Re: Masahiro Sakurai Confirms He's Working On Super Smash Bros. Switch

SLIGEACH_EIRE

I explained this along with why I believe this is an updated port and not a new Smash Bros. game.

This is at the end of the credits of the Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS reveal trailer.

Now this is what's at the end of the Switch Smash Bros. trailer.

How I read this is that it's an updated port of the Wii U/3DS game. Nintendo and HAL Laboratory made the "original game". If you pay attention to gaming, you would have heard Sakurai recently talking about doing consultancy work, I think that's what he may be doing on this project and he was talking about Smash Bros. in this interview.

"…Well for me, every time I always think, “This might be the last one.” If it’s a request from a client then I’ll consider it, but I do wonder, “Is it alright if I’m not the director?” It might be good to take on more of a consulting role."

Nintendo wouldn't say at the end of the trailer in tiny writing that this is an "Original Game". If it was a new game, Nintendo would be all over telling people this fact.

Edit:

The same "Original Game" copyright was written about Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS. Scroll to the bottom.

How I possibly read this is that it's an updated port of the Wii U/3DS game. Nintendo and HAL Laboratory made the original game but only Nintendo and not HAL Laboratory are working on this upgraded port. If you pay attention to gaming, you would have heard Sakurai recently talking about doing consultancy work, I think that's what he may be doing on this project and he was talking about Smash Bros. in this interview.

@mikeatron85 Relax with the name calling please, he wasn't insulting to you. It's not a same day launch, the game will be 6 months old when it releases next month on Switch.

I hope they're at least including the first 2 DLC packs for free, considering we all know they're going to charge $60 for this despite it being late. You can now buy the game on other platforms for about half price.

@Robsnow Nowhere does he say it's a new title. The Japanese Smash Bros. Twitter account doesn't say it's new either.

It's not clear what that copyright at the end means. I read it as Nintendo and HAL Laboratory own the copyrights to the original game. If it was a new game I'm sure Nintendo would want to make that abundantly clear. Maybe it is, we'll get the answer very shortly.

Re: Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker Makes The Leap To Switch And 3DS

SLIGEACH_EIRE

@KingdomHeartsFan So what has Nintendo released so far this year? And we're into March. Bayonetta/Bayonetta 2? Em, I own it already, what are people like me supposed to play? Or in the coming months? Kirby? Probably not. There's more Wii U ports coming in the shape of Hyrule Warriors and Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze before E3. Plus more from others.

Re: Little Nightmares: Complete Edition Mashes Horror And Puzzles On 18th May

SLIGEACH_EIRE

@QwertyQwerty You've got it wrong. It doesn't say it's being developed by HAL Laboratory, the original copyright to Smash Bros. is owned by them and Nintendo. There is nothing in that trailer to suggest it's new. I think some characters like Link will get a BOTW model, some added stages, maybe add in some new modes but underneath it all, it'll still be the Wii U/3DS version.

Re: Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker Makes The Leap To Switch And 3DS

SLIGEACH_EIRE

@Twonips They could have played the games on Wii U. Nothing stopped them.

I was thinking if they were perhaps digital only and straight ports onto the eShop, then maybe. You know the Wii U got that. Wii games, €20 a pop. But why charge €20 when you can charge €60 and do relatively little work and in some cases add nothing new, e.g. the Bayonetta games.

Re: Nintendo Download: 8th March (Europe)

SLIGEACH_EIRE

Quiet week. Quite weak. I suppose there's Scribblenauts Showdown which is the only real standout title for me this week, but apart from that, meh.

Edit: Then maybe Bleed 2 and Earthlock to a lesser degree. Speaking of Earthlock, why is it €25 on Switch when it released on the Wii U eShop not too long ago where it costs €10?

Re: Switch Helped Nintendo Grab 22 Percent Of The Games Market In 2017

SLIGEACH_EIRE

Microsoft's loss is Nintendo's gain. There's studies and reports for everything like this one yesterday.

STUDY FINDS THAT NINTENDO GAMERS ARE LEAST WILLING TO PURCHASE DLC AND ADDITIONAL CONTENT

The report was for the UK and Nintendo tend not to do well there.

________________ __ ______________ __ ____________________________________

Anyway, back to this report, I suggest people read it because the NL article leaves out a lot of interesting information. Like, they say that Nintendo's market share will surpass Microsoft in 2018.

Games Console Market Share in 2017:

Nintendo - 22%
Microsoft - 25%
Sony - Market leader, doesn't give a figure in the report, I'll try find it elsewhere. Edit: It's 53%, which makes sense but wanted to be sure.

And this worrying bit.

The increasing importance of subscriptions to gaming, and users downloading titles rather than purchasing physical copies, shows the shifting sands in the industry.

"We are now approaching a tipping point in consumer behavior, where the digital share of full game sales has started to accelerate away from the transitional norms," Piers Harding-Rolls, head of games research at IHS, said in the report.

"This accelerating picture and the rapid shift to games-as-a-service monetization models is fueling growth in content spending."

Though in NintendoLand, digital sales lag far behind the competition. Thank God. I dread the day gaming is digital only.

Check out this article below as well for more information and graphs about the IHS Report.

Re: Dragon Quest Builders Leads A Switch Takeover Of The Japanese Charts

SLIGEACH_EIRE

Dragon Quest Builders sales are far from impressive. I believe the various PS versions have sold over 1 million units.

Some additional Japanese sales information.

Nintendo Switch Sold Over 3,800,000 Units in Japan in its First Year; Triples the PS4’s Debut Year

https://www.dualshockers.com/nintendo-switch-sales-japan-first-year/

The PS4 also passed a milestone, sales now total over 6.5 million in Japan alone.

The Switch has well over half of the PS4's lifetime sales in Japan and it's done so in a quarter of that time. It's a bit like comparing apples with oranges though.
