I prefer physical and easily buy several games per month. I'll say that 5 or 6 of those purchases this year have been day one releases. The rest have been released within the last year or so and discounted. I buy lots of digital too since that's the only way you can get some games (particularly on PC) I haven't bought nor will I ever buy any Key Card games. I do see my habits changing though. I'm just not excited about new releases anymore. Not even Prime 4, sadly. TOTK was the last game I was truly hyped about. Plus, I've come to realize that I already have a backlog I'll never complete. It just seems wasteful to add to the pile at this point.
No. Gaming is "me time" & I can't stand when someone else tries to talk to me while I'm playing. It's distracting & my brain can only handle so much at once. I wish Nintendo would have put this energy into a revival of Miiverse and/or added some sort of achievement system like the one Microsoft has had for TWENTY YEARS.
Being able to hide trash titles/developers on the shop should be an option. They can still peddle their wares, we just have the option not to look at them. Being able to rate games again would be helpful too.
I tried this when it was on GamePass a few years ago and had pretty much the same experience. I really wanted to like it but bugs and performance issues always got in the way. Definitely something I decided I wouldn't buy after trying it.
@Grail_Quest It birthed Need for Speed and Gex as well! Plus, it had a great version of Super Street Fighter II and a pretty good version of Samurai Shodown. For one bright and shining moment from 1994 to 1995 it felt so futuristic. Also, nice to see another Faxanadu fan!
@Serpenterror New entries or remakes of Astal, Bug!, & Clockwork Knight would make me so happy. Sega seems to have zero love for most of its Saturn wra creations.
It was overpriced, undercooked, & poorly timed. Not a bad game mind you, but not worth the initial asking price & it definitely doesn't have the clout to release alongside SMW. Come on Sega, you gotta do better than that.
Screaming! The original NES game holds some huge sentimental/nostalgic value for me. Can't wait to play this and relive those memories of 10 year old me fighting cyborg ninjas late into those hot summer nights so long ago.
@tektite_captain I remember it being announced as Gods & Monsters and thought the game looked interesting, like a Greek mythology BOTW. Then it was renamed and the graphics got a candy-like gloss added to them. It kinda got lost in the pack for me at that point.
@Logicfire yes, please! I wish Nintendo would buy all the Hudson Soft properties from Konami and add TG16/PC Engine to NSO. Also, imagine what Nintendo could do with Bonk or Adventure Island!
Motion controls as a novelty, sure. Motion controls as an integral part of the system, no. Other than a few niche experiences on the Wii, they were more frustrating than fun.
@PLATINUM7 I would be perfectly satisfied with an HD2D update to the graphics and all of the extra content from VI Advance. Maybe add some updated cutscenes from Anthology. The game doesn't need the VIIR treatment. Why does Square overcomplicate everything?
There are still remasters of Prime 2 & 3, Twilight Princess, & Windwaker that Nintendo could drop at anytime. I'd bet on seeing them this fall at the earliest. They're not going to do anything to step on TOTK's intro right now hence the quiet period.
@DavidMac That was my favorite game that I played last year. The artwork, story, and gameplay were great! Also, good god the music that played before it got dark would give me a panic attack & send me running to a campsite!
@Supertiefighter I had one too when I first started playing the game and not long after leaving the Great Plateau. It was in the middle of the day too! Until now, I didn't know it was a feature and not a bug.
Castlevania II: Simon's Quest. I get a lot of people being turned off by how different and obtuse it is, but it's still my favorite game in the series and it is my go to game for spooky season.
@Expa0 Mystic Quest's soundtrack had no business being that good! It really wasn't a bad game, just basic. In some ways, it was actually ahead of its time for a JRPG when I think about it. You could actually see enemies on the field instead of having random encounters. Grinding was optional. You could jump and use your weapons strategically as tools.
I wonder if the artist has even played Super Mario Land, because their artwork has nothing to do with the GB original. Nice pixel art for sure, but none of their scenes look even remotely related to Mario's romp through Sarasaland.
Lunar II: Eternal Blue on Sega CD. I got it for Christmas in '95 & will never ever part with it. I don't know what my mother went through to track it down in our podunk area, but I had very little hope of getting it. I was stunned. She knocked me over again when the next gift I opened was a copy of Secret of Evermore. I'll never get rid of it either. Honestly, one of the best Christmases ever.
Cat Trax on the Emerson Arcadia 2001. Congratulations if you even know what that is, and welcome to the Obscure AF Club! You're membership kit will be mailed to you.
Okay, I wasn't going to get one of these but the Lunar games hooked me. If those dont make it on to the US version, then I'll cancel my preorder. They should go ahead and toss Vay on there too to complete the list of Working Designs games. I'd also nominate Decap Attack, Shadow Dancer, Dark Wizard, and Corpse Killer for consideration.
I took so many in BOTW! You can just stand still in some places and watch a masterpiece develop as the weather and time of day changes. I took a lot pics of the cherry blossom tree on Satori Mountain too.
@somebread Yeah, I thought that too. I was playing out the fight scene in my head (timing when to the button for extra damage damage like the original) and it just felt way off to me. It is a gorgeous piece of work though.
@RushDawg Yes! A 10-15 hour game is the sweet spot for me, and a 20-25 hour game is about my limit any more. As much as I love RPGs, I've come to accept that there are many that I'll either never finish or never playthrough again due to the time commitment.
@SmaggTheSmug Sega is going to milk every last gold ring, er coin, they can out of Sonic's little blue teats with as little effort on their part as possible.
@mr_benn I want to do another playthrough of Spiritfarer, but I don't know if my heart can take it. No other game or movie has ever made me cry that hard. Alice & Stanley destroyed me.
@TSR3 I enjoyed the First Tree, for the most part. I find the...gimmick at the end of the game intriguing and wonder if my boy will ever see what I left behind there for him.
@Cowboysfan-22 I got an Everdrive GG a few years just to play the game and keep from opening it! Also, super envious of that copy of Cubivore! I saw a whole stack of them in Wal-Mart for $12 each years ago...and walked right past them.
I've got a sealed copy of Mega Man on Game Gear. It has taken every bit of restraint I have not to open and play it over the years. I have a complete copy of Bonk's Adventure for the NES that I probably wont take out of its protective sleeve again too.

Re: Feature: "It's A Perversion Of The Whole Thing" - Jeff Minter On Scam Games, Switch 2, And 'I, Robot'
I would love to see a Llamasoft riff on Atari Video Cube. Minter introduced me to that game (& emulation itself) on his website many, many years ago.

I always thought that commercial was a cocaine-fueled fever dream. It was a very popular drug at the time.
