@Stubborn_Monkey Your comment is spot-on, honestly. Current media and...basically "people" love to spread negativity over anyhing because it sells and bring clicks (not sayin this is the case for NL). There are so many great games that got bombed by "specialized media" that are actually great, and the opposite is true as well (looking at you, Dragon Age Veilguard).
I'll dive into MP4 too, and hope Retro/Nintendo dare to innovate more and more with this franchise, it's basically what happened with BotW, they took TLOZ to a whole new level.
It's really unforgivable for a game made by such a huge company and budget to look like this, combat is fun, yes, but everything else is mediocre at best. Not to mention that they're already selling an unreleased-DLC for $30, I'm honestly tired of Nintendo milking the Pokemon franchise with such low effort. Played it at a friend's house, but a hard pass for me, sadly, because I loved Legends Arceus.
I never understood why people criticized the movie for "not having a great story", which Mario game does? We enjoy and love the Mario games (not including the RPG spin-offs which STILL have very lighthearted stories) because they are just fun, and that's what this movie was: just fun. It didn't bring any of the real-world politics, ideologies, etc, and was just a fun movie about an adventure and the good guys winning.
If people expected a great story about introspection, solving almost impossible emotional dilemmas and leaving the theater with existential doubts, then the problem was them and their absurd expectations.
Played it, and as I was smiling throughout the first minutes of the game, one has to admit that its gameplay and storytelling feels kinda dated (at least for me), combat tends to get tedious after a while, specially in the first couple of hours.
It's a great remake, the graphic overhaul is beautiful, but I honestly wish they also added or changed things everywhere else, adding some voice acting or some "noise" like Animal Crossing would have felt better IMHO. Also making combat faster.
@PepperMintRex You're not missing much, Bioshock 2 is, imho, the weakest one by far and it felt rushed, even if it's not plagued by bugs and stuff, the story and gameplay are just not good for me.
@Dizavid It's a Mario game, hard to call it revolutionary or ground breaking. Just like Starfield is a typical Bethesda game (for good and for bad), Wonder is a typical Mario game: it's fun, it runs smoothly, it's good to play with your children if you have any, and that's about it.
Selling a $40+ "Expansion pass" for a game that runs like this, and not even bothering trying to fix it. At least companies like CDPR had the decency to try to improve Cyberpunk before selling expansions, not Ninty.
This review is on-point. Exactly the only struggle I've had in the first 10-ish hours I've played, the start does feel slow, however it just lasts around 20-30 minutes.
The combat, even though it doesn't have any over-complex mechanics like those found in games like Xenoblade or a Brave/Default system, keeps you engaged and is very entertaining.
One thing the review doesn't mention are Relics, these can make your experience easier if you just want to focus on the story or if you're just starting on RPGs, there's one that heals you up after every battle without using items or MP, and you receive it and another one basically at the beginning. I believe there are more but I haven't got another one yet.
It's an awesome game, really, if you loved Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Super Mario RPG...this is a tribute to those games, and it was made with passion and care, taking some inspiration without actually just copying things.
This year is just insane. Sea of Stars, Mario RPG, Starfield, Baldur's Gate 3...it's RPG galore!
Coming from a Double Dragon fan, and how many feelings this franchise moves in my heart (I used to play Double Dragon 2 and 3 with my dad when I was a kid), avoid this game, I seriously regret paying $15 for it, it's just not worth it. The final battle is stupidly unfair but even with that I managed to beat the game after the 3rd run, I don't feel like replaying it at all, it's repetitive, and after looking at what a beat'em up can do these days (River City Girls, Shredder's Revenge, Scott Pilgrim), this one feels mediocre and a failed attempt to pull people with the nostalgia hook using a beloved franchise's name.
I like rogue-lites and that feeling you get when you beat a boss or the final boss, didn't feel that here because the final battle is just annoying. I'd give this a 5/10.
