There are big diminishing returns with higher fps, so 40 fps like others said would have been amazing. They mentioned the FF7 Rebirth might also come to Switch 2, right? I'm very curious (more like worried) how they'll get that to run in a 30 fps state. That game has way higher system requirements
Well.. okay, that confirms BN being BN and playing it safe once again. Maybe by the 40th or 50th anniversary of Phantasia they'll actually release a worldwide remaster/remake of that game. If Tales is still a thing by then.
Getting pretty hyped! Does anyone know if we can pre-order directly at sellers in Europe or is it only possible to pre-order directly from Atari etc? 180 Euro's in total to order the Kollector's Edition from here (the Netherlands) is way too steep no matter how cool it is
Come on Hori.. please release a Split Pad Pro for Switch 2. Preferably with rumble this time. Very happy with my new toy but Joycons stil give me little Joy.
@sanderev sometimes publishers do that. I remember a rival videogame store not receiving the then newest Gran Turismo game because they broke a previous street date. On the other hand, our store/company started selling Skyrim about 5 days in advance (so around 06-11-11 instead of 11-11-11). I was about 50 hours into my save game I think around 11-11-11 xD
@Lizuka you mean the mobile phone graphics compared to the classic 2D artstyle? Or some horrible remixes of the original amazing soundtrack? And the only actual improvement being restoring your MP with every lv up? Oh yeah, and maybe the item limit you could increase to make training magic levels a bit less grindy.
Wouldn't call that a good remake. SoM is probably still my favourite game ever but I almost felt embarrassed they thought it to be a good idea to show Secret of Mana in this way to new gamers.
Oh, yeah.. we were talking about Chrono Trigger huh.
I hope, if there is a remake, it's at least as good as the Trials of Mana remake. That remake wasn't high budget but it showed love for the original by the devs.
@mlt Oblivion sold more than twice the numbers of Morrowind and it's less dated than Morrowind, so it doesn't sound baffling to me at all. It's less work to make it kinda modern and it is more well-known. Remastering Morrowind would probably not be enough to lure in the new generations of gamers, so it would need something more like a remake. Let's hope it will be a thing someday!
It made me happy hearing them talk about worldwide releases and even having the guts to 'answer' a question about the classic 2D games, remasters and remakes. At least they acknowledge the fans from all over the globe. And the questions they answered probably were just pre-recorded so for Bandai-Namco to actually talk about these kinds of subjects are.. Tales of Hope!
@Bolt_Strike you clearly underestimate how many consumers know **** about software and even find it to be complicated to understand their Switch has a software update🤣 I worked in videogame stores a few years and believe me, there are many people who aren't stupid but would not ever try to even bother understanding how a computer works. Let alone a handheld running Windows that's made for keyboard and mouse. Nintendo Wii was a huge succes for a reason.
Nintendo showed the world our technology is ready for more handheld consoles and pc's. But a high end pc handheld won't be much of a challenge for the next Nintendo console.
@KingMike omfg.. please don't give them any horrible ideas🤣 That's the worst thing they could do with it being the worst version of Phantasia by a huge margin.
I hope for a remaster or remake for Tales of Phantasia with a worldwide release. It would be the best thing to do since that's the only Tales turning 30 next year and it never got a proper worldwide release. Re-releasing the crappy GBA-port would be very bad marketing for that game (especially with ToP X being a thing which improved the gameplay big time) and Tales in general.
@Axecon a true HD remake sounds very Nintendo indeed. In 2024 when 2K and 4K are starting to become pretty normal and with HD being a thing since the PS3 era
Awesome! A randomizer would make this an ultimate version of this game. Maybe some added options for 'fog of war' inside dungeons and maybe even the outside world. To make the exploration still a thing. And like many others said I hope the Oracle games are getting the same treatment.
Took the quiz seriously till I stumbled upon the timeline question.. why even think of asking that when there are so many more things you could ask about OoT itself.
But hey.. About 3-4 months ago Felix did an awesome series of livestreams playing OoT for the first time. At the end we voted about what you'd be trying out next (I think it was MM). It's been completely silent since then. Are you still planning on doing it? If not.. please let us know instead of letting it secretly die.
It was awesome to see and take some small part of (giving hints when asked)!
Why emulate 3DS and DS? It might be fun if you're going to use this device for 'everything' but still. Making this a portable Wii U would be way more interesting.
