Re: Pokémon Support Explains What Happens When Your Premium Home Plan Expires

Nico07

@Silly_G I signed up for Pokemon Bank for a year when it launched in 2013. I didn't renew or use the service beyond that year. I then just went into it yesterday (with the one month free Pokemon Bank membership) to transfer all of my Pokemon to my paid Pokemon Home account and they were all still there in Pokemon Bank. So apparently we haven't reached the time frame where they are deleting from Bank.

Re: Talking Point: How Much Is Your Video Game Collection Really Worth To You?

Nico07

@NinChocolate Same. I remember selling my valued N64 collection with the component cable you could only buy from Nintendo directly. Console, six controllers (all in pristine condition), and maybe 10 or so boxed games for around $100 on eBay. At the time in college, I wasn't sure I'd play them much being busy with school and considering marriage. I even sold my preorder Nintendo Wii to help pay for my wife's wedding ring.
Now I'm out of college, married, and have three kids that I play games (including N64) with several times a week. I've slowly built my collection back up buying used as the price is right. I don't have everything I had before but my current collection is around 75 N64 games. I still need to rebuy Smash, Ocarina of Time (preorder gold cart), Majora's Mask and a few as I find deals, but ultimately I have a bigger collection in general now than I ever had before.

Re: Talking Point: How Much Is Your Video Game Collection Really Worth To You?

Like the article says I recommend creating a free account at https://www.pricecharting.com/
Here's my link for those curious:
https://www.pricecharting.com/offers?seller=fvzpfeakiqt52dybv2qyzq5aka&status=collection

It takes a little time but when you get your games inventoried there you'll have a more accurate idea of what your collection is worth especially over time. The site also features options to buy/sell/trade that I really don't use but hear good things about them. Personally I plan on just holding onto everything for now, but given another 10, 20, 40 years I may thin out my collection and hold onto just the games I enjoy more. Eventually I may just pass them on to my kids.

Re: Poll: What Features Would You Want In A Switch 'Pro'?

Nico07

This feels like it will be a 3DS to New 3DS XL type of upgrade, kind of a mid-generation refresh with a slightly more powerful CPU, potentially more RAM to support a game a developer like Monolith is requesting. In fact, the last time we got Xenoblade Chronicles 3D it was exclusive to the 3DS XL as the extra CPU was needed.

Personally I'm all for upgrading to a slightly more powerful Switch that would enhance the docked performance, as that's the primary way that I play anyway. With the techniques the Switch uses in game I would think it wouldn't be too difficult to scale a lot of games to higher resolutions with a small patch. If it meant boosting Breath of the Wild and Splatoon 2 to a full 1080p with more stable frame rates (Breath of the Wild), and maybe even push select games to 4K such as Snipper Clips or perhaps 1-2 Switch. Rendering out in 4K isn't impossible given certain games and special techniques. Granted even a Switch Pro would likely be less powerful than a PS4 but with smart use of features even LEGO games look and perform better on the current Switch than they do on the base Xbox One. Again it all depends on the games and what performance a future Switch Pro might have. I doubt a Tegra X2 would be used until the Switch 2, but anything's possible. My guess is a higher clocked Tegra X1 with additional RAM, and possibly a 1080p screen.

Re: TT Games Says LEGO Star Wars: Skywalker Saga Runs Like A "Dream" On Switch

Nico07

Considering TT has been able to get all LEGO games on Switch to run in parity to their Xbox One and PS4 counterparts speaks to the optimization and work they do. LEGO City Undercover was the first and it runs at 1080p (30 fps)on Switch while the Xbox One runs at 900p (but 60 fps). The PS4 also runs it 1080p 60 fps in level and then 30 fps in the main world. The PS4 also boasts some nice lighting flourishes but they are easily missed unless you see them side by side. All around I've been very impressed with LEGO games on Switch so far. Although LEGO on Wii U had the singular advantage in two player mode where each player would get their own screen, one the TV and the other the GamePad. It made for some great multiplayer.

Re: Hardware Review: Race Away With Mario Kart Pro Mini & Deluxe Racing Wheels

Nico07

For those interested, GameStop has the Mario Kart Deluxe Pro Racing Wheel for $99 with free shipping, cheaper than PlayAsia.

I had bought and returned the smaller child wheel from Amazon as the suction cups and construction seemed fairly cheap. I had been eyeing the Deluxe from PlayAsia but wasn't interested in the pre-launch $180 price tag. $99 is much better.

Re: Introducing The 64Mate, A New All-In-One N64 Storage Add-On "Launching Soon" On Kickstarter

Nico07

@Deanster101 That's what I was thinking. Somehow I had much more ambitious ideas of what this device would be. That it would interface through the expansion slot and allow for game backups, N64 DD emulation, homebrew, upscaling via HDMI with external processing. Sadly this is none of that. Would love to one day see an N64 emulation box that can output 1080p, let you run ROM edits with improved texture maps, audio, etc.

