As previously noted by Kate, this site's unofficial senior consultant on farm-sims, there are a lot of those sorts of games on Nintendo Switch. But there's always room for one more, especially when it features cats and customisation options.
Publisher PQube has confirmed that Kitaria Fables will arrive on Nintendo Switch on 3rd September, via both the eShop and at physical retail.
It's a title that promises to blend farming and battling together in one charming RPG whole, and it certainly seems like one worth watching. Below is the PR blurb:
- Charming action adventure featuring RPG and farming elements
- Set out on a quest to rescue the world of Kitaria from a mysterious rising darkness
- Real-time combat with melee weapons, bows and magic as you encounter beasts and bandits in the wilds
- Grow produce on Thunderbunn Farm and gather resources to craft weapons, provisions and more
- Customise your protagonist with skins, gear and accessories
- Meet friends & villagers, taking on side quests and building relationships along the way
- Play with a friend using couch co-op mode
Is this going on your wishlist?

Looks fun, gives me Fantasy Life vibes.
I assume the blank-faced kitty in the logo is meant to represent the "customise your protagonist" angle, but that's a really weird design choice. I wish they would've just thrown on a couple dots/circles to infer eyes, while still leaving the rest white and outlined; it would've gotten the same idea across without making me stop to think about how strange it looks. =D
I clicked on the video not expecting much but it actually looks pretty good. I wouldn't class myself as being someone who's into farming sims but I enjoyed Stardew Valley enough to know I could potentially be one. I'm also a cat man. So this could very well be a game for me.
An Animal Crossing RPG, sign me up. Definitely looking forward to it.
This is what I wanted SnackWorld to be, note: it also has local co-op
Is it just me, or is the frame rate really badly jittery in this video?
I hope that's not reflective of the game's performance, as it does interest me otherwise.
@RupeeClock It's the announcement trailer from last year, so a good while ago in terms of development. Presumably the publisher is working on a new trailer, they're still directing people to that one.
Ni no kuni 2 confirme for a September 17th release for the Switch!
[sigh] I'm going to have to buy this, aren't I?
It looks like Fantasy Life! It probably won't be as odd though. Unless the farming is terrible I'm 100% gonna pick this up. Actually, even if it's terrible, I still might get it, if the rest of the game is good.
Looks good to me. Barring any real negatives, I will be getting it.
So excited for this one! So glad that there's finally a release date!
Now this is the kind of anthropomorphic animal game I wanted. 100% buying this.
Wow! I... want this! It really looks like Fantasy Life. Gosh, I loved that game.
I wonder which one will come sooner and will be better: Rune Factory 5, or this Kitaria Fables.
It looks VERY good and polished! Definitely picked my interest, but I'll wait for the reviews. Loved the art style.
Looks a lot like Cat Quest, which was lots of fun, I'm interested
The big question is, can you marry your furry waifus?
Really looking forward to this, might have to get it on Xbox or PlayStation though to make the most of that couch co-op.
@Low_ink It only looks a bit like Fantasy Life, it doesn't really play like Fantasy Life. Fantasy Life's biggest lie was that it pretended to be more than an action RPG, but it wasn't. It didn't really have any simulation stuff, just some crafting and minigames tacked on to an RPG. Still a fun game, though.
@the_beaver If this is better than Rune Factory 5, Marvelous just needs to shut their doors.
@Deltath Well, combatwise I think it looks a bit like Fantasy Life. The graphics are very similar as well. Regardless, if the reviews are good I'll definitely get it. I really wanted Fantasy life to be ported to the switch, too bad it never was.
@Deltath It wouldn't be the first time an indie game is better than a big one...
@Low_ink I'd really love to see a fully fleshed out sequel. And not some pseudo sequel where it's mostly different. An amazing sequel that's true to the original but better. Unlikely, I know, but I still want it.
@Deltath I've been wanting that too! Apparently there's a Fantasy Life MMO in Japan. I hope it does well so that they release a sequel (to the first game) everywhere.