I remember I got a LOT of hours into this game on DS and I was thinking about it a couple of days ago. It really does have difficulty spikes and sometimes the randomness of this kind of games' nature is all over the place, but it's a really fun game and one that just makes you want to keep going. Similar to what Puzzle Quest does, in a very different playstyle.
@SalvorHardin +1. Never liked X-Ray moves as they kind of stop the flow of the fight (having to watch 5+ seconds of slow-mo moves) and actually make no sense, and after 9 they made them more senseless, throats sliced, spines broken, jaws shattered, skulls exploded...those are basically fatalities, so the "they are powerful warriors" explanation is out of line.
@roy130390 This is true, I got it since release and had a blast playing it, never found any issues besides some frame drops that weren't even game breaking or anything.
Seems a bit harsh to me to hit this one so much about "plot", like, seriously...where's the plot in any Mario game? They're all basically the same: Bowser wants to rule Mushroom Kingdom and kidnap Peach.
Somehow people was expecting a super complex, deep and intricate story (?) and to be fair, I'm pretty sure all of us 20+ years old people aren't the target audience for this one, even when we're the veteran fans and we might enjoy the cameos and get the jokes...the movie is targeted for kids, and my 5 year old daughter LOVED the movie, even when she doesn't really play Mario at all (she's more into TMNT and Animal Crossing).
Classic Nintendo. Does 1 thing right but they always have a "but", the fact that we have to fiddle with control settings to get something "similar" that is present in the other console's version is a classic Nintendo move.
To be honest, To The Moon is way ahead of Finding Paradise. But to those who haven't played either, a little disclaimer: the gameplay is basically walking and reading text, the puzzles aren't even puzzling (lol), and these games base their glory solely on the story that is told, which some may find touching and tear-inducing, but some may find boring.
I loved To the Moon, but I feel like you have to relate to the story being told in some way to really appreciate this kind of games, this is more true with Finding Paradise, the story isn't as powerful as TTM, so for a game that depends 100% on it, it is kinda lacking, also the soundtrack isn't as great as the original's. It's an endearing story, don't get me wrong, but TTM is a 10, while Finding Paradise is a 7-8ish for me.
Truth be told, yyyyyup, this is poor game optimisation. The Switch has managed to run stuff like Doom, Wolfenstein, Warframe (even with its "open-world-esque" maps), Breath of the Wild, Bayonetta 3, Xenoblade Chronicles Remastered, 2 and 3, and a long etcetera.
It's honestly sad, because the game is quite fun and kinda gets rid of the old boring and tiring formula: Go from gym 1 to 8, beat the evil organization in turn, catch the game's legendary Pokémon, beat Elite Four, end. In these games you have to do the same things, but the order is up to you and the focus (gyms, titans, evil group) to tackle on things is up to you, it finally feels like YOUR adventure.
But it all is awfully hindered by mediocre game developing, it's like playing Cyberpunk 2077, when everything works the game is awesome, but things start to go south very fast. It's even worse if your game session starts to get longer, I did a 6-7 hour session and had to reboot the game because textures just failed to load and the game world just disappeared.
it just proves how GameFreak is completely incompetent. Monolith pulls Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and 3, Panic Button manages to run Doom and Warframe on Switch, there is Breath of the Wild and GameFreak can't manage to make their games run properly, and this is their 3rd shot at making a Switch game. The game is amazing, but it's honestly hindered by how horribly it runs, and if the game sessions goes longer, the game runs even worse. Their day 1 patch fixed nothing.
Man, I just couldn't get into Bayonetta 3, the ridiculous ammount of cutscenes that look awful for being cutscenes (they look like PS3-era) is just too much, not to mention how long most of the cutscenes are and at least I never found a way to skip them. A 5 minute cutscene to tell me that the shop is now open is just too much.
You lost me at "Dark Souls", I'm honestly tired and sick of every freaking game trying to be "Souls". We already have that repetitive and lazy formula on all the Souls games, yet we get more of that in other games. I want to play games to relax and have fun, not to be frustrated by cheap mechanics disguised in "it's a challenging game".
