Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (19th October)

Reztobi

To be fair i haven't played my Switch for a while, not for lack of games though, i actually have a ton of games, quite a few i haven't even played. I'll get back to it after my current adventure elsewhere.

Right now I'm fully invested in Elden Ring. Started a new play through after getting the DLC and oh boy am i loving it.

On that note i would absolutely LOVE to see more FromSoft games on the Switch, Dark Souls 1 is legitimately one of my favourite ports on the Switch alongside Witcher 3, Skyrim and Hogwarts Legacy, im sure if Witcher 3 can work good on the Switch, DS3 and possibly Sekiro would be fine, hopefully we get Elden Ring on the Switch 2 in the same way we got Skyrim on the Switch when that came out.

Re: Bandai Namco Reportedly Cancels Nintendo-Commissioned Project

Reztobi

This is unfortunate and the practice used to force people out is disgusting, but in terms of the scaling back, from a business perspective, its unfortunate but understandable in todays gaming landscape.

The reality is that this current trend of 5-8 year development cycle per game is simply unsustainable for any business to maintain. I can see going forward, the entire industry downsizing, technology regression back to the 8th generation and projects being scaled back from 5-8 years to to develop a single AAA video game, down to 2-3 years (which is what it should be).

I think in the coming months, we're going to see other companies doing similar things, scaling projects back, downsizing their workforce and scaling their technology back one generation.

As many have said, we are in the era of diminishing returns. Companies now have to scale back if they want to survive this new era.

Re: The Math Adds Up, The Nintendo Switch Really Does Have The Best Games

Reztobi

@Teksetter you can't truly believe that everyone has the same opinion of whats good and what isn't?

You should go and train yourself in recognising that video games are subjective, and from my subjective opinion, you play an awful lot if shovelware games, if you own over 400 physical games that you consider "must own".

Re: Ubisoft's Disastrous 2024 May Lead To The Company Going Private

Reztobi

I actually don't mind a lot of their games, i think they can bounce back but the thing that seriously hurt them was telling gamers they need to get use to not owning games, then have the audacity to charge 70+ dollars for those games.

It doesn't help that AC Shadows is shaping up to be an offensive mess of a game.

They needed a little kicking to remind them who pays their bills.

Re: The Math Adds Up, The Nintendo Switch Really Does Have The Best Games

Reztobi

This is funny because these stats are extremely misleading.

Those 39 games that score 90+ and around 100 games that would score 85+ are literally all the games worth owning on the Switch, everything else is shovelware games and bad indie games.

Basically the amount of games worth owning is around 1% of the amount of games on the Switch.

140 games is a lot though, but still, to have so much junk is ridiculous.

Re: Analyst Is Certain Nintendo Will Win Its Lawsuit Against Palworld Developer

Reztobi

@HeadPirate i think you're mistaken maybe, i don't have a strong opinion on this at all, you might be responding to the wrong person, i just said that Palworld CEO asked his workers to copy Nintendo. Also just on that topic, do you seriously believe someone would do a like for like copy of something else when instructed too? 😂😂

Because honestly if thats something you genuinely believe, thats sort of hilarious, like would you like for like copy someone's homework then? Come on man, nobody would do that even when instructed to copy. 😂

Aside from that i don't care about this game, never played it and i don't plan too, but here let me educate you a bit about something.

Pokémon is very popular in Japan, Palworld, is very similar to Pokémon and is potentially going to launch on the PS5 soon, PS5 is Nintendo's ONLY competition in Japan as far as home consoles are concerned. There's a connection between this lawsuit against PocketPair and Palworlds potential launch on the PS5.

The timing of the lawsuit is certainly not a coincidence.

Re: Analyst Is Certain Nintendo Will Win Its Lawsuit Against Palworld Developer

Reztobi

@HeadPirate not sure why you mentioned me, all i said is that the CEO literally instructed former employees to to copy Pokémon.

