Re: Movie Review: GoldenEra - A Celebratory Examination Of GoldenEye 007's Creation And Impact

Nico07

We still need this game playable on modern consoles. Granted I still have an N64 with a copy of the game, but that doesn't help the masses enjoy and experience this classic. Still holding out for news on a remaster potentially inbound for Xbox and Switch. Again, playing on original hardware or even an emulator works for some, but to reach the masses we need a rerelease for such a legendary game.

Re: Rumour: Down Time For 'My Nintendo Store' Could Point To A Direct Next Week

Nico07

At a minimum we are due up for some news on the promised Mario Kart 8 DLC. They've committed to new content every four months, so we should get that by the end of July at the latest, or potentially Wednesday. It's just suspect their has been no word on it until now as if they wanted to save it for a Direct and release the same day.
I would love to see a Direct that at best could announce a Switch Pro, but could also potentially be nothing at the same time. I guess we'll see. Not loving the lack of news from Nintendo around E3 season the second week in June.

Re: Nintendo Switch Online - Every NES, SNES, N64 And Sega Genesis Game Available

Nico07

It's great to see these collections grow over time with some great titles available. There are a few shortcomings like many titles still being unavailable that would be great additions. And hopefully someday the ability to buy to own certain titles or collections. It would be cool if, but I doubt Nintendo ever would release a cartridge of the entire service or individual console compilations as they are at some point. Could you imagine say the Super Nintendo Collection getting a physical release and having games like Earthbound on a Switch cartridge? I'll dream.

The service is a great entry point for those newer gamers that don't have other ways to play these games. Gamers that are even young adults in their twenties could have never played some of these series origin games for fan-favorite franchises. As much as I'd like to see more acclaimed titles show up it is also cool to see obscure titles hit the service that maybe didn't get an official North American (or rather English) release.

Re: Nintendo Responds To Wii And DSi Shop Channel Outages

Nico07

@Joeynator3000 The problem is that Nintendo announced the calendar for the Wii U and 3DS shops to stop digital sales, but not a closure date for redownloads. What has everyone concerned is that the Wii eShop wasn't supposed to close for redownloads of digital purchases, it just went away with no notice. So for that reason people are concerned the same will happen with the Wii U and 3DS.
Ultimately the Shops will someday go away for redownloads but that should be announced so customers can plan and download any software they want to keep before it's gone. The digital future, it's bleak. That's why I try and get physical copies when possible. Though I do have many digital purchases across the Wii, Wii U, and 3DS among other consoles.

Re: Random: Sorry GameCube, LeBron James Likes The Nintendo 64 More

Nico07

Well technically the N64 is the better system. We had Nintendo jump into the realm of 3D 64-bit graphics with a scientifically superior controller . While Sony went to market with a d-pad, Nintendo released an analog joystick. Nintendo also released the Rumble Pak before Sony had rumble in their controllers. The N64 had fast rambus memory so games would load very quickly compared to Playstation. Games like Mario 64, Smash, Mario Kart 64, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Cruis'n series, WCW NWO, 1080, Wave Race, Banjo, Ken Griffey, etc. The console had a great range of exclusives.

Yes, the console had it's pitfalls (like all consoles) in limited storage, textures, blurry AA. But especially at the time it was Nintendo not being afraid to take risks and offer a powerhouse of a home gaming console. I still love the Gamecube, but the N64 is a more nostalgic console for me.

Re: Random: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Players Really Want Nintendo To "Fix" Coconut Mall

Nico07

Coconut Mall is easily the most disappointing of the DLC line. The lack of moving cars at the end stretch. The escalators look and play very differently than on the Wii. The Wii version also featured Mii characters standing around in the Mall, this Mall in turn has only a couple NPCs. And overall the general look of the Mall just even seems better on the Wii original. I'd say fix a few details like the cars at the least, and then if nothing else let us know when the next DLC will land. To be on schedule it should be by July at the latest.

Re: Feature: What's Your Biggest Nintendo Launch Day Regret?

Nico07

Thinking back I have few launch day regrets. Obviously, with any new console there will be small libraries with games that are questionably priced. For Switch that was Bomberman R, 1,2,Switch, and even Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers. I don't regret getting these games as until recently I had Best Buy's Gamer's Club Unlocked so I was getting any game at 20% off. But that said it was these games were obviously priced higher than they should have been.
The 3DS, and it getting a price cut. But that was made up with the Ambassador Program that was a nice way to get several games only available through that program.
The Wii U was pretty hyped up and NintendoLand was a little disappointing but still a decent game. We went through the whole generation of the Wii U with promises of a new Zelda game only to have Breath of the Wild be a Switch launch day release. Link is literally holding a Wii U GamePad for puzzles, maps, inventory, etc. Yet the game we got (while great) doesn't utilize so much the GamePad promised to offer the game even on Wii U.
So again no major regrets, just a few disappointments, and what could have been dreams.