I'm starting to believe Metroid Prime 4 will never come out, or it will simply be an epic masterpiece (I seriously doubt it, considering how they haven't shown ANYTHING). Aside from Harvestella, I was super done with the farming games, they all look exactly the same!
I'm in for Bayonetta 3 (finally an action game that doesn't want to be another "souls" (games I personally find boring af)) and Mario+Rabbids.
If you haven't played Tales of Symphonia, you need to do so, best Tales of, only rivaled by Abyss and Arise IMHO.
I know they do it to make the product cheaper, but if they added wireless and the ability to use them sideways (you know for multiplayer purposes) these would be the best alternative to the original JoyCon. I have the Split Pad Pro and it's super comfortable.
@Deepdoop It´s super fine to enter the world of Pokémon with this game, although it IS a bit harder than the main ones, but that's part of the fun. You have to take in account, though, that this game's setting takes place hundreds of years before its main Pokémon game (Diamon/Pearl, which you can play on Switch as well).
@Marianne It's really not buggy at all, I'm 15 hours in and I haven't found a single bug. Technical issues are mostly graphical (veeeery little frame drops, some textures looking bad, etc). Maybe those are fixed on a day one patch.
The game is AWESOME, breaks the old tiring formula and is even challenging in some aspects, while keeping the core Pokemon experience (Pokemon types, friendly story, turn based combat, etc). If you like the franchise you will love this game, hopefully we get more of this Legends setting in the future, because THIS is the way Pokemon games should take. It's not a perfect game and it doesn't reach Breath of the Wild's levels, although the map has more "life" in it than BotW, but it is really a great Pokemon game.
It feels more like an RPG and for what I've seen it seems like it's a really long game, I'm like 8hrs into the game and have only discovered 2 "regions", which are HUGE and with a lot of different Pokemon to catch and battle, seriously recommending this, 9/10, my only complaint is that I'd love the combat system to be more action RPG. I haven't seen any frame drop issues, the game runs super smooth and it's a ton of fun, I don't drop many details because I don't want to spoil anything.
BloodRayne 2 is way better than the first one, there are HUGE improvements in gameplay. I beated the game back in 2006 and had a blast, although it was kind of frustrating to play on keyboard/mouse because sometimes the game wouldn't respond to the key presses. If you're looking for a a game where you feel like you're in a Tarantino film this is it, fair warning: there's A LOT of gore, Rayne slices her enemies with ease and cuts legs, arms, heads, slices bodies in half and she even mocks her enemies after you/she does it, "don't worry, they are doing wonders with prosthetics these days".
I mention the gore because some people may not like the abundance of it, it REALLY is exaggerated. The game is quite fun though, if you like these kind of games like DmC, Bayonetta, MG Rising, you'll enjoy this, just consider that it doesn't have the same level of polish.
I don't understand why release 2 versions in 2021. I understand the gimmick back in the 90s and early 2000s because it made you get together with friends who had the other version, nowadays you just go online and get the other version's Pokemon, aside from that the games are EXACTLY the same.
Brilliant Diamond leaked on piracy sites and they found out that you only had to change 1 line and you could load up SP, still Nintendo has the audacity to release 2 separate games and a "pack" with both games. They could have simply release 1 game and give you the in-game option to load SP or BD but...money, right?
I simply just bought Hori split pad, it may not have the same functions (it doesn't have any wireless functions) but they have no drift at all, they're much more comfortable to hold in portable mode and a lot cheaper, here in Mexico a pair of joycons is around $75dls, the Hori ones are $35.
I really recommend them to everyone having issues with joycons and don't mind losing the wireless functions (I really don't, I only play on handheld mode or use a SN30+ Pro when docked).
Considering the game is mediocre at best on PC and PS4, it was only expected that this port would suck, even on PC and PS4 the game had performance issues.
Why remove Mario 3D All-stars? Because reasons. Nintendo seems to always have 2 possible routes: A) Make something to please fans and make them happy, earning profit. B) Make something to annoy fans and leave them wondering wth was Nintendo thinking?
