The highly praised Shadowrun Trilogy - based on the cyberpunk fantasy tabletop RPG - has been announced for Switch.
It's comprised of the PC releases Shadowrun Returns, Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Director's Cut and Shadowrun: Hong Kong - Extended Edition, and will launch on the system in 2022. More information will be shared next year. For now, here's a brief rundown:
"As a Shadowrunner mercenary, players will explore a dystopian future where magic has reawakened and fantasy creatures have come back to life. Immersive branching narratives, skill-based character growth and gripping turn-based tactical combat await in Shadowrun Trilogy"
Based on the Switch eShop listing, it seems like you'll be able to purchase each of these titles individually. Will you be checking out this series when it lands on the Switch? Tell us down in the comments.

Are these all PC games or were these on the SNES and Mega Drive originally?
Man, for a second I thought the original Data East RPG was getting a release. But I love Shadowrun (loved the 360 game!) so I'll grab this.
@brandonbwii this is the rebooted trilogy of PC games. I have these on GOG but never got round to playing them. Excited to give them a shot on Switch though.
Massively controversial opinion though; Shadowrun on Xbox 360 is incredible.
@GrailUK just realised what you said - yessss it’s so good!
@brandonbwii I think these three were new games in the series, made only for pc, and these games are not a remake.
@brandonbwii Yeah these are ports of the PC versions released a few years ago. Really fun Strategy RPGs, and I think I'll be double dipping on these.
This was the best surprise of the Direct for me. I love Shadowrun and never played these. Can't wait.
Always wanted to give them a try but they are so heavily discounted on pc ALL the time it would need to be cheap.
If you love tabletop games, RPGs and/or turn-based combat, then you need to try those games - they’re beyond awesome. I’ve beaten one of Shadowrun games on my iPad five years ago and now I’m stoked to revisit all three installments on my Switch!
I was hoping for the original SNES game being part of this.
Anyway I'm surprised these are RPG's cause I could have sworn there was a first person shooter called Shadowrun for Xbox 360.
I have played this on Android phone long ago. The first & the second. But I haven't played the third, which is the Hong Kong one. The 1st and 2nd are nice games, that is if you're into xcom tactical Rpg style of play.
Not going to double dip, PC versions are superior with their custom content. Finished Dragonfall today coincidentally.
Amazing! Shadowrun Dragonfall is one of the best tactical RPGs of the last decade.
Dragonfall and Hong Kong are the bigger and better games, but Shadowrun Returns is a great introduction to CRPGs as it has a fairly short length and easily management mechanics but still tells a cool little story with great atmosphere.
Think we'll see the SNES one make a cheeky appearance on NSO?
I was confused when they called it a trilogy. I honestly didn't know there were three of them. I knew about SNES and Genesis versions. Never actually played any of them though. Maybe it's time I did.
I loved Shadowrun for Genesis and heard these ones were really good, so I’m looking forward to these.
I've been hoping for this, ever since it was removed from mobile devices. Can't wait
This brings back memories...what a game in back the day:

I got Syndicate for free from GoG couple weeks ago. Need to set time aside to really get into it.
So sad this was so overlooked because the Direct had too many great announcements, but this was definitively one of the highlights for me.
Especially Dragonfall is one the best rpg-experiences I had in the last ten years. Love the atmosphere of Cyberpunk-Berlin.
Each game is kinda short for an rpg, but as a whole the trilogy will give you a typical 60 - 80 hour rpg experience. Oh, and I just have to mention how much better this is compared to CDProjects dishonest *****.
I believe I own all of these on PC as well, but I'm not against grabbing all three of them again... if for the right price.
The Snes Shadowrun is one of my favourite games ever and managed to finish it in recent years. For many years I couldn’t beat the Jester Spirit when he tells you to guess his name, turns out the Vampire lies to you and gives you his wrong name. Using the stake on the Vampire a few more times got you the Jesters correct name Laughlin and killing the Vampire got you a huge XP boost
The final level Drake Towers was impossibly hard even with 4 runners including the Orc, Dwarf and Kitsune and the last boss turned into a Dragon. I eventually cheated using the matchbox trick(The Matchbox takes you to a secret room with all these woman who heal you and give you every weapon)
@K1LLEGAL It was Overwatch ahead of it's time.
Hopefully they'll increase the text size, I played one of these on my phone and the text ear painfully small.

