Nice! I was actually debating buying the Japanese version to get that cover, but decided not to when it was 10 bucks more. Can't wait for my copy to arrive!
Tempted to vote for JP just for the amazing "life of power" text thats front and center, but the whole presentation is too messy. The abstract colors and shapes dont fit as well as Sonic 2 and 3's box. My vote goes to Europe.
Even tho I was born during the N64's reign of terror, Super Mario Kart was the first one I played. The SNES was my childhood console before I was old enough for the N64 and PS2.
I voted for Okami though because I think it has more room to grow. I think VJ kind of took its idea and ran with it pretty far over 2 games, but I'd still love to see a third!
Sucks this happened to him, but considering the several stories of Naka being involved in delevopment disasters, and being on the vein side, I'm gonna assume this game wasn't gonna be sunshine and rainbows either way. Nothing against Naka, I would've loved to see his true vision, and Square Enix is definitely on my ***** list, but I don't think either party is truly innocent in why this game turned out how it did.
I really wanted to vote for JP because Kirby is actually pink on that one, but I couldn't. The background is way more interesting in the EU version. I like how the logo pops and sits infront of the tree leaves for contrast.
Gotta go with Japan. Not crazy on the out of focus Mario, but the clean grass with that Mario Golf logo gives it a really classy feel. Plus the nonsense english statement just puts it over the top. Haven't seen many boxes like it, so for that alone its my pick.
Looks like it plays real well, but just a tad bland. I'm a fan of all these retro racers, and I have a bunch of them so unfortunately perfectly servicable games like this have to compete against Hotshot Racing and Horizon Chase Turbo for my time.
I think the blue sky and gameplay background in the NA box are much better than the yellow border and random shot of a goomba just sitting there right below Mario.
I love Double Dash more than any other Mario Kart, but with how smooth Mario Kart 8 Deluxe plays, and with how much content is has, it's definitely the best Mario Kart at the moment.
Comparing this to Hotshot and Horizon Chase is a bit of a stretch. I still play both of those games a bunch btw. Great for a quick race or two when I'm in the mood.
Man, Advance Wars just cannot avoid this problem! Releases a day before 9/11 in the states originally, and its remake now the same time as the biggest invasion in Europe since WW2.
Probably for the best both times tho. A cute little war game with tanks rolling into town doesn't look too playful when it's surrounded by the real life version of it at the moment.
I'd have no problem with this if Nintendo had all their music up on their own Youtube channel. It's the same problem with them taking down ROMs of lesser known games. Nintendo does nothing with them, but they don't want the fans doing anything either, so I guess were just supposed to forget about them.
I see this happening with a few Wii games, mainly this and Skyward Sword. People forget these games were pretty dissapointing in respect to their series. Obviously the hate has been over blown, but Other M is still no higher than a 7 in my eyes.
@thenewguy Never said it was, just saying if you wanna make that comparison, then its fair to point out why the music industry is at this point while games are not. I agree, it shouldnt take 50+ years and hundreds of lawsuits before something as simple as writing down everyone's name becomes an industry standard. Hopefully an outside source can help, maybe thru pressure from the console manufacturers, like what Somy did with Cyberpunk getting pulled.
@MrBelmont Yeah its for sure on my list! I love how unique it looks compared to other jrpgs. Just wanna make sure I'm in the right mood before I start it. Gotta be feeling it, otherwise I'll never finish an rpg haha
@thenewguy Yeah but it took the music business decades to adopt this practice. Look at how many older songs have trouble with writing credits and royalties. Video games are realitvely new compared to other mediums, so unfortunately people have to keep fighting for stuff like this until it sets a precedent.
Hopefully this grows into something. I was meaning to check out Panzer Dragoon Saga a while ago, but wasn't in the mood to troubleshoot a finicky emulator at the time.
Very tough one this time. I love both of them! Ultimately I went for JP because I like the clean box design better than the SNES black bars. Makes it look too cluttered. If not for that, I would've gone with NA. That action shot is awesome!
I'd be so down for a new Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio (especially a JSR game with modern controls). But please for the love of Sonic make an HD port of Skies of Arcadia! That's all I really want
I bought Mario Kart 8 at launch for the Wii U, and all the dlc when they came out. Love the game, wouldn't be apposed to new dlc, but I've been dying for a Mario Kart 9 for so long. Really bummed when it seemed like theyre just gonnq stick with 8 on the Switch, but it makes sense.
I'm in love with Okami. I have the art book, a figure, and have drawn Ammy and Issun twice. It's not a perfect game, but there's so many unique parts of it that set it apart. My favorite part of the game is the lead up to Oni Island, and the fight with Ninetails. So cool to play that for the first time!
I also just bought Shinshu in Bloom on Bandcamp. Its a fan remix album of Okami music done in a Nujabes style. If anyone is interested I highly recommend it, its on Youtube.
This list came out pretty good. Glad to see Metroid so high, though I personally would've had Mega Man Zero 3 a lot higher, and Advance Wars and Fire Emblem in the top 10. Just goes to show how many great games this little thing has.
I love these rankings. Even if they're not the most scientific, its just fun to run thru a games library rating all the games I own.
My personal Top 10, off the top of my head (ignoring ports like ALttP and Mario Advance) (haven't played some enough to rank it, like Castlevania and Golden Sun) 1. Advance Wars 2. Fire Emblem 3. Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones 4. Metroid Fusion 5. Metroid Zero Mission 6. Mega Man Zero 3 7. Mega Man Zero 2 9. Pokemon: Fire Red 10. Pokemon: Sapphire 10. Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2
Not crazy on BotW getting so many top spots. Recency bias maybe? The game is amazing, but the lack of dungeons/monotony of shrines really knocks it down a peg for me. The world exploration is unrivaled, but its lacking that meaty center. I'd still put ALttP over it in a heartbeat. Either way, here is my list, of all the games I've played:
A Link to the Past Ocarina of Time Majora's Mask Breath of the Wild Wind Waker Twilight Princess A Link Between Worlds Link's Awakening Skyward Sword Zelda 1 Phantom Hourglass
The US box is positively rancid, but it's so goofy and funny that it has my vote. I can find you numerous box arts that look like the JP one, but I don't think there are any box arts like the US one. A one of a kind disaster.
Whew, this was a tough one. I love both covers, but I gotta give it to NA/JP for just looking cleaner. The EU cover comes across a bit more awkward with Link's pose and the foreground birds.
Plus, the logo being on the rock in the NA/JP one makes it look out of the way, and lets the scenery shine more, while the EU one looks more traditional. Probably because your eye isn't drawn to the background as much.
Virtua Racing got me the most excited. Though I still don't understand why Sega Ages ended. I was really hoping they would continue and release Sega Rally 1 and 2, along with Daytona USA.
I guess they wouldn't be Sega if I wasn't constantly bewildered by their decision making.

