I'm going to keep my expectations in check and suspect that the Virtual Console (if there actually is one) and 2018 and later game reveals will be announced in Directs after the holidays (Odyssey is their big holiday seller after all and they need to focus on it).
I would be happy with release dates for Skyrim, Rocket League, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Stardew Valley, DLC for BOTW and Mario Rabbids, some apps, and some more Yoshi and Kirby details. Maybe even information on Project Octopath, Dragon Quest XI, the new Shin Megami Tensei, and the new Fire Emblem that is coming in 2018?
It would be amazing if they announced Animal Crossing and whatever mysterious projects Platinum and Retro are working on. Those are probably E3 2018 reveals though.
Super Mario Odyssey must be BOTW sized if they still have more gameplay to show without spoiling it. I mean they have already shown at least two hours of footage since E3, and as much I as tried, I could not resist watching all of it.
I'm thinking we will get some release dates for Xenoblade, Skyrim, and possibly Stardew Valley and Rocket League, more Kirby and Yoshi footage, a couple more Wii U ports (especially Bayonetta 2 and Smash Bros.), more details on the upcoming online service, Virtual Console plans, and maybe one big surprise reveal like an Animal Crossing or the Fire Emblem scheduled to come out in 2018. I think most big announcements will come after the holidays, but I would not be surprised if Nintendo snuck one into this Direct to keep people excited. We will see.
I love my Switch, and it is has quickly become my favorite Nintendo console since the N64, if not the SNES and has also changed the way I play video games. I never thought I would be able to play a game as sprawling and complex as BOTW or Mario Odyssey on the go and am still amazed by that. The first-party lineup is killer, and it seems that a lot of third-party developers are starting to get on board. The only glaring issue for me is the lack of a Virtual Console (especially in light of the NES/SNES Classics debacles), and once that is inevitably added, my Switch will never leave my hands.
Disagree. Certain aspects of Sunshine may not have aged that well, but it's difficult to make the case that it is an objectively bad game and not worth anyone's time. The camera can be a bit troublesome, but the controls, level design, and art design are fantastic. I would most definitely consider it a classic and put it up there with 64 and the Galaxy games.
Wow, so instead of thanking your customers that spent their hard-earned money on your game, you tell them, "Yeah, you bought it, but you have to play this game HOW and WHEN we tell you to. Get over it!"
I only play Salmon Run, and if it isn't available, I don't play Splatoon 2 at all, so their limited-availability reasoning (that it will force people to play other modes and reduce matchmaking time) is clearly not working on me.
I would love release dates for Stardew Valley, Thimbleweed Park, and Rocket League and some surprise announcements like, say, Undertale or Darkest Dungeon.
85 on Metacritic. Super impressive considering how polarizing the Rabbids are and the fact that the tactical RPG genre is still considered a niche one. I cannot wait to play this. Hope it sells well and encourages further third-party support.
Flipping Death looks really interesting, and it seems like the characters you come across have some odd and fascinating backstories paired with that beautiful artstyle and flip mechanic. I'm feeling it.
@AtlanteanMan Exactly. I find it appalling that people are trying to defend Nintendo yet again. Constantly having shortages on every single one of their products (at this point, I'm starting to believe the narrative that it's intentional) and snubbing their fans like this and causing them to always get their hopes up is unacceptable. Nintendo deserves every bit of the outrage and anger it is receiving at the moment.
I've always been opposed to emulating (non public domain) games due to the legal and ethical grey areas. However, if Nintendo wants to keep f***ing over their customers and fans like this, I don't blame anyone for seeking an alternative route. I'm seriously considering doing the Raspberry Pi thing if I can't find a SNES Classic or the Switch Virtual Console isn't launched in the near future. If you don't want our money, then fine, you will not get it, Nintendo.
@BeardedSquash Same here. This entire process has been so terrible and absurd that I don't even want one anymore. It should not be this exhausting and stressful as a consumer to purchase a product you want. Oh, wait, it's Nintendo we are talking about. **** it. I like the Raspberry Pi idea and will be looking into it.
I was one of the unlucky ones who had the Walmart preorder that got canceled weeks ago. Didn't even get a notification that preorders were live, but oh well, as I expected only scalpers and people willing to pay them over $200 will get one. Just give us all these games on the Switch Virtual Console. I'd rather have them on the go anyway.
I'm pretty happy with the lineup this year (BOTW, MK8D, Arms, Splatoon 2, Mario Rabbids, Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Fire Emblem Warriors), I'm just concerned about next year. Have they confirmed any releases for 2018 other than Yoshi and Kirby? I highly doubt Metroid or Pokémon will be out before 2019 or even 2020. Let's hope they have a Direct toward the end of the year with some surprise announcements like a core Fire Emblem or Smash or Animal Crossing.

Re: Retail Version of DOOM on Switch Will Need a Download for Online Multiplayer
Do not worry y'all, Doom's multiplayer is pretty bland and generic anyway. It's all about the insane single player campaign.

@Ralek85 I would kill for Darkest Dungeon to come to the Switch. I adore that game.
