The NPD results, which cover game sales in the US along with a lot of other data, are now emerging for March. Nintendo published or distributed two notable titles last month, and their results were mixed.
Though the full public data isn't due until 26th April, Axios writer Stephen Totilo has shared the non-mobile gaming chart (covering Steam, PlayStation, Xbox and of course Switch), which is based on dollar sales. It's worth nothing that Nintendo doesn't share its eShop data, so those download sales won't contribute.
Even accounting for the disadvantage of download sales not counting towards this chart, that's an impressive result for Kirby and the Forgotten Land in third. It had strong word of mouth at launch along with positive reviews, and that clearly converted to strong sales in an important market. Pokémon Legends: Arceus and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe are still doing well in the top 10, too.
Also of note, Kirby is also 7th in the 'year to date' chart.
Back to the results for March, Triangle Strategy makes its debut down in 16th place (based purely on boxed copy sales). Though it's not exactly lighting up the chart it's a relatively niche genre, while globally it managed around 800,000 sales in its first two weeks.
So there you have it, some solid results for Switch titles. Let us know what you think, as always, in the comments!

It's great to see the new Kirby game doing well, its a must-play
Marvelous game. My kid loves it
Very glad that Kirby is doing so well.
Pity. Triangle Strategy is such a good game. Deserves to be even more successful than it already has been.
Kirby is great, too. Almost up there with something like Super Mario 3D World. March was a fantastic month for the system.
I've said it 2 times, and I'll say it again.
Kirby only gets W's
It’s a wonderful game from start to finish. Post-game content is very juicy, actually challenging! My Nintendo game of the year so far.
Nice to see Sony and Nintendo dominating both those charts, both releasing great games this year
Yeah triangle strategy did not sell as much as elden ring
clearly it failed...
Nice picture painting...
Elden ring no 1 on every chart
Loving this game. Fairly new to the Kirby franchise (only played crystal shards) everything about it is great. I was worried it would be too easy based on what people were saying and the levels are easy but man the bosses really offer some late game challenges. Can’t wait to see what HAL does with Kirby next.
Good to see Kirby selling well, Forgotten Land is such a fun game and I really enjoy it.
As for Triangle Strategy 800,000 without digital numbers is still very good for a niche genre. Remember games like Valkyria Chronicles 4 struggled to even get to that number which was multi platform. So I say that it's a success.
More people need to experience Triangle Strategy. Currently my GOTY. It’s so good y’all.
Wait, this site has a pink style for Kirby? I love it!
I wish Nintendo would share their digital sales. I want to know exactly how well a game is doing. Physical really is only half the story.
@Rika_Yoshitake Article never says its a failure, nor did it compare it to the sales of Elden Ring. It in fact says it did well for a niche game, selling close over 800k worldwide in only two weeks.
It’s a wonderful Nintendo game ,had a lot of fun with it and my daughter just can’t stop playing it , we just need to beat the last boss in the final colosseum to say we beat the game . Like Roxette said « Common join the joyride » if you have not bought this game already.
Fantastic game, great to see it selling well. Hopefully it continues.
@Ryu_Niiyama I plan on it but I'll wait for a sale. I have a lot of strategy games to beat before I get to it.
Anyway, glad to see Kirby had a good debut. Interested in seeing lifetime sales
Loved Kirby, first Kirby game I’ve really connected with. Beautiful, joyous adventure.
But Triangle Strategy also captivated me! Highly inspired by a Song of Ice and Fire, even down to the “wordiness” 😂 But it’s super good, I hope people don’t sleep on it. People should pick it up too and enjoy the fantastic story and amazing missions.
I love Kirby but the no damage boss runs were annoying as hell and really affected my enjoyment. They just shouldn't have been there at all IMHO.
If they covered Digital Sales, then I guarantee Kirby would be First! I've purchased Kirby for both my Nintendo Switch OLED, and my Son's Nintendo Switch Lite.
PS: F*<! elden ring
@TheBigK I agree 💯
I'm Digital all the way!
@NintendoEternity Why did you do that? your Son can have your account on his Switch but it would mean having to connect to the Internet though. Still at least it saves you paying for the same game twice?
Not bad to see Nintendo have six top 20 year titles and seven for March….
@RubyCarbuncle I love the no hit boss missions. They aren't impossible with upgrades if ppl having trouble and they are optional for beating the game. Also the boss rushes aren't no hit challenges. You can play them however you want
@Kirby_Girl I managed to beat the game 100% and I just didn't like them, they were needlessly annoying to me. Overall though the game was just a delight to play and I would definitely play it again now that I know how to go about those missions.
I have not done any of the post game yet, but so far the game has been easy, but not so easy that it has harmed my enjoyment of the gam
@RubyCarbuncle well not all challenge will definitely appeal to all folks but I'm glad an entry level franchise still kinda had some form for those of us who enjoy it. I can understand it's not for everyone. Seems like all games have something that annoys someone about it.
Yeh, Kirby would definitely be higher if digital sales were included.
Always impressive when exclusives like Kirby are among the top sellers in these charts, mostly dominated by multiplats.
@AndyC_MK111 I didn't mean to imply the game was a flop. But, given the quality of the game, I would have loved to have seen it enjoy a stronger launch in North America.
SMT V's performance was... a little disappointing. It did decently better than previous installments, but it must have cost way more to make as well, and also enjoyed a pretty massive push by Nintendo.
But it is encouraging how many JRPGs are exceeding more than a million units sold now.
@Ryu_Niiyama Preach. Totally exceeded my expectations.
@StarPoint me too, Nintendo put a lot into that game. It's a good one for sure.
Let's actually do the math before we sorry for Square Enix. Triangle Strategy goes for $59.99. Nintendo takes a 30% cut. That leaves about $42 for profit per unit. So times 800,000.... That is 33.6 million dollars. How much did it cost to make the game? 10 million? 15 million? Yeah, I think they will be fine.
@Joe-b I think you mean HAL Labs
@Kirby_Girl um, yah, that's what I meant ...
Well deserved, very good game and a nice fresh sidestep for the character
@RubyCarbuncle I have over 32 M Rated games on my Account. And I have OCD with my Save files and people touching it lol.
Besides, I will support Nintendo until I Die! Even it means double dipping!
@NintendoEternity Ahh no worries. I'm sort of like that myself.
