I've been using the same carrying case for my Switch that was included in the Breath of the Wild Special Edition since launch. I really need to upgrade at some point lol
This is easily going to be the best Smash game, and the amount of content is ridiculous (I almost feel like $60 is too cheap). The Spirits and World of Light modes look amazing, but the Direct did get a bit too detailed at times; not going to lie, I actually started laughing when Sakurai spent time going over the Brightness settings in the Options.
Spirits looks interesting and like it could add some more depth and even some RPG elements to the game. I can see players sinking tons of hours in this mode. And World of Light, well that has turned the whole thing up a notch. I hope it has more cutscenes like this and the character reveals as they're great.
I honestly could not care less about trophies so I'm completely fine with them being removed if it allows for new characters and modes such as these.
Bought it during lunch today and can't express how awesome it is to have Dark Souls on a handheld, definitely worth it for the tradeoff of 30fps instead of 60. I already bought the PC version of Remastered earlier this year but still had to have the Switch version (also, the PC version is so rampant with cheaters and hackers and no punishments for them that I gave up).
Costs $700 more than the Switch and can only play the same games you can already play on your smartphone. Nintendo better be shaking in its boots! Doomed!
It depends on how long you have to resubscribe (Sony gives you a very reasonable six month period) to still access your Cloud saves. If they are deleted the instant your subscription lapses (which is easy to forget and overlook), that is pretty bad.
@Sharks I apologize then and please be careful and take it seriously. I lived in New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina hit and only just recently moved back. Thirteen years ago, and this city is still rebuilding and recovering from it. They are nothing to brush off.
@Medic_alert Oh, okay. The "will launch on..." wording in the Tweet made me think it would be a simultaneous Day One release. Still a good get for the Switch either way.
The Switch had the greatest launch year of any console ever. Of course it's a nearly impossible act to follow. 2019 is shaping up to be huge though. Mainline Pokemon and Fire Emblem confirmed with Bayonetta 3, Metroid Prime 4, and Animal Crossing as possibilities. That right there would rival 2017. 2018 hasn't been too bad for me though. Maybe because I also have a good gaming PC and PS4 and I didn't have a Wii U so Bayonetta 2, Tropical Freeze, and Captain Toad are brand new (and fantastic) for me. And Octopath is worth the wait.
You never know. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, BOTW, and Super Mario Odyssey all made the top 10 list last year despite being exclusives and despite the Switch having a much smaller install base than the PS4 or Xbox. All three have sold over 10 million units each already, yes? That's huge. If Smash doesn't make the list, it will only be because of the December release date (had it released in September along with the Switch Online, I think it would have easily cracked the list). And if the sales of Eevee and Pikachu are combined as one title, it will probably make it.
Even if they don't, no big deal. Of the 10 predicted, 8 are multiplatform and 2 are exclusives to a console with a 70 million+ install base compared to the Switch's ~20 million. Switch titles shouldn't realistically be expected to compete in terms of sales numbers yet, although incredibly the three I mentioned from last year did just that.
I think Labo is a good idea (if I had kids, I would certainly buy the Variety pack for them), but I can't see the "non-gamer" and "casual" demographics running out and buying a Switch just for this one thing the way that they did for the motion games/sports on the Wii. And unfortunately it seems like Nintendo was hoping Labo would become that same sort of cultural phenomenon.
As much as I love Splatoon 2, I am terrible at the PvP matches and generally only play it these days for Salmon Run. Looks like I may jump back in for this expansion as I did enjoy the Campaign and wanted more. Glad to hear it's really good!
It's not a port as much as it is a Smash Bros. Compilation/Greatest Hits package which is a great idea for a game like this. This is looking like it will be the perfect Smash game, being improved only by hopefully some sort of Single player/Story mode and future new DLC characters and stages. Give me all that, and I'll never need another Smash again.
Expectations aside, it's pretty disappointing. The first-party lineup for Switch for the entire year is Kirby, Mario Tennis, Mario Party, Pokemon Lets Go, and Smash. Not a single new first party title announced other than Mario Party and no big third party ports (like a Fallout or GTA). That's not the most exciting lineup, to put it nicely. Hell, the most exciting moment for me is Hollow Knight finally being released. I'll put it this way, if I didn't also own a PC and PS4, I would not be happy right now.
Nintendo's estimate of 20 million Switches sold during the fiscal year is now looking completely realistic. So far Smash, Pokemon, and Fire Emblem confirmed for this year, with Gen 8 Pokemon next year. Those are easily enough to do it, but throw in a 2D Mario or Animal Crossing announcement at E3 as well, and it will soar right over that number.
Awesome, definitely getting this. I tried World in January and just couldn't get into it, it didn't feel the same to me. Maybe it was the lack of portability, which I need for games that require grinding. I put over 100 hours into each of the 3DS MH games. World, on the other hand, I put maybe 5 or 10 hours into it, dropped it to focus on Celeste, and haven't been back since.