Re: Random: Wait, Is Ocarina Of Time 3D Old Now?
Personally I'd love if the Oracle games were next up for a modern re-release/remake
Re: Talking Point: What Will The 'Switch 2' Actually Be Called?
It should be the Nintendo Switcher U so that it sounds like Switcheroo
Re: Metroid Prime Remastered Physical Switch Release Has Reversible Cover Art
Nice! I was actually debating buying the Japanese version to get that cover, but decided not to when it was 10 bucks more. Can't wait for my copy to arrive!
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Viewtiful Joe
North America all the way. The blue background makes everything pop. The blue sky is what I think of when I think Viewtiful Joe
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel - Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes
Any cover with Yoji Shinkawa's artwork will always win out in the end.

Re: Random: Nintendo Shareholder Apparently Asked For A New F-Zero At General Meeting
Just port the damn games in an HD upscaled rom dump package for 30 bucks and gauge interest off that. I'm prepared to buy as many copies as it takes
Re: Random: F1 Star Lewis Hamilton Couldn't Find Mario Kart, So He Bought Super Monaco GP II Instead
@blackknight77 Yeah the sound takes a massive hit from the original. Sounds like a pack of angry bees lol. Game's still great though
Re: Video: A Castlevania Game... With Pigs?
Castlevania already has pigs, theyre just cooked and hidden in the walls
Re: Video: Just What Is The Best Super Mario Game Of All Time?
Super Mario World, 64, or Galaxy are my answers. Ask me on any given day and I'll say one or the other
Re: Poll: Which Dormant Capcom Franchise Would You Like To See Return?
Okami and Viewtiful Joe for me!

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel #96 - Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards
The blue is a nice contrast that makes Kirby pop more, but the JP one is much more centered and symmetrical that it takes the cake for me
Re: Sonic's New Voice Actor For Sonic Prime Has Been Revealed
I feel him on gravitating towards Tails as a kid. He does a solid job voicing Sonic, can't wait to hear more!
Re: Random: The F-Zero X Announcer's Voice Was Inspired By Ridge Racer
"Yearh!! You're way out in front!!"
Love this game and love his silly voice lines. For my money this was F-Zero at its peak

Re: Poll: Which Wii Sport Is The Best Wii Sport In Wii Sports (And Which Is The Worst)?
Damn, no love for boxing? It was kinda random at times but it felt fun as hell with the Wiimotes. Bowling, Boxing and Golf are the standouts for me.
Tennis is the weakest in my eyes, with the motion controls basically boiling down to timing a button press. I would've liked to see more shot variety.
Re: Back Page: Which Is The Best Controller Button, And What Does Your Pick Say About You?
Next up: which Nintendo AC Adapter was your favorite!
All jokes aside, I chose the Y button. Its in the comfiest spot, which makes it my preferred main button for all sorts of games

Super jealous of that cabinet! I want what this man has, without putting in any of the work.
