@tourjeff Digital sales are a fraction of physical sales. I don't know why people always quote the eShop to make things sound better than they are. Well, actually I've just said why.
How a game that releases before it's finished, isn't the most up-to-date version, lacks voicechat communication, runs at 30fps(not ideal for this genre), has framerate issues, charges full price despite its age and shortcomings gets a 7...... I don't know. And from what I've heard and read, I wouldn't expect any future patches either.
Deserved winners, especially BOTW. Except what's a 4 year old Wii U game, MK8, doing winning an award in 2018? Unless it won the award for Port of the Year. Did it get an award from D.I.C.E back then?
Edit: I checked, it got the same award back in 2015.
Super Mario Odyssey got practically no love at all, winning just the Outstanding Achievement in Sound Design award, that almost feels like tokenism. You know, Nintendo should rerelease it next year, tack on a better multiplayer mode, call it Super Mario Odyssey Deluxe and it'll get some more awards with BOTW out of the way.
@readyletsgo #Switch Tax. It's not the most up-to-date version and it's yet another game that's being released before it's properly finished. So like a lot of other games, e.g. Rime, DOOM, Minecraft, Rocket League, FIFA 18, Snake Pass, etc, expect some later patches.
Edit: Scratch that, there may not be any future patches.
@EVIL-C You're right, I hadn't noticed but SteamWorld Dig 2 is twice the price of the original game. Does it have twice the content? Does it look twice as good? No is the answer to both questions. Image & Form have had a lot of good publicity and their games are great, perhaps they think they can increase the premium on their titles now.
@OorWullie Yes, VooFoo made it and Ripstone published it. Ultra Chess on Switch was made internally at Ripstone, which is a bit strange because it looks exactly like Pure Chess. I'm like yourself asking Indies about games coming to Switch, never get an answer. Don't blame them either, they're not going to reveal a game to some anonymous Twitter user. But it shows people are interested and I'm sure Ripstone will port it. It would trounce the 3 Pool games currently on the Switch.
@Octane That's a terrible statement. People spend €330 on a machine, a machine that costs more than the competition but they should look elsewhere for 3rd party support? We shouldn't have to. It's fair to ask where the new games are, especially regarding 3rd parties. Even with the success of the Switch so far, they still won't commit fully. It says a lot.
I was talking before about Pure Pool from Ripstone. It's from the same guys that made Pure Chess. It's a good Pool game and crucially has online multiplayer. The 3 Pool games released in the past couple of weeks are not good and none of them have online multiplayer.
@CorvoRevo "Wait until the next Direct. Bombs will be dropped."
I hope it's not F bombs dropped by disappointed consumers especially after the last poor Direct and then the kiddy announcement of Labo. We need new games, especially 3rd party announcements. Where the hell are they?
"...Inspired by the wave of Italian crime movies released in the 1970s, Milanoir tasks you with sneaking, choking and shooting your way through a violent criminal underworld, hunting for the man who framed you, surviving breathtaking vehicle chases, and taking out anyone who stands in your way.
The game has been designed with the unique capabilities of the Nintendo Switch in mind, allowing two players to explore this bloody and pixelated..."
Too much of a "good" thing can be bad too. And it's not just that they're ports, they(including Nintendo) very often slap a €60 price tag on a game that's years old and has had very little if anything added to it. The upcoming port of DKC: Tropical Freeze is a notable example. They added in Funky Kong kind of like the white Tanooki suit in SM3DW when people die a lot and they do as it's a tough game but that's it. The game is less than €20 on Wii U but Nintendo are going to charge Switch owners €60 for it.
All the ports wouldn't be so bad if there were a load of new games coming out all the time as well. It's a bit like Metroid. Nintendo released Federation Force when people wanted a proper Metroid game. Had that game released before or just after a main entry, the backlash wouldn't have been so bad. Metroid Pinball didn't get the hate because we got proper Metroid games back then also.
Dreadful debut for Bayonetta 2, it didn't even boost hardware sales. I suppose you can say it's ~21,000 combined. That's still not great. According to 4Gamer, the Wii U exclusive sold 38,828 units in its first week on sale in Japan, nearly double that of on Switch.
I remember it got slated for poor sales on Wii U. What will people say now about it on Switch? And despite its high placing in the UK chart, its actual sales were worse than its Wii U debut there also.