Re: Feature: What's Your Biggest Nintendo Launch Day Regret?

Nico07

@Erigen Not sure Star Fox Zero was a "launch day" regret. But I agree, I picked that game up as well and the controls are not intuitive at all. The fact that you have to control and play the game from the screen in your hands while the TV is displaying the game you want to see and play. It's just complex for complexity's sake and not fun to play like the original. Had they just patched the game to allow traditional controls it would have been a million times better.
One of the developers is even petitioning Nintendo now to port it to the Switch for Star Fox's anniversary. Which if they could do so with a traditional control scheme would be a much better way to enjoy the game.
Funny enough, I recall an interview with Miyamoto around the game's launch when he was asked by Youtuber "The Completionist" about the games delay and Miyamoto's quote "A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever." Miyamoto's translated reply was "I said that?" https://youtu.be/Nqpr3uK5rcY?t=700

Re: Rumour: Sonic 2 Movie Could Be Arriving Soon On Paramount+

Nico07

@Hydra_Spectre Paramount has done some great 4K releases.
My only gripe of sorts is the digital side of these releases as I love VUDU and or MoviesAnywhere and would love to have everything in one place. So hopefully Paramount someday joins the MoviesAnywhere bandwagon like Apple, Google, VUDU, and others have done. Being able to link all your services in one place is a nice thing.

Re: Former Nintendo Employee Admits He's Frustrated With Switch Online

Nico07

@Funneefox That's it exactly. I believe Kit is saying that the perceived value isn't there for many players. Nintendo has a rich history of games that a lot of people enjoy but they aren't focusing on what people want. We want more regular releases communicated to us. We want the option to buy individual games to keep like the Wii VC had. We would love to see more platforms like GB, GBA DS, GameCube and maybe even a few select Wii titles or ports. With support going away for older eshops we just want convenient ways to play these classics on a modern console like Switch.

Re: Random: Nintendo's Bowser Praises Cub Scouts On 'Arrow Of Light' Achievement

Nico07

@-wc- They tried to redefine "boy scout" to include girl scouts as well which the Girl Scouts organization did not want. They also lost a huge base in religious groups by removing religious standards they have had for years. Shortly after they faced a large lawsuit for sexual assault allocations from thousands of former scouts. Really the organization is having an identity crisis and needs to regroup.

Re: Random: Nintendo's Bowser Praises Cub Scouts On 'Arrow Of Light' Achievement

Nico07

Good on Doug for taking the time to acknowledge the accomplishments of these young scouts. Still, the Boy Scouts of America organization as of late is a joke. They've basically relaxed their standards until they have none. So while I also congratulate these boys, and am an Eagle Scout myself, the BSA administration just isn't what it used to be.

Re: Random: 22 Years Ago Today The Nintendo 64DD Had More Online Features Than Switch

Nico07

@Vyacheslav333 That would be a cool addition to the Nintendo Switch Expansion Pack that I would love to see. Back in the day I remember reading about the 64DD in Nintendo Power and being sold on it's planned addition to the then unreleased Mission Impossible and being able to scan your face in on the GB Camera and then transfer it to the 64DD for face masks. When it didn't release in the West it was disappointing for many. For now I've had fun going back to it via an Everdrive 64 x7 and the english fan translations. But yes, it would be cool to see Nintendo add this themselves.

Re: Feature: 16 Tracks That Need To Be In The Mario Kart 8 DLC

Nico07

Good list, though I feel Moo Moo Farms is a little redundant of the existing Moo Moo Meadows but maybe that's just me. I'm seeing a lot of requests for Waluigi Pinball from the DS and I agree that we will likely see that. I would like to add DK mountain from Gamecube as the course was great and on Gamecube offered the opportunity to take a shortcut skidding off an edge, though if you didn't make it or were hit would cost you a bit of time. But maybe for that reason we won't see this or Wario Stadium from the N64.

I wish they were adding Block Fort from the Nintendo 64 to the battle arenas as well as Diddy and Funky Kong. Gotta dream.

Re: Nintendo Minute's Kit And Krysta Reveal Why They Left The Company

Nico07

It was a decent series. I enjoyed the shopping spree episodes at the employee store and New York. Also the unboxings were entertaining, and the partnering with fans in the community. Still there are other partners that Nintendo shares product with who will do the same. I didn't watch all the episodes but many of them. They'll be missed but I think the community will move on. The biggest disappointment is it seems this was one of the direct NOA YouTube series that won't be around. So it will be even less from NOA.

Re: Soapbox: Don't Cheer For Corporate Takeovers - It's Not A Game

Nico07

@Kilroy My only point was that Sony started the $70 MSRP for "next-gen" games. It was from their encouragement that Activision and Square (among a couple others) have adopted the same $10 price increase. Prior to that DLC was what developers have been doing for nearly two decades to recoupe extra money. I know games have largely been $60 for too long and I'm not making an argument that they should continue to be that. Pricing will adopt whatever the consumer is willing to pay.

