@dartmonkey "We're not fans of the time-limited marketing tactic, but it's not like we wouldn't snap up a Prime Trilogy compilation the second it released, is it?"
No, an absolute hard No from me, unless the time limited release is of Breath of the Wild 2; even that would be a No, but a less-resolute one. Gotta reject this strategy with my wallet, however insignificant that effort may be. And it would be better if we stop giving them ideas about "celebrations". Sorry if this sounds like an overreaction, but this practice absolutely needs to go away in my opinion, unless we want this to be the next "microtransaction".
Thanks Nintendo Life for the tireless coverage, even during the difficult times. And thanks to the community too. Although I do not always see eye to eye with your stances, I really appreciate that this site exists and does such a fine job. Thank you and Merry Christmas and a Happy (and hopefully better) Year ahead.
Can we get the original's port please? The character models look hideous on the trailer of the remaster, while the original was one of the prettiest games of its time. Go figure.
I tried both demos and found them thoroughly unimpressive. The best part about the game seems to be the graphics, but even that seemed quite jagged on my 32 inch TV. I don't know but the second demo just threw me into the world map after a brief under-water narration or something. No intro or anything. And then the combat. There seemed to be no indication about which party member does what, unless you literally make an effort to learn about it beforehand, but essentially I was thrown into a battle within 2 mins of being thrown into the world map. Really really weird. I guess these are the same people behind Octopath, and I disliked that demo too, but that was way more polished than this, the only problem with Octopath I found was narrative. Never buying this.
However I really appreciate Square Enix releasing demos for their major games. hats off for that.
At this point, I am just using my Switch for playing Hades, and the only Nintendo game I am looking forward to is BotW 2. Who said Nintendo consoles just play first party titles?
@Retro_Player_77 Haha I understand, I don't want to pick up a fight with anyone. I like Nintendo's approach to developing games, they are really great designers, but as publishers, not so much. It's just that I feel we need to be cautious as consumers, and no amount of reiteration of this is enough.
@GTHOLLAND I am not bashing them as I'm not interested in Cyberpunk. My only point is, I don't think any company should be blindly supported or bashed. This limited time stunt by Nintendo should be something we as consumers should be cautious about, yet people blindly support them as if Lord Nintendo can't do anything wrong. Hope they don't end up in the same position as those Cyberpunk fans - corporations are not our friends and just see us as means to make money. We should also see them as entertainment providers and not All Father.
@GTHOLLAND Cyberpunk 2077 released with metric tons of bugs and as a nearly unplayable game on PS4 and Xbox One. Till that point, any criticism about the game or CDPR was being booed (understatement) by its rabid "fanbase". And now, nothing is right, it's a literal pandemonium around the game, and CDPR releases statements like they ignored the PS4/Xbox one versions, etc.
Those who are defending Nintendo here, remember a recently released game called Cyberpunk 2077. Don't defend corporations, they will come back to unpleasantly surprise you.
Things like these do a good job in reminding us that Nintendo is no one's friend, it's a corporation unlike others. I am not saying whether it's good or bad, just that they don't care whether you get to listen a piece of music you liked. And those who are defending Nintendo here, hope they don't strike something down you hold valuable.
Only 2020 games I bought were Hades and a small puzzle game called inbento. (Got the info from Deku Deals.) Hades: 10/10 inbento: 6/10 As others have suggested, there is no point in having all games released in a year, the least Nintendo Life could do was to include only the games they have reviewed.
A demo helps people to understand whether they like a game, especially the controls and how it looks and runs in real life. The idea of making it available for a limited time defeats the purpose except the early adopters. Baffling!
If they ported the 7+6 duology, I would have bought it for sure. This is not nearly as enticing, and I don't want to fan Nintendo's limited releases practices either, so a hard pass.
@SMUGSLOTH69 I was hyped about Empire of Sin but the reviews seem mixed to negative, also some of the reviews mention complicated interface on PC, so I'm not sure how consoles will handle it. I'll probably pass.
This and Tetris 99 are my evergreen titles on the Switch. Recently conquered 1BC and then went to Hades, which has become the new addiction. Will wishlist this DLC.
Hades, now I have finished it 7 times with a few weapons and heat levels - the shield is my favourite. Never did I think that I'll like the shield in any game. Amazing game!
@Jokerwolf Haha Nintendo will never do that I believe, although it would be super cool. Even a dual boot kind of option with Android as the other OS would be so good - that would not be entirely shady I guess. But the least that they can do is give these games over Switch online.
@TDRsuperstar2 That fact alone turned this game from a "will buy after a performance patch" to a "maybe, I don't know" for me. I don't know why they can't have a single timeline/story thread and instead have to go for multiple timelines and whatnot. And they don't even achieve a great storyline (for the universe) by having the luxury of multiple timelines, as much as I see. Disappointing.
