Re: Feature: Tackling A Timey Wimey Virus In Doctor Who: The Edge Of Reality

The real question now is will RTD be able to do what he wants with the forward progression of the series, especially given his pedigree and influence since he left over eleven years ago, or will the big wig execs at BBC strongarm him into safe, easily digestible derivative garbage?

Another thing to note, DW has literally ALWAYS been political; to cry foul that recent DW has been too PC, SJW pandering, or whatever, I always ignore these outcries.

Calling foul for Chibbs simply being an awful writer and terrible show runner is acceptable, however.

@VoidofLight The toys to life craze is still alive (however much life support it may need) in the form of amiibos and will continue to be alive until at least the last Smash DLC amiibo is released.

Also, given the recent Mario 3D World, Zelda Skyward Sword, and upcoming Metroid Dread amiibos, I wouldn’t be surprised if Breath of the Wild 2 gets an amiibo, and I doubt that game will come out until 2023, so cheers to two more years of sluggish amiibo releases!

Re: Talking Point: As The Fan-Made 2D Metroid Prime Game Is Shut Down, Where Do You Stand On Nintendo's Takedowns?

Nameless_Shame

I don’t even play fan games, but I watched a play through of Prime 2D and thought it was stunning.

With the Switch being as dominating as it is, especially with Dread releasing soon and it’s obvious crazy pre-order numbers, Nintendo has nothing to lose from a dedicated group of fans making an incredible fan game for people to play for free.

Now, if they were developing their own AMP2D game, then I’ll shut up, but that ain’t happening.

In conclusion, blah blah legal rights blah blah every right to shut it down blah. I don’t mind Ninty’s legal team going after for profit rom dumps, but a dedicated fan game that looked that good just seems unnecessary.

It’s nice to see some love for poor Other M in the comments. It’s definitely not without its problems (especially the first person BS, the story, and Samus’s characterization), but for a different angle on such a prestigious legacy, it really did a lot of things I liked, too.

Definitely the weakest of every Metroid release since Super, with the exception of Federation Force. Pinball was dope as hell, though.

Re: Talking Point: Every Pre-BOTW 3D Zelda Now Has A Remake, But Which Is Best?

Nameless_Shame

The MM3D changes still baffle me. Like, seriously, what were the complaints that caused these changes? I honestly didn’t mind the Stone mask location change or even the boss battles, honestly (except Twinmold, eff that mess).

But Zora swimming and Deku hopping were the most intuitive and easy to pick up and utilize aspects of reach of their respective mask transformations. There was simply no good reason to change what not only wasn’t broken, but became worse because of meddling.

If Nintendo were ever in need of a re-remake, Majora’s Mask 3D is it.

Re: Feature: The Many Faces Of Donkey Kong, Nintendo's 40-Year-Old Gorilla

Time lines in Zelda are ubiquitous in nature because of the simple retreading of the major overarching storyline.

Time lines in Donkey Kong are jokes because of English localizations. Much like Mario no longer being a plumber, modern Donkey Kong’s heritage is not tied to an instruction manual from the mid nineties. How can a single time gap of specifically thirteen years be the only prominent space of time to age arcade DK into Cranky Kong while nothing ages Mario and Pauline? How can Tiny Kong outgrow her older sister Dixie Kong?

None of this matters and the only thing we need is the return of Swanky, Kiddie, and Chunky, all of whom will be reintroduced after twenty-five and twenty-two years, respectively, as corpses to show what happens when a prominent Kong goes MIA for more than a decade.

@Ghostchip I certainly didn’t hate the DS Zeldas, I just thought that the forced implementation of touch controls not only felt tacked on at the time, but made the games that much harder to go back and fully enjoy after the whole “touch generation” gimmick fell to the wayside, especially given that even the 3DS backed off a considerable amount with its first party efforts to force the stylus.

Which poses an even bigger threat for potential proper rereleases of these games in the future. Granted, the Wii U was an appropriate device to give them a second chance, but if anything, it just proved to me that the game shouldn’t have been locked to a touchscreen to begin with.

If there was ever a future remake of them, all the unique stylus control methods could be replaced with proper mapping of both analogue sticks. Skyward Sword HD is evidence enough that Nintendo is willing to recode its gimmicky games with traditional control schemes, but I feel that they would never bother to do so with any of the DS/3DS games...

My biggest disappointment in ALBW is that for some strange reason, it led to Triforce Heroes.

When the second Zelda game of a specific console comes out, it’s usually a much more streamlined affair for the developers to pump out because the engine is already there, waiting to be reutilized.

Majora’s Mask, Oracle of Seasons/Ages, Twilight Princess, and Spirit Tracks all reused assets from their predecessors to push out some incredibly fun and innovative titles (except for Spirit Tracks for me, but I’m very biased against the DS outings), and yet when the time came to finally get a wholly original Zelda game on the 3DS using ALBW’s engine, we got what was essentially the Federation Force of Zelda and I will forever feel disdain towards Nintendo for killing new 2D Zelda games with that half-hearted Four AdWords mockery.

Re: Poll: What's The Best Mega Man Game?

Nameless_Shame

I have no experience with any of the Battle Network or Star Force games.

64 (Legends) and its sequels were decent for attempting 3D.

The Zero and ZX games were a fun continuation of the X series.

Most of the X games hold up (I’m mean mugging you, X7) really well.

All of the Classic games are at the least still very serviceable games.

But the first X game is the unequivocal king of the series.