I personally think it's a way that Sony is trying to handle selling across two generations. As they haven't fully moved to PS5 development they want consumers to see a benefit in paying $10 more for enhancements over the $60 PS4 version. If both were the same price they could have a difficult time selling the PS4 version. Whereas now some will play on PS4, and then maybe pay $10 more if and when they buy a PS5.

I remember as a young kid going into Toys R Us and finding some SNES games in the 90s selling for $80. Consumers are free to buy what they want and time will tell if people largely accept a price increase on base games. There are definitely other ways to make money as DLC has worked well, especially for some free to play games like Fortnite. A lot of consumers dislike the price increase for say NBA 2K22 when a PC version has those "next-gen" features for the $60 price. But then they add DLC, in game currency and a season pass. Again it's not for me but it must sell otherwise they likely wouldn't offer it. Personally I think a $70 price tag could work but it would have to be across the board (Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, PC).

Re: Soapbox: Don't Cheer For Corporate Takeovers - It's Not A Game

Nico07

@ATaco Usually when a company has a profitable month/year/title it motivates them to continue doing more of whatever that is. It's what motivated Activision to make yearly Call of Duty titles at the cost of some quality. Though on the other hand you have Rockstar sitting on GTA VI as GTA V continues to pull in money since 2013, and the same for Nintendo with Mario Kart 8 since 2014. If these companies don't struggle they don't push themselves to change, do more, or make better entries. It generally hurts creativity as they assume people want what they have been getting and paying for. For Nintendo they were stuggling to sell during the Wii U era. They tried a new idea with Splatoon that took off and now we are getting more of it... as well as ports of all of the other games no one bought back then. We also have Pokemon that makes sooo much money they haven't really tried to innovate until Legends Archeus (which to me has been a great shift). Companies generally just aren't willing to chance something not accepted by the public and stick to what sells.

Re: Soapbox: Don't Cheer For Corporate Takeovers - It's Not A Game

Nico07

Big Gaming Corporations buying other studios pros and cons:
Pros:
More exclusives for gamers on that platform
Potential for better management
Potential for better cooperation between studios (ie Monolith Soft to Nintendo)
Potential for more entries in popular series
Cons:
Less cross-platform titles or restricted gated access for competing platforms
Chance of seasoned programmers or veterans leaving for other studios
Less risky game entries, including smaller selling franchises
Potential for higher game prices (Sony wanting all their published games to be $70)

These are just a few things that came to mind thinking back on Rare and others after acquisitions. There are definitely things to look forward to, but there could be unforeseen consequences as well. Time will tell if these mergers will benefit gamers, though it likely won't benefit Nintendo gamers overall.

Re: Devs Speak Out Against Crunch Culture At LEGO Star Wars Developer TT Games

Nico07

It seems every workplace out there typically has some type of crunch. Where I work in IT, the crunch rolls around every three weeks or so, as well as any outage or planned maintenance, and or after hours support calls. For me it's just part of the job, yet for others that have come and gone they typically either take it or leave it. I suppose it is what it is. This report seems a bit dated, but could still be common. Sad to hear if true, I've enjoyed pretty much every single title with my kids and look forward to this one as well. The wait looks to have been worth it.

Re: Tilted Towers Returns To Fortnite, And Now There Are Dinosaurs

Nico07

@BerendJan I was late to the party and only joined on at Christmas last year, so Chapter 2, Season 5. Since then I've managed to get the most out of each season. I had originally missed out blowing the game off from it's negative press image. I can safely say all of the negativity is largely false and the game is a very decent shooter. I just kick myself at times for not buying in during Chapter 2, Season 4 and missing out on all of the Marvel content.

Re: Nintendo Minute's Kit And Krysta Say Goodbye In Their "Final Episode"

Nico07

@Tourtus I think so. Ever since Doug Bowser has taken the reigns NOA has been media silent. To be fair Reggie wasn't a hugely social guy, but we rarely hear from NOA anymore. It could be anything from the ongoing COVID pandemic/endemic, etc causing a lack of events and communication as time goes on. Hopefully things turn around eventually as it would be nice to hear more from NOA eventually.
I didn't love or watch every single Nintendo Minute episode, but Kit and Krysta were genuinely entertaining. Some favorite episodes were showing off new hardware, some of the quizzes, and the more recent Nintendo Store and Best Buy Christmas charity shopping spree episodes.

Re: Review: Mario Party Superstars - A Party Most Hearty

Nico07

@moakle If you live in the US you can have your Joy-con repaired (or typically just replaced) by Nintendo. We have five Switch consoles in our home and I have sent in at least a dozen Joy-con sets at this point. Twice I received back beat-up (but working) controllers, while every other time I've received brand new controllers.
