@Not_Soos Eh, I disagree. They messed up with the price on MKW, but as a game it's immaculate. Comparing MKW to Crossworlds is like comparing a filet mignon to a Big mac.

@Rob3008 It's surprising how much music is in games. Breath of the Wild's official soundtrack is also 5 discs, despite my recollection that there was hardly any music in the game outside of towns and combat.

I wonder, does this accessory work in the same way as the Labo VR did? Do you think it would work for the VR mode in BotW? I wonder if the increased resolution on the Switch 2's screen would make it look better :3

I have over 200 hours in this game, but I'm not really interested in this expansion until it's updated to take advantage of Switch 2. It should be able to run at the same FOV and resolution of other consoles now.

The people here saying the Switch 2 is being poorly supported at launch... I wonder if they just became conscious during the Switch era and knew nothing of how previous consoles launched lol. This has been a great console launch, not peak, but firmly in the top half.

I have no idea who those are, but the art is nice.

On the other hand, Nintendo's retention of talent is extraordinary. How many other companies, in any industry, have retained top-billed creatives for THIS long?

@GamingGod Okay but what about the technology the Switch 2 offers? You guys keep acting like it's a rip off, but it's extremely comparable to other devices in the same price range.

Yeah that's rough. I do prefer the Switch 1 box art overall. It feels like they're trying to put too much information on the front. Even just a blurb bubble "includes Meetup in Bellabel Park!" would have been sufficient.

@GamingGod Sony permanently lost the ability to claim consumer friendliness when they decided to charge $600 in 2006 (equivalent to US$970 today - more than twice the price of the Switch 2) for the PS3. Nintendo hasn't done anything that out of touch yet.

You're fine with the New 3DS, which was more powerful, more expensive, and had exclusive games but retained backwards compatibility with the 3DS...

Just because they called it the Switch 2 and not the "New Switch" or the "Switch XL"? What's different about the situation besides the name, and what does the name matter?

Also, Nintendo's president stated that the Switch 2's $450 price point did not take rising component costs into consideration. In other words, $450 is the cheapest the Switch 2 was ever going to be. It was never going to be less, no matter when Nintendo released it, it was only going to be more expensive. So I'm glad they released it when they did, because the price is only going up.

I don't understand your logic. The prices for everything are going up, not down. If they waited to launch the Switch 2, it would have cost more than it did last year.

I don't see what changing the name would have done for them. If they called it Switch XL, Super Switch, or anything else, you would still have the same complaints.

@Axecon If I sell apples in my store, and the dude I get them from suddenly starts charging me 3x as much, raising the price on apples isn't really a "choice." Framing this as a "choice" Nintendo is making when their "choice" is to raise the prices or lose massive amounts of money is disingenuous.

@darkswabber As someone who loved World and Rise, I just didn't think MHW was a very good game. The monster designs and moves were fun and flashy, everything else around them... eh.

@Kingy It is a little strange, right? I think maybe it's because Metroid doesn't get that many games (especially 3D ones), so every one feels really high stakes. It was jarring for the game to feel so uninspired compared to its predecessors. It's like if Tolkien had written Fellowship of the Ring and Two Towers, and then followed those up with Twilight.

(P.S. I did finish Metroid Prime 4, but it was definitely just "okay." There wasn't anything about it that people are going to be commenting on a decade from now, in a positive way anyway.)

@AmplifyMJ Yup, if DK Bananza hadn't been so awesome, MKW would have been my GOTY last year. And I'm sad to think that there are potentially thousands or millions of people like you who are afraid to play it because of the negative online discourse. They're missing out on a beautiful, polished, textbook Nintendo experience bursting with color and joy. And that open world with "nothing to do in it" took me over 30 hours to clear.

Gladly, that discourse didn't tank the game which, as I've said before, stands proudly on its own merits.

@Misima Some of my best memories with my mom and dad were of playing video games with them. They are also the reason I learned piano and became a composer. Can't help but completely disagree with you.

@sleepinglion Obviously, anyone can say whatever they want. My question is... why, though? It's never in a million years going to affect the prices; only Lego's bottom line will do that. It seems entirely fruitless, and when I used to do things like that, all I remember it achieving was making me a more bitter and jaded person.