90% of the times they take route B. It's like my girlfriend, I love her (and I love Nintendo), but most times I don't understand her.
@Slowdive I never digged games with equipment breaking mechanics, some just have that durability mechanic but items rarely break (like Diablo 3), but the durability stuff just put me off BotW.
Not to mention having to just walk for 30-40 minutes of green grass and trees and nothing else to do but walk/run from point A to B before you get all the fast travel points. The world felt very, very empty.
@Peach64 The lack of multiplatform games is what made the WiiU fail so badly, and the useless gimmick of the huge controller, and the fact that Nintendo could never make "casual" people understand that the WiiU was a different console and not a Wii extension; those things are removed with Switch (showing Skyrim and NBA 2k17 is maybe a glimpse of 3rd party support finally coming).
This is exactly what I wanted NX...now Switch to be, an upgraded concept of the WiiU to take my game anywhere I want, both with a "normal" controller and not all that gimmicky stuff. Good job Nintendo! Now...let the 3rd party games flow!
My body is ready to explode. No, seriously...I'm in with low expectations, Ninty has disappointed me before and I'd hate that it happened again. I'd like the hybrid concept if the main controller is not another failed gimmicky thing, and we get to play games outside of N's exclusives, would pay AGAIN to be able to play Witcher 3 on the go, for example. Please don't drop the bomb on yourselves again, Nintendo, please don't.
@JaxonH I partly agree with you, all I'm saying is: this game should have been named differently, call it: Galactic Squadron, or whatever, why use the "Metroid" brand on something that clearly is not a Metroid game? I'm not saying Ninty should keep releasing the same old: you're fully upgraded, you get damaged, get the upgrades again, defeat boss formula...but damn, they could do a lot of great things with the Metroid brand...something more open world where you take bounties on different planets but being able to explore them on your own, with an interesting story and side-quests, being able to pilot Samus' ship...nope, they gave us chibi Lego-like mechas doing missions on closed environments (no real exploration or alternative paths) and getting "mods", no Samus or anything else. If they wanted to tackle the "how it is to be a Federation soldier" they could have added some missions where you controlled a soldier, I dunno.
The game is not bad, I've played it, but it is NOT Metroid, even if they threw some enemies from Metroid's universe and used the so-called Federation Force. It's like Hyrule Warriors, sure, it's kinda fun...you fight enemies from TLOZ's universe...but even then it is NOT a TLOZ game.
@patbacknitro18 Nope, I'm fine if they change the formula to make it fun or innovative, but straying so far from the Metroid formula feels like a mistake; it's like if they released a Legend of Zelda without Link, or Zelda, and not an adventure game but, I don't know, a sports game, or a board game. Metroid has a base, and that base formula is what fans love about Metroid, so changing it so much makes it feel like anything else, but not a Metroid game.
Sometimes Nintendo makes bad decisions like this one that feels like a slap on the face. Fans asked for a Metroid game and they gave us this thing, I cannot tell it's a bad game, but this is NOT Metroid. Feels like something similar to what they did when people asked for a Zelda game on Wii U and they partnered with Koei to release Hyrule Warriors, but were cautious enough not to call it "The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Warriors", why call this "Metroid Prime"? I'm far from saying the game is bad, but after watching gameplay videos it can't feel less like a Metroid game and more like a squad based FPS.
Nintendo has to stop giving fans things they didn't ask for and try to give them what they actually ask for, we asked for Metroid, Samus, exploration, "metroidvania"..not a mission-based FPS in Metroid's universe. But oh well...
Btw, even though Metroid games don't sell as well as Mario and Zelda, almost all its games have sold at least 1m copies, with the exception of Zero Mission, Trilogy and Hunters (which sold at least 600-700k).
