$5 would be a great price, though I'd see it as $10. Also are we grouping single and family plan pricing together? So are we hoping/assuming both plans will only be $5 - $10 more per year?
From everything I've read the new dock's new HDMI 2.0 (4K ready) chip is actually specially wired to run the network adapter. So in this scenario it's likely that there is no 4K output option if the network adapter is in use. It would be nice if the dock supported 4K as that is the limiting factor on the Switch right now. Technically several games could run at 4K on the current hardware including Snipperclips, Tetris 99 and others. Obviously don't expect Breath of the Wild or Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in 4K 60fps with the current hardware.
@RadioHedgeFund You sound like you didn't experience the N64 first hand, which is fine, so our perspectives are going to be different. For the era, the N64 and Playstation were equally groundbreaking. While I love the Dreamcast as it started the era of "128-bit" and had several great games for it's criminally short run, to me the N64 was the revolutionary console. I remember grabbing the Dreamcast at release and loving Crazy Taxi, Sonic Adventure, House of the Dead 2, 2BA 2K, NFL 2K, and others at release or shortly after. Compared to anything before it the definition was better, and games ran at higher frame rates, though it still had pesky load times coming from the N64.
@RadioHedgeFund The N64 was revolutionary for its time in a range of ways that are easy to forget if you didn't experience it. First of all, it was the first console (well aside from the garbage Atari 5200 controller) to have a true 360-degree analog joystick. Sony would follow suit years later, but the PS1 controller at the time only had an analog d-pad.
The N64's graphics are a bit blurred by today's standards but back then on a tube television, the N64's anti-aliased graphics were smooth and sharp looking for their time.
The next aspect of the N64 were its load times. Where Playstation had a huge advantage in overall storage, the N64 ran on cartridges with next to no load times. This was really helpful in the overall immersion of games as you rarely would see load screens.
The N64 also instituted rumble with the Rumble Pak, for the first time at home you could feel the controller shake.
The last aspect I'll mention was four-player split-screen gaming. The N64 was the first to have four-player ports built into every console. You could add a peripheral to the Playstation to do this, but because it wasn't integrated it didn't trickle down to many games. Nintendo of the big three is still the only one to focus much attention on split-screen local multiplayer, and that began on the N64. Being able to play Mario Kart, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, Mario Party, Diddy Kong Racing, Smash, Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, F-Zero X, Turok, etc, etc in split-screen was amazing.
@Fraba The developer talked about wanting to do an HD remaster of the original trilogy after getting this one out. But either way a remaster or a sequel I'm all in. I've played the first few cups and am really enjoying this classic series. I have a bit of nostalgia playing the original in arcades and then the N64 series. Cruis'n Blast has lived up to all the hype for me.
The original version of the browser came with a memory module that plugged in the GBA slot, and based on reviews many don't include this. Without it this is useless. Also aside from wanting a complete set, this browser is almost unusable with current HTML5, not to mention the DS only supporting 802.11b with limited security protocols. You may have to dig out an old access point to even get this online.
I'm in day one if he could make this happen. Cruis'n was amazing in the arcade and equally great on console. So many great memories. I still have my N64 Cruis'n trilogy.
Fortunately, I have Xbox and Playstation to supplement my Switch. I'll probably just wait on this as I bought it on Switch though I could play it on GamePass. But that would require an extra purchase for the base game when it's inevitably removed from the service someday.
@ATaco Extreme capitalism, socialism, or even communism have their downsides. Ultimately while not reselling "essential" goods it's not making a bad situation any better for anyone else. This is a moral grey area where scalpers aren't doing anything "wrong" but they are extorting others because of a short supply creating an unnecessary middle man.
@tntswitchfan68 Apparently you just need enough development staff to push the idea. Advance Wars, Cruis'n Blast, and Fatal Frame are all ports with Advance Wars appearing to get the most out of it, Cruis'n Blast an arcade port and Fatal Frame potentially just a straight Wii U port. Still exciting, (and I am buying each of them) but Metroid Dread was probably the most exciting news out of E3 from Nintendo. Point being, ports are welcome anytime, but new games are more welcome.
