Problem is that Sensor Tower reported it did $25 million in its first week, so for the second, third and fourth week, it only did around $8 million which is a concerning dropoff
@Heavyarms55 If it was up to me, I'd call it "Smeltdown"
@MH4 It's 8 characters in Japanese. This is a contest for the Japanese name, not the English one. It's just the Japanese one can use English characters if it does so fit
There's a disingenuous narrative being brought here. You're comparing Let's Go to the starts of generations which always perform much stronger than remakes and much stronger than enhanced versions.
This is a remake of an enhanced version
Not to mention the fact it's comparing 1 and a half months of sales of Let's Go with over 2 years of sales for SM, 5 for XY, 8 for Black & White and 12 for Diamond & Pearl.
And it's ignoring the fact that the Japanese dedicated gaming market has heavily contracted in the last 8 years and Pokémon has weathered that relatively unscathed.
September was crazy for events so this doesn't surprise me.
It had Moltres Day (to sell Raid Passes). It had Mewtwo start (to sell Raid Passes). . It had Regional Eggs (to sell Incubators) and the usual Community Day.
It's no wonder Niantic are running 2 events at once now.
That said, let's not forget that so many companies have their hands in the pot. Google/Apple take 30% as is, then The Pokémon Company and Nintendo take a lot too
@Yoshi87 The core game sales haven't been dropping though. Yeah, adding new people into the fold easier is great, but let's not act like Pokémon was on a precipice
Also I disagree about hold items being removed makes it more competitive. It removes options and strategies by having none
@shadow-wolf Before last year, I would have 100% agreed with you.
Then I saw my 7 year old nephew trying to get into Pokémon Y and struggling because of the vast amount of stuff. He has finally got to grips with it but it took a lot of time and only because he was persistent, which many casual players are not.
The focus on narrative actually came with Black & White.
There's a lot I disagree with here. Mega Evolution, for one, is nothing like Transformers. It's actually a logical progression of something where the creatures evolve and get stronger. Having each Pokémon do it would also be pointless and a balancing nightmare.
Having a new Pokémon game without new Pokémon would also be insanity. You forget that Pokémon is a franchise across multiple formats and new always invigorates things. If there were no new Pokémon, the series would stagnate. We need to not keep looking back and have a "celebration" of things past, as we get that all the bloody time. We need to look to the future
As for Ultra Beasts, they're Pokémon. I don't know why this is a question. Ultra Beast is just a classification for various unique Pokémon not of this earth. If you have a problem with them, then you must have a problem with Elgyem, Deoxys and even Clefairy who are also Pokémon not of this earth
@Scarftail I've been saying these games are enhanced versions. There's nothing wrong with them being that. It's not a step back or "odd because DLC exists". It doesn't just add new modes, it alters the story. It does more, and this is doing a lot more than any enhanced version yet.
Just before people note that I forgot various QoL improvements and other elements, I had to truncate a lot of the minor improvements each game brought and focused on the major changes
I really don't understand the Internet's sudden claim of rewriting history. It doesn't. This movie is not canon to the anime. It's a retelling, not a remake/reboot
If the movie had Misty and Brock and was just the same story as before, then what's the point? Just watch the original episodes on Netflix or Pokémon TV
@impurekind So basically he either wants a third identical box on the market, which the market has no place for, or he wants a device that is impossible to exist in the consumer market right now.
@GoshDangTravino I've been playing this game since April and never before the localisation have we got this many gems. Once the launch period is over, it'll go back to how it was and it'll be hard to get gems again, especially when the Booster bundles disappear (also a launch thing)
@Kalmaro There is randomness in Pokémon, sure, and you can win without battling but the fact that pure random makes or breaks every battle is not ideal. It doesn't make it a good system
@Nintendo_Ninja Going between menus often has over 5 seconds of "Loading/Connecting" in the bottom right after loading it before you can do anything. That's not a good thing. Hopefully it'll be resolved but at time of writing, it's a bad thing.

@Lizuka Well the winner isn't based on votes so that wouldn't happen
Re: Armoured Mewtwo Trademarked In Japan
It's worth noting that Armored Mewtwo is a thing in the upcoming movie, Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution

Welcome!
Re: Pokémon Sales Slump To All-Time Low In Japan, Despite Strong Worldwide Performance Of Let's Go
@Peach64 Let's Go is not a spin-off. It is officially listed as a main series game and the developers say it is not a spin-off

Fun fact.
You can trade Meltan and Melmetal in GO.
No paywall.

Regardless, it's hard to say but Japan don't use the term Shiny for Shiny Pokémon. They use
色違い (Different Colour) & ひかる (Hikaru)

@Kirbyfan They are. The game's code has them listed as sub legendary, the same category as Articuno, Landorus etc.

@Tarolusa Yep, it's the Pokémon cycle haha

I apologise in advance if I missed anything with this.
It's so easy to forget simple things when dealing with the TCG.
Re: Feature: Looking Back On Enhanced Versions Of Pokémon Games
@gaga64 To be fair, in the Pokémon Direct that revealed Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, they did clearly say "an alternate story set in the Alola Region".

Re: Feature: Looking Back On Enhanced Versions Of Pokémon Games
@8-Bit_Zorldo Stars was a false rumour. They just started Gen 7 and won't shift to new hardware until Gen 8.
I can't help but think that the rumour is a large part of why there is some disdain towards USUM.
I mean in regards to new console, Emerald's localisation was out after the DS and Black 2 & White 2 were out over a year after the 3DS
Re: Feature: Looking Back On Enhanced Versions Of Pokémon Games
@DoctorOverbuild There is that element, sure, but from the game player point of view, it'd be an enhanced version.
Re: Feature: Looking Back On Enhanced Versions Of Pokémon Games
@thesilverbrick All signs point to it being an enhanced version as it shares some story elements:

Gotcha.
Re: Oddworld Creator Lorne Lanning "Has No Faith" In Switch
Oh there are so many things wrong, which is very unfortunate
For one, cartridges were brought because optical media on a portable device just doesn't work.
You'd think, as a developer, he'd be well informed about these things
I could go on for days countering how wrong he is haha
Re: The Pokémon Company Posts Net Profit 26 Times Bigger Than Last Year
@Hrimfaksi They are, but The Pokémon Company itself doesn't get the vast majority of the money from it. Game Freak and Nintendo do
