@mazzel ah I see, I don't know the differences in the German version. I'm from the Netherlands (hi neighbour!) but we had the English version. I was around 12 years old when I first finished the game. I remember being stuck all the time in Emperor Vandoles castle. I didn't see the hidden switch on a wall to disable the teleporters for months (I think it was months.. might have been years).
Once I finally discovered how to continue (instead of starting a new game all together) the world opened up since you get to use Flammie a few minutes after that. I was so ****ing happy then! There was no turning back after that and I was pretty sad when I finished the game in the encounter being depicted in this awesome clip.
@mazzel no offence.. you have a Secret of Mana profile picture but you don't know Popoi is genderless? ;p
I really love this clip! The faces look a bit weird at times but the animation, music and art direction really capture the feeling I had (and still have) when playing/finishing this game. I'd love to see more but I'm sure it took ages to make this short video.
I love these Kingdom games! Two Crowns started out quite buggy but it has improved greatly over the last year. Looking forward to this fresh coat of paint coming up. Already played this game on Switch for over 100 hours
I saw this being announced on the official Mana Series Facebook page. Looking at all adoring comments there I almost started doubting myself. Not one single person commented on it looking hideous as hell.. and both consoles do Thank you for restoring my faith in humanity somewhat, Nintendo Life. And btw, I am a big Mana fan.
I bought the game today at the same time with a friend to play co-op from the start. It really runs very well! The only downside we encountered was a very long loading screen for me (while my friend already got through in about 10 secs) when we entered a challenge area
@Barbara001 You can forget about SoM.. with Collection of Mana just being released. Maybe SE will work along with adding a few other of their classics.. but SE keep pumping out remasters/remakes. I also don't think Capcom will add anything, with the Street Fighter and Mega Man collections already available. But still, a load of first party SNES will be awesome to have portably.
Okay.. so this is basically the same with physical copies of a game I guess. Someday they just stop producing it or a licence expires. The only downside is it's hard or impossible to sell your digital copy to another person.
@JohnnyC There's no need to actually stream GC games on Switch since the Switch will probably be able to play GC/Wii games perfectly on its own! The Nvidia Shield (as you might know it's pretty much the same as a Switch on the inside) can run Dolphin almost perfectly and that emulator isn't even developed by Nintendo.
@GetShulked Then it's not the version for you (if it turns out to actually exist). Not for me either for that matter! But there probably are quite some people lurking around not owning a Switch (but having a 3DS and other handhelds) really wanting to play the new Pokemon for example. Also, if the Mini won't have detachable joycons I guess that should be a reason to include an actual d-pad.
I for one am more curious about the actual announcement and what kind of improvements a Pro version might bring.
Soon they'll be also be able to play online in the exact same manner as they can at this very moment.. but now with a fee and some prehistorical NES games.
@Heavyarms55 You're probably not the only one. I for example aren't interested in those spirits in the least bit because I also only play with friends locally or sometimes online. So those spirits don't matter at all. Haven't even tried World of Light and I might never.. but we'll see
@link3710 Naming lists of games.. talking about 'we' when talking about Nintendo and 'they' as in Sony.. Don't act like a stereotypical fanboy so much! Just enjoy the games you enjoy on whatever system.
Someone made a good point: play these games in hard mode asap! It does make it a lot more challenging and thus more enjoyable. Easy/normal difficulty in any Warrior game is boring as hell. Just don't pursue Lu Bu..
@Malcrash Same! Two/three (or more of course) characters per FE title would be much, much better in my opinion. I like the modern 3DS titles, but I've seen those characters interacting more than plenty
Some of you are funny! Just because you decided there should be Gamecube VC on the Switch doesn't mean they're going to present it to you in this Direct. Just keep your expectations in check! Enjoy the show and don't speculate or expect ANYTHING. You'll be a lot happier that way. (I remember getting pissed off after every Nintendo Direct about 4 years ago, because they didn't announce SNES or GBA on 3DS.. I learned my lesson )
True, many pixel'art' games look hideous.. not this one! Just look up some Youtube videos. This game has been out for at least over a year. The graphical style (use of colours, backgrounds, movement and time of day/year) combined with the soundtrack really makes for a unique experience. It reminded me of the days of (good) 2D pixelgames with just the right amount of detail to make up the rest in your head. If you haven't really played these kind of games, it might not be the game for you.. or it might be a good way to start!
I really enjoyed the game on Steam! Getting the achievements (most are pretty fun to plan/do) gave it some nice replayvalue. I loved the atmosphere. Don't underestimate these graphics. They might look 8 bit but there won't be any game on NES looking and sounding this good!
@Shiryu Thank you for the suggestion but still I majorly prefer having SoM SNES with the original soundtrack but in CD quality. It would be an amazing upgrade to this game, since the sound effects distort the music of the normal build-in soundtrack. Just having the same music without interruptions and a bit more clear is all I need
Any help would be appreciated, but I'll try to replace the music myself if I got the time.
@Wolfy76700 I found the patched rom with the replaced music (with many tracks not fitting the game at all) and tried replacing those music files. I'm at the point now that I learned how to do that (converting a music file to the .pcm format) but it will take quite a lot of hours to finish. Maybe I should wait for the remake with the remastered OST so I can use that soundtrack on the SNES game. The main reason for wanting msu-sound on Secret of Mana is the fact the music conflicts a lot with the sound effects ingame. With a replaced soundtrack using msu1 this problem will be solved. Then you can hack away with your sword without interrupting the music
Having SoM with rockmusic and the like isn't exactly what I wished for
Impressive to see people getting this to work.. BUT I'll try not to listen to what they've done with this game. I remember how horrible the replacement audio of Secret of Mana sounded.. I'm trying to replace the music of that game at the moment with just the original soundtrack in CD quality. That's the way these msu1 patches should work imho.
@Sligeach Seems you can upgrade to the Wii U version with a huge discount, I'll try it out later since I got the Wii VC version as well. Here's hoping there will be more Square-Enix titles coming to the VC (and to Nintendo alltogether).. so very late, but better than never..
And I agree with the crappy Nintendo advertising. I was in a shop today and I saw the Wii U Mario Maker pack is as expensive as a PS4 (€288,-, but without games). €240-250 might do the trick.

@Tasuki nope. There always was 2p co-op in Seiken Densetsu 3/Trials of Mana. There was a fanpatch to make it 3p co-op though

There's plenty of magic but how much depends on what classes you pick in the game. Some class changes are more focussed on melee fighting.

It might be more tempting if those SNES games will be playable online with multiplayer. Time will tell!

You should watch this video starring Kirby (Superstar) in the Can Can tune:

The Jigglypuff vid doesn't hold a CANdle to it (imo). The timing and especially the variation are awesome.

Re: Deals: Don't Miss Your Chance To Own A SNES Edition New Nintendo 3DS XL
Of course the U.S. isn't getting this. The SNES didn't look that colorful and sexy in the U.S. They'd have to design a blocky purple 3DS.