Re: Random: Now Pokémon Sword And Shield Haters Are Asking Trump To Halt Sales Of The Game

Nico07

No Presidential policy is needed. If you don't want the game, don't buy it. If the sales of this game were so poor Game Freak would obviously change their formula in a future update or new game.
But I don't think there is anyone who doubts these games will sell very well. Personally I'm picking up the steelbook pack tomorrow morning. I could see Game Freak giving fans more of what they want in the future, but if you look at their history Pokemon games don't change that much generally from year to year. Their last big jump was going to X and Y on the 3DS and then to console in HD just last year with Pikachu and Eve. Sure it would be great to see more Pokemon but they've already said it's a task that is getting too difficult to do.
The last thing anyone of us should want is government to get involved in video games weather it be through tariffs or content censorship. IF President Trump were to get involved (which he won't) things wouldn't go the way this group plans them to go.

Re: Review: Garfield Kart Furious Racing - A Rancid, Regurgitated Hairball Of A Racer

Nico07

But what we all want to know is does it have that great rubber banding we all know and love? I know it's terrible but how does it compare to Meow Motors (interestingly missing a review by NintendoLife)? I can grab Garfield Kart Furious Racing for $15 at Best Buy after a $10 giftcard reward and GCU discount, putting it in line with Meow Motors. Meow Motors was a fun game to play through once for this price point, though not as good as Mario Kart to go back to really ever again.

Re: The Elder Scrolls: Blades For Switch Requires An Online Connection

Nico07

@KitsuneNight Yeah, I hadn't forgotten this game was coming but I'm not even that enthusiastic about its release. I'm way more excited for Luigi's Mansion and Mario Sonic coming this week and then Pokemon in two. Past that Nintendo really doesn't have much coming soon so I may have time after the games I've mentioned. As for Asphalt 9 I've put in 15 hours and reached a pay wall. I paid the $2 for the Porsche early on but told myself that was it. At this point the game doesn't offer any real way to progress without either grinding or paying massive amounts of money. I haven't played Blades yet, but would imagine it has a similar theme.

Re: Mario Kart Tour's Diddy Kong Pack Costs £39, The Same Price As Mario Kart 8 Deluxe On Switch

Nico07

I've already unlocked Diddy Kong, no pack needed for me. I also tried out the Gold Pass on the free two week trial and got the golden blooper car but nothing else. The 200cc cups were fun and really only 150cc when you compare them to the Mario Kart 8 as far as speed goes. With the last cup I unlocked nearly everything getting a complete on nearly every single cup and rank 13. But even with all of that I didn't get Mario, Pauline, or any of the special costumes. I like the game enough as a mobile game but even with the Gold trial l didn't get anything worth paying for so I don' t plan to pay anything toward the game going forward.

Re: Feature: "Nintendo Killed My Son!" - Pulling Apart A Tragic Headline More Than Two Decades On

Nico07

@johnvboy It's sensationalism and they were going for emotion when they plastered it as a headline. Then any concerned parent would of course want to pick it up to find out what they needed to be aware of. Today Google, Facebook, and others will still use Sun articles in news feeds for articles you could be reading now. If I was looking at this article on my phone it would probably have one of their articles linked below.

The click-baity article itself contradicts it's own title when it states "Jazz's grieving mom said she doesn't blame the Nintendo company for her son's tragic death", yet they paste a giant front page title stating otherwise. The only good thing to come out of this were likely seizure warning screens, but other articles they publish push the same emotions on religion and other things citing sources that have no basis. Like other tabloids they are a mockery of journalism and should do some basic research before miseducating the public.

Re: Feature: "Nintendo Killed My Son!" - Pulling Apart A Tragic Headline More Than Two Decades On

Nico07

@ShinyUmbreon It's an article by the Sun, the big British tabloid... so yes, it is a joke. The Sun publishes about anything sensational without doing what would seem basic fact checking even. Another site I used to sadly visit for gaming news was "The Motley Fool" where they publish tech news often pretty slanderous about Nintendo, again often times as one sided opinion pieces published as fact (typically lacking any real facts).

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #10 - GoldenEye 007

Nico07

@Shiryu True, I was looking them over and the Japanese version makes it really easy to see the definition in his hands so Bond doesn't look like a stroke victim. That and Xenia Onatopp doesn't have her face completely removed. There is a lot going on in the Japanese version, but I like the simplicity of NA box.

Re: Billy Mitchell Threatens To Take Legal Action Against High-Score Sanctioning Bodies

Nico07

If I remember correctly he was caught "cheating" by submitting a score from non-standard arcade equipment. It didn't seem like he ever admitted to it though there were a few tells from the video that it was emulation. He needs to man up and own up to what he did and earn some cred back. I don't doubt that he's a good DK player (may or may not be the best), but once your caught cheating it's a slippery slope that people are always going to be looking for him to slip up again. The saying comes to mind, "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me."

