something that was ever going to change how we play games but it was a harmless, fun extra that gave us a new perspective on some game worlds. Not essential or groundbreaking but very fun to fiddle with now and again

Re: Feature: Xenoblade Chronicles X - One Year Later

TuVictus

@Zebetite I remember getting horrific headaches playing this game for longer than twenty minutes at a time. The text was so tiny I was constantly straining just to see what skill I had selected. The fact that they never patched it to be adjustable is a HUGE source of frustration for me. It was the only time I'd ever felt so physically ill just playing a game

Re: Talking Point: Ports vs. Sequels On The Nintendo Switch

TuVictus

@SLIGEACH_EIRE I'm not sure I understand the card thing. What exactly would it do?

Also.... Damn. I was really, really hoping for breath of the wile to be a launch title rather than Mario. But either way, it seems gamexplain was onto something about the hat shop that was shown in the video clip. I trust Dale enough to believe all that as true

Re: Talking Point: Imagining a Future Nintendo Switch Budget Spin-Off - A Non-Switching Microconsole

TuVictus

@capitalism Actually, it's worth noting that the Entertainment Software Association has found that 59% of Americans play videogames, and 51% own two consoles on average. You might not know anyone with more than one, but your personal experience is just that, your personal experience. Just like any individual saying "I own more than 1" isn't really enough evidence.

but this survey from 2015 is cold hard facts. Most people on average own more than 1.

EDIT: Funny enough, I think we linked to the same overall study.

Re: Timing of NX Reveal Remains Up for Debate, as Insight Emerges On Super Mario Run Development

TuVictus

@-DEMISE- I think that's debatable actually. If the NX were said to release in December then yeah I would agree they are under no obligation - yet -. But the supposed release is in March, most likely chosen specifically to be included into this financial year. Couple that with the Wii U having absolutely nothing in terms of first party support until the NX launches with BoTW, investors are going to want to know what the rest of the financial year has in store for Nintendo, which includes talking about the NX.

Honestly, I think investors are the only people Nintendo DOES have an obligation to. Certainly not us.

EDIT: Also, keep in mind the 3DS was casually announced officially at such a meeting. As was amiibo. Food for thought.

But I also understand your train of thought as well, just to be clear.

Re: Timing of NX Reveal Remains Up for Debate, as Insight Emerges On Super Mario Run Development

TuVictus

@-DEMISE- I'll credit common sense, actually. And it's pretty much guaranteed because Nintendo has publicly stated they'll talk about it this year. And guess who they actually have to answer to? Investors. And considering its supposed to launch in March, this fiscal year, investors will naturally demand answers as to what the thing is. How much information is debatable but you can bet they're going to be talking about it in some form. It's different than fans wanting information, these are people that fund Nintendo and they can't get away with "we'll talk about it when we're ready", not this close to launch.

Re: Risa Tabata Talks Paper Mario's New Focus on Puzzle-Solving

TuVictus

@Yorumi so true. Before it seemed like they tinkered with new ideas and toyed with how people thought about certain genres for the sake of fun. Recently it's been more like "no, you want this. You don't want what you think you want. You want what we're making. Don't like it? Too bad."

Re: Editorial: The Rights and Wrongs of Shutting Down Pokemon GO Fan-Made Tools Like Pokévision

TuVictus

If they come back with the beta version of tracking, with meters, then I'll get back into. But seriously, screw them for taking their ball and going home instead of just fixing their issues. I do admit though, that since pokevision was actually putting strain on their servers, then it was right of them to take it down. But I don't agree with the people looking down on pokevision users. The exercise portion was still there, and it also proved that the majority of the pokemon in my area are useless pidgeys or rattatas. So now I know even if I do aimlessly wander around, I'm not going to find anything good. It just showed how unfair alot of the pokemon distribution was.

And even the pokedex in the games tells you the general areas where to find pokemon. Maybe if they do something like that I'll get back into it as well.

But mostly I want actual distances, not this silly three paw away nonsense. Or at least a general direction to go with the three paws.

Re: Hands On: Painting a Clearer Picture of Paper Mario: Color Splash

TuVictus

@uncensored Yeah, it's technically hacking the virtual wii in the wii u rather than the wii u itself, but it's relatively easy to do! No clue why Nintendo hasn't done it officially. Perhaps it has to do with the fact that it can only be accessed through the virtual wii, which is disconnected from the rest of the wii u ecosystem.

Re: Talking Point: Online Gaming Can't Recreate the Unique Fun of Local Multiplayer, Yet It's Dominant

TuVictus

I truly hope Nintendo takes a lesson away from Splatoon's success: that online multiplayer is not the devil they think it is. I'd also hope that being able to actually communicate won't instantly make them go bankrupt from lawsuits but.... baby steps, I guess. So, I'm hoping in the future they incorporate online components as well as their usual local multiplayer stuff in games like 3D World or Pikmin. They can't keep pretending the world isn't changing outside of their bubble, and they need to adapt. Quicker, preferably, while keeping what makes them unique.

Re: Talking Point: Splatoon Began With an Early Access Approach, and Has Provided a Valuable Lesson

TuVictus

I guess it ended up being a fine game, but the game launched with way too little for $60. And I'd rather pay and praise for what a game DOES have day one instead of what it might have in the future. but luckily I didn't pay $60, thanks amazon, and it ended up being some decent content. But next time, they should definitely launch with more in the base game. Free or not, having 4 maps at launch for a game focused on multiplayer isn't that great