When this was announced, I got super hyped as I love BOTW and haven't played any Warriors game till now. Since the demo dropped, I started to lose interest, as I found out what the grind is like, on top of the framerate issues. Now having watched several gameplay videos (which enforce the idea of repetitive gameplay) and having come to know about some of the story elements, I'm not so sure about it anymore. Maybe on a sale, but then again Nintendo's games almost never go below 40 dollars, which seems high for this one.
@ReikoMortis That's unfortunate considering a specific artistic/narrative direction for the base game. One of the reasons I don't like the Smash concept, as it does not have a consistent direction and seems like a mishmash of everything.
I thought this game was based on Greek mythology, why randomly include a Chinese mythology pack? I mean they could make that into a different game, why mix two quite different stuffs? Or is this the start of a new genre - RTS-like multi-dynastic Action RPG? #confusing
@MatoFilipovic @DeclanS98 While I don't understand how their livelihoods depend on Twitter (given they are not streamers and maybe use this for promotion of their games only - hence a temporary ban does not feel like an "emergency" emergency - although I'll really like to learn why it is so important for them), I don't fully agree with you. These platforms are there and have promised monetary benefits to people, so people have opted for those - although not keeping all eggs in the same basket is always a sound advice. These are legitimate avenues for earning money, just like a standard job is. Someday an employer may wake up and decide to fire someone.
@Eddy9000 Haha I have now beaten it twice, happy days! The final boss' lava gun kinda attack was throwing me off earlier, once I found a way to do better against it, it was all the way to Greece. Now need to keep playing with different weapons and heat combinations.
I honestly don't understand why people are trying to defend the game here. 30 fps is pretty much a bare minimum industry standard and people do have the right to criticise a game's technical limitations if they are paying customers. It may not matter to some but the criticism isn't invalid. On the other hand, those who are freaking out and writing off the game right away are overreacting. Even if this is the release version, a patch might come in near future. And this is why I don't support pre-ordering games, without reading reviews.
The frame rate issues are definitely there. I am not a frame rate buff but I can see it. It's not unplayable but jarring. Hopefully a patch comes soon.
@Bunkerneath Frame rate does not matter to you? So you can play it if it ran at 2 fps?
@Axlroselm Didn't mean 80 or 90% discount. Maximum I have seen on the eshop is 30%, could be somewhat better if I try to get physical during Black Fridays. This game is definitely not on my priority list, on a "maybe" list maybe.
Will try this tonight. My internet is supposedly quite good but have never tried any streamed game. Also how it handles the controls will be the thing to check.
@TheFrenchiestFry @JohnnyC I do get that - obviously God of War is different from the Last of Us, and maybe Sony has done a better job in the PS4 generation to spread out in terms of variety. My sentiments come from their relative focus on the narrative driven, cutscene heavy 3rd person shooter games - Last of Us, Uncharted type. My opinion may seem a bit hyperbolic but those don't resonate with me at all, so I am not much bothered whether one has a stealth flavour or the other has a platforming flavour. I still appreciate Sony's efforts, just that those are not for me.
@HSuzumiyaVI I don't get your point, why will they get backlash for localising an old game? Rather this has made people hopeful for games like Mother 3. The backlash here is more for their limited time releases, for whatever reasons they thought it will be good for them.
@NEStalgia lol @ the Bobby Kotick comparison. While probably they are not as bad right now, but the writing is on the wall. They do seem to get their inspirations from EA and Acti these days. I have decided not to buy any of their time limited stuff. This is totally unnecessary for a corporation like Nintendo and hopefully it hurts their image so bad that they stop this nonsense going forward.
This might be the first Switch game for which I may buy physical even if I have the digital. This is easily in my top 5 video games ever, although I do understand the criticisms it usually gets. But at the end of the day, what a story!
Dang the way they release this steady stream of trailers, I'm impressed with Nintendo's strategy here. Keeping the game in discussion. And if these untold chronicles characters are playable (there are predictions that the Yiga guys may be playable like The previous HW), that means a huge roster already.
I'd rather buy a solid DLC pack for Mario Kart 8. Not interested in this at all. Why would I want to see my messy room on the Switch screen? I doubt we'll see the toy while the race goes on. What is the point of this? :-?
I will not pay $60 for this for sure. At least the demo helped me understand how the game plays. The graphics seemed quite nice to me, not looking too much into the specs. I was not interested in this game earlier, but now it's on my wishlist. Obviously not a priority purchase, but maybe I'll get it on a discount.

Re: Cross-Save Support Is Now Live In The Switch Version Of Hades
@nerdface Any supporting information for this? Quite a few games support cross save, and Nintendo never seems to object to that.
@gameboy1975 Agreed 100%, but don't bother with the game awards, they are ***** and seems to idolise Hollywood any way.
For me, I can now buy the Steam version and enjoy it for eternity (in case the Switch eShop shuts down in future).
