How important is COD to Nintendo I wonder...People typically buy a Nintendo console to play Nintendo games like Zelda, Mario, Pokemon. And people who play COD already have a device to play it on, be it a PC, PS, or Xbox. It's good for people who only have a Switch and want to play COD, but a the overlap between COD fans and Nintendo fans is likely slim.
I wonder how appealing COD is on the Switch. Most people who play these games already have their PS4/5 or Xbox to play it on. Unless they make a COD for the Switch like MH: Rise, would their efforts be worth it?
@UltimateOtaku91 It didn't even get the 2.5D treatment, in the trailer the character sprites look like they were upscaled on an emulator. Disappointing for sure, but what can you do.
Glad they finally accepted the game was leaked and just made it official.
To anyone who hasn't played it, I highly recommend this one, especially if you like strategy RPGs. Story is excellent, but the gameplay is so fun, with so many options for your units. I hope this means Final Fantasy Tactics is close to getting a remaster as well!
@sanderev I understand this back when link cables were a thing but just feels outdated as a concept with the ease of trading over internet. Just feels pointless. Also those pokemon that you need to trade to evolve just drives me nuts. The reason why I could never use Scizor despite loving the Pokemon, cause I have no one to trade with.
@SwitchVogel I agree so much! It's one of my favourite JRPGs across all systems, massively underrated. Glad at least some more people are finally going to try it. Only took the 3DS eshop to close down lol
There's something oddly comforting knowing that Square hasn't changed its approach to remastering games at all. Still makes it a bit disappointing though.
The Chrono Trigger Steam release was mostly negatively reviewed at first before they spent the following year updating the game. That port was even worse because it didn't have the classic 16-bit look as an option on launch hahaha
I got curious and watched the remaster OST trailer Square released, and some of the tracks sound quite different. Scars of Time, Sailing and Termina were featured, and they all sound very different (and imo not as good).
Edit: To be clear, there was no mention of the these tracks being in-game, it's just a trailer highlighting some arranged music.
I didn't know about the game not having the original music. It may sound silly, but that's a bit of a deal breaker for me. The OST was my favourite part of this game. I may still get it to support the franchise, but might get it on Steam cause modders will fix this.
@Arawn93 You make a pretty good point, but you DO have to consider other people's feelings. It's just how it is. I don't believe the office is a suitable place for making vulgar jokes, do that with your friends or colleagues AFTER work hours. Some of my workmates were very cool with vulgar jokes, but others would not be.
Nothing wrong with having personal preferences or limits. The office is a place of work first, not a social gathering.
You are right about wanting bosses to praise you though. Praise isn't needed when you are getting to paid to do good work. But some people need it, so it's up to the leaders to figure out how to best use their employees.
The appeal of the GWS kind of goes down if we need the NS online to play it. If that service was worth the money I wouldn't mind, but that's not the case.
It's a cool feature and made it easier to fill out the Pokedex and get those version exclusive Pokemon. This is the way I guess xD
2 games in 1 year? That's interesting, even COD and Assassin's Creed stuck to 1 a year at peak production.
Also, a new generation is awesome, but I was kind of hoping they would stick with the "Legends" theme but maybe with the Black/White legends. We still have very little backstory about the original dragon that split into the 3 legends in gen 5.
Or a Legends game about Rayquaza or give Gen 6 another shot with a game about Zygarde
It's hard to argue cause uploading OSTs isn't really transformative work, which is a keyword in the copyright rules. The copyright rules need changing to prevent big corps from taking advantage of it. But the big corps are probably the ones making the rules in the first place. No reason for Nintendo music not to be on Spotify, almost every major game company has at least some of their catalog on there.
I hope Japanese companies are safe and continue to be multi-platform. I find the Switch perfectly suited to play JRPGs as most of them don't need powerful hardware and I can sneak in 30 minute sessions every now and then.
I would never have played SMT V as much as I have if it wasn't on Switch.
YouTube really needs to fix its copyright system. But they keep caving in to corporate demands. The same thing happened to a YouTuber who made reviews about anime, Toei Animation got all his videos taken off the platform. YouTube is screwing over it's own users as usual.
I know that "Nintendo attacks Youtuber" is an enticing story, but let's not forget the role of YouTube here and how it's their OWN copyright system that is causing these issues. If YouTube fixed their own platform, these issues would be far less common. So basically, don't be mad at just Nintendo, be mad at YouTube as well
@Bunkerneath That's true but that group will continue to dwindle over time. It's already a small group. But let's enjoy physical copies while we have them. Love me some discs and cartridges!
It's no Ace Attorney, but worth a try if you like visual novels. The main character is such a jerk though. Not in a funny way. In an "I want to punch you" way.
