Re: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Hacker Arrested For Selling Modified Save Data

San_D

Dang I have never seen so many removed comments in a single article here. So edgy over someone somewhere doing something which may cause something to Nintendo! In Nintendo's favour though, I guess they have suffered in the past generations due to modified saved data being the gateway to piracy, so they maybe trying to nip this at the bud.

Re: Talking Point: Why Metroid Dread Will Be Worth $60

San_D

@RushDawg Precisely my point - the game isn't out yet but people seem to "know" it will be good. While I don't agree to the opinion that 2D games can't be worth $60 (even that is a premature opinion), yet given the general length of Metroid titles, it does seem overpriced (and it's not just dollar per hour - if Nintendo charges 6 times dollar per hour with respect to say Assassin's Creed Valhalla, I doubt it will be 6 times more fun).

Re: Talking Point: Why Metroid Dread Will Be Worth $60

San_D

@dartmonkey While I agree that being 2D does not discredit a game and it could very well turn out be the best game ever made, I struggle to understand why you already believe it will be good. And if you already believe Nintendo's decision is "exactly correct", then what's the point of this article anyway?

Re: Talking Point: Why Metroid Dread Will Be Worth $60

San_D

@dartmonkey What worries me more is that you are defending this even before the game is out - why not play it first and as part of the review process you can justify why you think it's worth $60. And most of your arguments are based on why Metroid is a top-tier franchise from Nintendo and why Nintendo can demand whatever price they want for whatever they produce.

Re: The E3 2021 Awards Winners Are In, But Nintendo Lost Out

San_D

For me, Nintendo's Direct was mostly meh with a few interesting items - BoTW2, Advance Wars, Metroid, SMT5. However all except BoTW2 are "maybe", given that Advance Wars' art style is weird, not sure if Metroid is worth the $60 price point, and SMT5 - well, need to check the reviews. Everything else seemed like they just picked things off of other presentations (Guardians of the Galaxy, Mario and Rabbids, Skyward Sword). On the other hand, I did find Forza to be interesting, although I don't own an Xbox.

Re: Dragon Quest 35th Anniversary Stream Will Reveal New Game Information

San_D

I loved Builders 1 so much that I pre-purchased 2 (I never pre-purchase), but got so bored with 2 that I am not so interested in 3, unless they scale it back and give the control back to the player. That mechanic in 2 where your townspeople build the biggest stuffs for you is so modern and felt so much like a "watch while others play", I just couldn't finish it.

Dragon Quest XII or IX remake will be nice. Haven't played a Monsters title, so that will be nice as well.

Re: Guide: Upcoming Nintendo Switch Games And Accessories For May And June 2021

San_D

I tried the Miitopia demo, had no expectations, but it seems like fun, dialogue and narrative-wise. The combat and explorations seem very limited though. Might play through the demo and make a decision, but that won't be an instant purchase.

Also I thought I would be the only one thinking that these games don't cover the bases, but I'm not. Quite samey games, some of these. (Samey as in, whatever has released before, not just during these two months.)

Re: Back Page: Guessing The Next Zelda Title Using Industry Trends

San_D

The Legend of Zelda: X of the Y; solve mysterious equations in mysterious dungeons to earn rupees and spend on gear which break easily and then rinse and repeat till you approach Ganon who makes you realise that you need to be more powerful, so raid weird assassins' lairs to get a lot of bananas to cook a banana curry to get your stats boosted and then kick Ganon's posterior so hard that he is gone till another game arrives.

Re: Don't Worry, E3 2021 Won't Be Locked Behind A Paywall

San_D

@SpaceboyScreams Here's what we get.
1. A time limited, emulated package of Zelda games worth $60.
2. New wallpapers of Donkey Kong available from My Nintendo to celebrate the 40th anniversary. And this for the sweet price of Platinum coins, which was the precursor to NFT.
3. A please understand about further delays of Metroid and BotW2.
4. Can't think of much else.

Honestly, the disrespect towards Donkey Kong is baffling, when it's pretty much the oldest franchise Nintendo has.

Re: Switch Exclusive Project Triangle Strategy Aiming For Around 50 Hours Of Gameplay

San_D

@Dezzy Exactly, and the character movements are so, so slow, feels like I'm walking through molasses. Personally I felt the demo was a confusing mess.

@JR150 In my opinion, they could have made 3H in a way that you could essentially play the second phase for any house more easily, instead of having to play the first phase every time. Although I really like the first phase, after having played through it twice, it's starting to feel like a chore the third time (and I shudder thinking that there's a 4th path as well). I know it would have been very difficult for them to design, but would help a lot to be able to do it like Eliwood or Hector modes in 7.

Re: Talking Point: Should It Be Easier To Customise A Nintendo Switch?

San_D

Another great article. Although I don't want super flashy joycons, my current setup is a grey pair and I'm fairly happy with those, but the irony is, I want a black pair which they don't sell and probably was dev-only. I'd rather have the drift go away of my old neon red-blue pair and the gray ones never catching that virus, but probably not happening.

PS: your keyboard looks absolutely great, not that I'd use the same colour scheme, but I'd definitely use a spiritual brother version of it with grey and darker grey. And high five on "Republic of Gamers eugh"!

Re: Sega Tops Metacritic's 2020 Publisher Rankings, Nintendo Squeezes Into Top Ten

San_D

@NEStalgia Yeah I agree with most of your points, but 3D world doesn't work for me due to the time limited levels. Pikmin I may buy on a sale, but the demo was kinda okay, nothing mind-blowing in my opinion. Age of calamity again was hype but the story elements kinda left me cold. The number of times I'm typing "kinda" in this message is indicative I believe - nothing among the current roster really really captivates me like BotW or Three Houses, which are objectively my favourite Switch games from Nintendo. Sony is a different story though, I never liked their first party efforts, seem too Hollywood-wannabe for my tastes, so never owned a Sony console except a PSP - you get the idea.

Re: Sega Tops Metacritic's 2020 Publisher Rankings, Nintendo Squeezes Into Top Ten

San_D

@NEStalgia I didn't own a Wii U and yet my Switch is collecting dust these days. 2020 still had a few indies and 2018/19-released games which were of interest to me, but now the well seems to have run dry. Probably an indie at the level of Hades or Dead Cells or the BotW sequel will wake me up. Probably this is why Nintendo had posted that tweet last year - charge your Switch at least once every six months.

PS: IMO the biggest problem with Nintendo these days is that if you are not interested in the specific series or titles they are releasing at that moment, you don't really have anything to look forward to. I understand that they don't want to cannibalise their games by releasing too many, but still it's not exactly helpful for the players, especially the picky ones. For example, if you weren't interested in Smash, 2018 would have been quite dry, if you weren't interested in Animal Crossing or Paper Mario or Pikmin, another dry year.
