A new video has just gone live which shows of the basic movesets of Pikachu and Lucario in the forthcoming Wii U brawler Pokkén Tournament.
Due for release worldwide on March 18th, the game is being co-developed by Tekken creator Bandai Namco and will see various characters from the Pokémon universe duking it out for fame and glory.
The video shows the various button commands for a series of moves, and gives you a fair idea of how the game will play. It also includes a short preview of the next cinematic outing for the franchise - Pokémon The Movie X, Y & Z - which is also due for release in Japan this year.

I'm getting more and more hyped about this game. I really hope there will be more fighters available later on (paid or non-paid DLC doesn't matter for me)
Nice stuff. I need to preorder this one. I also love how detailed the fur is on that Pikachu image.
Was that bundle already announced? I'm guessing Japan only. Should help get Wii U back into 5 digits at least for a week in Media Create chart.
Already have a copy pre-ordered. Can't wait to play it with my son
It's finally nice to see how the movesets will work. I was wondering if it was gonna be Street Fighter, Tekken, or SmashBbros-esque. Seems to lean more toward the latter two.
Did anyone else notice Pikachu's super-sized Battletoads-esqe fist at the end of that ultimate?
I've never heard somebody so excited about the A button as this announcer.
Ah, I need this game~
This kind of fighting game has been a childhood dream of mine for a long while. Being able to actually have free control of a pokemon as they fight.
I really do hope it does well.
Guess that settles it. Pikachu will be my main!
The situation in this gif is unfortunately a rather low occurrence for Gardevoir who suffers from both lack of overall damage and very few attacks that are even capable of leading into combos.
I hope they can add in using two pro controllers
@nintendorules The way the game works, each player needs their own screen and snapping from splitscreen to full screen in the shift that happens would be disorientating and damage the flow of the title.
This looks great! I think it will be fun, but as I previously said, I would like some more game-modes added. I guess it's too late for that now though!
@Serebii I know that the 2 screen are necessary for multiplayer but i still want to use the pro controller for 2 player as i dont like using the gamepad for smash and this seems to be similar so i wont use it but i see why they chose it so each player has there own screen and can see the whole battle area
