Re: Poll: Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics Is Out Today On Switch, Are You Getting It?

Nico07

Preordered a physical copy from Best Buy due to be delivered today. With four Switch's in house and the option to play with those not having a physical copy on their console our family is bound to have some fun with this. Even the bowling looks really promising.

Hopefully Nintendo gives us a look at some of what we can look forward to the rest of the year at some point this summer.

Re: Review: Shantae And The Seven Sirens - Back To Basics Brilliance Leads To A Must-Have Metroidvania

Nico07

@Kirby_Girl Shantae games have historically been great 2D pixel based mobile platformers starting on the GBC before others were released on the DS and 3DS. Only more recently did they switch to hand drawn characters with their Kickstarter based Shantae and the Half Genie Hero on current consoles including the Switch. This is a continuation of that same art style with a few improvements. For me the gameplay and quirky story are top notch, been waiting on this game for a while. Most of their games go for a cartoon style image over a more realistic one.

Re: How Well Do You Know Nintendo Hardware?

Nico07

@JMR_Alden Yeah Lance Barr and his infamous high tech toaster design. He still works at Nintendo as a Design & Brand Director. He also designed the SNES, NES Zapper, NES Advantage, NES Max, and also worked on the Wii and Wii Nunchuk.

Re: PETA Isn't Happy With Animal Crossing's Blathers, Or His Fish-Trapping Museum

Nico07

I love animals and all, but because PETA wants something makes me want Nintendo to just completely ignore them (like they will). I mean PETA is a complete joke, marketing department a bunch of drunk frat boys ("I'd rather go naked than wear fur" was one of their slogans), etc, etc. You'd think they'd put their efforts into something worthwhile, like I don't know... protecting actual animals.

Re: Nintendo Download: 21st May (North America)

Nico07

Grabbing Minecraft Dungeons on Gamepass for sure. Had really hoped it would get a physical Switch release as we have several Switch consoles in house and wouldn't want to purchase it more than once. If there was a physical copy on Switch it would be a day one purchase for me. Still I may pickup a digital copy on Switch depending on how much we enjoy it.

Re: Review: The Elder Scrolls: Blades - A Grindy Free-To-Play Bastardisation Of Bethesda's RPG Classic

Nico07

I typically don't mind games like this. In fact, I downloaded, played through, and enjoyed a bit of the game. The big problem is that in games like this and Asphalt 9 Legends you reach a point about seven hours in where no amount of grinding or daily spins will get you any further in the game. And even in game purchases don't help much. Basically at that point the only way to progress is to drop $100 into a game that was a cheap iteration of games much more deserving of your hard earned money. It's at that point that you just go back to playing better games like the actual Skyrim.

Re: Perfect Dark Was Supposed To Have Push Button Cheats, But They Accidentally Got Deleted

Nico07

@Splatmaster There were a lot of projects like that back then. I remember Mission Impossible was hyped up by Nintendo Power to feature camera use for masks and eventual 64DD support for extra stages (like Ocarina of Time was supposed to have) with periodic releases. The game we actually got was a huge letdown in the case of Mission Impossible were they couldnt even get the controls down.

Re: Gallery: See How Much Better Xenoblade Chronicles Looks On Switch

Nico07

@sanderev As far as these screen shots, Xenoblade Chronicles has been redone in a different art style with completely new texture maps and artistic lighting, etc. I think the overall effect is great, but is definitely different than the original look. So not everyone will be happy with the result, but because these are new textures the colors and tones of many things are very different than the originals and it's easier to see the direct difference because of this. Like you said this is a bigger more noticable difference to many over ray tracing because with ray tracing the textures remain the same so you have to know what to look for (namely shadow casting, reflections, or global illumination).

RTX vs non-RTX is a big difference if you know what to look for. RTX (or rather ray tracing, RTX being the series of Nvidia cards supporting it currently) is used in few flavors right now namely shadows, reflections, and global illumination. It's basically realistic lighting effects. Ray tracing is really taxing on resources so very few games or demos make full use of all of the options and usually pick one or two varieties that the developers feel make the most impact in their game. Ray tracing is the ultimate real time realistic lighting, but like I said it has a huge cost. Developers have a lot of options to simulate ray tracing like effects but there is no direct equal to ray tracing or path tracing at this time.

