I will say that NSO has really brought these games to a new generation. I have an NES mug I use while teaching. I am proud to say a grade three student came up to me to tell me how much he enjoys Mario 3.
I have also been pleasantly surprised by a lot of these games I otherwise would not have tried. I have the original hardware, but the cost for cartridges has sky rocketed and I already have all the games that I'm really interested in. Great solution to share legacy content, as much as it is criticized.
I'm so excited - I am really hoping for a remaster announcement. Biggest regret is not buying the original Gold and Silver on the eShop before it closed. I would take Black and White as well - I think it would do well on the Switch. My only hope is it would not get the graphical butchering that Diamond and Pearl got.
There's a lot of great DLC for switch and I love that most of the heavy hitters are included in the online. I love Happy Home Designer, the new MK8 tracks and the little bonuses you get for some games. I want to try the Pokemon Violet DLC, but I'm waiting for a sale. I also chose to pick up the Skyrim Anniversary DLC on Switch instead of PC because of all the chaos it's causes with SKSE - best enjoyed vanilla anyways.
I don't know the Gameboy libraries nearly as well as some other consoles, so I would be happy to see some more of these games on NSO to experience it for the first time. I only ever had the Pokemon games on my Gameboy, as well as one Super Mario game. As much as I wanted to collect for GB and GBA, the resale prices in my area have always been insane.
While it visually and mechanically is similar to Pokemon, from what I've been told about the game it is not particularly similar in gameplay. Unless the developers were directly ripping assets, I don't think The Pokemon Company will have a case.
I'm in that gaming rut where I have so much to choose from I don't end up picking anything! Going to try for a little Mario Galaxy on Switch - it's been a sick in bed kind of week so now is the time to play.
I never trade them in unless they're duplicates or exceptionally unfun games haha. I prefer to keep old gaming stuff to lend to friends and use to display at home. Everything from NES and up!
I would love to see a lot of these games make it to switch. Rocket: Robot on Wheels was actually a very innovative and fun game. Banjo Tooie would be my dream - I'm seeing more Banjo in gaming news (and in local merch), which makes me wonder what Microsoft could be waiting to announce!
So happy to see it! I know the online gets flack, but it is my favorite thing about the console right now and I am really loving having Banjo Kazooie and Pokemon Stadium 2 portable. My dream would be to get Banjo Tooie and Diddy Kong Racing or DK64 on. Seeing Jet Force gives me some hope!
So many of these games are absolutely phenomenal. The N64 truly had a quality lineup that instill find myself going back to. Christmas tradition is getting to Freeze Eezy Peak in Banjo Kazooie! I was surprised to see Yoshi Story so far down the list, but I can understand why that one isn't a fan favourite with how many good platformers the N64 had.
I never realised how endless the content is in this game until I saw one of my friends farms. I never looked up walkthroughs or anything...colour me surprised when I discovered sprinklers 20 hours in. I'm so used to the old Harvest Moons with no assists that I hadn't even considered the modern quality of life upgrades to these sims!
I loved Ocarina but I was so terrified of it as a kid. I ended up playing on a completed save so I could just wander Hyrule because every time I saw Gohma I would run for the power switch. Somehow I had no problem with Doom 3 at the same time...kids!
Not anything for me during this sale, but I am often overwhelmed by how many good games are on Switch now. I feel like this could be the console I have for life and still don't finish everything!
If the Switch 2 is just a hardware upgrade but otherwise essentially just a fancy Switch, I probably would wait a few years to purchase unless my 2018 model kicks it. I'm not really sold on the hardware upgrade yet, as I feel the Switch still looks excellent, and for the games I play (Mostly ports of games 2011 or older) the graphical upgrade will be minor anyways.
Looking forward to F-zero 99 & Paper Mario, although I'm holding off from any major game purchases right now. I can not believe how quickly Mario Wonder is coming!
I still have some dream games for the N64 online (Banjo Tooie when?!), although Pokemon Stadium 2 will keep me busy!
I'm keeping an eye on Sonic Superstars, as it's giving me really good Sonic Generations vibes in the level of care it appears to be receiving. Hoping this new Sega era is promising.
Pipe dream switch releases still include Wind Waker & Twilight Princess, but I feel those will come eventually. Now the real pipe dream is if that rumoured Oblivion remaster makes it to switch. Sir Patrick Stewart on the go? Yes please!
@Banjo- Picked up the game! I am loving the wide screen and the forgiving lives system. I have yet to figure out how to access the Game Gear games, haha. My mom was a huge fan of Sonic 2 & Knuckles, so shes loving being able to play as Knuckles in Sonic 1.
