The Nindies@Home promotion may have arrived in North America and across Europe yesterday, but one area on the map which falls under the PAL region has been left behind due to local classification laws.
Nintendo’s branch down under has revealed the nine game demos, including a 15 percent discount on the final releases, will need to be officially classified by the local board first before the promotion can go ahead in both Australia and New Zealand.
Nintendo Australia released the following statement via Facebook explaining it is currently working with developers to make it happen:
The Nindies@Home programme has been announced by Nintendo in North America and Europe, where fans can access free preview versions of nine Nindie games from Nintendo eShop for Wii U for a limited time.
Down Under, unlike America and Europe, game demos need to be officially classified before their release, therefore in this region we require more time for these titles to be made available.
We are currently working with the developers to make it happen in Australia and New Zealand.
We thank you for being patient. Please stay tuned for further
updates!
At this stage there is no guarantee Australia and New Zealand will receive the Nindies@Home promotion. On a more positive note, it is refreshing to see the company directly acknowledging matters rather than keeping local fans in the dark.
If you live in either Australia or New Zealand, let us know in the comments how you feel about all of this. If you live elsewhere, tell us how much fun you’ve been having with the nine demo games that are a part of the Nindies promotion.

wow sad.
I mean really?
Eh, I'll just change my console's region to England with a second NNID. No problemo.
Edit: Forgot to mention that I was literally just looking for them on the Aus eShop. But I'm downloading them now, region swapping works fine.
@Mario_maniac but then you won't get the discount???
Also do you actually have to play the demos or what?
if you can just DL them I'll do that.
@Uberchu Not on the main NNID, no, but the second one that can access the games would be able to in the promo period. We'd be paying in foreign currency but we'd still have a discount.
@Mario_maniac
ahh ty
makes me wonder how good the 15% off discount is after the games launch, or if its a perm discount then what happens if the dev does a good sale on them...
50% off +15% off would end up being too good to pass up tbh.
Would this be a problem if the Nintendo eshop was a participating storefront with the International Age Rating Coalition?
I feel like screw Australia and it's dumb laws! I'm a New Zealander dammit! At least we get good amiibo stock...
Damn. Next thing you know, AVGN for 3DS will be banned.
Poor Australian gamers, they're always getting screwed with classification laws and high prices for games.
@Uberchu
The 15% off is valid for a month after that game's release. Hopefully developers can wait a month before a discount...
Maybe...
@Usagi-san
If Nintendo eShop participated in the IARC it wouldn't be a problem. Hopefully they get it sorted, as it is we just make a second NNID and set it to UK region
Nanny state is at it again! But hey at least you have the best Amiibo stock around.
@Captain_Gonru Why would that be a problem? You only need to answer a few questions and get your ratings for all kind of regions immediately after that. It's also free.
Thank god! I don't need any more temptation. I need to do something more constructive with my life than play all these silly games. I hope this E3 is a dud year cos i really need to grow up and start being a man
Of course! Typical f@#$%?% Australia!
@LordGeovanni wheres the source its one month? D:
might have to buy them all during the first month fml.
