The screenshots indicate very washed out graphics, even for a 10-year old game. And I am not even a graphics guy, my most played games of all time are GBA Fire Emblem, BotW and Hades.
Dang I have never seen so many removed comments in a single article here. So edgy over someone somewhere doing something which may cause something to Nintendo! In Nintendo's favour though, I guess they have suffered in the past generations due to modified saved data being the gateway to piracy, so they maybe trying to nip this at the bud.
This is a public nuisance. If you want to play tabletop at your personal space, fine, but in a public space, ugh. One thing nobody seems to raise though, how much will the reduction of the PPI degrade the handheld graphics (especially when some games run at 540p)? Will the OLED screen be able to offset that degradation?
@Ghost_of_Hasashi At least the attached joycons should get updated automatically, without the need to go to a menu and manually do it. For newly attached joycons, the system should detect the firmware and update accordingly.
Wow, this is at least the 2nd article on this topic in a couple of weeks - NL is pushing this hard. I will say what I said in the earlier topic - why not wait till the game's release to form an opinion?
@Clyde_Radcliffe It's a really weird bug, but I would suggest keep retrying - usually after 3-4 times it decides to update for me. Very annoying though, and I've heard retrying doesn't work for some.
@RushDawg Precisely my point - the game isn't out yet but people seem to "know" it will be good. While I don't agree to the opinion that 2D games can't be worth $60 (even that is a premature opinion), yet given the general length of Metroid titles, it does seem overpriced (and it's not just dollar per hour - if Nintendo charges 6 times dollar per hour with respect to say Assassin's Creed Valhalla, I doubt it will be 6 times more fun).
@dartmonkey While I agree that being 2D does not discredit a game and it could very well turn out be the best game ever made, I struggle to understand why you already believe it will be good. And if you already believe Nintendo's decision is "exactly correct", then what's the point of this article anyway?
@dartmonkey What worries me more is that you are defending this even before the game is out - why not play it first and as part of the review process you can justify why you think it's worth $60. And most of your arguments are based on why Metroid is a top-tier franchise from Nintendo and why Nintendo can demand whatever price they want for whatever they produce.
For me, Nintendo's Direct was mostly meh with a few interesting items - BoTW2, Advance Wars, Metroid, SMT5. However all except BoTW2 are "maybe", given that Advance Wars' art style is weird, not sure if Metroid is worth the $60 price point, and SMT5 - well, need to check the reviews. Everything else seemed like they just picked things off of other presentations (Guardians of the Galaxy, Mario and Rabbids, Skyward Sword). On the other hand, I did find Forza to be interesting, although I don't own an Xbox.
This was such a great show! I pretty much liked more than I can buy/play. The most impressive seemed Woodo and A Little to the Left (might scratch my OCD itch).
The graphics looks good but I am not interested. Just could not get into the first game - seemed so weirdly "plain" and the gameplay seemed so, so flat.
@somnambulance I am in the same boat - I have sold off 3 games, with Mario+Rabbids being one.
I don't understand why these game companies feel that gimmicks like these are good? Why can't they just make a product and sell it? And by selling I mean through normal sales channels and at least for the lifetime of a platform, not "buy it now from X outlet or be left out forever" schemes.
I want BoTW2, a Hades DLC, a Dragon Quest IX remaster/remake, a Final Fantasy IX remake, a GBA Fire Emblem triple pack (in the order of decreasing probability).
@GamingFan4Lyf Exactly my opinion lately - you summarised it pretty well, plus bad tastes left with limited time releases and amiibos being used to unlock simple game features. I'll keep my hopes low - this article, however optimistic it sounds, sounds like hollow hope.
@MS7000 I too have lost interest in Square Enix except the Dragon Quest side of it. Not that the Dragon Quest presentation blew my mind but still was probably better suited to my taste than this is going to be.
Nice. This is what happens when people keep supporting scams by billion dollar corporations (sorry if it sounds likes curses coming out of a tin foil hat). Did not buy 3D All Stars, not buying this game, Amiibo - what's that? Keep your wares, Nintendo.
I loved Builders 1 so much that I pre-purchased 2 (I never pre-purchase), but got so bored with 2 that I am not so interested in 3, unless they scale it back and give the control back to the player. That mechanic in 2 where your townspeople build the biggest stuffs for you is so modern and felt so much like a "watch while others play", I just couldn't finish it.
Dragon Quest XII or IX remake will be nice. Haven't played a Monsters title, so that will be nice as well.
I tried the Miitopia demo, had no expectations, but it seems like fun, dialogue and narrative-wise. The combat and explorations seem very limited though. Might play through the demo and make a decision, but that won't be an instant purchase.
Also I thought I would be the only one thinking that these games don't cover the bases, but I'm not. Quite samey games, some of these. (Samey as in, whatever has released before, not just during these two months.)
