Re: Feature: Best Switch Demos - Try Before You Buy On Switch eShop

San_D

@Milton_Burle Dead Cells is many games in one. The movement/platforming is like Prince of Persia lite, the character's stomp is like Donkey Kong, gears are immensely varied - I can literally play it like semi-Chess, where I deploy traps and run away while the monsters have no way to escape those or I can blast through enemies using heavy weapons. The combinations are so interesting and unique, it's a shame that this game doesn't have a demo - I believe a lot of people on the fence would buy it after minutes. Heavily recommended!

Re: Feature: Best Switch Demos - Try Before You Buy On Switch eShop

San_D

@Milton_Burle @sandman89 I too had given up on metroidvanias after Hollow Knight, but then I got Dead Cells, it's just too good. It's exactly what I felt Hollow Knight wasn't - fun. And you don't really need to go looking for a random line of lore and fight some boring monsters en route and die and fight your ghost and those same monsters and so on...

Re: Review: Warborn - Solid But Unspectacular Advance Wars-Style Action

San_D

@Axlroselm I was tremendously hyped about Wargroove when it came out, and bought it on day one. The first few maps were mostly enjoyable. Then started the trend of hour long maps with terrible fog of war and surprise reinforcements, and it sucked all the fun out of it. I haven't been able to go back. I now wish I'd waited for a sale.

Re: Ubisoft's Gods & Monsters Really Does Look Like Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

San_D

Doesn't look good. Against BoTW's dreamy, beautiful graphics, this looks like late 2000s' early HD. Hopefully this is just because of the alpha build, and not the graphical direction they intend to go towards. I don't bother the obvious "inspirations" from BoTW though, if I can roam around ancient Greece like Link, I'll be happy enough (but not with that kind of graphics).

Re: Nintendo Is Supposedly Restructuring Its Brand Ambassador Program

San_D

@Liam_Doolan Can you please explain more about the program? The article only says ambassadors have to portray Nintendo/its games in the best possible light - so is it a set of guidelines? In that case, he should be happy that he is now free to post whatever he likes. Or is it that the ambassadors get benefitted in some way, like free review copies or even monetary benefits? Sorry but a quick Google search didn't help much.

Re: Random: Switch Fans React To EA's Partnership With Google Stadia

San_D

@graysoncharles @Steel76 The topic here is EA doesn't give a damn about Nintendo user base - whether it's about porting their engine or porting older games. They would rather go to a platform where they don't have to do anything, even if its market penetration is less than negligible. And fans have every right to be baffled at those decisions. No one is asking EA to make a loss to bring over games to the Switch, but when others are trying to get into the market and actually profiting out of it, EA's decision does seem weird. As for your condescension about "why do Nintendo fans whine if they hate EA so much", it's about variety in the catalog in my opinion. If EA has done good games, there is no reason not to appreciate those and wanting to play those on someone's platform of choice. As for me, I don't care for Star Wars, or this game in particular, so I'm good even if EA doesn't care.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (March 21st)

San_D

Three Houses. Not buying Animal Crossing. Gosh, seeing all this Animal Crossing coverage, I wish it were BoTW2 which released this weekend and we'd get hyped about the epic scenery.

@Anti-Matter, it's a great game, but I liked Builders 1 better. The social aspect of this game (residents start building the biggest structures) is something I didn't like. It takes away the control and accomplishment from me.

Re: Feature: Oxenfree Developer On Mixing Up Demons, Drinks, And Drama In Afterparty

San_D

@Cosats Tells a bit about the current state of the world, in my opinion. Even escapades are becoming virtual.

@Kabloop +1, probably not every article can be like this, but at least NL can/should make an effort to publish more articles like this.

From the article and comments and general coverage around this game, this one seems dope, planning to purchase it soon.

Re: Miyamoto Says The Success Of The Switch Was All Thanks To The "Good Timing" Of Its Release

San_D

Whatever the cause might be, just don't follow it up with a Switch U.

@RickD AAA game development has become so expensive and risky, hardly anybody takes any additional risks these days and try to squeeze as much money out of a game/engine as possible. Others sell lootboxes, Nintendo re-releases previous gen titles. And given the user base of Wii U, those are like new titles to most of the crowd. Can't blame them for trying to recoup the money invested on those titles.

@dew12333 Agreed.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Switch Turns 3: Challenges Await, But What A Ride So Far

San_D

The Switch is really a special aspect of my life. Bought my OG one in July 2018, while going through a really rough and dark phase. I won't say it magically made things better for me but it certainly made (and is still making) those dreary days a little bit more tolerable. Plus, it still feels like the most "sci-fi" piece of tech I ever owned, so hats off to Nintendo for creating such a special device. While I do have some complaints, today is not the day to say about those.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 22nd)

San_D

@Ardisan Indeed, best FF for me, and definitely in my top 10 of all time. Also agreed about Freya's story (and also Amarant's). The trance mechanism too is kind of useless. But other than that, it's pretty flawless. Obviously some people will say that the story moves slow, but that makes it more cinematic and classy in my opinion.

Re: Talking Point: Saber Interactive's Latest Witcher 3 Update Sets A New Standard For Switch Ports

San_D

@sixrings When Mario Kart and smash are 1080p 60fps man these graphics are amazing and 60fps or nothing. Then all these other Nintendo games come out at 900p or 720p or 30fps and "it's good enough, I'm not a graphics whore."

And what's wrong with being content with decent experiences and be happy with better experiences? And your comment on Switch Pro doesn't make sense either. Nobody is holding Nintendo at gunpoint to not release a Switch Pro. Those who have the regular Switch are just scared of being left out. Even then, there is not a huge uproar at these Pro rumors. Nintendo acknowledges this fact and hence is cautious. Heck, even Microsoft is playing it cautious with all games to be made to run on original Xbox Ones.

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Might Contain In-Game Purchases

San_D

@Silly_G I believe if you use a micro SD card, that can be backed up, so the updates and DLC can be backed up. But my point was, storages fail and in that situation, the physical copy is not sufficient. I do understand Nintendo's concern about piracy and hence their decision to make the carts read only, but there is no solution eventually (when the store shuts like Wii), unless they make the Switch eShop like Steam.

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Might Contain In-Game Purchases

San_D

@Silly_G Regarding the completeness of the package, even physical copies are not sacred anymore, with patches and updates all around. And last I checked, if those servers go down, and you don't have a backup of those updates, you can't play the vanilla carts while your internet connection is on. Also related to Animal Crossing, is it just me or this game seems to be in the headlines for all the wrong reasons like save data backup and in game purchases?

Re: Nintendo Expands The Switch Online SNES And NES Library With Four More Games

San_D

Gosh, another troll attempt by Nintendo!

Those hoping for Final Fantasies and Chrono Trigger, be real. Square Enix sells these games on other platforms, they even sell DQ 1-3 on eShop. I doubt unless Nintendo pays them quite a lot, they won't allow these. And Nintendo probably won't pay them a lot.

Regarding the lacklustre games, I can only think of one reason Nintendo does this. They don't want to cannibalise the indie games.
