Re: Monster Hunter Movie's Chinese Premiere Reportedly Cancelled Due To Racist Joke

Severian

@WaveWitch yeah, the show has a reason for it because the guy is an artifact of his/my generation. It works in context. Most people ignore context and critical thinking because people are allergic to thinking since it makes their heads hurt. China and its social credit system is the priority and defending the motherland mindlessly at the very least brings you up as opposed to bringing you down.

Re: Random: This Tragic Tale Proves You Should Never Assume Your Parents Will Store Your Gaming Crap Forever

@MeloMan I feel for you man. Try this: when moving out as my parents separated when I was 10, my mom thought I did not want my NES before and nearly left it to be disposed of, but when I threw a fit in time, she brought it back the next time she visited... and then being technologically illiterate, she only brought the system but didn’t bring the RF switch or AC adaptor, or even the games when she got it from my room. She thought those weren’t important (even the games!) and thought it just played VHS tapes.

Re: Random: This Tragic Tale Proves You Should Never Assume Your Parents Will Store Your Gaming Crap Forever

@Heavyarms55 counterargument: even when one talks to their parent regularly, said parent may still do this act thinking it’s not a point worth discussing because the assumption is that those things in storage are just things forgotten, like old children’s clothes.

Second counter is the guy likely thought it wasn’t a point worth talking about because it was assumed it would be safe.

Assumptions on both parts—saw this happen personally in similar situations and with other friends.

@AndyC_MK84 I feel for this guy and agree with you there. I sadly find that lending things, an act of trust, has brought consistent disappointment. Books and games especially, so I just give people gifts instead of lending them now and I keep all things on hand because of those experiences. People are welcome to game at my place and check out my books, but nothing leaves my home ever again, and no longer do I burden people with my things.

@Kimyonaakuma @AndyC_MK84

Who knows what went on with his collecting? Maybe he wanted to enjoy them later in life, maybe he wanted a little personal museum.

I have met parents who sold or discarded things even when their children lived at home, and I’ve met people who have to leave things at home because of the implicit idea that home is safe. But in cases like these, it’s ultimately why trusting others with material possessions is a gamble.

Two cases for me: 1) a friend “borrowed” my PS3 and Wii and ended up ghosting me. After 11 years of friendship too. He even stole my childhood toys that included some old Mario plushes. 2) I left something in a locked room for my mother that she swore was 100% safe. What happens TWO YEARS IN A ROW is that first my stepdad went in to find something “just this once” and caused four hard drives to get stolen by leaving the door unlocked, THEN the next year he did it again and accidentally threw away my clothes, to the point that a sign saying DO NOT TOUCH OR MOVE is there for him, but at this point, we suspect he’ll do it again and lo and behold, he caused my mother’s scarf to get stolen when he left the door unlocked.

@TG16_IS_BAE Hey, if Nintendo thinks they're doing us a service by giving limited chances to give them money...I can't think of any other reason besides artificial scarcity or that production costs are higher than the potential return on investment that they could reap.

But I don't know...the NES and SNES classic were rationalized to take time away from manufacturing Switches, whereas Mario 3-D All-Stars doesn't make sense.

@TG16_IS_BAE it takes a lot to offend me. But that doesn’t mean I need to walk into a frat house if I have a choice, nor does it mean people should act like frat boys to highlight their points in a discussion. There was hardly a discussion here worth keeping and thankfully has been mostly done away.

See you in the next article comments section, dude. I like chatting with you actually.

Re: Switch Sold More Units In Q3 2020 Than Any Platform Since The DS In Q3 2009 (US)

Severian

It could potentially go past double what Xbox One sold in its lifetime by the end of this year too.

Will its sales surpass PS4 and create a new milestone for the XSeX and PS5? Will it dethrone the PS2 in its lifetime sales?

PS2 was popular as a default system to the point low income countries still had people buying it for a gaming system and DVD player, but also because of pirated games.

Switch is still expensive in many countries, to the tune of $500 in Brazil, but if it ever had capabilities of a smartphone and could have a SIM card, then the Switch would win automatically.

Re: MiHoYo Accused Of 'Carelessly Putting Players At Risk' In Genshin Impact Data Breach

@Yorumi There's a big difference between public information in a phone book and public records as opposed to the data security in question here.

What the information that is leaked now and to who it's given is not the same as a phone book where someone in your state and county have your information if they need to look you up or for the government to send you notifications for jury duty and taxes.

It is bulk information being sold to a group of advertisers and spammers, often in other countries who have your habits as well for analytics, analogous to giving your name, address, information on magazines you subscribe to, work history, dietary habits and so on that leads to not only flooding your mailbox with junk like Sears catalogues and Scientology newsletters, but also phone calls from telemarketers and visits from all sorts of people like Jehovah's Witnesses and Hare Krishnas or door-to-door salesmen.

In other words: who that information is made available to is not just your state and community, and it's a lot more than just public information, which will be used at the very least to analyze you and spam you in a targeted manner. This is decidedly not the same thing as a phone book or public records the same way Macy's can't send their catalogue to everyone listed in the White Pages.

Re: SNK Apologises For "Offensive Ad" Featuring Fatal Fury's Terry Bogard

Severian

Before his reveal, some people didn't even know who Terry was (or Mai even).

Some of these same people complaining about the offense are reminiscing about the so-called good old days when this kind of thing was funny and not offending everyone during a gaming era that they never grew up in, and it makes no sense to me.

Re: Review: GONNER2 - Another Way To Die In An Increasingly Crowded Genre

Severian

Aside from co-op, is this essentially more of the same? Because I have the original in my backlog from the last time it went on sale before this sequel was announced. I played it but not as much as Dead Cells, and want to know if I should stick with the original or if there’s enough of a difference between it and the sequel to warrant having both games.
