Re: Sega Ages Virtua Racing Speeds Onto The Japanese eShop Next Week

Nico07

@jobvd I was a Nintendo kid, but I'd imagine it was like the N64, a console that was supposed to be equal to it's arcade counterpart in games (Cruis'n USA, World, Exotica and Killer Instinct). The Saturn was supposed to get ports of games like Virtua Racing and Daytona. They must have been pretty exciting back then even though they were no where near what the arcade offered. I still love playing Killer Instinct or any of the Cruis'n games on my N64.

Re: Rumour: The Switch Pro Model Has Been Delayed Due To Technical Issues

Nico07

Would love to have either model confirmed by Nintendo, heck even Sony is confirming some basics about their PS5 set to release next year. This is the type of thing we should be having a Direct on... But anyway I'm personally more interested to see what the Pro model offers including to Labo VR. Still I suppose I can hold onto my money until Nintendo actually confirms the console so retailers can start taking pre-orders.

Re: Reminder: Reggie Fils-Aimé Retires As Nintendo Of America President Today

Nico07

Thanks for all the great times Reggie! Hopefully Doug Bowser can continue Nintendo's tradition of relatable celebrity status executives. I'm sure Reggie and Doug's marketing background gives them an advantage here. It seems the only other executive outside of Nintendo that has these same qualities would be Phil Spencer at Microsoft.

Re: Random: Cool Virtual Boy Easter Egg Discovered In Nintendo Labo VR

Nico07

@Pichuka97 Same, but I think it would work better with the Labo VR headset. The way the 3DS displays 3D the contrast of the red lines against the black background would leave a residual image from the other eyes view. Still if Nintendo did release Virtual Boy Virtual Console titles on 3DS (or Switch) I would likely pickup anything offered.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Direct Rumoured For This Week Could Be A Perfect Send-Off For Reggie

Nico07

I think a send-off for Reggie would be great and even an introduction to Doug Bowser, though most Directs of late have been run by Nintendo HQ in Japan instead of NOA. But yes, more details on what the Smash update includes are needed. It would also be a great time for a preliminary reveal of one or both Switch revisions. Early details on Animal Crossing would be great, maybe a few more details on Mario Maker 2 or some indie titles coming up. We are only two months away from E3 and Nintendo will only have time to cover so much in their conference that a little pre-E3 hype building can go a long way. Personally I'd love to hear what's going on with Mario Kart mobile or the next Switch specific Mario Kart title.

Re: Rumour: This Year's 'Budget' Switch Could Take The 2DS Route And Ditch A Killer Feature

Nico07

@russellohh My Switch is docked 99% of the time, so I guess we balance out. I'm fine if this is the route they take, we already have three Switch consoles in our house and a Switch "Mini" would have easily filled the need of two of them. I have my own, we have a family Switch, and my son bought his own. For my kids they all prefer to use them in handheld mode unless playing Minecraft or Mario Kart together on a bigger screen. Personally I'm more excited see what route the Switch "Pro" takes and if Nintendo patches any existing titles for added performance.

One Youtube channel I saw yesterday claimed he received news from an anonymous source with friends at Nintendo of America claiming there would be a Switch "Mini" and then "Pro" model this year but then a new Switch would also release the same year as PS5. At this point there are a lot of interesting rumors but the chance of two new models this year seems pretty high at this point. It would just be nice to hear these things from Nintendo "Direct"ly.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Is Releasing Two New Versions Of Switch This Year

Nico07

@Medic_alert Like I said most Switch games would better reach 1080p with a Tegra X2 but there would be a few likely capable of 4K at reduced frame rates. 2D Mario titles and Snipperclips would be prime examples of titles that could likely hit 4K. As you mentioned many titles on Xbox One X and PS4 Pro only hit 1400 or 1800 while there are some 3D titles that do in fact reach 2160 (4K) though most don't. For the Switch "Pro" most titles would fall in the 1080p 60fps or 1080p 30fps range. Again my assumptions are all that it would be using a Tegra X2. I've heard other rumors from other locations claiming that Nintendo of America employees with inside information shared that the Switch Pro this year would not use the Tegra X2 but be a slight performance boost only and that the Tegra X2 model would launch instead around the Sony PS5 launch.
Take all of this with a grain (or a heaping pile) of salt as these are all what if scenarios that may or not play out. I'm only starting that if they use the Tegra X2 4K is achievable on some select titles while 1080p or even a slight enhancement on that is also possible.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Is Releasing Two New Versions Of Switch This Year