There's nothing at all wrong with that, but do you think Nintendo, a very Litigious organisation would take this to court after over half a year, if they were not legally prepared?

Think about it, they're not gonna read your comment and say "oh well theres nothing we can do here, best pack up and move on 😂".

We have literally no idea what the lawsuit is about, it could be anything. You're just stabbing in the dark with these guesses.

But why bother stabbing at all, you know damn well Nintendo are prepared and you know damn well they rarely lose legally, why bother to guess? It's just gonna make you look silly when the lawsuit does eventually drop, we get the details and it turns out that they CAN sue for that stuff, or it turns out they're suing for other reasons.

You just don't know, but why bet against one of the biggest court case winners in business history? 😂

Re: Palworld Developer Responds To Nintendo Lawsuit

Reztobi

The only reason this is happening now is because this game isn't coming on the Switch for some ridiculous reason.

If they approached Nintendo with a deal to put this on the Switch, it would have been fine, i assume Sony (as usual) paid extra to make sure that doesn't happen.

Sony have been known to do this, game was about to drop on PS5 and i assume that Sony being Sony, made sure to lock these dudes into timed exclusive deals.

They did same with Mh World, Black Myth Wukong, Genshin Impact and a lot more, they do it a lot with DLC too.

I assume they pulled the same tactics with this game and Nintendo decided to throw a spanner in the works.

Re: Talking Point: What Game Should Be 'Switch 2's 'Skyrim Moment'?

Reztobi

The obvious answer is Elden Ring here, already leading the pack in terms of "game of the decade" although i think that will change towards the end of the decade, i still imagine that ER will be within the top 5 "best games of the decade". Basically the same position that Skyrim was in during the last decade.

Putting this on the Switch 2 will be as close as we could possibly get to a Skyrim Moment, in this age of handheld PCs like Steam deck.

Re: Talking Point: What Game Should Be 'Switch 2's 'Skyrim Moment'?

Reztobi

@QuickSilver88 you do realise that Starfield is a Xbox console exclusive? Right? You do realise that Bethesda are now owned by Microsoft and it's very unlikely that the Switch are going to get any of those games.

Just because Microsoft gave us Ori and the blind forest on the Switch, doesn't mean Halo was next.

@naxuu same applies to you but for Sony. Alan Wake would be fine but its a mediocre level game, at best an 8 out of 10 and definitely not going to give that "Skyrim moment". In fact id go as far as to say putting a relatively unknown game like AW2 on the Switch 2 would sooner garner puzzled looks of "wdf is this game" rather than another "Skyrim moment".

Re: Rumour: Game Developers Supposedly Told Not To Expect Switch "Successor" In Current Financial Year

Reztobi

@MjJmediablogger i 100% agree with this, Nintendo are doing typical Nintendo things, i can see it coming.

If the Switch drops in 2026, it'll be in direct sales competition with Sony and Microsoft again and like you say, that isn't a position Nintendo will want to be in.

If I'm honest i think that small Window they do have will start to get much smaller even next year, by end of 2026 the PS5 will be 6 years old, Sony could easily announce a PS6 the same day that Nintendo's next console goes on sale, that would be an absolute disaster for Nintendo.

Re: 'The Zelda Effect' Causes Game Sales To Drop This May (Europe)

Reztobi

Cost of living is why, has nothing to do with the types of games or quality of games, people just can't afford to spend money on video games as much because doing so may mean not eating food for an entire day, it really isn't that hard to figure out.

Video games is just not on anyone's priorities list right now, in fact entertainment in general. Global conflicts kicking off left right and centre, companies and jobs closing down left right and centre, cost of EVERY SINGLE ITEM known to man is going up and y'all talking about video game sales.

We're living in the most uncertain times since just before WW2 and y'all talking about video game sales.... Just let that sink in for one moment. 😒.

Re: Silksong Is "Not In Dev Hell" According To Playtester

Reztobi

Considering entire AAA games have been announced and released within the time period since we heard about Silksong and furthermore, whole indie projects with smaller teams have been announced and released within said time frame, then it's fairly safe to assume that something went wrong somewhere.

