I will try and say this without offense but you once again seem to miss the entire premise of the article. This is about creating (a perhaps some what artificial) demand for rotted tubers, in order to contribute. Obviously if you do have a method which supersedes the risk factor of turnips that's fine.
Time travel is very much a manipulation of the game's core premise but separate discussion, and I digress.
Weird revisionist historian who is in charge of these blurbs under each title. I would say almost none of that hyperbole matches how those games are regarded by the audience. Just another reason why no one likes to see a 7-way tie, even though it almost would seem that if one judges by the descriptions alone.
Like if you want to see how games are graded here, and this website vigorously defends a user generated five score... well you can see where I am going with this.
@boxyguy you have the right idea - I think Paper Mario as a franchise is one of the most underserved series, where exemplar production values are defeated by the weight of feeble / outdated mechanics.
Bloody bummer that we are missing out on this, great aesthetic and finally stepping away from their bizarre and simplistic Steamworld vibes. I've always wanted to see if a game could capture the fun of "cleaning" like was possible with Mario Sunshine and the FLUDD. Will definitely be checking this out on PC when it comes to fruition.
I think he's just using hyperbole to exaggerate the chances that a relatively lo-fi piece of software from a much less sophisticated era, could still be in contention in this cross sectional hall of fame.
These people are out of their flipping minds. Some oddball tinkerer who walked into the office one day with a box full of puppets, now he's out of twine and out of his mind. I have no patience for the kingpin methodology that pervades some of these studios. Games should be far, far away from that level of pyramidal rule from the top nonsense.
Comedy is rife, within some of the more entitled mentalities. You can't take the I already own a Wii U stance AND also claim the "oh this is too expensive, now I can't buy it" mentality at the same time. It's not price gouging if you already own the title unless it's your greed saying I need this a second time. Now perhaps they could smooth the road a little and offer compensation for those who owned the original.
But I think Nintendo will always price their software aggressively to make a profit of those consumers who are new to the series and perhaps Nintendo. So it's not as cut and dried as people are making it out to be, and it's also ludicrous to claim this used up any substantial amount of their development resources on a port.
Just make this game local co-op, ugh. Why does it always turn out to be somebody with amphibian caliber DNA bearing the decision making power over fundamental layers of the game. It completely undermines all the investment into more nuanced systems when you're forked from square one.
Basically if you're this dumb to resort to modifying the game which is always a (rightful) slave to the core physiology deemed by Nintendo... Just buy an actual PC as they are often the home of software which supports modification.
And don't start with the "I bought this so let me do X, Y, Z" you bought it knowing that it would behave just like any other Animal Crossing series game. That is Nintendo's guarantee to the much wider fan base which looks for a traditional experience that is free from the whims of any potentially malicious third party adaptations.
Echoing the sentiments of previous posters in that this actually could fill a rather neglected niche, and no that's not a euphemism (...) lol
We see very few games that can toe the line of being historically grounded (at least nominally) yet can also fit in the tropes we like to see in Advance Wars and Fantasy Tactics.
It's probably correct to call this an amalgam of previous ideas but it should also be said that a new combination can go a long way towards inventing something new. I don't know whether that is the case here, although I am mighty curious to try and see whether anything novel does bubble up to the surface.
Even hearing that it's technically sound and balanced around a stable framerate puts it in good company. With frequent updates and a F2P model this could easily transform into a worthy option.
Something is amiss here I don't really understand what has caused Nintendo to become so negligent and lacking in their ability to cater to its own fanbase. The fact that we are even having this discussion, of Nintendo "censoring" it's own developers, is completely insane. When you have an imaginary world and a blank slate for a character such as the toads, I can't imagine a more arbitrary thing than to place limitation on the amount of expression they can have. Whatever these ancient fossils purport to be in the industry, I say dispel them to the four winds. Creativity is King here and these people are the vanguard of their own destruction.
This couldn't be tackier, I'll be sad if this gains any traction whatsoever. It's an insult to the "bigger / bolder" Pokemon movement... this looks like a cheese ball level of digression.
