one more comment to make. I was devastated to read that the rumored "SNES classic remake" was going to be 2DHD Chrono Trigger (rather than a full 3D remake similar to Trials of Mana) - which would have been horrible. So to see that the rumor was false and that THIS was the SNES classic being remade - well, my soul practically leaped out of my body.
and I mean...just look at it. Yet another instance of a full proper 3D remake being the preferable option. I don't know if I'd care about this nearly as much if they had gone with 2DHD sprites/environments.
I just completely gave up on ever seeing the game properly acknowledged again. Knowing that it's being revisited was the exact jolt of excitement I needed
Don't know if this has increased the chances of a sequel or not, but I'm happy to see this regardless
Idk if I'd go that far. There was clearly lingering demand for a proper Mario movie. Not to discredit Illumination - I genuinely think they did an amazing job. I'm just saying, the Mario pot has been boiling for multiple decades - which led to the global success. And stepping outside of my Mario fan shoes, I can say it was a pretty run-of-the-mill (and heavily pandering) film. and certainly not something that's going to light the flame of a golden age of animation.
awesome. I have nothing bad to say about Illumination after the incredible job they did with the Mario movie. but I am firmly opposed to a Zelda movie coming from them.
Stoked about the color swaps. Bit bummed by the lack of new stages - mostly because I was very interested to see more of that.
Still holding out hope for a sequel or something - I didn't expect this game to turn out as well as it did. I'd even love to see a remake of Turtles in Time.
I absolutely want another game with the same set of characters and the same controls/mechanics as BOTW/TOTK. But I really don't want another sequel set in Hyrule. Now, if they wound up making some post-game DLC - something I definitely think would be a worthwhile addition, that's fine. But for the next game, the setting must change.
I REALLY want to say Star Fox Assault, but honestly, that one doesn't seem to have enough content depth to justify a remaster. Heard rumors about a SoulCalibur 2 remaster, so I won't say that one. And as much as I'd like to see Smash Bros Melee upgraded, I'm confident it will never happen.
honestly hard to say. Viewtiful Joe, maybe? Pac-Man World 2?
I'm not the biggest Metroid fan in the world, but I'm damn glad to see how well it has done recently. It's always so disappointing when Nintendo IPs make these big comebacks and then do poorly (like Star Fox - which has been placed firmly back on the shelf since the Wii U debacle).
I don't really care about the price. If the sequel is as high quality as BOTW was (and it certainly seems to be), then I say it's well worth the price.
That said...I'm also hoping that the sales might eventually wind up justifying ports of Ocarina of Time HD / Majora's Mask HD and Wind Waker HD / Twilight Princess HD. A bit worried that the Switch won't maintain momentum long enough for that to happen, though.
edit after the fact...good lord. Some people are talking about Nintendo like they are the North Korea of the gaming space. Which is it? Devs and companies deserve compensation, or gamers are entitled to the same prices until the end of time?
Something like this would have been incredible as an endgame bonus - something that was strangely lacking. I still like to go back and mess around in the stages, but that gets boring very quickly with no real goals to focus on. This alone would have made random exploration pretty enjoyable.
and although it's completely pointless to talk about...I desperately hoped that a Super Mario 64 remake could have come in the form of DLC for Odyssey. If you really think about it, 64 is quite minuscule in terms of overall size, and it would be hard to justify paying full price to get such a meager experience in the Switch era. BUT, as DLC for Odyssey? It really would have been perfect.
10,000% don't want an HD2D version of Chrono Trigger. I've wanted to see a full 3D remake since the days of the Chrono Resurrection project. And later on, the Trials of Mana remake defied my expectations and gave me a taste of what an old school JRPG could actually look like when properly remade (which is to say, incredible). HD2D would be a massive disappointment compared to what can be done with a 3D remake.
Downloaded this for my nephew thinking he might prefer it over the console MK games. And then I wound up getting addicted to it. I love the avalanche of content.
(it is so bizarre that yellow Yoshi and gold Mario aren't available as racers)
Reluctantly excited. I actually never played the first title - I only tried the sequel. I'll likely grab this one in the hopes that the second is also remade, but I can't say my hopes are all that high for that.
Smash Bros 64. When Metroid Prime came out, I finally checked the series out, but never completed Prime. I kept up with Fusion when it was revealed and released, but that one also fell by the wayside.