We're not privy to that information and that's fine but it doesn't take a genius to figure out.

Re: Xbox's Phil Spencer Reiterates Plan To Put "More Of Our Games On More Platforms"

Reztobi

I can see what Microsoft are trying to do here, they're trying to create a Netflix for video games the only problem is, it's been nearly 10 years and it hasn't worked at all and in fact it's actually costing Microsoft billions upon billions.

I doubt Activision Blizzard is worth even half of what it was when Microsoft purchased them. With all the layoffs and what happened to Bethesda recently (many of the studios under Bethesda ownership got axes by Microsoft), I would be willing to bet money that Activision Blizzard is not far off the same fate.

I think this approach is backfiring on Microsoft in a big way and I think the money people at the top of Microsoft are starting to get fed up (probably why we saw a shake up at Bethesda).

As a business, Microsoft should license what they have to other developers, do the publicity and marketing behind said games and outside of that, Microsoft needs to exit video gaming. Just become a publisher and leave everything else alone.

Re: Xbox's Phil Spencer Reiterates Plan To Put "More Of Our Games On More Platforms"

Reztobi

@jedgamesguy I don't think Sony and Microsoft are doing it the same way, Sony are putting some of their games on PC and not really putting stuff on other consoles. Most research indicates that people tend to own a PC along with a console to play games on.

Microsoft are making all of their games available elsewhere and that includes other consoles too.

Sony are not handing the keys to the castle out, but they are allowing free tours, Microsoft on the other hand gets visitors to sign a deed actually owning the damn house.

Re: Talking Point: How Do You Define 'Retro'?

Reztobi

I prefer to go by years because games made at the start of one generation can be vastly different from games made towards the end.

Like for example, Oblivion is 100% retro but Skyrim really isn't, both were released on the same console but were made using different game engines.

I would say about 15-20 years is a good enough time frame to say it's retro.

Re: Microsoft Lays Off 1,900 Xbox, Bethesda And Activision Blizzard Employees

Reztobi

Okay so now we just boycott Microsoft until their entire gaming division dies off, honestly they are not even needed in the industry, Nintendo and Sony are enough.

Microsoft gaming division should die a slow and painful death, a call to action is needed, boycott them, it'll hurt others working for them to begin with but long term, it will cut the cancer out of our industry. It will greatly benefit everyone, even those it hurts to begin with.

Cutting cancer out is never easy, its always painful and you always lose a piece of yourself in the process (trust me i would know), but it's very necessary for continued survival.

We gamers need to cut the cancer that is Microsoft, out of our industry for good. This is a call to action, if you are unhappy, then speak with your wallet because its the only language Microsoft understands.

Re: 8% Of Developers Are Apparently Working On Games For Switch's Successor

Reztobi

@Ryu_Niiyama i get you, I think if im honest, a lot of that was fake news from Sony bot accounts, i don't think people understand how competitive and spiteful Sony are, just look at the Spiderman situation with Marvel for reference. Or paying Capcom to keep MH World off the Xbox in Asia, but they kicking up a fuss when Xbox buys studios for exclusives.

I can 100% see Sony circulating fake news articles about one of their main competitors, to hurt system sales. People don't realise how sneaky Sony actually are.

Re: Microsoft: ActiBlizz Acquisition Gives Xbox A Chance To Be A "Good Publisher" On All Platforms

Reztobi

Unfortunately Microsofts end game seems to be industry takeover. If those leaked documents from September last year are anything to go by, luckily it seems many organisations are holding firm, Microsoft have actively been trying to purchase a lot a ton of other studios and unfortunately with the behemoth that Microsoft is, i have a terrible feeling that it's really only a matter of time before Microsoft buys everything in the industry.