I'm trying to decide between physical or digital for Tropical Freeze. I save 20% if I buy a physical copy, but it also seems like the type of game I would want installed on my system at all times. Decisions, decisions.
@KirbyTheVampire Again, cute with the "The Nintendo crowd only likes this game because they haven't played other open world games!" comments. I've played The Witcher 3 and AC and Skyrim and all the "greats", and from a gameplay perspective, BOTW s***s all over them.
@KirbyTheVampire Then don't smugly and arrogantly try to pass off your minority opinion as authoritative and imply that anyone who likes a universally acclaimed masterpiece is wrong and an idiot and hasn't played other open world games simply because YOU didn't get it. That may help, honey.
@SomeWriter13 I've been playing the Monster Hunter World beta on PS4 the last couple of days. It looks good and controls nicely, but something just feels off, I can't put my finger on it. Maybe I've become so accustomed to doing portable hunts? I don't know.
@gatorboi352 I think they equal in terms of quality but BOTW gets the slight advantage due to its ambition and the je ne sais quoi it possesses. They are still easily the two best in a year of so many great titles.
I still think it's a shame that NieR: Automata and Divinity Original Sin 2 were not nominated for Game of the Year, as those would be my third and fourth place picks respectively.
I get the love for Persona 5, but I thought the last third of the game was a true slog, the plot became very overreaching, some of the characters were throwaways, and the social commentary was rather heavy-handed and annoyingly obvious at times. Those things hurt it for me.
Horizon I'm still working on, but it seems to be a "jack of all trades, master of none" game. It's very good and impeccably crafted and ticks a lot of boxes but doesn't have that magic I look for in a game, although Aloy is certainly a great character I want to see more of.
Also glad that What Remains of Edith Finch won Best Narrative. I played it earlier this year and it nearly brought me to tears, it's that powerful. It's a shame it's been so overlooked this year; maybe now it will get the attention it deserves.
This and Mario Odyssey are two of the greatest games ever made. Although I slightly enjoyed Odyssey more (but only by a hair), I voted for BOTW because it is groundbreaking and took a huge risk that enormously paid off. It is already changing and influencing the industry and is the new golden standard going forward. For that, it definitely deserved to win.
I certainly hope so. I'm typically not one to buy DLC, but I happily bought it for BOTW and will do so for Odyssey. I just love those games THAT much and can't get enough. An Odyssey DLC pack with a new kingdom or two and some new platforming challenges in existing kingdoms would easily be worth $20 for me.
If this game wasn't passable and irrelevant before (most people that played it have said it's fun but generic and nothing special), it certainly is post-Odyssey. This could still sell well though since people love their Switch so much that they are buying anything and everything for it (I'm guilty of this as well).
This game is my new "so bad it's good" guilty pleasure. It's so messy and ridiculous and often pointless yet I can't stop playing it. It has given me a lot of unintentional laughs so far, that's for sure.
Eh, it's difficult to really say one over the other, especially when you compare a novel and a film (such as, say, James Joyce's Ulysses vs. Andrei Tarkovsky's Stalker) that could only be done and work in their respective mediums.
LOL at the delusional Wii U owners who feel the need to hate on the Switch in every single article related to it. Your precious Wii U is dead and has been for quite some time. Move on and quit being so pathetic.
I have a PS4 and PC and will not be getting this game as I have become so used to having my Monster Hunter portable. Surely there is a Switch Monster Hunter in the works unless Capcom has lost its mind (very likely these days).
@Yorumi I don't know. The ridiculous amounts of fan service have turned me off enough to cancel my preorder. If there's a consensus in reviews when it releases that the story and characters are excellent and well-written in spite of that, then I'll reconsider purchasing it.
I've put about 9 hours into Odyssey so far and have to say that it may be a genuine GOAT contender. It's that good. It has also dethroned BOTW as my personal GOTY, which I thought would be borderline impossible. All I know is Nintendo has released two of the greatest games ever made within the same year, and I could not be happier about that.
Not a big deal for me. I already own a PS4 and a PC and play the big AAA multiplatform games on those, although the portability of the Switch is making me consider double-dipping on games I already own for my other platforms (Doom especially).
I think it would be better to see more exclusive third party titles (like what Ubisoft did with the excellent Mario + Rabbids or all the JRPG love the 3DS had) as opposed to just ports. If not, oh well, the system is worth it for me just for Nintendo's unbeatable first party titles.
I am so over this silly thing, and having to line up for hours and hours for the slight chance of even seeing one is ridiculous (some of us have jobs and lives you know).
There is a Best Buy next to my work. I will walk in there next Friday during my lunch to see if they have any. If they don't (they won't), oh well. I want to believe Nintendo when they say that these will be much easier to obtain than the NES Classic; if they're lying yet again, then there are much cheaper and more convenient ways to play these games.

Definitely getting this and Thimbleweed Park from the eshop tomorrow. Hopefully I can finish Samus Returns (five more metroid left) tonight. I've purchased so many games this year and am FINALLY caught up on all of them so I'm trying not to get overwhelmed again.