I mean maybe if you have a broken disk drive, but otherwise I'd much rather do a setup where I don't ruin my ability to use any of my 56 disk Wii U collection. I get that he's going for full digital, but that Gamecube adapter could have easily been modified into the side if needed.
I'm using a similar 21" Android touchscreen computer for one of our Switch and Xbox right now. The fact this is slightly more portable and offers a 1440p screen with a battery is nice. But at $500+ it seems they should have opted for an OLED panel. I'm sure it's a small niche market of Switch owners that will pick this up, but it's nice to have options despite this being tailored better to other users.
Would love for this to be true. If so, I'm concerned about the late manufacturing date with all of the demand on next gen consoles. But if they can reach their goals (and they are high) I'd love to buy one and preorder asap.
Short answer, these joy-cons are still unavailable. These look amazing, but they haven't fixed the joy-con drift so these are practically guaranteed to have issues. I used to be okay with Nintendo's repair service, but they've since changed that to use local repair centers. My last two joy-con's I sent in have come back with "fixed" yet incredibly dinged up replacements that also had grime around the joysticks and buttons on the replacements I received. The one's I sent in were clean and the one's I received were obviously someone else's used joy-cons despite being "cleaned". I'm to the point that practically only use the Pro controller.
@PanurgeJr I'm in for a new game, but you raise an interesting point of just going for Mario Kart 8 Ultimate. If Nintendo just released every racer, every course, every battlecourse as paid DLC, maybe even in seasons, I'd be on board.
@tonyp1987 I remember passing on them after the Limited Run listing for each mentioned they were in talks with Best Buy for doing a release of these games. Having a discount with Best Buy I was hopeful. After the Limited Run release nothing happened with Best Buy. Still bummed but I suppose it's my fault. Glad I was able to grab a physical copy of River City Girls (also a WayForward game) from Best Buy.
I'll be grabbing this to complete my digital collection. I do have the Shantae Half Geni Hero Ultimate edition and Seven Sirens on Switch physically. From Best Buy and PlayAsia respectively.
Fun games for sure. If interested in Urban Flow buy the free DLC and then the price on the bundle including the base game goes to $2.50 while the base game separately is still listed at $15. So basically there is a good option to buy and a costly option at the same time.
This would be the perfect game for Nintendo to celebrate the year of Zelda with. Add it to the Switch, with online play, possibly drop in/drop out play.
@tankymctankus Same here. After adding an HDMI adapter to my Gamecube, logically I also need to go back and play some GBA games. Also looking forward to the Analog Pocket sometime this year that I was lucky enough to grab last year.
I gave up on this game back when I hit the unsurpassable grind at level 7. There was basically no progressing short of paying a large amount of money. As I already have Skyrim I didn't see any point.
Maybe I'm just the oddball who has enjoyed the Marvel and Disney movies (even the live action, except maybe Mulan). Still despite peoples claims that Indie games are better than triple A and that their best experiences of this gem have been on PS4, Nintendo remakes sell, and sell A LOT. Nintendo games are fun, even the ones we have all played before. Just because we've enjoyed them doesn't mean others have as well. If they didn't sell this well Nintendo would have moved on, but it's an easy move, and it works.
On the other side with PS5 and Series X/S, things are just as slow or worse. I've got both consoles and remasters are the only thing they've got now. Halo sells Xbox and Spiderman PS5. If there were any great new game ideas we aren't seeing them yet, still it's easy to sit back and criticize and critique when when we aren't the ones contributing.
@FX102A Same. Unfortunately very few of us were able to get preorders and the price is a bit more. I sat on the dock, and therefore missed out, same with the GameGear adapter. But still I'm excited.
@redpanda0310 I agree this game is great, and could only be matched in Nintendo adding Tomadachi Life as well. I like your avatar, would be great if Nintendo decided they wanted to also bring the badge arcade to the Switch. Good times!