For my own POV: I will say this video at least focuses rather solely on her gaming exploits and is therefore much less cringe-worthy than her "intro" to YouTube. Obviously she still is very overwrought in the smarmy always enthused aspect, but it's nice to see someone put a hobby out into the broader spotlight.
@Brydontk I think I misrepresented my viewpoint actually; wrote that kind of late and seeing it now wasn't quite worded correctly.
The coarse grain version is that Vivian was written in a manner that seemed consistent to Japanese viewpoints. While i am not well qualified to examine their cultural nuances, gender expression seems to be a trope that is explored within the realm of comedy. Often this space can avoid the stress of other venues, and thusly serves as a proving ground for a variety of norms; the Paper Mario games are certainly known to be intelligent in their melding of humor to enhance character development. The reveal for us in America largely skirted any controversy and as a ghost it just seemed to make for an extra enigmatic character.
Whew that was a lot...
Also Flurrie was just a curious addition to the game and perhaps with more at stake from a perspective of aesthetics, lol.
Sounds like trouble in a can; don't we have enough drama / tragedy surrounding streamers at this point already? Feels like a case of real life, video games, and bystander interaction all twisting into a black hole of surrealist oddity.
@Brydontk I doubt it's quite that simple, as I recall Vivian's character was more overtly... suggestive in the Japanese version. Which would seem to be the one most suitable to the approval of its audience, unless there was an uprising in Nintendo's home country as well. The version we received was more enigmatic than sexual, especially when compared to Flurrie. Who seemed to be a simple caricature but ofc the fans went bonkers (honkers?) with that one as well.
It was immediately clear once they showed trailers in which all the Mario cast were stock and barrel molded carbon copies of the series' mainstays. Still, ugh. It's hard to accept this lack of identity in a company that sells creative experiences.
Disturbing to find that same perverse logic is twisted so deep into the ethos of character design, as if Sticker Star had no impact whatsoever.
For my perspective I like this review / author's approach; in a few strokes he singles out and confirms the parts of the game that are likely to be objectively bad. Yet is still reassuring in that most of the other parts of the game are quite enjoyable and not entirely ruined by the battle aspect. For me every game is a puzzle to be solved by the player in terms of how they feel best to derive enjoyment. Look at speed running for an example of how far afield games can be enjoyed versus how the developer specifically created them. My long winded way of saying that I will probably avoid the fights as well, lol.
This is apparently the new fault level for the meting of justice; this would be described as what the social guillotine for those accused? I feel like this gawking at the whole spectacle has to be worse even than the courtroom. You can have a zero tolerance policy for this kind of behavior, but then what kind of quasi criminal activities are ever meant to be celebrated? I don't understand the place for this step at all - trust me vengeance (screaming in words) at these people is an insult to a trial by the court system.
There is no way to know definitively from a Reddit post of unsubstantiated accounts who merits the highest level of scrutiny. In effect this kind of thing tends to create an unabated air of suspicion wherein those who are not formally accused of criminal activity, languish under public opinion until they decide whether it makes sense to stay on our planet. We are likely to see more suicide from either side of the line because we as a society offer no moral recourse or path to recovery for those accused. This should be about betterment, improvement, and mutual vindication where applicable.
@Bliquid sounds like you have an ugly lense over the world and are expecting others to succumb as well that's how it comes off at least. Reading something as refreshing as this article and tarnishing it with an unkind sentiment, seems amiss.
Why is the wording of this article so damn guarded for an editorial website, you ought to be able to take criticism in hand. You know, pepper the salt with some optimism if it's not to your liking.
The headline needs to be trimmed down as well.
Edit
Looking at her video, it does seem that she is sadly lacking for self awareness, which is exactly how she comes across in her craft. She is a self-acclaimed social justice warrior of the first order and delivers her sentiments in a way that seems arrogant as it does naive, as well as unjust, and tiresome. Hating hu(man)ity isn't virtuous it's masochistic.