The Legend of Zelda: X of the Y; solve mysterious equations in mysterious dungeons to earn rupees and spend on gear which break easily and then rinse and repeat till you approach Ganon who makes you realise that you need to be more powerful, so raid weird assassins' lairs to get a lot of bananas to cook a banana curry to get your stats boosted and then kick Ganon's posterior so hard that he is gone till another game arrives.
Wow, finally something exciting on the Nintendo land. These shows sometimes throw such delightful surprises, I'm game! One thing I wouldn't say no to, is some additional content for Hades. Tally ho!
At this point the only reason I'm subscribed to this service is for the cloud backup. And I'm kind of uninterested to renew as I have lately lost most of my interest in the Switch itself. Let's see what they announce during E3.
@SpaceboyScreams Here's what we get. 1. A time limited, emulated package of Zelda games worth $60. 2. New wallpapers of Donkey Kong available from My Nintendo to celebrate the 40th anniversary. And this for the sweet price of Platinum coins, which was the precursor to NFT. 3. A please understand about further delays of Metroid and BotW2. 4. Can't think of much else.
Honestly, the disrespect towards Donkey Kong is baffling, when it's pretty much the oldest franchise Nintendo has.
Nintendo's strategy with these games has been an eye opener for me. After spending quite heavily on their games for a couple of years, now I literally scrutinise abd try to avoid every cent I give to them. My wallet is happier.
The first time I had seen the trailer last year, this seemed like a sub-par, half-arsed effort which stood on only one thing, poking those nostalgic nerves. Interesting to know that they haven't done anything extra to make the demo worth downloading.
@Dezzy Exactly, and the character movements are so, so slow, feels like I'm walking through molasses. Personally I felt the demo was a confusing mess.
@JR150 In my opinion, they could have made 3H in a way that you could essentially play the second phase for any house more easily, instead of having to play the first phase every time. Although I really like the first phase, after having played through it twice, it's starting to feel like a chore the third time (and I shudder thinking that there's a 4th path as well). I know it would have been very difficult for them to design, but would help a lot to be able to do it like Eliwood or Hector modes in 7.
Another great article. Although I don't want super flashy joycons, my current setup is a grey pair and I'm fairly happy with those, but the irony is, I want a black pair which they don't sell and probably was dev-only. I'd rather have the drift go away of my old neon red-blue pair and the gray ones never catching that virus, but probably not happening.
PS: your keyboard looks absolutely great, not that I'd use the same colour scheme, but I'd definitely use a spiritual brother version of it with grey and darker grey. And high five on "Republic of Gamers eugh"!
@NEStalgia I'd like to see that parallel universe where New Horizons doesn't get released with a pandemic, probably would still sell well, but I doubt it would be this big. The only thing transcendental about it is its sales.
@NEStalgia Yeah I agree with most of your points, but 3D world doesn't work for me due to the time limited levels. Pikmin I may buy on a sale, but the demo was kinda okay, nothing mind-blowing in my opinion. Age of calamity again was hype but the story elements kinda left me cold. The number of times I'm typing "kinda" in this message is indicative I believe - nothing among the current roster really really captivates me like BotW or Three Houses, which are objectively my favourite Switch games from Nintendo. Sony is a different story though, I never liked their first party efforts, seem too Hollywood-wannabe for my tastes, so never owned a Sony console except a PSP - you get the idea.
@NEStalgia I didn't own a Wii U and yet my Switch is collecting dust these days. 2020 still had a few indies and 2018/19-released games which were of interest to me, but now the well seems to have run dry. Probably an indie at the level of Hades or Dead Cells or the BotW sequel will wake me up. Probably this is why Nintendo had posted that tweet last year - charge your Switch at least once every six months.
PS: IMO the biggest problem with Nintendo these days is that if you are not interested in the specific series or titles they are releasing at that moment, you don't really have anything to look forward to. I understand that they don't want to cannibalise their games by releasing too many, but still it's not exactly helpful for the players, especially the picky ones. For example, if you weren't interested in Smash, 2018 would have been quite dry, if you weren't interested in Animal Crossing or Paper Mario or Pikmin, another dry year.
I am not a native speaker (so correct me if I'm wrong) but the title means Nintendo kind of backported features found in BotW to Skyward; the article is talking about something else - about how some of the BotW featured actually debuted in Skyward. Anyway, won't buy this game.
@buddyboyman lol People buying Nintendo games with their own hard-earned money are ungrateful! Fortunately Nintendo doesn't produce necessary products like milk, or people would owe their existence to Nintendo by this logic. Way to go!
@WiltonRoots These two groups are part of the problem, yes. But my comment is solely towards those who are actively bootlicking; I think my comment was clear enough.

Lego Advance Wars for $60! What an awesome thing, probably they could have made a scheme like Pokemon where you have to pay $120 to defeat 'em all!