@Mountain_Man It's a unique experience. For it's time, seeing your Mii characters (of yourself, friends, family, celebrities even) talk, collaborate and battle in an RPG was a great experience. It plays on a lot of the tropes of Nintendo and RPG games in general but is a genuinely fun experience.
@Mr_Persona Tomadachi Life was such a unique game on the 3DS, I would love to see it show up on Switch or see a sequel.
My question is now, aside from new hair styles and a higher resolution, how much if any new content will be added to Miitopia? Still grabbing it either way.
@SpectralDynamite Same. I'd love a new entry, especially as it would offer more content. Mario Kart 8 had already had DLC packs back on the Wii U, and then the Deluxe adding actual battle courses they forgot to add in the first game (a huge oversight in my opinion). I don't believe with Mario Kart 9 Nintendo would have to re-invent the wheel like the did with 8 in adding anti-gravity. They could simply do as they've done in creating new cups, possibly with other Nintendo franchises like Metroid, more Zelda, even adding water stages and boats from WaveRace, or Diddy Kong Racing. Adding more retro courses (Wario Stadium 64, Wario Colosseum NGC, DK Mountain NGC, etc) would also be welcome. But I would also welcome some more DLC packs for MK8D if Nintendo opts to wait for a "Switch 2", it would just be the first mainline console (or even handheld) to not get it's own unique Mario Kart entry.
I like Mario Kart Tour, but I absolutely hate the gambling mechanic loot boxes that it uses to unlock characters. It's a bad tactic used by others like EA and I hate that Nintendo opted to do it, even though it's making them a fortune. For this, and the simple gameplay mechanics I gave up on Mario Kart Tour long ago and don't plan on revisiting it anytime soon. I've already wasted over $60 in the game and got nothing of any consequence for my investment. I should have just kept it free.
@westman98 I've settled into that realization, and will be pleasantly surprised if it does release at this point. But with Nintendo stating that the Switch has another four years, hopefully, just maybe, possibly, Mario Kart 9 is in the mix.
My point being it's been a long time since we've had a fresh Mario Kart game. A lot of fans assumed that Splatoon wouldn't see another entry on Switch (myself included), with many saying because it would divide the player base. Well this just proves that is not a reason for Nintendo. The Switch deserves it's own Mario Kart, but yes, there is a possibility that Nintendo isn't interested in developing it right now.
@Chandlero Visually the Wii U was a 720 machine, and Mario Kart 8 on Switch bumped it up to a smooth 1080p/60fps (on Wii U it had weird frame pacing and would skip frames every so often).
My point was if you go back and look at the reveal footage of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe from the 2017 Direct, it actually looks worse than 720p at points because of Youtube's compression. From the comments back then a lot of people who saw the Direct said it looked no different or worse. In reality side by side the Switch looks sharper, but again my point is Youtube is not the place to actually demonstrate enhanced game footage (however small or great) because of compression.
@JohnGrey Most Zelda titles including Skyward Sword have their fans. Personally I thought the game was great and will be picking it up, though it is by no means my favorite entry. With Mario's 35th seeing both a compilation and a re-release (Mario 3D World), hopefully the same or more is done with Zelda. I'm really hoping we also see a 3D compilation including Ocarina and Majora's Mask. Though I'd prefer a remaster of both games. Who knows, Nintendo could potentially have Grezzo working on remasters of Minish Cap, the Oracle games or even Four Swords, similar to the work they did on Link's Awakening.
@Sahnec Exactly. Similar complaints have been going on for a long time. I remember when Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was announced and people were saying it either looked no better or looked worse. Compression in these Youtube video streams doesn't help sell a product that in person looks much better. I thought the same thing when watching the Splatoon 3 reveal, it was pretty bad.
@SMW I'll just leave this here again. As excited as I am in Splatoon 3 getting a release year, we'll have had all three entries of Splatoon will have released since one year AFTER Mario Kart 8 was released. And the last two mainline entries of Smash have released six months AFTER Mario Kart 8. If we can get a new entry on the same console we should be able to get a new Mario Kart.