Sometime in 2012 (I think), I finally checked out Super Metroid and was amazed at how well made it was. It was amazing - despite how slow it felt.
A few years later, I checked out AM2R and was blown away by it.
have every intention of checking out Dread and Prime. Just waiting for the Switch remaster.
Sonic could be cool. But honestly, seeing Super Shredder do that Sigma-style dash attack made me realize how badly I want to see a Mega Man X beat-em-up game.
(also wouldn't mind a modern Marvel beat-em-up game with sprite based graphics)
Even today, I have nothing bad to say about this game.
Buuuuut....I will say this. After seeing how well Shredder's Revenge turned out, I can't help but wish for a sequel or a spiritual successor to Tournament Fighters.
Don't know if I'd say it's the game of the year. But I will say it's MY game of the year. I wasn't prepared for how good this turned out to be. It was the spiritual successor I never knew I wanted.
I'm pretty sure sequels won't happen, but I would gladly hop on them if they were ever made. And there's so much material to work with. They could use either the comics, the 2003 series, or maybe even the live action movies as source material.
not the best. I say that title goes to Galaxy 1 - with Odyssey being a close second. But Sunshine would be third and I have a high opinion of it despite how much people disliked it.
I'm honestly surprised by how good Shredder's Revenge turned out. It didn't seem all that thrilling the first time I saw it, but now, I genuinely think it's a contender for one of the greatest side-scrolling beat-em-ups ever made.
Also takes me back to a time where incredible licensed games were in frequent rotation.
I need an honest opinion. Was Mother 3 as mind blowing as Earthbound? Earthbound made a major impression on me despite being a tad difficult to trudge through (I'm not a fan of turn-based gameplay in RPGs). I've always wanted to check 3 out in the hopes that it's just as good as Earthbound, but something tells me it isn't. Earthbound was a 10 out of 10, yet Mother 3 strikes me as an 8 out of 10 based on what little I've seen of it.
@JakedaArbok So nothing for something like one-on-one battles? Maybe the Battle Tower from Ruby/Sapphire would be a better frame of reference. Nothing like that in Sword/Shield?
Geez. Already on to the next iteration. That's kind of uncommon these days.
I don't actually play Pokemon anymore, but I'm curious - did Sword and Shield have some sort of stadium area for battles? Something reminiscent of the old Pokemon Stadium games.
All the games mentioned? I can absolutely get behind HD2D remakes of those titles. But Chrono Trigger? Not a chance. Square Enix hit a home run with their remake of Trials of Mana. Getting the chance to relive Chrono Trigger through a full scale remake similar to Trials of Mana would be the ideal experience.
I mean, it still looks a lot better than the PS1 release. ... I'm ecstatic to see this. I've never actually gone through Chrono Cross. Always meant to, but never got around to it. So getting a chance to go through an enhanced version has me very happy.
Also...regarding Radical Dreamers...it will not be for everyone. It's not so much a "game" as it is an interactive visual novel. But I strongly insist that it's worth experiencing at least once. It's really well-made.
I want to see a new 3D (open world?) Donkey Kong the most. But any of the following...
3D Mario, the return of the "New Super Mario" series, Mario Kart 9, Metroid Prime Remake, Metroid Prime Trilogy HD, Metroid Prime 4, LOZ Port Collection (Wind Waker/Twilight Princess would be cool, but I'd rather see OOT HD/MM HD)
Based on what very little I know about all of this, this almost seems to push the Xbox brand onto a similar scale as Nintendo - or at least, much closer to it.
Never saw this list, but boy am I pleased to see that Mischief Makers has a fairly good spot on this list. I was always under the impression that it had become one of those obscure cult classics rather than one of the more memorable N64 games.
I'll say this first. If Nintendo ever gets around to releasing HD ports of Ocarina of Time 3D and Majora's Mask 3D (hopefully on one cart?), I'm all over both of them.
As for the decompilation...I am beyond excited to read this news. I haven't gone back to any iteration of Mario 64 since the PC port came out, and I also have more appreciation for it as a whole. Getting a chance to have an improved version of a game I already had a deep appreciation for is going to be a big deal for me. OOT with tighter controls, camera controls, maybe new animations...I really can't wait.
Way into this if it turns out to be true. I've never gotten into Prime, but I bought the trilogy that was put out for Wii...and then never touched it and sold it later. So a chance to actually get into the series on the Switch sounds great. (Just hope the other games will also be updated.)
