King James, otherwise known as the Los Angeles Lakers' player LeBron James, recently held a Q&A on Twitter, and unsurprisingly there were a number of video game questions thrown at the basketball superstar.
One, in particular, that's already received quite a bit of attention on social media is a question from the technology YouTuber SpawnWave - who asked him what system he liked more out of GameCube and the Nintendo 64.
Fans of the 37-year-old will no doubt be interested to know it's...drum roll...the N64 from 1996. It resulted in all sorts of responses from Nintendo fans and wider video game community on the platform. It's worth mentioning how N64 was a better-known system during its time - selling more than 32 million units. In comparison, GameCube sold just over 21 million units.
LeBron also mentioned how he was up for some "Madden", spoke about his favourite movies (Coming 2 America, Godfather and more) and revealed Ken Griffey Jr. was his favourite athlete outside of basketball. He also recently celebrated Liverpool's FA Cup win.
You can check out LeBron's full Q&A with the fans over on Twitter, and see him in action on the Nintendo Switch in NBA 2K22. What system would you pick, if you had to choose between the GameCube and N64? Tell us below.

My world is shattered, but I will find the strength to move on.
I'm willing to bet he only plays video games super casually and has probably hardly touched them since the 90's, hence why the N64 is his preference. Even then, he probably only plays sports games. He probably grew up with NBA Jam and Tecmo Bowl and nowadays maybe plays a few rounds of Call of Duty with the kids or something. Otherwise, I imagine the only games he knows exists are Just Dance, Fortnite, "Pikachu," "the one with that elf guy," and he's probably seen Space Invaders on a few t-shirts before. Also probably prides himself on being able to get through the first maze in Pac-Man.
Is it bad that I have such a shallow perception of athletes?
To be fair, he was probably a bit busy doing the GameCube era just starting his pro career.
As with most conversations regarding favorite systems, our own experience is relative, especially when nostalgia is mixed in.
I still love the GameCube more.
The GameCube was a flop and LeBron doesn't like competition in that department.
Who the cares smdh please leave that bum out of video games. Bad enough sports media all over him, i dont need it to be in my Nintendo news website.
“The King”? What a joke.
I can't even tell you how much I don't care right now, I don't even know why we are discussing him.
The man has impeccable taste.
@Anti-Matter you created a question for yourself which no one asked, then proceeded to not actually answer it properly lol
@Metroidkiller64 couldn’t agree more. I’m in the UK and fortunately he’s barely ever mentioned here but I can imagine it must be mind numbing if you are in the US
Up next on nintendolife, "Does Angela Merkel prefer the Gameboy or the Gameboy Color?" She's given it a great deal of thought and her answer will alter the fabric of reality.
Who even cares at this point.
Must had played NBA Hangtime and got his moves from it.
@Anti-Matter my mistake I thought N64 and GameCube were different gens, hence your nonsensical answer to your own question totally irrelevant.
They both had great libraries (though I preferred PS1 & PS2 during this era).
His answer is very eloquent though. Easily justifies a news article.
Yeah well he also supports China over Taiwan, so I couldn't care less about his backwards ass opinions.
Removed - unconstructive
Yay. A celebrity likes something that a lot of people also like. Thrilling.
Not wrong. 99% of my GC playtime was Melee. It had a few more good games, but the N64 is full of classics.
A so called "celebrity" likes the videogames woo!
@locky-mavo Indeed, I only know him from Space Jam 2
N64 was a hot mess.Full of limitations, expensive cartridges with very low storage, 64 in name, but 32 bit Playstation was superior in some aspects, killed Final Fantasy on Nintendo.
Gamecube on the other hand was like PS Vita. Everything was almost perfect hardware wise but people didn't buy it. Even had RE4 as exclusive.
I struggle with the N64, really wanted it to be a success and when I saw Mario64 for the first time in Blackpool on a display upstairs in HMV that could only output the image in black and white (I think they got hold of a Japanese console prior to release), my mouth was agape. But with the arrival of the PS1 and Ridge Racer and the whole Squaresoft / cartridge debate, we could only hope that Rare would come to to the rescue, which they often did. I still have my GameCube and N64 and I look at the GC library and it's just better than the N64's with much better visuals. N64 was a necessary step on the road but project reality it was not unfortunately, and don't get me started on MK64, rubbish in comparison to the tight handling of the original.
Oh, if anyone would be willing to sell me a Game Boy Player just to stop me endlessly using every filter I can on FB marketplace multiple times a day, then I'd very much appreciate it
Great, now I have to hate N64.
My last post got deleted because:
"Do not post - unless you have something useful to say"
Well that exactly sums up my opinion about this news article. A Tweet about which console a "celeberty likes" is not news.
And to make it a bit more constructive. I am happy for him that he likes the N64. Personally I liked the GameCube more.
N64 had a bad controller, was still very much limited because of the cartidges and had some decent games. The GameCube, still to this day, had the best controller and even better games. But it flopped because it wasn't very popular. And it was the first Nintendo console without really big third party games.
Same for me really. I preferred the N64 (despite its problems) to the PlayStation, whereas the GC era really saw me move over to the PS2.
The N64 was hot trash.
I like how you guys used a pic of Lebron from 2k.
Like he's not real, but a video game character lmao.
@Not_Soos a little yes. He probably doesn't have a lot of time for gaming in his career right now.
I naturally assumed he was more of an iQue player.
He's just salty he wasn't the face of NBA Courtside 2002.
@3rdStrongestMole Angela Merkel would ask the United States first which she should choose.
Which does Xi Jinping prefer? Le Bron could probably tell us...
@cra1g0s Ah good old rose tinted glasses on... Mario Kart SNES sucks to play now, awful slippery control. It wasn't great back in the day either.
MK 64 holds up far better with its tight control... Especially now with the awesome customs mods releasing for it.
@liveswired I’ve been playing MK quite a bit recently on my original SNES and I just prefer the fact that it handles like a go-kart, the slippery nature of the handling and unforgiving corners while you try to take a hundredth of a second off your fastest lap time. Maybe there is an aspect of nostalgia but to me, it’s fast and demanding while the N64 version was slow and laborious.
Just my opinion, but I try to be objective while playing other versions and fun as they may be, they’re just not as challenging technically.
13:57 Ghost Valley 2, Koopa.
I would bet his favorite movie is "Coming to America", not the sequel "Coming 2 America"
@CountDrakeulah got em! 😆 also yeah as someone who grew up on n64, the gamecube is way better
N64 era was imo one of the worst gens for gaming. Every game had to be in 3d while nobody had really figured out yet how to properly make 3d games. Most games were trash tbh.
Gamecube was so much better!
Still have both but GC FTW. N64 is no contest (least fave controller imo)
@liveswired
You are straight up wrong about super mario kart.
PS what was your favorite racing game in 92?
Hmmm....not my king.
Well technically the N64 is the better system. We had Nintendo jump into the realm of 3D 64-bit graphics with a scientifically superior controller . While Sony went to market with a d-pad, Nintendo released an analog joystick. Nintendo also released the Rumble Pak before Sony had rumble in their controllers. The N64 had fast rambus memory so games would load very quickly compared to Playstation. Games like Mario 64, Smash, Mario Kart 64, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Cruis'n series, WCW NWO, 1080, Wave Race, Banjo, Ken Griffey, etc. The console had a great range of exclusives.
Yes, the console had it's pitfalls (like all consoles) in limited storage, textures, blurry AA. But especially at the time it was Nintendo not being afraid to take risks and offer a powerhouse of a home gaming console. I still love the Gamecube, but the N64 is a more nostalgic console for me.
