It is 100% a new Pokémon. It has a new entry in the Pokédex. I really cannot understand why this is a point of contention.

@DragonEleven They used the exact same term for evolution as they have done every single Pokémon that has evolved. If it was a form change, they'd have said it's a form change. You can't evolve into a different form of the same Pokémon, that's a form change

I can tell you 100% that this is a new Pokémon that evolves from Type: Null. It is not a form change. It is an evolution

It's disingenuous to say the demand isn't there. It's more, the demand has shrunk due to smart devices. I hate how analysts are so binary. It either has to be a huge success, or it's a failure.

Niantic keep messing the game up so it's not surprising. Most people I know have got fed up with it, with features being removed, with no word on tracking.

Have found issues with this unfortunately. I was standing next to a Golbat that wasn't there according to that site, and that site said there was a Krabby down the road when there wasn't.

I would agree in calling the launch a disaster. Currently, people logging in through the Trainer Club account have been unable to access the game for 22 hours with no word from TPC/Niantic bar a little note on the "Contact Us" page on support.pokemon.com.

When it does work, it has many glitches that cause the game to freeze or crash out.

Basically, The Pokémon Company and Niantic's silence on these issues (aside one tweet a few hours after launch) is shockingly bad. People don't know what the hell is going on. It's poor form and is damaging to the game and the companies.

@riChchestM The distribution, while a result of this, wasn't the focal point of this poll. While it would be for many players, for most it was "vote your favourite Pokémon". They also get a merchandise line and CoroCoro will be doing a competition for a special model of New 3DS LL based on it.

@Grumblevolcano Yes but in the time then, there was a 6 month delay. We should always go based on initial launch when determining these things due to how it's worldwide now. It's illogical to base statements/determinations based on western launches.

You said Game Freak broke tradition by having a year break. They did not. They often have it, it's just not seen in the west in past times due to localisation times. Simple as.

@Tsurii Well from the looks so far, there's no PVP battles. Pokémon just feel like commodities. You evolve them by getting more of the same species. It's quite worrying.

I do hope I'm all wrong with this, and that it is a compelling experience, but it doesn't seem to be Pokémon to me. I'll see for sure when I get my hands on it.

For the record, when they revealed Pokémon GO, they said that you'd be able to catch Pokémon just by pressing the button on the GO Plus.

There will be battles in the game, but they won't be like the main games.

@rushiosan Japan is very mobile-centric, to the point that it has decimated the dedicated gaming industry there. Compare sales charts of this year to the same week 6 years ago and there is a stark difference.

@EmmatheBest I think that's quite unlikely. Detective Pikachu is out already in Japan, and this is a worldwide Direct.

I highly doubt it'll involve any game that we currently know of.

For those worrying about the time, remember the Pokémon Direct that revealed X & Y was only 11 minutes long with 8 minutes on a Pokémon retrospective. 5 minutes is plenty of time

I admit, I'm likely to, eventually, end up with all 7 Gen 1 games across my various 3DSs.

@Krisi Not GameBoy games there haven't. This is the first game with emulated Link Cables.

Let's not forget that a lot more work went into these than standard VC titles. The Link Cable is something which would drop you out if a single packet is dropped, and so emulating that over wireless is a tricky proposition.

Do note that there are human characters in the game. In the arcade version, you can purchase (with currency earned in-game) new outfits for them. Chances are that's where this comes in.

@nintendorules The way the game works, each player needs their own screen and snapping from splitscreen to full screen in the shift that happens would be disorientating and damage the flow of the title.