@Banjo- What a cool take on older games to make them more accessible. Thanks for the information! Perhaps this will be something I want to nab. Oh, why must there be so much great stuff coming out this year?!
@MrPinguy Thanks for letting me know! I might pass on this one then, since I still have the original cartridges and the console collections from back in the day. I would love to have the Game Gear games though, but that's ok!
I have very good feelings for this one - I think there has been a lull in upcoming milestone games towards the release of TOTK. I wonder if we will see any Wii U ports in the Zelda realm now that we have the big release off of our plates. It would also be a wonderful time to see the arrival of a few more N64 Online games. I am really holding out for Chameleon Twist, Mischief Makers and the likes...but we are frankly already so spoiled!
It has been a few years since I preordered anything. Between Stardew, A Wonderful Life, Friends of Mineral Town, Rune Factory 3-5...the switch is the ultimate farming simulator console in my books. Now if only they would port Rune Factory 2 and I would feel complete! (Only if they keep the disastrously funny voice acting)
Out of curiosity - does this version of the collection have a rewind mode like in the Genesis collection? I actually have found that feature to be really useful getting into some of the older games I never had as a kid.
I'm really hoping this is good. I feel like it might be something more appropriate to purchase on PC as I'm sure this is a candidate for the greater modding community to go nuts on.
I preordered it but now I'm wondering if I should wait because I have an internship during the release times. Maybe I could wait and get it a little bit cheaper.
That Mario picture looks familiar, but I have never seen Sonic like that. I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I actually really like Sonic 3D Blast. Both soundtracks are actually really good, and although the controls are a little bit slippery nowadays it's still a cool concept I haven't seen another game like it.
There's so many but I feel like Nintendo really nails the underwater themes. DK Country is a great example and Mario 64 also killed it. I'm also a believer that the Twilight princess soundtrack is an absolute masterpiece. Midna's Theme is so simple but such a fantastic work. (I'm actually really hoping that Nintendo does release a 35th anniversary symphonic album as they've done in previous anniversaries but I'm not going to hold my breath.)
Can't wait to see the reaction when it comes out. I think I'll wait to purchase it as my 3D platformer backlog is huge, but I wish the devs a good release after all those delays!
It's Thanksgiving weekend in Canada! I'm going to get some N64 online in between cooking. I have a big week coming up with midterms and gigs so I'm thankful for a Nintendo this Thanksgiving haha
I feel like if I'm going to play Skyrim with extras I'm going to do it on PC. I really hope that the stability is better on the anniversary edition. I was struggling with so many crashes on the standard version.
I'm thinking of Saints Row. There's a few on sale that I want like Sonic Mania and Treasure Trove, but I have other ways to play them still. Maybe I'll go for the GTA trilogy because I love those games!
Hopefully a little bit of Stardew and Animal Crossing to wind down after a crazy week.
I'm in the fourth week of the final year of my degree and about to go on practicum. Trying to actively take more time for my hobbies to balance out some of the pressure put on by my department. I recently got a few new games to try on Switch, but I think I'm going to stick with what's familiar and easy for now.
So excited to see this. I wasn't expected GBA remake either. Switch is now home to all of the best farming sims. It's also great to see RF3 getting some love. Personally, the RF I played the most was RF2, but I think that one hasn't aged nearly as well as RF3-4. Definitely going to preorder when it becomes available!
I can't wait to have the Mario Party games to play with friends. Makes me feel like I need to get more controllers for multiplayer! It's also really pushing me to get the NSO N64 controller, but it's still so expensive.
Also stoked for Pokemon Stadium 2. I still have all these games on the original cartridge, but having it on Switch makes it so much more convenient and portable. The news about Harvest Moon is a bummer. That was one I was really looking forward to seeing eventually. Oh well - the GC remake is more than enough too
I'm down for the Spongebob, Rune Factory, Harvest Moon and N64 announcements. There's still so many games on the Switch I have yet to play...or even take out of the wrapping for that matter. Looking forward to the new Pokemon, and I anxiously await reviews for Hogwarts' Legacy - which I wonder if it will be a more appropriate purchase for the PC.
Seems to be the direct of farming sims! I love Rune Factory 3 and the Harvest Moon GC remake. I feel like between Stardew and RF4, however, I have a lifetime supply of farming on the switch. Seems like items I would definitely pick up in a sale. I'm glad to see the GC remaster - I heard the GBA remaster was to mixed reception.
I'm hoping after this announcement Nintendo can move on to innovating their other franchises. The box art looks great - but I'm not done with BOTW so I don't foresee myself purchasing this title until long after the Switch lifecycle.
