Re: Review: Ion Fury - Hail To The Queen, The Old-School FPS Is Reborn

It's a mystery why the author thinks the guns are uninspired. They are at least as varied a selection as any game comparable; to me it just means they were getting tired of the shooty shooty which is fine.

I actually played this game on Steam (briefly) and found it was not for me, simply because my eyes don't adapt well to the color palette. But there is plenty to like and even the starting weapons seemed pretty cool to me.

Re: Little Inferno Is Getting A Gorgeous Physical Edition On Switch

OptometristLime

It's not going to be big name releases which see this kind of treatment, although the games are usually well-received critically. There would be entirely no point in creating such a specific product without narrowing their audience in some way. Demand is curated by design in order to entice purchasers, especially when the quantity has a possibility of being depleted. Worst case, maybe they have a few hundred copies which need a discount to sell. Not a big deal when you're dealing with a fairly narrow investment.

Yuck, terrible comments from the peanut gallery per usual (with some exceptions, you know who you are).

When did it become cool to hate on stuff that isn't your bag? It takes so very little self control to wade past a post that doesn't cater to your specific tastes. Even regardless of anyone's feelings on the game: artistry is evident in the images, and that's worth respect itself.

This is meant to cater to a NICHE audience thus why only 5,000 copies are made per run (of which there is only one). I know it's the fun caper to spit in people's bean curd, but maybe submerge the flaccid ego long enough to develop some perspective.

Re: Pokémon GO Stay-At-Home Changes Detailed, Remote Raid Pass, Field Research And More

OptometristLime

@Dramlin I doubt this to be overtly nefarious, the devs at Niantic are just extremely clumsy and out of touch in general. They do a good thing with their right hand (remote raids) and then foil it up with their left in the form of a paid experience. It's quite hopeless to ever see an entirely 100% on the nose effort from them.

We'll see how this plays out but similar to you, I am not likely to put even more money into this game in order to perform core functions of the app.

Re: Hands On: Getting Our Feet Wet With Trials of Mana

OptometristLime

@mesome713 why do you feel a rhyme or reason to offer up condemnation on one of the most classic character designs of an era? It's bizarre that you attribute your modernist taste to "lacking teen fetishism" (slightly paraphrased) when this game series was made FIFTEEN years ago. Immersion should be based on the universe in which the game is centered and how/whether anyone, including the game designer, feels shackled to real world archetypes. Show some respect for the medium and grow up for real - fantasy is not only an engine of mind for youth but a harbinger against the mental shackles we allow to bind us.

Re: Around 1,000 People Worked On The New Pokémon Games For Switch

OptometristLime

I'm going to save my time with the comments section for when the game comes out, and real flesh and blood people get to hold the game in their hands. Presumably some of you/us still game for the pleasure and enjoyment of the pastime. This modern culture of being jilted over every little thing has become truly vulgar. I do believe we will see some classic franchises toppled forever over the developers misreading their fans. Since this is the anonymous / impersonal Internet the companies often believe they are reading the unified feelings of their customer base.

Re: More Pokémon Sword And Shield Info To Be Dropped On 7th August

OptometristLime

If this game bleeds the franchise dry of all the neanderthal complainers it will be great. Back to basics, enjoying games for what they are. Snobbish opinions are without place or purpose in this hobby, and game designers accommodate these rambunctious "fans" at their peril. Release dates slip, drums of outrage drone on, and the end result will never be pleasing to those unhappy souls.

Re: Fire Emblem Voice Actor Has Dialogue Removed Following Admissions Of Abuse

OptometristLime

It seems like bizarre wording to me that he would suddenly be all repentant for these past transgressions. I find that highly improbable. This sounds more like a caught fish wriggling to find freedom.

There's not a lot of information to act upon here but if these various personal abuses were criminal in nature, it was surely necessary to scrap the lines / discredit that sort of behavior.

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo Switch Lite Might Not Be For You, But It Will Be A Smash Hit With My Family

OptometristLime

How does this even qualify as a "soapbox" ? It feels to me more like a self glorified comment, no offense, but not a sentiment that resounds above the rest. I am a little disappointed to see that the praises towards the system boil down to: I like it because yes and all the subtracted elements of the system are some how moot or it's a beneficial paring down.

For me the design elements of this system come very close to the spec that I was hoping for, however something needs to be added for it to be competitive! The unfortunate nail in the coffin for me is a lack of connectivity to the television in any way or format, it's just a lot of deductions to an excellent device. And I'm perplexed at how this model even presents a compelling option to customers, thusly neutered.