I wasn't able to move past the few minutes in which she draws in (famous) Internet personalities for her own personal self gratification. They fawn over her and glory in the decadence of her fame; their reactions are honest but the allure of it, and complete lack of humility diminishes her entirely as a person worthy of adulation.
Just let the man speak, gosh knows we entertain ourselves enough down here in the comments. It's okay to listen once in awhile, even if not in total agreement. These are good sentiments and a step in the right direction it seems to me.
Will be considering this game since the graphics are to my liking plus the soundtrack is easily worth a (+2) in my book due to the immersion created; especially in a labyrinth to keep the player in the right mood.
Yeah I totally got carried away there, wasn't in the best mood tbh and I shouldn't have posted like that. Next time will be sure to consider the context fully and not jump to any conclusions.
So you clicked on a link which portends to be a showcase of demos just to tell us your extra niche opinion on how they don't suit you? A curious cat that; most people aren't swift to delve into niche games based on a review of someone else's subjective taste. The demo is positioned in such a way as to bridge the gap between our expectations and the developers mission to deliver on them. It's actually one of the most pro consumer tools shy of piracy, to determine whether the game's premise was actually a marketing ploy. So I think they are a necessary and inescapable part of the space. Whether you use them or not is kind of beside the point, especially for such an innocuous thing as free software.
@rockodoodle - there is a gamut of settings to make the game easier, so don't pass up too quickly. Maybe check out some more game play and see if it's suitable for your style.
This is a really excellent review, precisely the kind that brings out the fun inherent to the game. Here the intentions are made clear out of the gate that it's a high-scoring review; it's a simple matter, then, to chronicle the varied moments that felt satisfying. Just like a bad review can drip with anathema over its foibles, here it takes to paper readily as a careful account brings a satisfactory justice to the experience.
How come there is zero oomph to the weapons and kills... hope it's a quirk of the trailer itself. Seems like it would be a waste to return all the graphics to full glory and have some lackluster combat. Part of the issue could just be that FPS games weren't striving to be as grandiose, with mowing down hordes of baddies to gritty EDM and all of that.
Uhh methinks you're being suckered to take the punchline and assume this is all some sort of faff about lean on the sport. I deny the premise that this is all made by some disaffected sports guy on the sidelines. While the parodic take is quite enjoyable I don't see anyone including panels of "stats" or other careful considerations of the sport, in a throwaway play on footsie.
Asinine treatment of their customers if those tweets are as dismissive as they seem: radio silence is underhanded speak for "we gave up and don't care." Fulfill your obligations to the customer first and then sulk in a corner. Seems like a clear case of over promising things and then hiding behind every available strawman in order to justify their lackluster service.
Their origins notwithstanding the purpose of such figures is clearly to bring cheer, they play flippen beep boop sounds.
Obviously a few of them are creepy but only a vague and silly way. They bring a lot of character to the game so it's hard to imagine them being abandoned now.
It's hard to nail down exactly what constitutes reactive music, since I would imagine you can achieve a similar effect by fading into/ or out of certain tracks like when transitioning between areas (as was mentioned above). Now perhaps that qualifies by definition but people are more likely to associate the phenomena as changes within a unique score, which are relevant to some situational event on the screen.
Perhaps that it is exactly what occurs in Diddy Kong Racing, it's just been too long since that game for me to remember those moments.
@Kalmaro because it seems perfectly rational to me that I can have an opinion on something which I am not the primary consumer of. Since most of the content of this site I do like typically, it seems worthwhile for me to point out a sore spot. Obviously for others it may be less of a compelling issue which is just fine.
@Kalmaro beautiful thing about the web, if you have a problem with my opinions you can skip right over those. Just like your advice with the article's themselves (which can easily have spoilers in the title). Hope that solves the problem for you.
Also I took special effort in my post to allude to the fact that data mining in this instance could be warranted, or at least the conclusion was beneficial and unlikely to be found in normal gameplay.
Data mining, the farcical and counter-productive exercise of short circuiting the natural cycle of discovery. Truly seems like the embodiment of our ever present thirst to skip ahead to the good stuff.
