Switch sales collapsed completely after launch month. Same with Mario Kart 8: 83 % of sales came on launch day, and after that sales of the game collapsed totally, accounting only for 17 % of the total.

Also, by your reasoning, Wii U made more money for Nintendo after launch. It shipped more consoles and it shipped a lot more of games!

@yuwarite Those are not sold, those are shipped. Wii U shipped over 3 million in the same time, and is ahead of Switch in actual sales in Japan, launch-aligned. Probably Europe too.

Also, according to the latest Mario Kart 8 Switch news, Nintendo sold only 114,000 Switch systems in US between the end of March and Mario Kart 8's Switch launch. That's ridiculously low for a system that was launched a month ago.

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Nano Assault Neo-X had a great 2-for-1 sale on PS4. It's essentially the same game, but with PS4 enhancements.

But Switch is just garbage, the sales numbers are not good like some delusional fans would like you to believe, and the upcoming Switch release list looks really bad. I'm just telling it like it is.

@OorWullie Here's the thing: Switch is several hundred thousand behind 3DS in launch-aligned numbers. And 3DS still got that massive price cut just 5 months into its lifespan.

@BensonUii PS4 has already sold over 4,500,000 consoles in Japan, and it's closing in on 5 million. You can't expect a mid-lifecycle system with millions of consoles already sold to sell as "well" as new hardware.

This is not good news for Switch. It's massively behind Wii and 3DS in launch-aligned numbers, and it's even behind Wii U.

@yuwarite Nice to use first week numbers when the system has been out 8 weeks. During those 8 weeks, it has fallen massively behind Wii and 3DS, and is even behind Wii U in Japan.

By this point, Wii had sold close to 1.3 million systems in Japan. Switch has sold about half of that. Launch-aligned 3DS numbers are also several hundred thousand ahead of Switch.

Also, stock is readily available in the stores that I frequent. You can just go in and pick one up.

"Portable" or not, Switch is doing badly.

In US, the abnormal NPD month for Switch obfuscates the release month sales figure, but it still sold at a slower rate than Nintendo's previous systems, not to mention other systems like PS4 which completely blew Switch out of the water and in only half of the time.

Jackbox Party Pack 1 for PS4 is great, because it has You Don't Know Jack! They really should get another version into the later Party Packs.

@aaronsullivan Are you sure that Switch has a future? The release list is pathetic. The existing games are selling poorly. The hardware is bad. I don't know what it would take for me to buy a Switch, but I can say with certainty that it isn't there and it isn't anywhere to be seen.

You seem to forget that people have other systems too. Snake Pass is also on PS4, and it's better there. PS4 has a lot more games and is simply better than Switch in every way.

You see those low sales for Switch games? Most of the new owners weren't buying games. They were playing Splatoon.

@joey302 I'd be interested in a New 2DS. But I'm not interested in Switch. It's a simple choice for Nintendo: do they forfeit my money or not?

2DS was a huge improvement on the 3DS line. It's no surprise that the "3DS family" started selling more and getting more games after 2DS's release.

Switch was just released, and it's already dead.

@FX102A A lot of people aren't buying Switch. While the Wii U install base isn't large, there's still money to be made there from people who don't have a Switch and aren't getting one.

I'll just keep my 2DS, and if Nintendo doesn't produce a proper handheld system after that, I just won't play Nintendo games any more.

In other news:

Water is wet, Wii U Gamepad was a terrible controller.

Just Dance 2017 has continued base sales across Wii, PS4 and all the other platforms, so the Switch version isn't contributing much there. JD2017 has been keeping on the charts this year even before the Switch launch, so it just seems to be continuation of that.

@SegaBlueSky It's not just the games, the Switch hardware itself is garbage for me. Plenty of games elsewhere - PS4, 2DS, etc. Switch would have to get more good games than usual to justify the garbage hardware. But with Switch, both the hardware and game lineup are bad.

That's the difference to Saturn, Dreamcast, etc. While they didn't have as many games as PS1/PS2, at least there weren't huge problems with the hardware itself. The Saturn pad is still one of the best controllers ever made. The Switch "cons" are some of the worst controllers ever made. Way to follow up the Wii U Gamepad, Nintendo!

@SegaBlueSky Here's the thing: consoles need a lot of people to buy them, not just the early adopters who are willing to waste their money on anything. Look at the difference between PlayStation 4 and Xbone. That shows you what it means to have more people buying a console.

And look at what happened to Wii U when enough people didn't buy it.

@JaxonH Here's the very problem with these kinds of articles and "polls": most of the people coming in will be those who have "bought in" to the system, and thus the results will be completely skewed and don't align with reality.

But the thing is, most disinterested people won't even answer the poll, won't even read the article, won't even visit the site. I'm here for other things, and while I do that, I might at least try to dispel your delusions, and warn that you're in for a rough time.

But you do have to be. The Switch is garbage. It's not worth it to anyone but the most hopeless Nintendo fanboys and those with too much money and too little sense.

Switch developers that initially don't even think about the Pro controller and want to make you play using those horrible Switch controllers... the situation is going to be ugly, just like Wii U.

@aaronsullivan Yeah, any system will sell some amount in launch. In US, the comparison isn't exactly fair, since the closest competition, Wii, was released on a Sunday, and had limited stock. Switch had more stock, and a Friday launch, but it's the following months rather than a couple of days at launch which will tell how soft the sales will be.

Horizon is maybe later for me, and even that is only a "maybe".

@Mogster Yeah. You gotta remember, Twilight Princess was also a launch game for Wii. Gamecube release didn't even arrive at the same time like Breath of the Wild's Wii U version did. So with Wii launch sales only, Twilight Princess is up there, fighting against WW's mid-gen launch and BotW's combined Wii U + NS launch.

And then Twilight Princess delivered on the hype, netting a lot more sales in the months and years to come.

@Mogster Wind Waker also had massive hype. It was Gamecube's first Zelda, but it was a mid-generation game, with an existing GC install base already out there. It was the next Zelda after Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask! Surely it would have to be great? The disappointment in Wind Waker only started mounting after people had bought it and started playing the game, and they realized that the base gameplay and world design just wasn't what they had wanted and expected.

@Peach64 Switch has lower sales than Wii did at launch. Even if there is the same proportion of system buyers buying BotW as did Twilight Princess, that alone would give Twilight Princess higher sales.

Switch system sold worse than Wii, 3DS, PS4, Xbox 1 and more at launch. But it sold better than Wii U. What a laugh.

@UmniKnight Yet the PS4 version is also the most comfortable to play and isn't a hassle to set up. It's the best of all worlds.

Here's an idea: just get the PS4 versions. They are looking to be better in every way.