Chill, guys, Nintendo did this because they'll release an epic Metroid game to celebrate the franchise's 30th anniversary.
remembers Federation Force
OMFG! WHY!? I seriously hate how Nintendo treats Metroid's franchise...the possibilities of a Metroid on Wii U were huge, changing visors/weapons with the touchscreen, graphic power to do even do some space exploration or something...nah, throw Lego Metroid to the 3DS so fans can stop asking for a Metroid game.
Sometimes I don't understand what the suits at Nintendo think we fans are, or why do they believe releasing a Metroid game WITHOUT SAMUS is even fine. It's like if they released a Zelda game without Link...but anyways..
If these are just playing cards then meh, Nintendo failing to do it right again.
If these are, however, a trading card game then I'd be interested, not all the TCGs are good, but a Zelda themed one with all those creatures, heroes and lore could be interesting.
I don't trust Capcom, bringing back beloved IPs would most likely ruin them due to their lack of respect towards the people that buys their games. Look at how they released SFV, lacking content, a big mess even after a supposed beta test...
I bet they'd create a Megaman where you have to buy each weapon as DLC instead of killing bosses or something atrocious like that. I have no high hopes for anything related to Capcom since a long time ago.
I've never gotten into the EO games, but Atlus has given the 3DS a very awesome support and a lot of epic titles.
For newcomers, I'd suggest playing the Untold series and IV first, as they are more welcoming than the previous 3 titles which are kinda unforgiving (don't get me wrong, IV and Untold have their very intense challenges, but Untold 1 and 2 specially are a bit more hand holding)
@DarkEdi You can get most of these games on retail for a cheaper price in Mexico (I live here too), I saw an OoT 3D for $200 MXN (like $10 USD). You should check prices before getting these.
Rayman Legends is awesome, played it on PC and it was a blast, one of the best platformers...it's just so insane, senseless fun. Splinter Cell Blacklist is a very good stealth game, if you liked Conviction you'll FREAKING LOVE Blacklist.
I never got into Watch_Dogs...it just never grew on me, and I honestly don't like the AC games either. Great deals nonetheless, Child of Light at that price is a total bargain and you all should get it.

@Pillowpants Knowing GameFreak and TPC, the DLC won't change anything besides maybe adding a sub-par new area and some new Pokémon to catch.

Re: Hori Officially Announces Switch Split Pad Compact Western Release
I know they do it to make the product cheaper, but if they added wireless and the ability to use them sideways (you know for multiplayer purposes) these would be the best alternative to the original JoyCon. I have the Split Pad Pro and it's super comfortable.
Re: Review: Pokémon Legends: Arceus - One Of The Greatest Pokémon Games Ever Made
@Deepdoop It´s super fine to enter the world of Pokémon with this game, although it IS a bit harder than the main ones, but that's part of the fun.
Re: Pokémon Legends: Arceus Gets An Updated Six-Minute Overview Trailer
@UmbreonsPapa The game is awesome, you won't be disappointed.
Re: Pokémon Legends: Arceus Gets An Updated Six-Minute Overview Trailer
Already played it.
Re: Review: BloodRayne 2 ReVamped - A Definite Improvement, But Dante Won't Lose Any Sleep
Re: What's The Difference Between Pokémon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl? Which Should You Buy? - All Version-Exclusive Pokémon
Re: Doug Bowser Comments On The Battle Against Joy-Con Drift, Says Nintendo Are Making "Continuous Improvements"
Re: Review: Skyforge - A Disastrous MMORPG Cursed With Technical Faults And Dire Gameplay
Considering the game is mediocre at best on PC and PS4, it was only expected that this port would suck, even on PC and PS4 the game had performance issues.
Re: Netflix Joins Mario's Doomsday Celebrations, Will Remove Super Mario Bros. 3 Cartoon On 31st March
Typical Nintendo move.
Re: Review: Immortals Fenyx Rising - An Off-Brand Breath Of The Wild That's Still Worth A Look
I might try this one too, looks fun.
Re: Say Hello to the Nintendo Switch, a New Concept for Gaming
@kugtryne It does have support from EA, it's called Electronic Arts.