Re: Nintendo Reconfirms Release Windows For Major Switch Games, And It's A Pretty Small List

Nico07

Would be amazing if Breath of the Wild 2 or Metroid Prime 4 released this year, but I highly doubt we'll see either until next year. And Metroid Prime is more likely I would say to be a 2022 title than anything else. Personally I'm really optimistic that the Super Mario Bros remasters hit this year, and I would LOVE to see Mario Kart 9 in Q4 or Q1 next year (fingers crossed). But in the meantime after Clubhouse games there isn't much except the Pokemon DLC this Summer and Fall. Hopefully (and likely) there are other unnamed titles coming out this year.

Re: We Won't Get A Nintendo Direct This June For E3, Says Report

Nico07

@rockodoodle I completely agree. And if they can't make an end of year release letting us know for a March 2021 release would work for me. It's just strange the way Nintendo is sharing so little since this past September's Direct. I think most of us are okay with giving them sufficient time to create new games, but the lack of any details on anything coming up is a little concerning and very out of place for how they have been for the past 20 years or so.

Re: We Won't Get A Nintendo Direct This June For E3, Says Report

Nico07

@sixrings I'm a pretty dedicated Nintendo fan, but still plan on grabbing the new consoles sooner than later, mainly to play enhanced versions of older games for now. I would have been way more excited to be picking up a Nintendo Switch Pro for the same reasons, but it seems like Nintendo just doesn't care to get us hyped for anything lately. Just sad. It would be nice if Nintendo gave us any indication of what they have planned for the next six to twelve months, because at this point we don't have anything to look forward to. Sure Metroid Prime 4 and BOTW 2 are coming, but I don't see these happening for at least another two or three years.

Remasters of some Mario games would be a great May announcement possibly for a summer or fall release. But at the same time it would be nice to know if anything is tentatively planned for later this year. If Mario remasters are announced in May, I think that would be enough to hold (at least me) over until a later summer announcement of what we could look forward to this fall or winter.

Re: We Won't Get A Nintendo Direct This June For E3, Says Report

Nico07

@Big_Nook I can see why you might not care, but honestly after Xenoblade Chronicles, Clubhouse Games, and Deadly Premonition 2, we don't know of anything coming out this year. The Mario remasters are a rumor. Personally I'd like to know what is planned for later this year, even if it doesn't happen. Could a new Mario Kart happen (that isn't a re-release of a 2014 game)? Ultimately it's up to Nintendo, but it's very uncharacteristic of Nintendo to go so long without some kind of information to get us hyped about what is coming (eventually).

Re: Video: 19 Exciting New Games Coming To Nintendo Switch In May

Nico07

@TrevorMcD If I'm not mistaken I believe WayForward came out last month giving the May release date. It's strange that it's not even listed in the eShop which could be why NintendoLife and others forget it.. I'm expecting a $20 or $30 price but we'll see. For me this is the game I'm looking forward to most this month. It would be nice if a physical release was happening, which it sounds like Limited Run will handle, but based on the last Kickstarted game they may release additional DLC so another ultimate or premium version may also release at some point.

As far as other games I've preordered the Xenoblade Chronicles Defenitive Edition Limited Edition game as well as possibly Minecraft Dungeons, if that one isn't delayed on Switch for $20. Will play Ninjala and may grab the Bioshock Collection.

Re: Reminder: Ninjala's Open Beta Starts Today, Join In On Switch For Free

Nico07

@Dang69 It seems that they possibly had some server issues and extended it accordingly. I hoped on around 8:30PM Pacific (based on another sites interpretation of when it would begin). I was able to create my character and do a practice round, but then it kicked me out. I then tried from 9PM to 9:20PM with no luck, just constant messages that the service wasn't available because it was outside the scheduled window. I then deleted and reinstalled the game and it worked right away. I wasn't able to actually hop on until after 9:30PM and then played until it booted me out at 10:30PM Pacific. So it would seem that they were having issues and couldn't start until around 9:30 so they extended until 10:30.

As far as the game, it was pretty fun. It took a few matches to get a handle on the controls, and I'm not sure I fully understand the in battle controls. I'll have to look up the left stick controls (red, green, blue directionals). Still it was fun and I was able to take first in several matches. Looking forward to it's release next month.