@Axecon thank you for the recommendation, didn't know about this. Unfortunately it's quite a bit more expensive for people living outside of the US/Canada so I might look into some digital issues before deciding if I want to go for physical which I probably prefer
Still hoping there will be a Dark Cloud 3 someday. Sometimes it almost seems like nobody knows it even existed. Could have something to do with this being a Nintendo website
@Nanami_Ataraxi which means you didn't give the demo a real chance. This is not about disagreeing. You're assuming the wrong things about this demo. The demo does NOT force you to go to the Eshop and it only makes you watch the ingame trailer once. From then on after every 3-4 songs it shows the same pop-up that you then can skip through in a few secs. Nothing more, nothing less. There is no unique demo just for you to annoy you.
You almost make it sound like a hand comes out of your screen to grab your wallet after every song! Just hoping I made some people give this demo a chance instead of listening to you
@JoeyTS it definately seems the difficulty ceiling has gone way up this time because of having to do two inputs at once. Having a hard time with it still, but that also has to do with being used to the old touch controls.
The game is still very doable for me on standard and expert (all S rank or higher and some perfect chains), but beating even 'just' the 30 songs in the demo on ultimate (or even the harder difficulty) will probably take me a long time! I actually have to learn doing simultaneous inputs now on ultimate since my only experiences with rythm games were the previous two 3DS titles in this series.
So basically the game has more songs, is more challenging, can be played on the big screen AND handheld.. and it has (local) multiplayer. I'm more hyped for the full release now
@Nanami_Ataraxi
So after getting a pop-up once with a video showing off the complete game you couldn't take it anymore and deleted the demo assuming it will force you to go through that after every song. You really are overreacting.
The demo 'makes you' watch the video only once and even so.. it wasn't a bad video. It just showed more songs that will be included in the full game and some high level play. Didn't even take 3 minutes. After that you get a returning pop-up every 3 (no, not after every..) songs or so that you can completely skip through by just mashing the A button a few times. It allows you to rewatch the video but even the cursor is set on returning to the demo by default.. so it's not forcing you anything.
That's the only returning 'demo-thing' that takes about 3 seconds of your time to skip through, while playing through 30 songs on 3 to 4 difficulties without playlimit for free -.-
30 songs! That's almost half of the first complete game And even that one I enjoyed for many hours. CC was a huge improvement with more content. I'll probably get this game with all DLC. The fact this can be played on the big screen (and better audio) and has (local) multiplayer makes this one of the rare day one purchases for me.
A port of Tales of Phantasia (X) from PSP with the improved battlesystem and extra's. Shouldn't be super hard to port that version to modern systems with HD graphics and sell it for not too high a price. That version of Phantasia being available in English would pretty much make my whole gaming year complete!
@nhSnork you're welcome to try out my 1440p/165hz monitor that doesn't cost too much these days to see the difference between 30/60/120/144/165 fps. Though not everybody seems to see the difference when reading comments online.
60 fps being 'silky smooth' was 5-10 years ago. Only at Nintendo 60 fps still is the current pinnacle of smoothness. Curious when we actually will hit a wall where higher fps doesn't matter anymore.
But back on topic: this makes me doubt what version to get, Switch or PC. Might wait till releaseday to hear if the 30fps on Switch is actually stable (and how well the PC version is optimized to squeeze out every frame I can get XD).
@Smug43 I for one am annoyed so many games don't have couch co-op along with online co-op. Glad to see some games still get couch co-op but this game (even though I'm a huge Secret/Trials of Mana fan) might be a bit too generic from what I've seen.
The tweet doesn't say 'MORE menu-based battle system... It just says 'NEW menu-based battle system' which could just mean a modern overhaul for the UI. And like someone else already commented, the original game wasn't turn based. Though it wasn't very fluid either.
Don't know if someone already mentioned it to you. The part of him just standing there while being shot at is at the start of the game with Zack being in a training simulation in which he couldn't be actually damaged.
@UltimateOtaku91 your glasses must be up for a replacement if you actually think the Switch version looks worse than the first console iterations of Skyrim (PS3/X360). Fortunately the Switch version looks and runs better than the original console versions.
@RiasGremory I played D3 this month on Switch for some couch co-op so I'm not one of those haters. I also own the game on PC, PS3, PS4. It's a fun action game (not that much of an arpg, it's been made super casual) for co-op but it's an almost 10 years old game that didn't even look that good when it came out.
@Flashlink99 Dude.. you and other people in this comment section seem to forget D3 came out in 2012!! D2R came out this year-.-

D2R is a beautiful remaster with way better lighting effects while D3 looks like a cartoony top down WoW made by Disney on a budget. Also, look at the download size of D2R and D3 on Switch, D2R is WAY bigger.
It's not weird at all D3 runs better on Switch, it always was a very light and graphically not too impressive game.
@Andy_Witmyer I was also wondering why there is no review here. Though this is purely a Nintendo website so it might be that they underestimate the impact this game had back in the days on PC.