Re: Say Hello to the Nintendo Switch, a New Concept for Gaming
@Peach64 The lack of multiplatform games is what made the WiiU fail so badly, and the useless gimmick of the huge controller, and the fact that Nintendo could never make "casual" people understand that the WiiU was a different console and not a Wii extension; those things are removed with Switch (showing Skyrim and NBA 2k17 is maybe a glimpse of 3rd party support finally coming).
Re: Say Hello to the Nintendo Switch, a New Concept for Gaming
This is exactly what I wanted NX...now Switch to be, an upgraded concept of the WiiU to take my game anywhere I want, both with a "normal" controller and not all that gimmicky stuff. Good job Nintendo! Now...let the 3rd party games flow!
(and please give us a new Metroid?)
Re: Preview Trailer of the Nintendo NX Confirmed for 20th October
GAWD.
Re: Video: Check Out the Launch Trailer for Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse
SMTIV was awesome, but I'm gonna wait for reviews of this one...feels like a forced sequel(ish) and more of the exactly same thing.
Re: Review: Metroid Prime: Federation Force (3DS)
Re: Review: Metroid Prime: Federation Force (3DS)
@patbacknitro18 Nope, I'm fine if they change the formula to make it fun or innovative, but straying so far from the Metroid formula feels like a mistake; it's like if they released a Legend of Zelda without Link, or Zelda, and not an adventure game but, I don't know, a sports game, or a board game. Metroid has a base, and that base formula is what fans love about Metroid, so changing it so much makes it feel like anything else, but not a Metroid game.
Re: Review: Metroid Prime: Federation Force (3DS)
Re: Nintendo Issues Takedown Notices for Impressive Fan-Made Metroid II Remake, AM2R
Re: A Tetris Movie is in the Making
Alien blocks are attacking Earth, only one hero with a gravity gun can make them fall in a perfect line and make them disappear.
On the 2nd and 3rd movie, they'll fall faster.
Seriously, people are running out of ideas.
Re: The Legend of Zelda Will Have Its Own Range of Trading Cards
If these are just playing cards then meh, Nintendo failing to do it right again.
If these are, however, a trading card game then I'd be interested, not all the TCGs are good, but a Zelda themed one with all those creatures, heroes and lore could be interesting.
Re: Capcom Could Be Planning to Bring Back Old IP
I don't trust Capcom, bringing back beloved IPs would most likely ruin them due to their lack of respect towards the people that buys their games. Look at how they released SFV, lacking content, a big mess even after a supposed beta test...
I bet they'd create a Megaman where you have to buy each weapon as DLC instead of killing bosses or something atrocious like that. I have no high hopes for anything related to Capcom since a long time ago.
Re: Etrian Odyssey V Finally Has A Release Date, And Yes, It's Coming To 3DS
I've never gotten into the EO games, but Atlus has given the 3DS a very awesome support and a lot of epic titles.
For newcomers, I'd suggest playing the Untold series and IV first, as they are more welcoming than the previous 3 titles which are kinda unforgiving (don't get me wrong, IV and Untold have their very intense challenges, but Untold 1 and 2 specially are a bit more hand holding)
Re: Nintendo of America Confirms New Wii U, 3DS and Wii Nintendo Selects Titles for 11th March
@DarkEdi You can get most of these games on retail for a cheaper price in Mexico (I live here too), I saw an OoT 3D for $200 MXN (like $10 USD). You should check prices before getting these.
Re: Ubisoft Discounts Galore in 2-Week North American eShop Sale
Rayman Legends is awesome, played it on PC and it was a blast, one of the best platformers...it's just so insane, senseless fun. Splinter Cell Blacklist is a very good stealth game, if you liked Conviction you'll FREAKING LOVE Blacklist.
I never got into Watch_Dogs...it just never grew on me, and I honestly don't like the AC games either. Great deals nonetheless, Child of Light at that price is a total bargain and you all should get it.
