Nintendo has shared an updated list of Europe's most-downloaded Switch eShop games, revealing which titles were the most popular during December 2020.
Taking top spot is the online multiplayer sensation Among Us, which launched out of nowhere on the console last month. With its low price point and huge popularity, it's easy to see why Among Us has topped the list this time around.
Elsewhere, the rest of the list is mostly made up of big-name Nintendo favourites, with an awful lot of Mario goodness being present in particular.
You can check out the full list below. It's based on the number of Nintendo eShop downloads (so no physical sales) in European territories during the whole month:
- Among Us
- Minecraft
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- Super Mario Party
- Super Mario 3D All-Stars
- 51 Worldwide Games
- Immortals Fenyx Rising
- Stardew Valley
- Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity
- New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
- Pokémon Sword
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
- Super Mario Odyssey
Did you download any of these titles on Switch last month? Any surprises in the top 15? Tell us below.

Pleased to see Immortals amongst that list, hope it's performed well overall.
Enjoying Immortals but these lists just further show how poor the lineup was last year.
I'm hoping that 21 brings a few AAA Nintendo games.
I'm still giddy about the fact that, after Sony snatched console exclusivity for Fall Guys - "the one everyone was playing" - Among Us first flat-out murdered the numbers reached by its userbase, and then Nintendo went for the kill and got that on the Switch.
Ouch, 10th place for Hyrule Warriors. Beat out by much older games. I think the physical sales fell off the top 10 after the first week if i remember correctly.
Bit disappointed Horace isn't on there, particularly as it was number 3 on the UK eshop download charts for about 2 weeks when it was on sale.
By the way is it me or did Pikmin 3 pretty much flop outside of Japan?
I'm not a huge Mario fan so for me that list is very disappointing. No Hades makes me sad..
Eh? Where is hades?
No doubt the blind defenders will jump in, but really sad to see this cash cow console keep rolling without developing any high quality new software. The third place game was originally released almost seven years ago. Switch came out firing with Botw, Odyssey, Splatoon 2.... and that was pretty much it. Not interested in eshop games, ports, or rereleases. Sad nintendo noises...
@TheSmashTheorist Oh yes, Hades was number 2 in UK for ages too! Weird?! Unless the UK chart is radically different from the rest of Europe.
@15roundTKO Limiting yourself to no eshop games removes a lot of really good games from your options. Not sure why you would do that.
@NotoriousWhiz I play a few I just don't count them as "Nintendo" games. Played Stardew on Switch and it's great. My point was this list shows that due to a lack of new or original material, switch users are forced to rely on third party material or aged retreads.
Due to PSD2 regulation it is no longer possible to use credit card payment on nintendo switch eshop in all EU countries.
@15roundTKO Doesn't it also reflect the fact that there's been lots of new Switch owners this year, especially at Christmas time? As a new console owner why would you not buy the best games on the console, even if they had been out a while?
Hades and Horace were both on sale so this chart probably excludes them for that reason, they’ve both had fantastic sales on the European eShop, don’t worry.
@Clyde_Radcliffe
That's the case, for sure.
The list just screams "Christmas in the UK".
I wish Age of Calamity performed better, I bought it as a birthday present for myself and it's a nice little game. I don't think the demo helped in the slightest.
@Clyde_Radcliffe of course that is true. My point is that it's disappointing Nintendo themselves are selling more consoles than ever but making no AAA games because the cash flows regardless.
@AmplifyMJ So games on sale aren't included in these charts? That's odd.
@15roundTKO Each to their opinion, but I haven't felt starved of Nintendo games at all on Switch. Out of all my consoles, Switch is the one I spend the most time on.
Further evidence that Mario Kart 9 is years away. Number 2 is over 10 years old and number 3 is 6.5. Only three games from 2021 on the list!
Come on! super mario party DLC!
Only started playing Age of Calamity at Christmas. Didn't think I'd like it but it is easily been my favourite game this year. Almost finished it. Highly recommend.
Thought Horace would be up there too after the heavy discount.
@Clyde_Radcliffe yeah, to be specific, ‘... includes all paid purchases of games made on Nintendo eShop or via the Nintendo website, excluding purchases made during discount periods, Game Voucher redemptions and free downloads...’ @NintendoLife @RyanCraddock maybe the article could reflect that?
@blockfight won’t show BECAUSE of the discount. The chart excludes sales made while on discount
@TheLightSpirit ummm to advocate for some high quality game releases....sorry if that offends you...which wouldn't make any sense but ...ok...
@AmplifyMJ ah that makes sense.