In this case it mostly reaffirms the character of Redd, but nevertheless it would nice in many cases to know less about our journey through games than more.
@Dodger yeah agreed, I certainly don't mind a fairly simple event where the idea behind it was clearly of good intent. It's a shame about the flower festival, considering that the GCN original would have perfectly supported the idea with it's unremovable plants. Still a bit hilarious to see how far awry players could take such an innocent festival lol. Considering the game is all about playing your way, a person could ofc leave the flowers alone too, if desired.
@Dodger I'm glad you brought that idea around full circle; trying to contemplate how being "Animal Crossing" in heritage could be a bad thing lol. Certainly in past entries there would tend to be curious events, which give a vibe of being there with little purpose other than to fill a calendar. And perhaps somewhat regretfully given the era of "More is More (fun)," it would seem to be almost a staple of this newest game. Fulfilling arbitrary tasks and general busy work seems to be the mantra.
Ugly comment section, full of overtly biased and condescending tones / remarks. Funny then that most of the arguments boil down to: "how does this affect you?" as though it's therapeutic to ridicule other people's thought process at a base level. To embody tolerance and live-and-let-live compassion, then we should let go of the Internet policing. You may not like or care for another's opinion, but as has been said more eloquently than me: our world's balance depends on the rights of everyone to say what's on their mind.
Stardew Valley and this game can coexist, there is no reason for them to overlap in a way which diminishes the other's appeal. Considering the history of the genre and weight these games hold, I'm surprised that sentiment even came up.

Perhaps that it is exactly what occurs in Diddy Kong Racing, it's just been too long since that game for me to remember those moments.
Re: Datamine Reveals Just How Sly Redd Actually Is In The New Animal Crossing
@Kalmaro yeah which is cool, I don't mind explaining myself. Kind of feels like you were playing moderator a bit there...
Guess nothing is clear on the interwebs though so, just two ships passing in the night.
Re: Datamine Reveals Just How Sly Redd Actually Is In The New Animal Crossing
@Kalmaro because it seems perfectly rational to me that I can have an opinion on something which I am not the primary consumer of. Since most of the content of this site I do like typically, it seems worthwhile for me to point out a sore spot. Obviously for others it may be less of a compelling issue which is just fine.
Re: Datamine Reveals Just How Sly Redd Actually Is In The New Animal Crossing
@Kalmaro beautiful thing about the web, if you have a problem with my opinions you can skip right over those. Just like your advice with the article's themselves (which can easily have spoilers in the title). Hope that solves the problem for you.
Also I took special effort in my post to allude to the fact that data mining in this instance could be warranted, or at least the conclusion was beneficial and unlikely to be found in normal gameplay.
Re: Datamine Reveals Just How Sly Redd Actually Is In The New Animal Crossing
Data mining, the farcical and counter-productive exercise of short circuiting the natural cycle of discovery. Truly seems like the embodiment of our ever present thirst to skip ahead to the good stuff.
In this case it mostly reaffirms the character of Redd, but nevertheless it would nice in many cases to know less about our journey through games than more.

@Alaninho well played indeed, sir
Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons: International Museum Day - Date, Start Time, Stamp Rally And Stamp Rewards Explained
Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons: International Museum Day - Date, Start Time, Stamp Rally And Stamp Rewards Explained
Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Hackers Are Making Star Fragment Trees
Ugly comment section, full of overtly biased and condescending tones / remarks. Funny then that most of the arguments boil down to: "how does this affect you?" as though it's therapeutic to ridicule other people's thought process at a base level. To embody tolerance and live-and-let-live compassion, then we should let go of the Internet policing. You may not like or care for another's opinion, but as has been said more eloquently than me: our world's balance depends on the rights of everyone to say what's on their mind.
Re: Story Of Seasons: Friends Of Mineral Town Launches In North America On 14th July
Stardew Valley and this game can coexist, there is no reason for them to overlap in a way which diminishes the other's appeal. Considering the history of the genre and weight these games hold, I'm surprised that sentiment even came up.