Re: EA Sports FC 24 Is The Top Game For December '23 As Switch Settles In Behind PS5 (UK)

Reztobi

@LikelySatan @SBandy1 @Skunkfish

Why don't you kids try searching the Internet.

I get my information right from Nintendo.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cnbc.com/amp/2023/05/09/nintendo-full-year-earnings-2023-switch-sales-plunge-22percent.html

I swear, some kids need their hands held...

https://www.trustedreviews.com/news/switch-sales-overtake-game-boy-but-nintendo-did-not-have-a-good-2022-4300452

As of end of 2022 Nintendo sold 122.5m console. As of end of 2023, Nintendo is now sitting on 132.4m consoles sold.

In 2023 they sold less than 10m console, now i will admit that Microsoft didn't outsell them, Xbox got 8m units for the year of 2023.

But Switch sales are still down 22%.

Re: EA Sports FC 24 Is The Top Game For December '23 As Switch Settles In Behind PS5 (UK)

Reztobi

@KBuckley27 it's beyond dumb actually, because globally the Switch is actually behind both Xbox and Sony, but certain Nintendo centric publications will cherry pick which regions they show, to give this false impression.

But in reality, in terms of global sales, the Switch sales were down a whole 23% in 2023 and are expected to be down by as much as 50% this year.

But Nintendo life will show us Switch sales in some village somewhere in Japan being higher than PS5 and Xbox and use that as a way to say "oh look, no new console needed, because the Switch is still flying off the shelves"...

And unfortunately, so many of the shills who frequently come here will all lick up that news like ice cream, it's so sad actually.

Re: 'Switch 2' Will Be An Iterative Evolution And Will Cost $400, Predicts Analyst

Reztobi

Unfortunately i think the price is about right, as much as i hate yo admit it, but this seems to be the case across the board for everything, so i doubt the Switch 2 will be any different.

In terms of release date, they need to drop the Switch 2 this year at the latest, waiting any longer and they run the risk of having to compete directly with Sony's next machine, i know a lot of people like to make fantasy claims that Nintendo isn't competing with Sony, but try telling that to mothers who have to choose between the newest PlayStation or newest Nintendo for their teenage boys for Christmas.

Theres a good reason why Nintendo doesn't want that smoke, even as a Nintendo fan i agree, it isn't worth it.

Re: Talking Point: Could Nintendo Go Another Year Without A Switch Successor?

Reztobi

@guardianoftime as cute as this opinion is, it's lacking any business sense, and Nintendo are a business first. Nintendo hardware sales are now globally behind Xbox, in fact global sales have fallen over 20% in 2023, don't get fooled by the Japanese sales charts, Japan is one region and as a market is smaller than both North America and Europe.

Nintendo need a new piece of hardware soon, if that hurts your pocket, then you need to suck it up buttercup, because it's life.

Re: Talking Point: Could Nintendo Go Another Year Without A Switch Successor?

Reztobi

To be fair, im a bit scared for Nintendo to release their next console, if it has some silly gimmick attached to it, imagine the let down if they decide that the next Switch is gonna be a VR Switch.

As fun as that would be, VR isn't mainstream, Sony barely managed 6m VR headset sales on a PS4 install base of 100m, VR is a gimmick, no matter what anyone tries to pretend otherwise, if Nintendo makes a VR machine with no ability to play on TV, they'll do a Wii U again.

Who knows though, maybe Nintendo wont throw up a gimmick, god willing they do not.they haven't had a good track record though, Nintendo loves to lean into a gimmick for their machines.

DS with split screen
Wii with motion control
3ds with 3D
Wii U with a tablet
Now the Switch which switches from TV to handheld.

Some of these worked, some did not, its a mixed bag of success. Not worth the risk imo, especially as they no longer have a separate hand held division to offset potential loses.

Re: Feature: Inside The Mind Of A Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Speedrunner

Reztobi

@TruthisRare lmfao was about to say exactly this, i might come back to it in a few years to flesh it out more, i spent 300 hours on BOTW and i could barely manage 30 on TOTK.