These are solid games, very enjoyable. I've been playing them on my Nvidia Shield via Now. Hopefully they will bring Battletech across too as that is a fantastic rendition of the TT game, with solid mechanics added to flesh out mech size. Loved those Fasa IP's growing up.
Got them for free through the Epic Games store a while back, I'll wait and play them on my Steam Deck when I get it. I'm dramatically winding down my Switch game purchases in preparation for the Steam Deck.
This was one of the highlights of the Direct, as far as I'm concerned. Hopefully, we'll get a physical release too.
So these are the succesors of the SNES Shadowrun? I've never heard of them but it looks great. They remind me of the early Fallout games.
I would prefer the old Super NES and Sega Genesis Shadowrun but these will do.
These are all great tactical RPGs pn PC. I finished Returns and Dragonfall a while back but never quite finished Hong Kong - just kind of fell off gaming on my PC.
I think as someone else said they're all great entry points for CRPGs. The campaigns are mostly straightforward and can be completed in less than 20 hours. But there's lots of great writing and characters, plus solid character customization.
I probably won't rebuy on Switch and I would also be concerned about text size, which was even small on PC, but I'm glad to see these games find new life. I'd love to see Harebrained return to the universe.
On the related note, it would be cool to see the SNES and Genesis games return as well. I would guess there are some tricky licensing issues involved with both.
I think a lot of people will make the mistake of sleeping on this. As for me, I’m grabbing it if there’s a physical. Enjoyed the first on PC, and apparently the next two are much better.
@brandonbwii there were, in fact, two SR games for the platforms you mentioned. Fairly different (my favorite is the Genesis version). This collection is from Steam, though the first two did hit mobile/tablets for a time.
I've only played the first but it's really fun, and I'm pretty stoked for this. I enjoyed the heck out out of Baldurs Gate on Switch.
This was one of the big surprise announcements for me. I absolutely love Shadowrun. Played it P&P years ago when I was younger when it first came out. Loved how true to the game the SNES and Genesis versions were (especially SNES in my opinion). I'll be getting these for sure. Another personal favorite announcement was the Actraiser remaster!
As an aside, I've watched several YouTuber reaction videos to the Direct since it aired (I love watching Nintendo fans reacting to Nintendo Directs and news like this...its so wholesome!), and it just makes me want to cry whenever the vast majority of them go "Shadowrun? What's that? Who cares?" and when pretty much the same for Actraiser "No idea what this is!" comments. I recognized Actraiser the moment the music started and the camera started swirling down to the land. Guess I'm just too old a gamer these days. lol
@Shadow_Dancer SNES shadowrun was one of my favorites too. The secret to the Volcano, was to max out invisibility and freeze. You'd go invisible to deal with most encounters and then you'd need to freeze the dragon at the end.
Tabletop RPG versions are superior, if you’ve never tried them you’re missing out on a world of fun that gaming will always be reaching for, but never quite achieve. The only Shadowrun I tried was the SNES version but I lost interest in it.
I been waiting for this to come to the switch. I'm surprised it has taken them soo long.
I only played Shadowrun Returns back in the day on PC and enjoyed it quite a lot. Never got round to play the sequels/expansions so will be glad to play through them on Switch. I hope they run well. They should as these are not super demanding games, but I really hope they don't botch them. I enjoyed the soundtrack in Returns in particular.
I can't say I know much about the series despite hearing of it. I am intrigued
Ive been a Shadowrun fan since it was introduced in 1989. I played the pen and paper version. I later played the video game on the Sega Genesis.
Later I discovered the go fund me for the Shadowrun Returns and contributed to that.I played it on PC until lightning fried my system.
So seeing this article makes me happy.
eShop common Nintendo....you can do alot better here.....
I miss Jake Armitage from the SNES version lol--One of the best surprise games I played from a friend's recommendation. I knew of the Genesis version but not of these. Maybe we'll get lucky and see the SNES and Genesis versions eventually...
Had these on steam for years but never really got in to them even though I love the aesthetic and lore. Switch seems like the perfect console to finally sink my teeth in to this series so I'll definitely be picking them up.
Never played these so I will add them to the pile.
@MeloMan
