@BLPs The idea of Pokémon is for it to be portable, to take with you and trade. It's a large part of why it's popular with both the younger audience and in Japan. If they were to remove it, it would damage the franchise.
To clarify, this is the end of a Slowpoke's Paradise promotion that has been on the official Daisuki Club which focused all upon Slowpoke. It provided streams of episodes, wallpapers etc. and culminated in Slowpoke Day on August 10th.
@mike_intv Yeah, the media (especially outside Nintendo sites) is going crazy about it, some acting like it's the first ever Nintendo-related app, too. We got this the last few times Pokémon apps came, and when Pokémon TCGO first came too.
@Yorumi They really do care about "balance". You're making statements and assertions just based upon you not liking what they're doing.
If you want to use Regenerator Slowbro, then do so. These two Megas don't suddenly make the others not exist, they provide a different alternative. Plus, if Mega Slowbro's defense boost is substantial, then having Regenerator on it would be broken and fly in the face of "balance".
@Yorumi Pretty sure they know exactly how the game works. Come on.
What these Mega Evolutions do, what almost all other Mega Evolutions, too, is change how a Pokémon is used, not just pander to how it used to be used. You can still use Slowbro and Audino that way.
The way Mega Slowbro will work, with increased Defense, is shrug off those hits considering how bulky it is, and thanks to its increased Special Attack, it'll hit hard.
@ALEC_EIFFEL So you complain that they're making lesser-used Pokémon viable thanks to Mega Evolutions, and would prefer for them to just give Mega Evolutions to over-used already powerful Pokémon?
@Megapokepaul The image was from a debug version and wasn't meant to be uploaded. On the official site, it was labelled as Mega Audino numerous times and references made to Mega Evolution
This game was one of the more annoying ones I have covered in my tenure on my site. It NEEDS Streetpass. Without it, you're utterly screwed. You need to have all three starters and lots of them in order to succeed, and to do that you need to StreetPass. Even the play coins won't replenish the Pokémon of the other species, so you need to have a constant access to Streetpass, which isn't easy in the US or the UK, especially when it's Japan only at this point.
To finish coverage, I had to get a Japanese friend camp out at one of the Passing Stations they set up at the Pokémon Centers. He finished it with ease there as it was a constant stream of them.
The fact that it is so StreetPass reliant makes me think it won't make it out of Japan.
CoroCoro usually reveals things. We get it early through leaks. Then, the official US and Japanese sites post it, then Get TV/Smash show the stuff. They have different audiences.
People seem to think that Pokémon Get TV, and shows like it, exist for the purpose of revealing news. It's not. It seldom shows stuff first, and when it shows stuff, it's showing to its audience that isn't necessarily tech-savvy so wouldn't have seen it.
Also, E3 while gaining some international notoriety, it isn't cared about much in Japan and so people wouldn't necessarily follow that.
Just to clarify, only three Pokémon games in the last 18 years (not counting the Red/Green/Blue thing, that's where things get complicated) have not come out of Japan.
They are: Pokémon Stadium (Original one only had 60 usable Pokémon. We got Japan's Pokémon Stadium 2) - 1998 Pokémon Card Game GB2: Great Rocket Returns (Came at a time when the licensing of the TCG in the west was shifting from Wizards of the Coast to The Pokémon Company, so there were rights issues) - 2000 Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Keep Going! Blazing Adventure Squad, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Let's Go! Stormy Adventure Squad, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Go For It! Light Adventure Squad (Hell if I know. They weren't good so maybe that's why).- 2009
In addition to that, Pokémon Typing Adventure made it in Europe, but not in America. Conversely, Pokémon Puzzle League was never released in Japan.
So it's not like Japan only Pokémon games are a common thing...
@sillygostly Would it not be more logical to use initial releases? Let's go the last 10 years. November 2004 - November 2014
September 2006: Diamond & Pearl September 2008: Platinum September 2009: HeartGold & SoulSilver September 2010: Black & White February 2012: Black 2 & White 2 October 2013: X & Y November 2014: Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire
There are gaps. You didn't see them here due to localisations and the now shift to worldwide launches. If they hadn't done that. X & Y would have been out this year for us, creating another year gap.
@TeeJay No they didn't. Nintendo are really good at deflecting the question, saying things like "We're happy with the current model of 3DS", which people often took to mean a denial. This is an outright statement saying no.
This one was actually the hardest I've had to write because it's so subjective, so I made sure to stay away from telling people what to use. I too hate telling people what to use. Always feel teams should represent the person and their ideas, but I cover that on my site because it's expected.
@AlexSora89 It's a quote that has always resonated with me for Pokémon training
@Morgan19 The global aspect was only intended for the release of the games.
As I explained, the other events haven't made it over because they would lose their context in doing so. The Happy Hour Inkay, for example, was for the opening of the Pokémon Center in Tokyo Bay, for which Inkay is a mascot. The newly announced Mega Evolution events are to tie in with a tournament being held in Pokémon Centers. These things would lose context if brought over and be completely pointless.
There's also the aspect that if more places in the west were willing to hold events, then there would be more events.
@Morgan19 The games were global release. They made no mention or promise of events being global release.
With events, context is key and 99% of the Japanese events would lose their context if brought over to the west. The Diancie event does have context, the movie, but the movie won't be out here until Autumn and as such, that's when the event will be.
@Fandabidozi It's very unlikely these will be WiFi.
If Darkrai is to come, they'll run the poll for it again. (Japan ran a poll to choose between Jirachi, Manaphy, Darkrai and Victini. Darkrai won and is being distributed) Diancie will come, but will be an in-store event.
@nielsadventures Don't forget, different economies. People continue to forget this. Things are never a direct conversion and it should never be a direct conversion. That's not how business works.
Besides, don't forget that US price is pre-tax, ours is post-tax

@Meaty-cheeky The game runs X & Y's engine, so it will be similar

To be fair, the use of shocking is only a pun in our language. In Japanese, there is no pun.

Re: Footage and Details Emerge of Mega Audino in Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire
@Yorumi They truly do know how competitive gameplay works. Yes, Regenerator is awesome, but it's not the be-all and end-all.
Also, most players care about critical hits when it screws them. Don't just dismiss it.
They know what they're doing. You'll see.
