Re: More Super Mario, Mario Kart And Animal Crossing LEGO Sets Are On The Way

Slideaway1983

@Bigmanfan as I've fell into the trappings of lego mario mini figs, kart and the 18+ set, I'm leaning towards circa £90 for the browsers castle (I don't know what you know, but always take number of pieces x 10p for an approximate figure, and round down as a guess).

Sadly, this is gonna be another burn to my pocket down the line, but I'm still holding out for the 18+ MK one, so I'll co sider the smaller as a Xmas present to myself when my savings for the year unlock.

Also means I now need to make more space. Grrrr.

Re: Limited Run's Atlus Switch 2 Collector's Edition Is A 'Game-Key Card' Release

Slideaway1983

@Jester676 after seeing this news on reddit yesterday afternoon, I wrnt into my LRG and cancelled about 5 pre orders - 3 of which were the multi covers of gradius, keeping the collectors (origins) edition. Whilst not fully voting with my wallet, losing about $300 in sales is a start, and I'm going to be more scrupulous now in how many "variants" and what i actually buy.

There more they screw about with things like this (especially with the cost of the edition in this article), the more they'll figure they can get away with it, and it's not like they're known for being customer friendly to begin with. So the best way to counter that to me is be less business friendly. I had maybe 1k of pre orders for my collection, and already trimmed 1/3rd of that with decisions to be made on more.

Again, if anyone buys from these from now on, I'd just consider what you "need" as opposed to what you "want" for your collection.

Re: Opinion: Steam Deck Fans Are Seriously Underestimating The Switch 2

Slideaway1983

@larryisaman good point, well made.

Because I'm "in the know" doesn't mean everyone is, of course. And no they don't advertise in a standard way - basically on their own storefront and that's it as far as I know.

Amd you are also right in the numbers compared to sales - it's not a bad amount, let alone ones like mine that ended up second hand. I can't pull a comparison, as I'm the only person I know up until last year that had one, and still only know one other; I highly doubt 50% are second hand sold 🤣🤣🤣

All I can say again, is that it's a good piece of kit, especially when it comes to sales, as you'd expect. But the ally is better. That's my own personal conclusion... though the batteries on both are still rubbish as well, so on the go I play indies / emu and docked I play the bigger stuff / use windows. Again, my own use case and adds value.

Re: Opinion: Steam Deck Fans Are Seriously Underestimating The Switch 2

Slideaway1983

@Fighter_Hayabusa class me as one of those overlapping fans.

But after having a steam deck around launch (UK) and a ROG ally (whatever the "better" version was from the 2 at launch), I ended up selling my steam deck last year as the ally also doubled up as a damn good windows PC (admittedly had to buy a mouse, keyboard and dock).

The fact that (without tinkering - always been windows, so linux was confusing, and with cheapo accessories) i had a gaming PC that was easier to use out and about and take to people's houses than say a laptop at very least.

And that was for what... £800. Which isn't shabby at all, and still twice the price of a switch 2.

Am I disillusioned that the ally is "twice as good" as S2? Nope, but it does 2 jobs for me, so the tradeoff is worth it in my eyes.

Same as if people know / understand Linux, steam deck is a viable option as a portable / desktop if you buy the accessories.

There's certainly an overlap, but with 4m deck sales, it shows that the mainstream are not on board with this type of price point just for beefed up graphics compared to a dedicated handheld. You need more reason, I'd argue; to buy any other handheld over a switch series (1 or 2) than just "cheaper games", which is exactly why I have the ROG, as outlined above.

Re: Switch 2 Pre-Orders Expected To Sell Out "Day One" Due To Limited Unit Allocation

Slideaway1983

@UltimateOtaku91 I use shopto as my predominant store for switch and when I had a disk drive, ps5 - they usually offer the option of both payment methods (now and despatch), but if I remember rightly with the ps5 launch, they either wanted full price there and then or a deposit.

So I would imagine until it all dies down, there will be a payment "now". If it goes for 400 though, I'd hope they use reasonable assumptions given economic climate and essentially a shadow drop on pre orders, and say ask for £100. I'd be comfortable with that.

