Re: A New Pokémon Game Has Just Launched On Smartphones

Hard pass. Playing through all previous versions makes you realize how stale the game is. Main series games advocate 4 moves in total, stats and items to mix up the gameplay and keep it interesting. I loved the realtime action gameplay of the Rumble games but they never stacked up in any other aspect. They lacked the ability to make each pokemon feel different.

Of course there will be some sort of compatability. It's too good to pass up the kind of cross-marketing both games will get out of doing so. And not to mention GameFreak are well aware that people have a range of pokemon from the main series as well as Pokemon Go that people will have bonded with. It makes sense to give people the chance to play with them in the newest pokemon game thats going to introduce a new region and upwards of 800+ total to the IP.

The thing that gets me is that while Arena of Valor (to compare) has an extremely limited moveset for each character (three abilities each + passive) the game is much more engaging and intuitive because of the equipment you buy that grants different buffs and passive effects. In short, there's far more going on in AoV in terms of strategy and long-term playability because no two matches can be the same. There's too much variety.

Now this game? I see many abilities on each hero, and several special moves by the looks of it. But already I can tell its incredibly hollow. The number of heroes is good, but there's no depth - no reason to keep coming back and continue playing beyond the multiplayer function. Its more of a party game then one based on skill etc. And thats a crying shame.

I was super interested in this game initially. But then I did my research and found the gameplay doesn't measure up. Shame considering this is what Xenoverse was based off... What makes it even worse is that this is coming at a time where Xenoverse 2 and FighterZ are already prevalent in the DB community. And then we have that new game on the horizon that we may just see at E3 this year. I can't see many people willingly picking this game up when they have much better to choose from. Cool concept though - if Yugioh didn't already claim that market.

Abhorrent behaviour. What part of not playing the game is "fun"? Its not about breaking the rules, its about the poor sportsmanship and the fact that some of you view this kind of play legitimate. If you come to a fighting tournament - you're expected to fight. If you show viewers anything but - of course people and players are going to get annoyed. Yes, its not breaking rules but go play tag outside with your friends if that's what you want to do.

I hope players like that just stop playing competitive games entirely. It's sad. I feel even more sorry for the Ice climber player for having to endure that rubbish.

Re: An Indie Dev Has Already Asked To Work With Nintendo's IP After Seeing Cadence Of Hyrule

I'm really hoping Nintendo takes this on board going forward and allow indies to at least try new takes with their IP. Just imagine that - indies churning out Mario, Kirby and Zelda games exclusive to Switch throughout the year. A new twist to Mother or F-Zero could bring about a revolutionary resurgence in their respective fanbases and Nintendo wouldn't even have to lift a finger.