@RandomGamesAndStuff Splatoon 2 is still very relevant and a blast to play, I'd strongly encourage you to still grab it. There are great stages and even some great single player content.
@DK-Fan Yeah being upset about Splatoon 3 is pretty ridiculous. Most mainline shooters have nearly yearly entries on top of season passes. Splatoon offers so much for so little and what was shown today was great. Can't wait.
I'm soooo excited for Splatoon 3, but it's sobering that ALL three entries will have released since one year AFTER Mario Kart 8 was released. Not to mention two entries of Smash.
4 Switches in our home. My day one Switch, the Christmas 2018 Switch, Christmas 2019 Switch, and then decided to also grab the Animal Crossing Switch this year and let my son use my day one console. So aside from my wife, we all have Switch consoles.
I've had two of these over the years, currently I just have one. Both I bought for $20 each and strangely both had residue of Coca-Cola poured on them that made it's way to the backlight. With a bit of cleaning both look and work like new.
While the cramped size makes it difficult to play for very long, it's still a very cool console and looks great even with it's postage stamp sized screen.
@Azuris Personally I'd love to see the next entry with the series. Mario Kart 8 released in spring 2014, got an update to it's multiplayer with DX in 2017, and a few minor updates to accommodate Nintendo Labo. Aside from that we've been playing the same game for nearly six years (five for it's DLC).
Another expansion pass would also be great to hold us long time Kart fans for a while. If they wanted, I'm such a die-hard Mario Kart fan they could sell me all of the DLC costumes from Mario Kart Tour on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for $6 each and I'd probably buy them. I'd also be okay if Mario Kart took the Smash Ultimate route and trickle released new content (cups, characters, etc) over time in a Season Pass.
Considering we are halfway through the Switch's lifecycle, most of us assume a new entry is on the way, but with how well Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is selling Nintendo could rightly push back any new entry to 2023 to go alongside a possible Switch 2.
@Iggy-Koopa I quickly learned this game was a big cash grab and stopped playing it. I'd easily shell out another $60 for the next console entry of the series or even just on DLC over this. This is basically a simple game about loot boxes where you pay for a chance to unlock a character. Paying in hundreds of dollars doesn't guarantee anything either, and at that point it's a pretty mediocre version of Mario Kart to begin with... but that hasn't stopped people from making this one of Nintendo's most lucrative games. It made roughly 38 million in it's first 30 days alone.
@Patendo I don't think Nintendo has done anything to fix the joy-con drift problem. We have several Switch consoles in our home and I've sent away each set at least once for repair, and several times on a few. Nintendo has been good to replace them with brand new joy-con each time, but they haven't done anything to alter the design so the problem will come back. Case in point, my day one Switch I used the pro controller with so the joy-con had minimal use and worked fine. During COVID lockdown earlier this year we bought another and so the joy-con saw more use and pretty quickly developed drift. Those joy-con where replaced and then several months later replaced again. And now the right joy-con doesn't have drift but the pressing in the right joystick doesn't work and so the one needs replacement again.
So It's nice Nintendo is replacing defective joy-con, but the problem will show up at some point with every single joy-con out there (if used). This doesn't bode well for the longevity of the system after it's useful life, say when the Switch 2 releases and Nintendo is more reluctant to fix drifting controllers.
@EngineerMario Yeah, apparently this is just in Japan though for now. But who knows with so many purchases for Christmas maybe it's possible this shows up as a problem in North America soon enough. My sister-in-law picked up a Switch for her kids this Christmas, suppose it's worth opening to find out now instead of Christmas day.

Re: Poll: What's A Fair Price For The Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack?
$5 would be a great price, though I'd see it as $10. Also are we grouping single and family plan pricing together? So are we hoping/assuming both plans will only be $5 - $10 more per year?