Nico07

@Jokerwolf 4K is not as difficult to produce as you would think, it would obviously vary from game to game. Here are a few examples. Obviously not all titles would be able to support it such as Breath of the Wild. Breath of the Wild on Switch runs at around 900p and approximately 30fps. So a new Switch "Pro" using a TegraX2 (from some rumors) would likely be capable of running that game at 1080p/30 or maybe an unstable 60fps. Snipperclips would likely run at 4K, Mario Kart could potentially have a 4K 30fps mode as it already runs at 1080p/60. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 would be another title that would likely hit 1080p 30fps or potentially up to 60. New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe or even Super Mario Maker 2 could run at 4K 60fps.

So like the PS4 Pro or Xbox One X (no I'm not saying a Switch Pro would be as powerful), but individual games would vary but some titles would be able to scale up to 4K 60fps should the console have a dock with HDMI 2.0 and not just 1.4 (which would limit any max output to 4K/30fps). Again these are just rumors until Nintendo announces their official plans, I'm just speculating what the actual performance could be if a Switch Pro were to use the TegraX2 processor.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Is Releasing Two New Versions Of Switch This Year

Nico07

@westman98 I believe they are going off of past WSJ articles on a revised Switch from earlier this year and or October of last year. This article itself doesn't mention anything like that.

But yes, removing the HD Rumble and joy-con batteries alone will help cut costs. The new Switch "mini" would likely still work with existing docks, and likely pair with other joy-con, you just wouldn't be able to attach them to the console itself to charge.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Is Releasing Two New Versions Of Switch This Year

Nico07

Until this rumor I had dismissed that Nintendo would be releasing anything other than just a more economic model. If true, I'm on board for picking up a pro model. If it upscales or improves frame time it'll be a big welcome change for me. Digital Foundry speculated on this some time ago stating that it would likely use a Tegra 2 processor that would enable 4K in some instances and a more stable 1080p/60fps in others.

Re: Feature: GoldenEye Dev David Doak On Shaking (And Stirring) The FPS Genre On Console

Nico07

@andykara2003 I don't think it has aged badly at all. I would love to see it return in original glory at some point to a Nintendo or possibly Microsoft console (because of rights) potentially at just a higher resolution, but possibly an option for higher resolution texture maps. Still the game in my eyes is still beautiful, especially on a CRT television. The play controls especially hold up well compared to modern FPS games.

Re: Feature: GoldenEye Dev David Doak On Shaking (And Stirring) The FPS Genre On Console

Nico07

Hands down one of the greatest games I've ever played in part for nostalgia. Goldeneye did so many things right that even modern FPS games just don't do. Destructible objects in worlds including lights that actually darken the scene when shot out. Even filing cabinets and tables could be shot (and explode of course). It even featured stealth before other big genres came out with similar elements (Metal Gear Solid, Thief, etc). Graphically it doesn't hold up as well today as other games, but it and it's successor Perfect Dark are unique and great games I still go back and play from time to time. I still remember when this game released in August 1997, I don't think I played anything else for months.

Re: Guide: How To Fix A Drifting Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Analogue Stick

Nico07

@shaneoh I did this, but the problem returned shortly after. Not saying this is the case always, but I did end up doing the recalibrate option for a drifting right joystick that hasn't become a problem again in the past nine months. So it is nice to have these options that weren't there it seems even a year ago when I originally sent it in for repair.

Re: Talking Point: We Shouldn't Saddle Labo VR With Unrealistic Expectations

Nico07

I had fully expected this to be a minigame fest of games similar to Wii Play and 1-2-Switch. Given that there is no strap to hold any of these to your head it seems pretty secure that Nintendo doesn't plan on gamers having huge immersive experiences with these. Still I can hope that as they added a patch to Mario Kart 8 to support the Labo vehicle kit that a similar patch would become available as well for the VR kit. Still I can wait and be disappointed with the others that surely would love to see it even if it's completely ludicrous. The other thing that would be amazing if that came about would be Virtual Boy titles added to use this kit. But again these are the hopes of a Nintendo fanboy that will in no way come about. With that said I do see a strong chance of Nintendo not letting VR go and delving more into the tech potentially with another Switch 2 or similar device within five to ten years.