***edit*** with the reorder going live, there was an option to pay on despatch, so I'm certainly not positive... maybe it will be customer by customer as in do they follow through with orders etc. It's hard to say, but there could be that option.

Re: Switch 2 Pre-Orders Expected To Sell Out "Day One" Due To Limited Unit Allocation

Slideaway1983

@UltimateOtaku91 ah cool. Fingers crossed for you then, bud. I'm unsure when they went live (my emails are saying 16th Jan) and my preorder was the 17th; so maybe the same day! Question now is can I afford it, as I'm currently in a squeeze that I didn't anticipate, and then I have to factor in launch games... I may have to sell some of my more rare S1 games to get one! Grrr.

Re: Switch 2 Pre-Orders Expected To Sell Out "Day One" Due To Limited Unit Allocation

Slideaway1983

@UltimateOtaku91 I may be wrong, but I paid the "1p" pre order, and I'm pretty sure the small print qas basically "if we have enough"... so I would say it's not a guarantee.

If you were "pre ordering" within the first hour or so of them opening, and they do it as a first come, first serve basis though, you should be OK.

Unless they've sent secondary emails that I'm not aware of?

Just friendly precaution!

Re: Switch 2 GameCube Controller Rumours Resurface Following New Nintendo Filing

Slideaway1983

@tdub154420 depends... I'd play eternal darkness again via NSO but probably not a remaster. Same as starfox adventures, he'll even f zero (was it?) GX if they ain't gonna port it. There's games there that don't necessarily scream "port", and there is the opposite, and some that straddle the line. As a value added feature, it could be worthwhile for a few titles, and it isn't as if they're throwing like 6 games a month at the list currently for one format, so perfectly doable, IMO

@eaglebob345 you wear glasses (in my case) for farsightedness to read close up... though I've always worn my glasses constantly as it's a hangover from being a kid and having a googly left eye haha.

Of course, farsightedness is different for different people, so to some, a tv may be far enough away to read, or may also need glasses.

Vision is a wonderful thing. 🤣

Slideaway1983

@rjejr indeed I did, good sir; same as my PSN haha.

I ruddy love that song (though not their best - that goes to the masterplan!)... I knew of Oasis before all these young whippersnappers (haha) nowadays because I had a cool uncle... introduced me to Bowie, public image and anything in-between!

***edit*** And you're welcome for the earworm haha!

Cheers for the welcome!

Re: Nintendo Suing Streamer For Allegedly Broadcasting "Pirated" Switch Games Ahead Of Official Release

Slideaway1983

@JohnnyMind yeah I'm aware of the US stuff - though I don't comment on here or PS much (indeed today was my first comment on here), I do read the articles.

So yeah also I read the article, but you've certainly succinctly minimised the article to small form for anyone that didn't read the article.

Personally for me in the UK, I've not received a game before street date for YEARS... I use shopto and they are brilliant for day one, even with the state of royal mail. I also generally only buy switch physical too - so that may have some bearing on lack on breaking the street date for me personally.

Pleased to meet you as well, long time reader of your comments, and admirer of your distilled opinions! I find myself nodding in agreement with much that you say!

Re: Nintendo Suing Streamer For Allegedly Broadcasting "Pirated" Switch Games Ahead Of Official Release

Slideaway1983

@JohnnyMind completely agree - I have emulators myself, but also 3 switch consoles (2 Ltd editions, one lite with scratched screen), and play certain games, certain ways to not "overuse" the consoles. At least I've bought my library of games, and dumped them legitimately (read, gray area) via mig switch... in a way, if he could prove he actively bought those ganes and recieved them all before street date, fair enough; but 50.... didn't stand a chance in heck 🤣 purely stupid actions from this person, done on the basis of profitability and nothing more.

Maybe he has a decent following though - I'm in my 40s and other than reviews and how to's and uploading music for grading, YouTube is not what I knew it as and let's plays just confuse this midlife pensioner 🤣😝
