@TheFox Jake Lloyd is another extreme I could argue, but Ryan probably has a ton of friends who want his toys as opposed to Jake being bullied.

The 3DS, DS, and Gameboy were all very popular for a long cycle compared to some home consoles.

As for "new is good", retro gamers buying the NES and SNES Classic are a good counterpoint to that.

People buy games, not necessarily what is new, and what is new, if available, isn't always affordable initially.

Though I would say that I am of the school of thought that I am more critical of Nintendo because I love them more than I care for Sony. Some people are having a hard time with the criticism...but it isn't a personal attack on Nintendo, rather it's a lament that they could (and should!) do better because well, we deserve better as their loyal fans.

@johnvboy respectfully disagree that this is not a place to bring it up as the lawsuit article is a few days older and what I wish to highlight is that the new users means more instances of joycon issues—a PR issue for Nintendo. But I made my point already and at this point most of my responses are to people who don’t agree with it, and that’s fine if they want to discuss it, but I have nothing new to add besides what I’ve elaborated on already...

@johnvboy I consider it a salient point. Best selling console? Thumbs up for Nintendo and us fans. But thumbs down because it’s over three years into the system’s life and as demand increases, fixing the joycon issue should really be prioritized already precisely because it’s selling well and this is where Nintendo needs to protect its reputation for top quality hardware and service. If they can chase every IP infringement like poke princess, they can hasten things a bit more to fix this before more people (not “all”) this holiday season potentially deal with joycon drift.

@sanderev a little too simple to say some people don’t handle their gadgets properly, as not all climates and environments are equal. Where I am, there is a lot of humidity on most days and a lot of dust in my building, so I have to clean regularly and keep my consoles inside a plastic bag to prevent dust. Even with this extra care, the drift happens. And of course, I would throw in some games kill the analog sticks more like Super Mario Party (which I don’t have), but again: the defect is known and until they fix it and go through the hoops necessary to make changes that get to the manufacturing process, it’s a problem that enough of us have to deal with and isn’t something to “get over with” so quickly.

@sanderev yeesh. Whether it’s Nintendo or Microsoft, still a problem that needs to be addressed and not shift responsibility to consumers if they know it’s a common problem. Nintendo is in a position to need to fix this more than Microsoft because of the demand and large installation base then.

@TimboSlice because it IS an issue, given that Nintendo knows it’s an issue but hasn’t made the fix yet so that people don’t have to keep sending it in for repairs (and for those of us in countries where there is no official repair center, it’s worse). And a lot of people may not know what to do when this happens for their kids as not all Switch owners are up to date with news, such as a friend who bought it for his son in Bradford.

You can tell me to shut up, but you can’t deny it’s an issue many people deal with far too frequently, and more new owners means more potential problems for Nintendo to address eventually. Otherwise, saying that I should get over it is like saying to all the people whose babies got lead poisoning from the formula in China in 2008 are complaining since your own kids are just fine taking bad formula.

Nobody should be forced to have to send the controls in for repairs as often as they do for the joycons or fix it themselves.

People are going to have to hope all those new owners don’t have to deal with drift during the holiday season when they should be gaming in peace instead of waiting for repairs to be mailed back, especially those not living in a place with adequate postal service to mail the controls to Nintendo and back.

The number one console and the number one hardware problem with joycon drift.

I would not have known she was in the adult entertainment industry until I looked it up. She could have done well already without it, but...

Anyway, I don't have issues with people in the adult industry as I have friends working there in various positions (no pun intended), but some things like that Princess Peach game are a different beast. I can respect this woman as a fan and adult entertainer, but can't seem to explain why I find Princess Peach was distasteful in comparison.

When will Kemco actually release some of their old catalogue like Lagoon on SNES? Or even Kid Klown? Those were decent compared to the 21st century offerings.

I think also when we have so much on our minds that we take mental shortcuts without realizing it, and for my friends, they wanted to go right into the game rather than read the instruction manual, so they kept reading the title as “Diddy Kong’s Quest”. But they typically just said “DKC2”.

Examples of being absent-minded and too many thoughts:

My teacher in geometry wrote “circumcise” when she meant “circumscribe”.

This was repeated again a few years later in history when a different teacher lacking coffee meant to write “circumambulate”.