To be fair, thats probably because they took everything i disliked in BOTW and doubled down on all that, i know funky build it yourself adventure and minimal story/narrative is some people's cup of tea, but not mine.

Re: Mailbox: Remakes, Rewinds, Elden Rings - Nintendo Life Letters (Holiday Edition)

Reztobi

I don't think we will get another game from FromSoft anytime soon, if at all, i might be mistaken but from my knowledge, FromSoft put Dark Souls 1 on the Switch to gauge interest in their games. From what i understand, it didn't go well.

Unfortunately the game was broken on release (their fault) and it didn't review well, by the time they fixed it, hype had died down and nobody was willing to give it another chance (our fault).

We could of easily had the Dark Souls collection on here, 1, 2 and 3, all are playable on a modded Switch, but unfortunately it doesn't look like we'll get anything else from FromSoft anytime soon, if we do it won't be one of their bigger games.

Any chance of Elden Ring is a pipe dream at best.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch DLC & Expansions

Reztobi

Realistically, if you want to go off the number of hours you can sink into a DLC, then really there's only 3 games with DLC big enough to purchase.

Witcher 3 - Blood and Wine alone gives you 30-40 additional hours and Hearts of Stone gives around 15-20. You're not wrong when i call it the gold standard of DLC, it really is.

Monster Hunter Rise - Sunbreak adds on more hours of content than any other DLC on this list.

Skyrim - in terms of hours of content added to a DLC on an already existing game thats available on the Switch, Skyrim does its job nicely, the game is now sold with the DLC too, so you're not even paying extra, theres 3 DLCs, giving around a additional 50 hours of content, possibly more.

Honorable mention for me is BOTW, adds on a nice amount of content, just the content added is a bit lacklustre and boring.

Another honorable mention is Dark Souls 1, i would actually rank this on a list, but im too mad at FromSoft for abandoning Nintendo, i can't place them there.

Re: Japanese Charts: Pikmin 4 Passes One Million Physical Sales

Reztobi

@rockodoodle globally the Switch is actually behind even the Xbox.

Don't get confused by the Japanese only charts, unfortunately it won't give you a clear picture of whats going on, the Switch has been behind in global sales for a good while now, the Switch 2 is long over due.

Re: The Game Awards GOTY For 2023 Is Baldur's Gate 3

Reztobi

@Znake lmao i played both...

BG3 deserved the win by a WIDE margin, Totk wasn't bad but it felt too similar to BOTW to me, i spent nearly 300 hours on BOTW, was hard for me to play Totk for more than 80 hours.

I played both, BG3 deserves the win and honestly, it isn't really close, theres a reason why TOTK won only 1 award.

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Wins Best Action/Adventure Game At TGA 2023

Reztobi

@Tober a new game engine?

Where did you dig that crock of bs from? Care to share your information? Who told you that TOTK was built using a different game engine?

😂.

Also thanks, its good to know my game development expertise being noticed.

Now run along and show me your evidence that TOTK was developed using a different game engine.

Same map
mostly same items
Mostly same NPCs
same enemies
Exactly the same gameplay with a few additions
Exactly the same graphics
Exactly the same art style.

But yes, its not 80% the same.

Its closer to 90%... thanks for bringing that to my attention.

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Wins Best Action/Adventure Game At TGA 2023

Reztobi

@Scarmucci your opinion here is very admirable, standing strong by your Zelda, its very cute and i commend you for it.

But if you are in any way involved with game development, you can see what Nintendo did here, they did exactly what Ubisoft does every time they make a "new" Assassins Creed game.

They use 80% of existing assets to make said game, so even though they add a few bits here and there to make it feel new, you're basically playing the same game from 2 years previous.

Only issue here is that Nintendo waited 6 years to drop DLC or "new game" as you call it. If you actually understand game development and how these tjings work, it's very easy to see why Nintendo won only 1 award, it didn't deserve anything.
