Nintendo has revealed that it will be bringing Animal Crossing: New Horizons to PAX East this weekend, with a "full-scale immersive experience" set to provide all sorts of fun for fans of the series.
Attendees will get to check out life-sized recreations inspired by the game’s island life, have multiple photo opportunities with costumed characters like K.K. Slider, Isabelle and Tom Nook, and even get their hands on a special Tom Nook themed tote bag while supplies last. Perhaps the most exciting news of all, though, is that fans will be able to take part in the game's first-ever hands-on event.
Yes, a playable demo will be available to check out ahead of the game's launch next month, and a guided showcase on Nintendo’s demo stage will also give visitors a tour of the game’s single-player mode.
Nintendo will be offering plenty more at PAX East, too. You'll also find playable demos of Pokémon Sword and Shield - where you'll be able to grab a special postcard booklet featuring images from Galar as a gift - as well as other games like Luigi's Mansion 3 and The Stretchers. You can also grab a photo with a costume Pikachu, which can't be a bad thing.
If you're wanting to play New Horizons at the event, attendees will be able to reserve a free Warp Pipe Pass to gain priority access starting from 25th February at 5pm ET. To do so, head here and sign in with your Nintendo Account. New Horizons merch will also be on offer at the event.

So, it will be like Tree House Event ?
is that their full line up? Outside of Animal Crossing that is a very underwhelming line up of games at Pax East
Nice! I’ll just get my Level B SCBA Hazmat suit and dive right in with all those people waiting to play.

I don't feel like trying AC at PAX would be very satisfying, the point of the game is to work your own island and personal experience and relationships. Having one hour or so to try a bit of it sounds like torture
@PBandSmelly I imagine the extent of your activity in the demo is foraging for crafting materials to make a flimsy axe like we’ve seen several times.
when the tagline said a "full-scale immersive experience", I almost thought that was related to Nintendo Labo VR or something then then haha
Animal Crossing is a weird game to demo, when most of its appeal is in settling in with it for long periods of time. Oh well, will be cool to see some more footage of the game.
Give us that demo on Switch please so we can taste the game at home.
Why always the line about how animal crossing doesn't demo well? I’ve been to at least 2 events where they had pre release AC demos (city folk, new leaf), and they encapsulated the idea of the game and both had lines around the block. If anything, games like animal crossing and luigis mansion need playable demos for those who don’t understand the concept. Feel like “AC doesn’t demo well” is just one of those things you say because that’s what the internet says.
Also, judging by my friend who played it last week for a press event, I believe it about the first hour or so of the game, much akin to the great plateau demo for botw
So, will a general Nintendo Direct occur during these days? I'm honestly not completely sure, but Nintendo usually comes to PAX East with a great quantity of upcoming titles, but here it seems it's more about the quality of the Animal Crossing demo. Really, not even Xenoblade will be playable!
If I had to choose a day for it, it would be... this wednesday.
But oh well... I'm really excited about this demo, I might not be able to play it, but I bet there could be some secrets there
@Kohaku no way! And lose out on first week sales cuz people already tasted it? They need you hungry for it. Only games they're scared will fail (DQ 11, arms, Splatoon, Yoshi's crafted world etc)
@kalosn I'm totally a broken record on this, but Nintendo is goin all out on animal crossing this year. If there is a bigger game coming in Q4, we'd know about it methinks. My money is on Bayonetta 3+a slightly lesser franchise like paper mario, donkey Kong, or something
Hi, I am intrigued by this game and have been reading all about AC. I have never played an AC game before but they seem fun!
However, hoping someone can help me out here...my only gaming time is in the later evenings, sounds like that means I will always be playing AC at night and will never get to experience daytime activity, unless I continuously mess with the game clock? Seems like a not conducive system to working people with families...
Any comment appreciated, thank you!
@erobinson not too clear on time manipulation this time, but you can set which hemisphere you're in if that helps. In the past, almost nothing happens at night, but I have a feeling that will be different in New Horizons. They are really pushing that there will be loads to do all the time, so maybe that's not an issue
@Crockin
Animal Crossing is indeed the big game of the year that Nintendo is currently commited, the other game is a definitive remake of Xenoblade Chronicles. Bayonetta 3 doesn't have a release date yet, but I hope it releases later this year. Counting third-party exclusives we have Bravely Default II, Rune Factory 5 and probably some other games I can't think about. We're also having The Wonderful 101 Remastered.
There are some other announced projects like BoTW 2, but they don't have a specific release date yet. I don't know what Nintendo is planning for the rest of the year, but knowing them, there could be some surprises. A Pikmin 3 remaster could fill the gap early this year, for example.
Me? I'm still waiting for them to announce a new Paper Mario...