It's just awful. It LOOKS amazing (by 2006 standards), but that's at a glance. Once you keep looking, you see how bad it really is. Ancient and rudimentary animations and hit or miss character models. I can KIND OF appreciate the attempt to stick with the cartoony aesthetic, but it clashes with the (honestly impressive) environments.
I can overlook the outdated audio because I'm sure it was impossible to recover the original audio recordings. But everything else is hard to ignore. And I mean...I WANT to be positive about this. It's definitely better than trying to deal with the old games. But even GTA IV looks better than these "definitive" updates.
I won't say the levels in Odyssey are bad because they aren't, but I really do dislike how they all differ in size (and as far as I'm concerned, quality). Some levels feel fully fleshed out and whole, while others just feel like small samples of something that could have been larger (and greater). Example...the Cap Kingdom is referred to as a "kingdom", but it feels more like a rest stop. It's a "kingdom" in name only. And maybe there's more to the kingdom, but you don't see that in the game. Even the Metro Kingdom feels pretty small once you get used to it.
That out of the way...I seriously love the "world" in the Bowser's Fury DLC. To be honest, I feel like a truly open-world Mario game could turn out very poorly. But to me, the world space in Bowser's Fury really feels like what a proper "world" should be. An expansive area with plenty to do and see. It might not be "open-world", but as far as I'm concerned, it scratches that itch, and multiple levels on a similar scale could easily qualify as something that feels "open-world".
(and all of THAT out of the way...I hope they aren't done with the New Super Mario Bros series, and I really hope that they wind up working on a New Super Mario All-Stars game in the future. i.e., a remake of the SNES collection.)
His goodbye message at the end hit me in a way I wasn't anticipating.
I've been a fan since the first game. Put in countless hours in 64, Melee, and Brawl. Watched as fighter reveals became a thing during the development of Brawl. Eagerly anticipated the arrival of the first Smash 4 DLC. And then I got to see new fighter reveals for Smash Ultimate enhanced even further with the addition of presentations featuring Sakurai himself.
...And now it's done, and I can't help but be depressed by that. It's only a game, but it was also a big part of my life. And the series itself may not be 100% over with and could wind up in the hands of a new team. But it really does feel like this is a definitive ending and it's affecting me in a way I didn't anticipate.
idk. I'm always going to be a fan. Can't think of any other way to sum up my thoughts.
Even if they're still stuck on the 3DS, I have to go with Ocarina of Time 3D and Majora's Mask 3D just based on how drastic the difference is between the remakes and the originals.
Figma figures are amazing. I'm still really hoping GSC eventually makes Figma figures of Link and Zelda from BOTW. (and maybe OoT Link and Ganondorf from Twilight Princess)
I love that the Mana series is going through a resurgence, and I especially love having so many of the games on the Switch. I really hope they go back and release the Secret of Mana remake for the Switch as well.
I wanted to see the new model that was hinted at for the sake of seeing it. But actually getting a chance to buy it...eh. I'm in no rush for that. And I think the current Switch is perfectly fine as it is.
All I can say is I really hope that Ocarina of Time 3D, Majora's Mask 3D, Wind Waker HD, and Twilight Princess HD will be added to the Switch eventually. I love the idea of getting all the major Zelda games on one system. Whether that be in one big collection with all four games (impossible) or two separate releases each with two games (probably possible), I just hope it happens.

I love that the Mana series is going through a resurgence, and I especially love having so many of the games on the Switch. I really hope they go back and release the Secret of Mana remake for the Switch as well.
Re: Doug Bowser Responds To Reports About "Upgraded Switch Replacement" (Again)
I wanted to see the new model that was hinted at for the sake of seeing it. But actually getting a chance to buy it...eh. I'm in no rush for that. And I think the current Switch is perfectly fine as it is.
Re: Nintendo Doesn't Have Anything Else Planned For Zelda's 35th Right Now
@3RedTriangles You speak as if Nintendo is incapable of changing their plans in response to leaks.
Re: Nintendo Doesn't Have Anything Else Planned For Zelda's 35th
All I can say is I really hope that Ocarina of Time 3D, Majora's Mask 3D, Wind Waker HD, and Twilight Princess HD will be added to the Switch eventually. I love the idea of getting all the major Zelda games on one system. Whether that be in one big collection with all four games (impossible) or two separate releases each with two games (probably possible), I just hope it happens.
