Re: Zavvi Launches New 'Pokémon Explorer' Clothing Range (UK)

Morgan19

I'm not familiar with Zavvi, but...

@CharlieGirl - "why are companies with the Pokemon license bent on selling the blandest, most utilitarian clothing possible?"

...I actually like them for that exact reason. With the exception of the shoes, all of these would fit in perfectly with my usual clothes and allow me to represent something I like without going overboard or look too cartoony. They're great because they're subdued.

Looks fun, gives me Fantasy Life vibes.

I assume the blank-faced kitty in the logo is meant to represent the "customise your protagonist" angle, but that's a really weird design choice. I wish they would've just thrown on a couple dots/circles to infer eyes, while still leaving the rest white and outlined; it would've gotten the same idea across without making me stop to think about how strange it looks. =D

Re: Random: $10,000 Pokémon Competition Winner Reportedly Found To Have Violated The Rules

@HADAA @graysoncharles Ahh, I see what you're saying now. But, that's only true if all of the top three winners had been disqualified.

From the results page, it looks like only the grand prize winner has been DQed from the top three--with the other DQ being one of the lower-down runner-ups. If that's true (which is how it currently appears on the results page, with 2nd and 3rd still being in the clear) I do believe the "shift the other winners up" suggestion is how UNIQLO should've handled things.

Re: Random: $10,000 Pokémon Competition Winner Reportedly Found To Have Violated The Rules

@HADAA Not sure we're talking about the same thing. At least, I don't understand how what you replied with applies to my thought.

What I meant was, I wonder why they're not just shifting all the winning entries up one prize level to compensate for the now-missing DQed entries. ie, The current second place entry becomes Grand Prize, third place becomes Second Place, etc.

The thought being that if the DQed grand prize entry was never entered, for example, the current second place entry would've theoretically won instead. So why not just approach it that way and still compensate the honest winners is what I was wondering out loud, instead of failing to award a grand prize at all.

Absolutely agree that the users in question were right in being disqualified, but I have to wonder why other winners aren't being bumped up to fill the empty spots.

As it stands, I see this as UNIQLO getting deeply-discounted art and publicity for $3,500+ instead of the $13,500+ it should've cost them. If that's accurate, it feels like an extremely slimy move on their part to weasel out of what's owed to other (honest) competitors.

> It’s not perfect, and there are some noticeable technical sacrifices to justify its existence on Switch, but it’s no less essential

I enjoy my Switch, but after getting a PS4 (my first) on Black Friday this year, I'm starting to cringe when I hear lines like that in reviews, due to their inescapable frequency.

If I ask myself, would I rather play a watered-down/less-"powerful" version of a game on the go a couple years later (often at a significantly higher cost) or the original games at full-power on a big TV (and often deeply discounted), I'm realizing more and more that it's the latter.

Unless we're talking Switch-exclusives, I guess for me there's only so far "But it's portable!" can be used to validate the Switch's increasingly sloppy-seconds library.

Re: Review: Little Dragons Café (Switch)

@PLAYwithGregg It has nothing to do with trying to be cool or sh*tting on people. It has everything to do with an author on a gaming news site posting a review that isn't a review.

I personally use NL as my main source of Nintendo news, and expect certain levels of ACTUAL useful information. But if NL only had half-assed 'reviews' like this one, I don't think anyone would ever bother coming here. That's the issue: if a review is posted, make sure it's an actual review and not (by the author's own admission) just a surface-level overview.

Re: Review: Little Dragons Café (Switch)

Morgan19

How is this a review?

The only information here is who made it, a brief one-line mention about how it combines genres, the art style, bugs, and then the score.

That's just an overview, not a review. Where's information about the actual gameplay? The story? Mechanics? Activities? Quests? Systems and UI? Whether there's any combat? There's literally no information here for those looking to learn about the game apart from how badly this "reviewer" says it performs.

> there’s a refreshing level of modern polish to the world ... Objects in the background and foreground blur in and out of focus as you grow nearer to them

What you call "modern polish", I call "post-processing gone overboard". I'm still disappointed the devs never introduced a way to disable that after their response to the demo.
