Remember that slightly strange Zelda movie mention in the series' recent 40th Anniversary Direct, where Miyamoto confirmed the shocking news that the film will be titled... 'The Legend of Zelda'? We were all expecting something more, right? Some kind of teaser or perhaps a full-blown trailer? Well, the rumour mill has been a-turning in the weeks since, and a closer look might be just around the corner.

It all started with movie star Bo Bragason, who shared a post on her Instagram story earlier this week with the caption "I'm excited 4 tomorrow". People quickly leapt to their own conclusions, expecting a trailer to drop in the ensuing 24 hours, though, obviously, one never materialised. Still, the fans were on high alert, and the belief that something is inbound hasn't gone away in the intervening days.

Today, we land on a post from the Twitter account @iNCREDiPiNOY — which posts regular updates on ticket sales, movie Q&As, and the odd bit of "insider" info. According to iNCREDiPiNOY, the first Zelda trailer will be attached to Sony's other upcoming film, The Social Reckoning, set to arrive in cinemas on 9th October.

Now, Sony putting a trailer for its big upcoming blockbuster before another of its joints makes sense (it'd no doubt release online the same day, to prevent dodgy cinema phone recordings), and an early-October first look gives around seven months until the Zelda Movie's 30th April release date — lining up roughly with the gap between the Mario Movies' first trailers and release dates — but we'd still take all of the above with a big pinch of salt.

Typically, iNCREDiPiNOY gave no sources for their information, and while the Sony connection makes sense, we imagine there's very little crossover between audiences for The Social Network follow-up and Link's live-action debut. So no, we're not pinning too much hope on the date for the time being.

All that said, the countdown to release is nearly upon us. We'll keep a tentative eye on Nintendo Today! for news as we enter October.