Re: Switch Lite's Battery Life Will Last 3 - 7 Hours, Depending On What You Play

OptometristLime

What the dumb, I hate the argument "it's not for you, so shut your penniless mouth" go ahead and run that by the marketing team. They wouldn't have green lit a concept that not only misses but alienates a number of key demographics. It's fair to say that there are pros and cons to the Switch Lite configuration just like there is going to be with any device. Only (allowing for) vociferous praise is not likely to mend any bridges with customers who are on the fence, either.

Re: Junichi Masuda Releases Official Statement About Limiting Sword And Shield's Pokédex

OptometristLime

This comment section is like the snake devouring its own tail. I think some customers are displeased but that isn't reason enough for Game Freak to go into salvage mode before weighing a response. In the eye of a storm it's hard to discern a category 3 hurricane from a bank of clouds, and they are likely in that evaluation period now. Hopefully Game Freak will show us their roadmap for inclusion of more Pokemon at some point. In the meanwhile we owe the developers enough space to deliver on their vision; surely it would be foolhardy of them to reverse course now that the game is nearing its finalization window.

Re: Junichi Masuda Releases Official Statement About Limiting Sword And Shield's Pokédex

OptometristLime

Such an ugly and ridiculous scene where longtime "fans" rail upon the series and its creator for not adhering to their make believe standards. Disregard whether Game Freak is being honest — as though they are beholden to their fans in some way to reveal their decisions and practices. Fact is this is not a new trend even in the Pokemon games even though it's being called sinister and unfair.

I think if they can be faulted for anything it's allowing their roster to balloon far beyond what is reasonable in any other game franchise. Sure it sells plushies but they should have tackled it head on much sooner. Perhaps by making arbitrary delineations in what Pokemon we can play as in each release, or simply not being so eager to entice sales by introducing more and more creatures into a beleaguered collection.

I wouldn't be surprised if Junichi Masuda was unceremoniously demoted or swept away from future projects due to this firestorm; it's a sign of the times when the vanguard of the series has to kowtow in fear of retribution for his legacy.

Re: Feature: Meet Axe, The Smash Bros. Underdog Who Changed The Competitive Scene Overnight

OptometristLime

@Vectorman when someone presumes to have a more relevant opinion on competitive Smash than Axe himself, as the other was proclaiming, I describe that presumptuous opinion as only possible in a child. In other words a person who is yet unable to realize the size of the world and how irrelevant their own thoughts and actions are besides a wider context.

The opinion you quoted of mine was that many games which are sequels in fact do not live up to their source material and are disappointing in some way. If you take Melee and compare that to Brawl then you see a divergence in the way fans perceive the series' evolution. And for me it solidified the things in Melee which simply could not be topped in terms of speed of play, combos, and the overall game feel.

Re: Feature: Meet Axe, The Smash Bros. Underdog Who Changed The Competitive Scene Overnight

OptometristLime

@Kalmaro guess what these players are older too, there is nothing intrinsic about your perspective that would supersede the way they view the game. Your argument condenses to: the previous game is obsolete because certain points have been improved upon (read: changed) in the sequel, the original now lacks merit or is undesirable in the modern day. There are plenty of original games which are stymied with quirks which would likely defeat the modern player yet their communities are active in pushing what is possible.

Re: Feature: Meet Axe, The Smash Bros. Underdog Who Changed The Competitive Scene Overnight

OptometristLime

Delete all the comments here lol, kids are too young to appreciate Melee. Ironic that these players have been on the grind for almost two decades, yet they are lightweights because modern crowds are unable to appreciate anything past 5 years ago. Cherish your heritage and support the people who still engage with the fabric of what has made games what they are. Progress is not linear many older games exceeded their counterparts; it's foolish to eschew something solely because it's unfamiliar.

Re: Talking Point: The Sound Strategy Behind 2DS Points To A Switch Mini

OptometristLime

Funnily enough I would absolutely be the audience for a smaller Switch, lower pricepoint would mean justification for a second system. The Joy-Con always toe the line of being too foolish/fiddily and I'm surprised they are even a selling point. Would be alright to see them go in favor of a more robust design (slightly reduced form factor). The dock has also been janky af and would be the easiest price reduction. A big as cable might still be the most efficient way to proffer a TV connection, provided they include some easy to break magnetic connector for those prone to happen accidents.

Re: Random: Competitive Melee Player Walks Off Stage In Match-Up Against Jigglypuff

OptometristLime

Oh my god why even post this here, with such a leading title in favor of the Jigglypuff player. It's clear almost no one posting is familiar with the competitive scene, and if you think people taking the game to this level is a blight then... don't watch or comment? This is literally a decade of work put in by some of the biggest names in just honing their craft and these lineups do happen, although it's dismal to watch.