@Grch I can't tell if you're being sarcastic but Nintendo just doesn't want people to use their copyrighted property. Nothing wrong with being inspired.
There's gotta be a better way than single-use vouchers. What if you need to buy a new Switch? Or temporarily delete the game? Why not have it be tied to the Nintendo account instead?
@CurryPowderKeg79 It's not fair to the developers to say that making DLC is withholding content. The producer has mentioned in the past that each character takes about 4 months of work to do. They are genuinely putting a lot of effort into each character. That's why all fighting games have paid DLC in the first place. More money earned = more character per game.
@Cobalt If you want to talk GOTY, then it was only last year that Zelda won. And Smash Bros. will be a contender for next year. I know it's hard to give Nintendo credit. They are the worst developers ever and always ruin everything.
But I think it's unfair to put a negative spin on this particular piece of news. It's amazing that Smash Bros. has sold over 2 million in Japan alone. The Switch is also selling great. This is all good news. Literally nothing wrong with it.
This is an awful situation. Ronaldo has already been dropped from his national team. Kind of random to drop your best player like that if these allegations really are baseless.
I don't know how EA can suddenly change the cover now. I guess moving forward all new copies of the game can cut Ronaldo. But they can't do anything about the millions already on the market. It won't be fair to diss EA over this.
@Cobalt This isn't a remake. It's being upscaled. A remake would imply redoing the game from scratch like FF7 Remake. This won't even be on the same level as the Crash and Spyro trilogies.
If so many people didn't download the app or purchase online, Nintendo would be forced to make it better. There's no reason to not have voice chat built-in to the system.
@jcvandan Can't go wrong with Hyper Light. Every aspect of the game is better. The world, music, combat, story, you name it. Hyper Light is 100% a must-buy if you like indies.
@Frendo To be fair, this game did get an e3 trailer from Sony. Not during the conference though, it was uploaded to YouTube.
This is such a weird situation. There's a bit more to this than we can see, naturally. On one hand, we just got two indie presentations full of awesome new games. Then you have these guys not getting any support at all. A short trailer during one of these presentations would've made them a bit happier. Heck, even a retweet like they suggested would've been okay.
A shame console can't provide free cloud storage like Steam. But oh well, at least Nintendo is actually implementing it now. Should've been a feature since the Wii U.
With so many characters in this game, it is easy to take it for granted the lengths they had to go to get some of them. I mean come on, who else can say that their game has Cloud, Mario, Sonic, Pac-Man and Jigglypuff fighting to the death. Smash is an achievement for gaming, not just Nintendo. Nice to see some fans bring that to light here.
You would think Octopath's success would encourage Square to invest more in these types of RPGs. I guess they need more of our money to be sure? Okay then...
@River3636 @superguy123 This is a relatively shorter game like Chrono Trigger. You can beat in about 20ish hours, maybe even less. It's a focused game without filler garbage sidequests. Everything in it serves the plot.
Nintendo has to make this come true. PS4 allows you to play free-to-play games without PS Plus. This also extends to MMOs like FFXIV. It would be a huge mistake if Nintendo made people pay to play Fortnite. Defeating the whole point of free-to-play.
A shame they had to go through that. All fan bases are like this which really sucks. We should be appreciating the people who make our hobby possible.
That being said, the NDS is still one of the best systems for JRPG fans. In fact, I would say it is a must have if you love JRPGs (Well, the 3DS is better since you can play everything on it). So many excellent JRPGs: original, sequels and remakes.
I wonder what Sony has to lose with cross-play here. Is there online co-op or something? Isn't it just, make a game and then share it. In that case having cross-play would benefit Sony as it means they're players have access to more levels.
I wonder why they thought Pokemon GO needed IVs? I was kind of hoping they would get rid of them in the main games too. Hidden stats shouldn't be a thing, especially ones you have to spend hours to get "perfect".
So many cookie-cutter JRPGs nowadays. No doubt there are excellent releases every now and then, but quality doesn't seem to be as consistent as PS1/PS2 days. Back then even the safer RPGs were still really good games.
The thing is, for DQXI it was more than just the translation. They added voice-acting and even re-did cutscenes so the lips would sync up. Add to that the other quality of life changes they made such as the run button, a hard mode etc. and you can see why it's taken a long time. But I have no problem waiting because they're actually taking the time to ensure this game is a hit in the West.
@ValhallaOutcast Not sure about Smash, but I know Pokemon in particular has a large fanbase that only plays Pokemon. Part of it has to do with the competitive scene and part of it is hardcore Pokemon fans. However, I don't think Let's Go will have as much of a push as Generation 8 will eventually.

@Rykdrew To me it just sounds like a Switch isn't the console for you. I get it though, I'd pick a PS5 over a Switch anyday just for Final Fantasy.