Re: Feature: Remembering The Wikipad, Stan Lee's Favourite Nintendo Switch Forerunner

Nico07

@rjejr pretty much, and I'm okay with that. I have two Nvidia Shield TVs that are great pieces of hardware but lack exclusive content. I mainly use them as amazing streaming boxes but Nvidias free game streaming service is also a nice feature that surely wont last forever. Nintendo and Nvidia teaming up is a great jointly beneficial partnership. Now if only they would release a Switch 2.0 revision using the Tegra 2 processor...

Re: Feature: Remembering The Wikipad, Stan Lee's Favourite Nintendo Switch Forerunner

Nico07

@retro_player_22 The SupaBoy is a great companion to the SNES library, but it's just that. It's a mobile system that relies on you having a good collection of old SNES cartridges that can be difficult or expensive to come by. It's also a dead console in that there are no new games being developed for it. I do like the idea and the dual controller ports up front. But if you're hinting that it plays SNES games where the Switch does not, I completely agree that this needs to be addressed with an update to the Switch Online service. I would love to have games like Super Mario World and Earthbound on the Switch.

Re: Feature: Remembering The Wikipad, Stan Lee's Favourite Nintendo Switch Forerunner

Nico07

Game consoles live and die by their games library. This is why even the high end iPad Pro isn't really a go to for gaming. Sure the hardware is powerful, but when you don't have dedicated games for your platform it dies as a games console. And yes, for the Wikipad attaching to a failed game streaming service was just a bad circumstance that ultimately sealed it's fate. The Switch on the other hand has a slew of console exclusives and remasters from the Wii U. To top that off it has a massive selection of indie and other content. Without games all cell phones, tablets, etc are just mobile devices with great potential for gaming, but poor excuses compared to Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft for great gaming experiences.

Re: Talking Point: Capcom’s Resident Evil Switch Pricing Is Nothing New

Nico07

RE4 is a great game that I never got around to beating. I can wait for it to go to $20 or less on a sale, or pair it with my Best Buy GCU discount to reach that price if a physical version releases. I have so many other games I can play in the meantime anyway so no loss here. I played ball with Capcom on Ultra Street Fighter II shortly after it launched, but $30 for a digital copy is a stretch even for me on this title.

Re: Grab Four Full Nintendo 3DS Games For Just A Handful Of My Nintendo Gold Points (Europe)

Nico07

@Azikira NOA has largely just done discounts of between 10 and 40% on a few select titles for 3DS and Wii U, especially the VC. Would be nice to see a few more rewards offered for Switch at this point, as well as a few titles like these.

Back in July 2018 we did get a few titles below for gold points alone:

Freedom Planet (Wii U) 110 Gold Points
Runbow Pocket (3DS) 110 Gold Points
Noitu Love: Devolution (3DS) 80 Gold Points
Severed (3DS) 110 Gold Points

It's easy to forget about it as that was the last time these rewards were offered to us on some pretty decent titles.

Re: Nintendo's Stance On Directs Hasn't Changed Despite Gap Between Presentations

Nico07

@jswhitfield8 I don't know if anyone is really demanding a direct, it's more like this is what we have been trained to be used to happening. Historically Nintendo just typically likes to share information in January. I can see them doing what they are now for a reason, likely just not having anything coming up until late March with Yoshi. Still it's atypical as we usually get an early glimpse at projects releasing this year or soon.

Re: These N64 Spine Labels Are The Perfect Way To Organise Your Game Collection

Nico07

I got these a few years back and love them. I've even peeled them off and reattached them to new games when I happen to come across a better condition cartridge than was already in my collection. https://www.etsy.com/listing/196193603/nintendo-n64-cartridge-spine-top-end

The labels unfortunately in all the images above are upside down from how they should be oriented. All NES and SNES games have their labels oriented so that the spine art is attached with the face label at the top. All of the images in this article have them oriented exactly opposite of that, not a big deal to some, but I'm obsessive compulsive about things like that I suppose.