I, too, would pick this up if it were cheaper. But... it isn't. So, I won't. And that's it.

It's so interesting watching people complain about the price of something that is completely inessential lol. As if they're being forced to buy it.

I feel like an adult should be able to look at a thing, look at the price, and go "nope, no thanks!" without having an absolute conniption breakdown blame fest.

@AussieMcBucket Yeah but it's definitely not. It doesn't have the form factor, hardware or performance of a home console, it has that of a handheld device. Expecting it to perform on the level of a VCR-sized computer that runs on mains is foolish, but that's what's going to happen if we think of it like a "console you can take on the go."

Sounds like a great port! Honestly, I think 30fps for ports of what's releasing on home consoles should be pretty expected. It seems like people forget, all the time, that the Switch is a battery powered handheld device that plugs in to the TV, it's not a home console.

I would LOVE a Switch 2 Lite (since I only play in handheld), but I'm not gonna be ready to buy one for at LEAST another year or two lol

@anzzjam ...I think Mario Kart World is phenomenal. I've already played it more than I played MK8 in its entire lifespan... I don't think there's anything about it that needs me to "defend" it, the quality speaks for itself.

@Alienfanatic I am certain the reason it's still 30fps is because the game logic and simulation are running at that frame rate, and the devs didn't code the game with the flexibility to run at higher frame rates. This is pretty well evidenced by trying to run the game in an emulator. It bugs out big time if you remove the frame rate cap.

Eh, the price is low enough that I impulse-preordered it... but it probably should have been free. Still excited to jump in for all the new content and because I didn't really play it THAT much way back when (don't think I even unlocked terraforming).

@Zuljaras Ah yeah, I'm all in on their family fare. Obviously when a main Mario or Zelda comes out it's like a second Christmas, but I still do like most of their in-between games too~

@Zuljaras I mean, if you've decided that nothing short of the once-or-twice-a-decade big Mario or Zelda game will make you buy a Nintendo console, then that's that, right? You shouldn't be surprised that nothing else is doing the trick.

Personally: MKW, DK Bananza, Pokemon ZA, Kirby Air Riders, Hyrule Warriors 3, and Metroid made my Switch 2 purchase in the first year more than worth it. All good experiences, and even some phenomenal ones (MKW and DK for me)!

@HugoGED Same! Could not have put it better. Bananza was my Nintendo GOTY, but I still loved MKW, and I still play online every day. They really got the "fun" aspect down (despite the larger luck and chaos factors) and it's undeniably a visual treat.

Downloading now! I'm pretty pumped to start a new island, I haven't played this game since lockdown. Excited to see everything that's been added.

Nintendo needs to go private. They can afford it. Ditch the shareholders and do whatever they want.

I recently started playing Mario Kart World again and I have to say it is a gorgeous, fun game. The internet criticism cycle (including and maybe especially here on NL) really had an unjust effect on my enjoyment of it when it first came out. I definitely don't think it should be more expensive than other games but it is a fine title, one of Nintendo's most stunning efforts visually imo.

I love my Switch 2; been playing it every day since launch. That said, I think we definitely need a Direct soon to showcase what's coming this year. So far the big hitters are Pokopia, Splatoon Raiders and Fire Emblem, and I can only imagine the latter being worth the $70 they're all likely to cost.

Do any of the new features work with Wonder's Dark Souls-y drop-in / asynchronous online multiplayer? I always thought that was one of the cooler elements of the game. I'd love to see it used in some new ways, even just for minigames.

@sportymariosonicmixx I am. I still have a day job teaching (another passion of mine), but I write music for games (and lots of other stuff) when I get home.

This game is a blast, and among the most accessible entries in the entire series. I feel like it's also where the "modern" brand of Fire Emblem music started, and since this game each entry has had a banger soundtrack I count among my favorites. In fact, Path of Radiance was one of the games I played as a kid that made me want to be a game composer!

If the one with the woman holding the tablet isn't AI, I'll eat my Switch 2. She has like seal flippers for hands. That said, I don't really care; I think it's a bit of a shame not to have real paid actors in ads anymore, but I stopped paying real attention to these kind of ads a decade ago.

The number of young people in this thread with the general sentiment of "who cares, they all suck" not knowing there was a time when CoD was deservedly at the top of the gaming world is very interesting.