Secret of Mana Remake is another game with poor debut sales this week. I loved that game on SNES. I was watching some video the other day, it may have been Digital Foundry, but anyway they said that Square Enix cheaped out on its Remake.
It's disgusting to see turds like 1,2 Switch nearly at 400,000 copies sold in Japan alone while quality games won't reach that target worldwide, never mind just in Japan.
And the headline should be about Bayonetta 2, not Splatoon 2.
@gcunit I wasn't going to say it but yes Star Fox Zero is a steaming pile of crap. Lazy effort with broken controls. Nobody will be remembering it in 25 years unless in a bad way.
Whereas games like ALTTP and Super Metroid have aged gracefully and look as good today as back then, Star Fox shows every one of its 25 years. It and Star Fox 2 are two games I've absolutely no interest in playing on the SNES Classic Mini.
Another disadvantage to buying digital games is you're exempt from "In the EU you have the right to return these purchases within 14 days for a full refund. You can do so for any reason – even if you simply changed your mind."
The 14-day "cooling off" period does not apply to all purchases. Some of the exemptions are:
...-online digital content, if you have already started downloading or streaming it...
Not to mention you can't sell it or lend it to someone. Anyway, it's funny Norway quoting EU laws when they're not a member of the EU, theough thay are a member of the European Economic Area(EEA).
You can be sure there'll be more ports. Who needs new games, right? In fairness to Panic Button they do a good job with the ports given the limitations of the hardware.
I'm still waiting for EA to announce even 1 new game for Switch. You know it's 6 months since the Switch version of Fe was announced, which really they'd little to do with other than publishing it. It's over a year since FIFA 18 was announced for Switch. That's it, in all that time they've committed to nothing else. It looks like another "unprecedented partnership".
The Lost Child? More like The Lost Gameplay. I feel like I've seen a very similar trailer of this already. It was probably during the NIS America Press Event 2018 broadcast recently. Speaking of NIS America, can we expect a Limited Edition for €100 with some cheap tat? Probably.
@GrailUK Ripstone published Pure Chess on the Wii U. It was developed by Voofoo Studios. Ripstone also published Chess Ultra on the Switch. They made Pure Pool.
It's a decent game by all accounts and crucially it has online multiplayer amongst other modes. It's €10 on Steam and €5 on PS4 at the minute. I'm sure Ripstone will be looking into releasing it on Switch.
The 3 games of Pool announced and released over 3 weeks aren't good at all. None of them have online multiplayer. There's an opportunity for someone to put out a competent game of Pool. Everyone loves Pool.
I read a story over the weekend, about another emulator running on Switch. I wasn't sure if I should post it but seeing as the site is talking about hacking, I don't see why not.
Capcom cutting corners again with a physical release, partial download in the US and Europe completely gets the shaft again with no physical release at all. How big can this be? Surely it's got to easily fit on a 16GB cartridge, hell it'd probably fit on a 4GB cartridge? This is unbelievable what they're at.
Edit: Actually, thinking about it more, it's the first Collection that's being released physically, not the second. Those games are MB's in size. They can fit those games easily on a 1GB cartridge multiple times over. It just gets worse. They're not thinking about the consumer at all, but only of themselves and making as much profit as possible. If Indie developers can put games on 8GB cartridges then mighty Capcom as a big 3rd party have no excuse not to do likewise for the complete Collection.
Edit:
That's not a cleaning cloth. That's for people to dry their tears after being conned if they buy the retail version.
@Grumblevolcano You can replace the battery on the Gamepad yourself. It's very easy, you can't do that on the Switch. You've to send it off to Nintendo. Also, the Wii U had its games all contained on the disc compared to Switch cartridge games that have a lot of their data as a digital download, especially the larger games. When the servers go down, Switch is in trouble.

It's as expected. Bayonetta is a niche franchise, it'll likely be gone from the charts the week after next.

Why not, everyone else is at it.
Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend?
Payday 2 should get redundancy.

Questioning a score and pointing out the game's faults doesn't make someone disrespectful of the reviewer nor does it make them pessimistic.

@PlywoodStick They made Sssnake Pass and their logo looks like a snake.

Everybody should buy Toki Tori 2+.
Everybody should avoid Superola and the Lost Burgers.