Re: The Physical Version Of Spyro Reignited Trilogy On Switch Will Require A Sizable Download

Nico07

I can see both sides to this argument. For Activision's side they are releasing a game that has been on the market for over a year and they aren't sure what the sales numbers will be. They also likely don't want to opt for the larger cartridge size because that would be additional expense that they may have to eat. And this is more or less a budget release already at $40 for physical or digital so they aren't wanting to take on too much risk. To top that off they've already opted on earlier (much larger) releases on PS4 and Xbox One to have required downloads instead of including a second disc.

For the consumer standpoint when you buy physical you are buying it over digital for a reason. Some for security that when the eShop doesn't support the Switch that you can still play the game on your Switch without needing an unavailable download. I don't think most people buying physical in this situation would mind paying a little more (maybe $10) for a larger cart over the digital release just to have the whole game. I know in our house we have two Switches and so swapping carts is a nicety since we can't share accounts (yet). In this case it's not a problem, but with other physical releases like Wolfenstein 2 I believe it was just a download code in the box, so what's the point of buying physical then? Also space is limited on the Switch especially if you haven't afforded a large SD card yet. Those are getting cheaper so it's less and less of an excuse now. And finally some just buy the physical version because it's the one on sale, or they plan to resell later.

Re: Square Enix Confirms Final Fantasy VIII Remastered Will Be A Digital-Only Release

Nico07

@Kintypoo121 Your idea works pretty well for the here and now. But for those wanting a physical version it doesn't help years down the road if you are using a different version of the hardware that isn't able to validate the game purchase digitally. I've dealt with swapping from one microSD card to another larger on the same console even and I ended up just having to redownload everything as copying the data directly wasn't validated by Nintendo.
I'm not one pushing for this game to get a physical release but I can see why some would.

Re: Microsoft Has "No Plans" To Bring More First-Party Exclusives To Other Consoles

Nico07

@biglittlejake Right, Microsoft would likely have you buy their hardware to play the latest games anyway. But with the original Halo games I don't really see those as system sellers at this point. They could even sell them individually at $10 each and likely get a lot of sales on Switch. The other game that would be great would be RARE Replay especially with Banjo coming to Smash. It would be a great nostalgia trip for longtime Nintendo fans and nice to see them on a handheld.

Re: Microsoft Has "No Plans" To Bring More First-Party Exclusives To Other Consoles

Nico07

It would be too bad if they didn't release the Master Chief Collection on Switch. It would be such a perfect fit. But then again this could just be they have "no plans" to announce anything yet. I see this as corporate speak on their end similar to Nintendo stating there would be no new hardware at E3 and then a month later two new revisions. But then again that was probably one of the worst kept secrets in video games.

Re: Review: Pandemic - A Too-Simple Conversion That's Looking A Little Green

Nico07

I picked up Asmodee's last entry on Switch, Catan on release day and instantly regretted it. For a multiplayer board game they forgot to include local multiplayer. The only multiplayer in that one is online, so if you want to play with family you need two or more Switches and two or more copies of the game. It's a little lame as with the two joy-con the game would have worked great. They've since updated the page to state it is single player with online multiplayer. But at least personally I don't plan on buying any more of their digital games.

Re: Deals: Starlink: Battle For Atlas Starter Pack Drops To A Ridiculous £9.99 In The UK

Nico07

I bought the digital deluxe version on Switch when it first launched but then rebought at $20 from Best Buy to have the physical Arwing. This was around the holidays last year and they ended up sending me an extra three copies of the physical Xbox One edition. When I called up their support I was told to just keep them. So I ended up just gifting them to friends.

I've since bought up most figures and weapon packs available as well as the recent Star Fox team DLC pack on Switch. Now if only the overpriced Season 2 DLC would go on sale...

Re: LEGO Jurassic World Roars Onto Nintendo Switch This September

Nico07

@Madder128 Wii U is where I first played it years ago and it was really fun there. For me the best part of all LEGO games on Wii U was the local multiplayer. One player could have their own screen on the TV while the other would have the GamePad as their screen. So the dual screen experience was really cool and different than all other versions of the games where you have the pinwheel split-screen alone.

Re: LEGO Jurassic World Roars Onto Nintendo Switch This September

Nico07

@kcook33 I would guess this will be a $40 title based on the other recent releases like the LEGO Harry Potter Collection, but then again that was two games in one so it could potentially be cheaper as this is just one game. The sad part is that this regularly sales for $5 on Steam, Xbox One and even Playstation 4 so there's that. I enjoyed this one but will likely wait a few months for it to drop to the $15 price I have bought into every other Switch LEGO release this year. I'd guess as soon as Black Friday it could be on sale into early next year around March or so it will likely regularly be discounted.

Re: The Dinosaur Hunter Returns To Switch Next Month In Turok 2: Seeds Of Evil

Nico07

I loved both games back as a kid on the N64 but will hold out on buying either until a decent sale. The first game has yet to go on sale on Switch. Despite being digital only the first game has been $5 many times on Xbox One and the Turok 2 $8. I'm not going to support the developer gouging Switch owners for the technically inferior version.
