The Pokémon Company has shared two brand new videos giving us a greater look at Meltan, the recently discovered mythical Pokémon set to appear in Pokémon GO and Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!.
As you can see in the trailer above, Professors Willow and Oak discuss the new Pokémon, revealing that a Mystery Box is needed to capture one for yourself. You can get your own Mystery Box by sending Pokémon from Pokémon GO to Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! or Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! on Switch. We already knew that sending creatures over to the Switch games could get you candy and other items, but we now know that a Mystery Box will also be received "the first time you send a Pokémon" over.
The official Pokémon website gives us a little more information on how this item will work in the games:
The Mystery Box closes itself after it's used once. The only way to open it again is to wait a set amount of time, and then send another Pokémon to Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! or Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! You can also get a Mystery Box for sending Pokémon to a friend's Nintendo Switch game, but you can only have one Mystery Box at a time!
Meltan will begin to appear once a Mystery Box is opened in Pokémon GO, but be careful—they'll only appear for the player that opened the Mystery Box. Touch a Meltan you see on the field map, and then try to catch it with a Poké Ball!
From there, you can then bring the Meltan you catch into the Let's Go games on Switch, where it can follow you around during your adventure just like any other monster. Even if you don't catch Meltan in Pokémon GO yourself, you can ask a friend to send one that they've caught instead.
Another trailer reveals that Meltan is the most adorable little thing ever to exist, as well as giving us a tease at an evolved form. Take a look.
Do you like the new Pokémon design? Will you be making sure to get one for yourself in the new games? Let us know below.

I do hope that Meltan has another evolution, because as he is now his appearance is a strange mix between cute and stupid and I don't know what to think of him.
I've been seeing a lot of dislike for the upcoming Let's go games especially on the Nintendo Switch Subreddit.
I personally think it looks pretty alright, but the last Pokemon game I played was Pokemon Y, so i'm not sure too sure wether I would enjoy this one...
Ehh... of all the new pokemon they could pick (of which I don't know how many), you'd think they could've picked one that was more inspired.
Don't judge by the size and its looking.
Who know if the Evolution of Meltan = Awesome looking of Legendary Pokemon.
Just like Solgaleo / Lunala.
They're doing a lot of coverage for such a simple looking Pokemon.
One could almost think they were supposed to be a new franchise rather than something linked to an existing one.
@SmaggTheSmug It looks like someone put their hand in their pocket, pulled out some putty, a nut and some discarded wire, put it together, and decided to make it a pokemon.
It's pretty bad when the character design is less appealing than Muk
So it seems like you'll be encouraged to catch multiple Meltan in Go, and that's how you'd acquire this evolved form.
Reminds me of Zygarde and its cells making up multiple forms.
What with the eye-shine and cord 'tail' really being the only indications of Meltan facing forward or backward--and thus how from behind it looks like it can be facing forward--I'm actually surprised no one at TPC/Gamefreak questioned how it looks like it has a stringy red penis dangling from its crotch.
Well, this pretty much all conforms to expectations... we knew the "new" Pokémon would come in the mystery box & this confirms it. The only real new information is that the mystery box can be used multiple times.
@RupeeClock I'd heard the Zygard theory before & the second video on this page confirms it with the group of Meltan seemingly fusing into a new form (hidden in shadow).
@Morgan19 Well, having some experience of my own male physiology, I would be worried if my genitals were on the back of my body.
@DanteSolablood Meltan looking nearly identical from the front or the back is exactly my point. In both video thumbnails from the article, the Meltan in the bottom-right looks like it's sticking a red penis out, which seems like something they would've noticed when designing it.
@Morgan19 Haha, I think that says more about how your mind works than the quality of the design. Personally I see something which is obviously designed to be an electrical cable.
A good test is this...
You could say you see a lot of shocked faces or you could see electrical plugs. One is reality, one is something you're reading into the image.
Nope. Still a stupid, ugly design.
And I pledge my allegiance to Vanilluxe, the sweetest Pokémon that ever lived.
@jhewitt3476 Uhm, wrong topic man. Think you're looking for the Switch Online NES game topic, not the Meltan Pokémon news.
@DanteSolablood
OOPS, must've hit a wrong button somewhere
Seeing these videos of Professor Willow and Oak interacting just keeps reinforcing how behind the graphics of the mainline Pokemon games are.. Willow is detailed with thorough and expressive animations.. Oak is simple, toony, and just stands still and blinks. Get it together, Game Freak!! Its embarrassing! You have the money and resources to do better!
@TJWorks if you give it a bit of thought. It seems like most of it's body is controlled by electromagnetism or something. Especially thanks to the presence of it's ferrofluid eye.
@MegaVel91 That's a neat concept, but not a strong execution. If it gets an evolution I hope they incorporate that concept into a stronger evolution design.
@LexKitteh I think you have a good point, Gamefreak do have the money & ability to do better... which personally leads me to think that this is a stylistic choice.
Pokémon Let's Go Pickachu & Eeeve are both introductory games meant to pull in new players & existing players alike so I can understanding Gamefreak choosing a more simple, classic look for their characters. The real test is the Gen 8 next year when Gamefreak MUST show exactly what it can bring to Pokémon with 100% of their effort.
So Meltan can only be caught in Pokemon Go, correct? To get him in Let's Go, it would have to be a transfer?
Sorry if that's explained, my head is having a rough work day.
Niantic Intern sketches daftest looking Pokemon in a long time on the back of a napkin on his lunchbreak
John Henke puts it in the full game
@RadioHedgeFund Nothing beats Grimer.
@RadioHedgeFund
Correction: Gamefreak Intern sketches daftest looking Pokemon in a long time on the back of a napkin on his lunchbreak
John Henke puts it in the full game
Just a note, Niantic have literally no say what any Pokémon should look like... they even literally use the models from existing Pokémon games.
@DanteSolablood Thanks for the reply! Yeah, I understand where you're coming from, and would understand if they intentionally keep the graphics simple for this game. But I am worried they will not step it up when Gen 8 launches, and I feel they really need to.. They can keep the overall gameplay the same as previous games, no need to fix what isn't broken, but should really take this chance to improve the graphics and presentation and show how great the series can look!!
Hahah the ol' classic evolve while transferring to Switch chestnut. Ker-ching.
Am i the only one who genuienly likes the design?
@I_Am_A_Geek Nope. I'm with you on that and I bet there is a silent majority of Pkmn-players that mostly don't care much about its design either way. Wonder if its typing is pure steel or steel / electric.
@Gibb Pure steel typing. Thank you Gibb!
@RupeeClock It seems the evolved form is confirmed to be coming to Pokémon Go- a datamine of the new 0123.1apk have found the Pokémon number 891 and 892... an evolution.
@Morgan19 However, when you watch the video, Meltan is clearly walking, playing and drawn with its tail trailing behind it. From all of that, it’s clearly a tail. So I’m not sure what the issue is here.
Meltan is so adorable, this little guy can be a Pokemon Mascot like the Chocobos and Moogles are for Final Fantasy.
I want to see what the GEN 8 game soon, I'm curious about the graphics, how the character models will look like... The list goes on.
The person writing these notes on Meltan is wasting a considerable number of pages in their notebook... >,<
I think its a pretty weak design, and it doesn't bode well for the upcoming generation at all.