Re: Teardown Suggests The Switch OLED Dock Is 4K 60fps-Ready And 'Future Proof'
From everything I've read the new dock's new HDMI 2.0 (4K ready) chip is actually specially wired to run the network adapter. So in this scenario it's likely that there is no 4K output option if the network adapter is in use. It would be nice if the dock supported 4K as that is the limiting factor on the Switch right now. Re: Metroid Dread's File Size Is Smaller Than First Thought
Not bad, though this will still need to go on a 8GB game card instead of a 4GB one. Nice for those downloading though.

I've already wasted over $60 in the game and got nothing of any consequence for my investment. I should have just kept it free.
Re: Splatoon 3 Was Just Announced, But Splatoon 2 Isn't Done Just Yet
Re: The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Will Feature amiibo Support, File Size Revealed
Re: The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Will Feature amiibo Support, File Size Revealed
Re: The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Will Feature amiibo Support, File Size Revealed
Re: Splatoon 3 Was Just Announced, But Splatoon 2 Isn't Done Just Yet
@SMW I'll just leave this here again. As excited as I am in Splatoon 3 getting a release year, we'll have had all three entries of Splatoon will have released since one year AFTER Mario Kart 8 was released. And the last two mainline entries of Smash have released six months AFTER Mario Kart 8. If we can get a new entry on the same console we should be able to get a new Mario Kart.
Re: Splatoon 3 Was Just Announced, But Splatoon 2 Isn't Done Just Yet
@RandomGamesAndStuff Splatoon 2 is still very relevant and a blast to play, I'd strongly encourage you to still grab it. There are great stages and even some great single player content.
Re: Nintendo Reveals Splatoon 3, Coming To Switch In 2022
@DK-Fan Yeah being upset about Splatoon 3 is pretty ridiculous. Most mainline shooters have nearly yearly entries on top of season passes. Splatoon offers so much for so little and what was shown today was great. Can't wait.
Re: Nintendo Reveals Splatoon 3, Coming To Switch In 2022
I'm soooo excited for Splatoon 3, but it's sobering that ALL three entries will have released since one year AFTER Mario Kart 8 was released. Not to mention two entries of Smash.
Re: Nintendo Is "Rigorously Responding" To Demand For Multiple Switch Consoles Per Household
4 Switches in our home. My day one Switch, the Christmas 2018 Switch, Christmas 2019 Switch, and then decided to also grab the Animal Crossing Switch this year and let my son use my day one console. So aside from my wife, we all have Switch consoles.
Re: More Than Five Million Bowser Were Defeated In Super Mario Bros. 35's World Count Challenge
@nessisonett Actual is "So Long Kinga Bowser". But yeah that one is more fun.
Re: More Than Five Million Bowser Were Defeated In Super Mario Bros. 35's World Count Challenge
I didn't play much, but 12 of them were mine. They actually popped up pretty frequently.
Re: Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit Decorations Are Now Redeemable On My Nintendo (Europe)
Nice, got my order in. Took a few minutes of refreshing but it finally went through.
Re: Nintendo Unveils Brand New 'Mario Red & Blue' Switch Console
Cool, but this also means that there will be no Switch Pro announcement until at least Februrary 20th or so. Come on Doug, give us Mother 3!
Re: Best Of 2020: All Hail The Game Boy Micro, The Sexiest And Most Impractical Game Boy Ever
Re: Mario Kart Tour Gets A New Year Update With RMX Rainbow Road 2
Re: Mario Kart Tour Gets A New Year Update With RMX Rainbow Road 2
@Iggy-Koopa I quickly learned this game was a big cash grab and stopped playing it. I'd easily shell out another $60 for the next console entry of the series or even just on DLC over this. This is basically a simple game about loot boxes where you pay for a chance to unlock a character. Paying in hundreds of dollars doesn't guarantee anything either, and at that point it's a pretty mediocre version of Mario Kart to begin with... but that hasn't stopped people from making this one of Nintendo's most lucrative games. It made roughly 38 million in it's first 30 days alone.
Re: Nintendo Apologises After Multiple Customers Receive Faulty Consoles Out Of The Box
Re: Nintendo Apologises After Multiple Customers Receive Faulty Consoles Out Of The Box