Re: Reminder: Ninjala's Open Beta Starts Today, Join In On Switch For Free

Nico07

@Paraka I agree with games being an investment of your time. Whether paid or free to play they can both be good. I'm fine with F2P so long as you can progress without mindlessly grinding. The only F2P game I can think of on Switch that requires this is Asphalt Legends. Basically after maybe six or eight hours in you get to a point where you literally don't have the cars required to progress in the game. I dont think any amount of grinding can get you past this short of spending at least $100 in real money for spins at cars or spend literally months on end of daily spins at a chance to unlock the cars needed. It's basically gambling at which point I had only spent $2 and walked away.

Re: It's Been Three Years Since Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Was Released On Nintendo Switch

Nico07

@arekdougy While strange to have two entries on one console, it's also strange that we got a re-release on the Switch to begin with. The formula for Mario Kart 8 has largely remained the same since it's release on the Wii U in May 2014. And if we don't get a unique Mario Kart game on Switch this would be the first console or handheld since the SNES to not have it's own exclusive Mario Kart entry. I completely understand that early in the Switch's life it made sense to re-release a three year old Mario Kart. But most of the Nintendo community assumed at that point that it was just to tide things over until a new entry could be developed. Now, three years later it's time to hear some news for Mario Kart. Mario Kart 8 on Wii U was great, and it's cheap $13 DLC made it the biggest and best entry to date. I think most of us would have been fine with another two or four cups of DLC for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, but given all of this time a new entry is really needed.

Re: Nintendo Switch Players Advised To Secure Accounts After Numerous Unauthorised Login Reports

Nico07

A good friend of mine sent me this screenshot, his account was hacked just days ago for $214.48 in Fornite v-bucks. So this is a fairly wide spread issue. There are two solutions here. Enable two factor authentication on your account as Nintendo suggests. Or optionally, don't save a credit card or paypal account to your profile and re-enter each time.

I also think Nintendo and Epic should trace whichever account ends up using these v-buck purchases and permanently ban that account.

Re: Review: Good Job! - This Laugh-Riot Feels Like 2020's Answer To Untitled Goose Game

Nico07

The conundrum of having so many titles available at the same time has left me sticking to New Horizons for now. I'll still likely pick this up sooner rather than later. But with Final Fantasy VII Remake, Resident Evil 3, and Trials of Mana among others out this month I've held off on picking this up so far. I still want to grab this, Jedi Academy, and Panzer Dragoon. That Nintendo Direct Mini caught me off guard.

Re: Poll: Has Your Family Bought A Second Switch To Play Animal Crossing: New Horizons 'Properly'?

Nico07

I bought the red/blue Switch at launch. Then bought the Splatoon 2 Switch for the family Christmas 2017. My stepson bought his own used early in 2018 (for around $220). We then did a second family Switch (new version) Christmas 2019. Now I bought the Animal Crossing Switch at release for the extended battery to potentially replace replace my day one Switch. But I am strongly considering gifting that Switch to the family as well. So if and when that happens we will be a five Switch family, crazy.

Re: Atlus Is Removing Code Of Princess From The 3DS eShop Next Week

Nico07

@OdnetninAges Code of Princess on the 3DS did have an English audio track missing from the fairly recent Switch/PC EX remaster. It's probably my biggest gripe against the game. The voice acting which included Laura Bailey was great and I'm really surprised it wasn't included even as an optional eShop download (or as purchasable DLC). But I suppose it's pretty standard for it's developer Nicalis to not add any patches or fixes to their games once released. The EX version also largely runs at around 720p which is my other disappointment with this game. While it's an enhancement over the 3DS, it's not nearly as impressive as it could have been. Still the game is great, I own a physical copy on Switch, it just had potential to be the definitive version of the game and fell short.

Re: Hands On: The Dongii Is A Switch Dock That Fits In Your Pocket, And We Love It

Nico07

@Bunkerneath I can see Nintendo's side on likely not wanting people to associate that this is officially Nintendo approved when it is not. Seeing Mario all over the Kickstarter page and then if it fries your Switch and Nintendo won't replace it, it would leave a bad image for Nintendo to some people. Hopefully this goes well, but if they end up sourcing cheap components I can see Nintendo's wish to not be associated with it.