The director is starting to come close to Uwe Boll depths of quality...even the Pope has more substance than this trailer.

@tsdenizen A part of me was not surprised this happened, but I was still disappointed. Then again, the katana charging thing and finding a unique mechanic for his play style might have been an issue, along with everyone complaining about too many sword users...

@JayJ I personally don’t want any more Microsoft characters, but it was a point to say that Doomslayer and Master Chief would be another Microsoft character by virtue of being owner by them due to that Betheda purchase the same way Banjo is via buying Rare.

A part of me doesn’t want to play this and think it’s like offering a kid a lollipop and taking it away from him while he still enjoys it, another part of me wants to play this and sees this like ice cream or Szechwan sauce for McNuggets: enjoy it while you can and take it as much as you can before it’s gone so that you get so sick of it that you don’t miss it.

I am often the latter. 😁 and I don’t get sick of it.

Hoping Nintendo drops this limited time policy.

I've always disdained the whole re-release with extras in physical medium, because on the one hand, it makes me mad for being an early adopter. Granted, some of the events and mystery gifts I got so far were pretty good, but still, I'm not sure how I feel about this being re-released with the DLC as I have limited space in my memory card.

And of course, the price for both...

@NightBeast I agree some shows are worth watching, I just don't find most of it that great or worthy of all the high praise they get, which I suspect is mostly hyperbole like a Yelp review with someone saying "BEST TACOS EVER!!!"

But yes, on topic with Zelda: I don't mind Tom Holland taking a role, and I wouldn't care much for it being on NetFlix or not because I think Nintendo should have its own adaptation in-house instead like the Mario movie.

The only exception is of Ghibli does Zelda--though I suspect it would be Princess Mononoke and Nausicaa by that point!

@NightBeast Good point. Personally, I was never singing praises to Netflix myself because binge culture to me is worse than being a couch potato. I never even started using Netflix until a few months ago until my girlfriend moved in during the pandemic and brought her account over. So she uses it to sleep and I use it for background viewing while training martial arts.

@Menardi They are so far not far from Disney/Marvel with forced diversity for social justice and progressive culture, as well as other Hollywood studios.

Ghostbusters 2016? Yes, attack the core fanbase (even though some are actual jerks), but keep the issues with racism like having the ONE black girl be working class still, or how New York City has very few minorities.

Mulan? Yes, a movie that still has the controversy of being filmed in Xinjiang where Uighurs are being persecuted in concentration camps while working with a government that has a ton of human rights abuses (and no respect for IP).

Marvel comics: make an Asian Spider-Man (Cindy), a black Captain America (Sam), Asian Hulk (Amadeus), black Iron Man (Riri) and so on instead of original characters. I don’t feel any love towards people taking those roles because they just become “the black Captain America” and so on instead of their own character we relate to and follow. I don’t care if Peter Parker or Steve Rogers are white, I care about them as characters, not caricatures. This is why when DC made a black Wally West, it was forced and boring until he finally became his own character as the cousin of the original ginger Wally I love.

But yeah: most “diversity” I see is hypocrisy and marketing with low effort.

@Kalmaro I pretty much got bored with their original content and censorship, but only use it now to watch some anime.

I am a minority by their definition, but their diversity comes off more as tokenism—an afterthought—and marketing, rather than actually being diverse, which is more than just having all the colors of the rainbow, but rather including the diversity of IDEAS.

I read that it was not fully uncensored originally on the eshop. The steam version is COMPLETELY uncensored top to bottom, but the Switch version only goes half way (top half) or has a tasteful cover based on the options chosen.

Will buy digital first and may be my first double-dip to physical too because of how it was lost before...

@Strictlystyles Me too. The feature in Nintendo Power made it a frequent rental for me because I couldn't find it anywhere to buy, so it was basically what I got from Blockbuster for a long time.

I never played the Ninja Gaiden Sigma trilogy, so if it came out on Switch, it would be my first time. Obviously they should also offer the NES trilogy too or as a bonus for those who buy it...however they give us the trilogy, please: let us have it all!

I remember when EGM said that no compilation games were allowed for their top 100 games of all time list—otherwise, SMB All-Stars would win top place hands down.

In spite of the criteria for the review score here, I still agree with EGM in 2020.
